Only short text on hiearchy variable

Hi guys,
we made a technical upgrade vom BW 3.5 to BI 7.0.
When I now open a query with a variable on a hierarchy, I only get the technical name and the short description of the hierarchy .
But I need the middle text, because only this one is usable.
Any idea what´s wrong now?

Hi Gopal,
in the query, there´s the text and the medium text and the character also shows text and medium text.
After executing the query, i can set a filter on the hierarchy and there, the long text is displayed.
Any other idea?
There are a lot of posts about this topic, but no solution ...

I use the 0ORGUNIT as variable in the selection screen, when i use the selection button, the 0ORGUNIT is displayed as a hierarchy but the text are in short text.
In the query, the text are well displayed in Medium-Lenght text.
Where can i defined the parameter to obtain the same lenght for the selection screen?

Hello GALVAGNI,
Go to the administrator of your InfoProvider and go to the dimension of your InfoObject 0ORGUNIT, right-click over 0ORGUNIT there and select "Provider-Specific Properties" then change the option Display to "5 Medium-Length Text".

Make short text field in Purchase order creation only display..

Sir,
Yeah my requirement is quite unusual, but such is the situation.
I want to make the short text field in purchase order creation "only disply". what is happening is that user while creating PO is able to change the text of material in short text column. I want to make it only for display.
Can it done on document type level, since for service type, and Text type of account assignment cat, only text field is filled up. so how to do it.
Please assist...

If you want to have the short text display only for standard item but not service item, you may check below customizing.
Transaction SPRO:
MM-PUR-PO
-> Define screen layout at document level
Field Selection group: Basic Data, Item
Field Selection Key: PT0F Standard item purchase order
Field: Short text -> set as display

F4 help on variable screen only shows text or key...not both

In some queries, the F4 help will only show text oy key but not both. For example, the F4 help on 0employee only gives a list of personnel numbers. The search in the dialog box only works for the pernrs and we can't search for names.This is happening in some infoset queries and queries that are on multi-providers.
Is this something to do with read mode? Settings in the multi/infoset?
Any help is appreciated.

I still have the same problem with NW7.0 SPS15. Does anyone have a solution for this? Changing the Provider specific properties in the InfoCube or MultiProvider did not help for the web variable dialog.

PM order: operation short text mandatory for active operations only?

Hi experts,
a quick question regarding operation short texts in the PM order:
I would like to make short texts in PM order operations mandatory.
When I set the short text to "mandatory" in the "operation list customizing" field selection (Tcode OIOPL), all of the operations in the order shown in the operation list (standard 0010 to 0170) get the short text field marked as mandatory.
This means that a short text is expected even for operations which are not used/active, which is a pain if I only want to use operations 0010 and 0020...
Does anyone know of an OSS note that fixes this?
Or is there some other customizing that needs to be done?

Hi,
There is no fix for this as its not an error as such. The screen processing does not distinguish between active and non-active operation lines. So if short text is mandatory it will be required on every operation line. OIOPL is not suitable for marking fields mandatory for that reason - ok for hiding fields or making display only.
Consider the exit as suggested.

Hi Madhav,
The BEx query setting made in infoobject can be overwritten by the settings made in the query .
You need to select Long Text in the query for that characteristic.
This setting will overwrite whatever is made in the info object level and so make will diplay the long text.

Enter short text error when creating a purchase requisition using ME51

Hello
I would be grateful if someone can help. I am currently trying to raise a purchase req using ME51. The purchase req is for one item so i enter details of this item on line 1. However when i try to save the purchase req i get an error message stating "enter short text" on line 3 and it does not let me continue. Line 3 however does not contain any item information so i dont understand why i am getting this error message.
Another user created the same purchase req and it worked fine for them so i am not sure why i am getting this message.
I would be grateful if you can please help.

Short Text/Material Description in PRs and POs

My client has a requirement that except for Item cat. D for all others the text feild should be greyed out and Material no. is mandatory. How to go about in customising.

First you need to define Z* doc type & in the Allowed Item Categories only allow "D".
and create new field selection key and assign it to Z* doc type..
and for Standard Doc type in in the Allowed Item Categories remove "D", then Pls do as below
Spro>Materials Management>Purchasing>Purchase Order>Define Document Types
Here check the "Field Selection Key" against the PO doc type
(ex: Standard NB doc type the "Field Selection Key" would be "NBF")
Then go to
Spro>Materials Management>Purchasing>Purchase Order>Define Screen Layout at Document Level
Select the " Field Selection Key" of ur doc type..Just Double click on that
then click on "Basic Data, Item", there you can see the "Short text" field..
and make it Display.
You need to use Z* doc type for Services , there you can enter short text.
and for Standard the Short text will be in Display mode.

FB03 - Increase length of the field "Account Short Text" in FB03

Dear Expert!
I understand that Tcode: FB03 is SAP standard tcode. However, i just want to ask, is it possible to increase length of the field "Account Short Text" to 42 characters in FB03? Because my vendor/customer name is quite long, and when i view via FB03, the field "Account Short Text" only displays 20 characters, not full vendor/customer name. Unless, i double click on the line item, then i can see full vendor/customer name. But i want the "Account Short Text" field can display full vendor/customer name.
Is that possible?

