Only see Apple icon on the screen

The Apple icon appears on the screen only, the Apple TV (2nd generation) is blinking. Reset produces no result. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.

Do these two resets:
SMC RESET

Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
Wait 15 seconds.
Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
PRAM RESET
Zap the PRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

Try to backup and restore you device in itunes...restoring the device is like removing the iOS software off the device and re-add in a newer software, after you have restore you device, MAKE SURE YOU SET UP YOUR DEVICE LIKE A NEW DEVICE, DONT NOT RESTORE FROM BACKUP!!... give the device a chance to use the newer software and see if the issue still persisting, if the issue still on going then its would be a hardware issue.
Call Apple Care and see if your device is still under warranty to get it replace

Are you switching your iPad off completely (i.e. using the 'slide to power off') and are they just putting their's into sleep mode ?

You may need to put the iPad in recovery mode to restore it.

Did you do a software update?
AppleTV is unable to start properly. You need to connect to a computer running iTunes as detailed here:

I am only seeing an Apple logo on the screen even after restarting.

So, my son usually is watching netflix on his AppleTV and comes to tell me from time to time that Netflix isn't playing the videos since the beginning. We unplug or reset and everything is fine. Also if my TV goes to standby from inactivity after the AppleTV turns off, turing the AppleTV on wake up the TV. Well lately when the TV wakes up, it doesn't see anything from the AppleTV. Tonight my son comes out to tell me all he sees is the apple logo on the screen. I think it is updateing, nope. I do everything from unplugging and reset. Nothing helps. I unplugged for a while to cool it off, no help. I am kind of mad that I hadn't looked up the warranty earlier cause it expired 8 days ago. The reason I didn't really think there was too much of a problem when it wasn't showing picture a few times, is because I have had kind of problems with it before due to software issures. So, is this the "apple of death" sign?

Are you near an Apple store? If so make a Genus appointment and take it in.
If you have a micro USB to USB cable you could connect it to your computer to see if iTunes sees it.

please help. my ipad had a very low battery last night, and it went to the black screen with the apple icon at the center. i could not power it down. i let the battery completely run out, and then i charged it this morning. i thought it was ok because the batter charging icon came on, but then when i checked it later it was back to the black screen with the apple icon at the center. can't turn it off again. nothing is happening. please help. is it broken. what can i do. really need it for work. thanks so much

Try a reset. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

the settings are gone, i guess. But even worse, I cannot get the iPad2 to play Full HD thru the Apple digital AV adaptor using apps that support (and advertise this), like AVPlayer HD. This definiteley used to work before one of the last iOS upgrades. (I am now at 5.1.1).

If/when it is dry
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Have you tried the standard fixes:
- Reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore the iPOd from backup
- Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.
If you still have problems after restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod then you likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. The appointment is free except for yuor time.
If when you connect the iPod to your computer the iPod does not appear in iTunes so you can restore the iPod, place the iPod in recovery mode and then try to restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:
