Only screen saver appears when connected to HDTV?

Check the Energy Saver and Screen Saver settings, sounds like you have Energy Saver kicking-in before Screen Saver.

Has Apple recently up-dated my OS (Lion) such that every time the screen saver starts it disables Time Machine.  I have to switch-off the computer and re-start in order to undertake  a back-up.  I have now switched of all screen savers.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • My Ricoh Aficio MP 2500 only prints postscript stuff when connected to my OS X Yosemite

My Ricoh Aficio MP 2500 only prints postscript stuff when connected to my OS X Yosemite. When printing one page of something, ten pages or so of machine language will print out.  It is on my home network and the IP address is correct.
    Thanks for any help.

This can also happen when you use a Postscript driver but the printer does not support Postscript. According to the Ricoh Australia web site the MP2500 supports PCL standard while Postscript is optional. So it would be safe to assume that you don't have the Postscript kit and that's why you are getting all those pages with Postscript commands.
One thing you can do is remove this printer from Printers & Scanners and add again, this time selecting the Generic PCL Laser printer in the Use menu. Note that this printer is set to 300dpi by default, but you can change the resolution to 600dpi via the printer menu so that you get better looking prints.

  • I have a lot on books on my Kindle account. I have downloaded the app onto my IPAD but can only access my books when connected to WIFI, i would like to read them offline. Have I missed a download step. Thanks for any help you can give.

I have a lot of books on my Kindle/Amazon account. I have downloaded the Kindle app onto my IPAD mini by can only access my books when connected to WIFI, how can I read them off-line?

Yes, you've missed the download step.
Open the Kindle app and navigate to your Library. There is a tab at the bottom that says Cloud | Device. Tap the Cloud tab and tap the books you want to download to the device. You will see a progress indicator during the download. Once it's done, read away!

  • IPhone 4S only powers up, works, when connected to wall power

Brand new iPhone 4S, arrived two days ago on the model's launch day.  Few glitches, expected w/ new phone, not a big deal, worked through them, initially did restore-type installation to transfer all info from old AT&T iPhone 3GS, still w/ AT&T.  It was working fine.
Then, connected to wall charger last night.  This morning, before disconnected from wall charger, charge showed 87%, then disconnected and screen went black.
Phone did not, and does not, respond when unconnected.
Connected iPhone to MacBook Pro, result is same as when unconnected, no response.
However, when iPhone connects to wallpower, it works fine.  Powers up, all functions seem to be normal, but noted that charge now shows only 84% and it's not going up, as it should.
I have been studying these boards today before typing this post.  Have tried the reset procedure (hold down sleep/wake + home buttons simultaneously for 30+ seconds) when iPhone is unconnected and when iPhone is connected to computer, still unresponsive.  Also tried reset procedure when connected to wall power, it eventually goes into reset mode and it eventually got to the point that it said connect to iTunes, but when I disconnect from wall power and connect to computer, it is again unresponsive.  After doing that, connected to wall power, and it powers up normally.
With iTunes open and running, the iPhone does not appear therein when connected.  Left iPhone connected to computer all morning, no changes in nonresponsiveness.  Before last night, this was not a problem.
Before I even starting using this iPhone, I'd put it in a nice, new OtterBox case.  It has not been dropped or mishandled or gotten wet.
My conclusion is that there's a hardware problem that I cannot fix, and even if I had a clue what to do, I'd probably void the warranty.
Looking for suggestions as to what to do short of calling AppleCare.  Any help will be most appreciated.

Called AppleCare this morning, confirmed that this is a hardware problem. Getting replacement.

  • Black Screen only screen saver

I've come to use my Apple TV2, after a little while.  It starts up, the Apple logo appears, but then nothing.... just a black screen.  If I leave it eventually the screen saver will appear, but nothing else.
I've tried the menu/down button reset and unplugged it numerous times.
I've also discconected it and plugged the USB into my Macbook and started iTunes, but iTunes never sees it?
    Any clues?
    Regards
    Mike

Sorry afraid the news is not good.  If you plugged it into your computer and iTunes could not see it then it is probalbly beyond saving.  You did have the power cord plugged in to ATV when attached via USB right?  Is there another TV you can try connecting it to?

  • ITune not appear when connect with iphone

iTune not appear when iphone connect with my computer (window 7)

    Hello BrightGoh,
Generally for a new and unrelated question you should start a new thread.
Safari on the iPhone doesn't have the ability to download and save .exe files. The iPhone does not have the ability to store files as a storage disk.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
If you check the Safari section of the manual starting on page 52, you will notice that there is no mention of being able to save such files.

  • Screen saver will only display Flury option.  After upgrading to Mavericks I had many Apple pictures in my screen savers folder.  I deleted them and found that Flury was the only screen saver that functioned.

Screen saver in Apple prefrences will only recognise Flury as an option.  Any attempted to change the screen saver selection results in a lock up of Apple screen saver prefrences.  Forced shut down will clear the lock up, but dos not solve the problem.  I updated Iphoto and repaired permissions. Neither solved the problem.

I found a fix.  In the ~library/preferences/byhost directory.  My directory had a broken link.  I deleted it.  Rebooted.  The folder came back with various files and I was able to change my screensaver!  Good luck.

  • MBP Kernel Panic when connecting to HDTV (DVI)

I have a 15" MacBook Pro that has been working perfectly since I got it. I tried today to connect it to my Hitachi 51" HDTV (via DVI) and got an instant Kernel Panic. I used my 15" Powerbook with this HDTV without any issues.
I've searched and found folks with kernel panics when waking their MBP if the RAM is faulty, but nothing at all about issues when connecting an external display. I am running with all the latest updates, firmware update, etc.
I don't have any problems connecting to a 23" Cinema display or to a 19" Samsung LCD, but I tried several times to connect to the HDTV and got a kernel panic each time. I changed resolutions on one try and still got the same issue (720x480 so the TV would see it as 480p). I even tried booting up with the display already connected and it kernel panic'd when it tried to switch into the full OS X GUI.
The specific error is in the panic.log is:

What happens if you boot from the DVD that came with the MBP instead of booting from your hard drive? It could have something to do with your configuration.

  • Audio not working when connected to HDTV

I connected my MacBook Pro to my Samsung HDTV LN40D503F6F and also connected an HDMI cable to the TV using Apple mini DVI cable. I tried connecting to both HDMI/DVI 1 and HDMI 2. Video works fine when connected to both the HDMI ports, but the audio didnt work. I also purchased an a 3.5 mm audio to RCA cable and tried switichin between both the HDMI ports but still it is not working. Any solution would be great. Thanks !!!

    Hi:
While trying to help you, I was looking along the same lines as you were (I assume).
I did a search by the IDT 92HD73E audio codec and all I could find were drivers for system boards with Intel processors such as the driver you tried unsuccessfully.
I have finally found a W8.1 driver for that codec from a desktop PC with an AMD processor and chipset.
    See if this one works...