Hi,
there's a matadata table behind it RFPSD and for Account short text field KTEXT is used, which in fact has a length of 35 chars.
But on the other hand there's also a filed KTEXT_GL (G/L Account Short text) which is maybe applied here. It has a length of 20.
You can do some more checks on program to clear it finally

Does any body know any Function Module or BAPI which can accomplish this purpose .
Or else writing BDC is the only option I have got ? .

Hierarchy in selection screen shows Short Text, I want to change it to Med

It seems that the selection popup of Hier is using the Short Text of the Charc.
Can I change it to use Med Text?
I tried in the Query, it only changes the way the Hier is presented in the reort
and not in the selection screen.

Hi Edan,
You could select the type of text you want to display on selection screen by choosing the same under the Business Explorer tab of your Hierarchy infoObject.
Go to RSA1 -> infoObject -> find your hierarchy infoObject -> Display -> Business Explorer tab ->
Text type -> Medium-length text.

Impact of changing positions and Org Unit short text

Hi All..
This is regarding the impact of changing positions and Org Unit short text(SAP name - Object Abbreviation, technical field u2013 hrp1000-short).The new approach we are ging to have is to keep short text same across the business unit.
Example:
All position in US will have short text u2013 USS
Similarly All US Org Unit short text will be COMUS
I was wondering, from SAP best practices point of view, do you see any downside in this approach?
Example: Any problem in searching position or org using search term.

Hi,
Normally such change will not have any impact in PA module.
Only in exceptional cases it will have an impact in following cases:
1. First and mandatory condition that you use abbreviation as position name in IT 0001. If this is the case parameter PLOGI TEXTC (in table T77S0) should be equal X.
2. Second condition is that parameter PLOGI SPLIT is equal to X. That means that change of object name will lead to record split in IT 0001 in PA.
So if in table T77S0 you don't have setting PLOGI TEXTC = X and PLOGI SPLIT = X you can go ahead with change of positions abbreviations. It will have no impact on other modules.

Field Short Text and long Text not displayed in SKA1 in Se17

When try to extract chart of account data from SAP using Tcode se17 and table ska1. Short text and G/L acc long text are not displayed where as these are displayed when we use t code se16 and table ska1.
My client want to use specifically se17 for extracting the data.

se17 is from SAP-Rel 2.1 or s.th.!
all jokes aside - the inclusion of text table (here table skat - to table ska1) is only realized with transcations SE16 and SE16N.
To program this inclusion to se17 is very costly - i think and a modification too!

I am able to search only by text and not by Key in filter.

We have a variable x which has bex properties in the infoobject level to
1.display: Key and Text
2.text type: long text
3.Query def filter value selection: Only values in infoprovider
4.Query Exe filter value selection: Only posted values for navigation.
in the Query designer to the object we have the same properties for 1 and 2 as above.
 On execueting the report in web, In the variable screen for x we can search for both Key and text. (we have two radio buttons for Key and text),
 Whereas in the result area for the filter for x I am able to search only by text and not by Key. I want to search by both Key and text in filter screen.
Can u suggest suitable solution for this ASAP.

I have been working on a similar problem and have found that it depends on what kind of InfoProvider you are using.
If you are using an InfoCube, the setting that seems to control this is on the maintenance screen (Admin Workbench -> {InfoProvider to be edited} -> Change -> Extras -> Structur-Specific InfoObject Properties. If you want the key and text to display on the variables screen (which you already have), make sure the 'Display' is set to "Key and Text". If you want key and text to display on the filter screen, make sure the 'F4 Query' is set to "Values in Master Data Table". (You may also have to set the characteristic to display key and text in the query, but it sounds like you already have done this.)
For an ODS, the settings are the same, but the path to get there is different. Go to Admin Workbench -> {ODS to be edited} -> Change -> {InfoObject to be edited} -> Right-click -> ODS-object Specific Properties. Same settings as above after this.
For a MultiProvider, I found that the settings on the InfoObject itself seemed to control the display on the Web, so I ended up setting: Display = "Key and Text"; Query Def Filter Value Selection = "Values in Master Data Table"; and Query Exe Filter Value Selection = "Values in Master Data Table". That may be a bit of overkill, but I wanted to be sure to get both key and text in all situations.
I also found that the settings for navigational attributes (e.g., 0PLANT__0REGION) for any kind of InfoProvider must be set at the InfoObject level (e.g., 0REGION), as above.
Even with all of this, I still have a couple of InfoObjects left that I can't get to display both key and text for some unknown reason.

Pulling Job short text in Ad Hoc query

Hi All,
I want to pull the 'short text' field defined in Job into my ad-hoc query. If we select the Output as 'Text only' for Job in IT0001 the output is always the long text e.g. Director of Human Resource. I want to output the short text e.g. DIRHR in my ad hoc query. Both short text and long texts are defined in IT1000 while creating a new Job however the queries from infoset PNPCE only pulls the long text. I can pull the short text in ad hoc query from a OM infoset but for the business requirements we have to use PNPCE. Is there a way to achieve this?
