ONLY SMALL IMAGE - in OS DVD PLAYER WINDOW

Hi
WHEN I USE THE OS dvd player sometimes it only is playing the
dvd back as a small window with a big black boarder .
If i check this by playing the dvd on my stand-alone dvd player/tv this does not happen.
Could someone explain how i can change this re- occuring situation when playing dvds on my mac, so i can watch the film at full window pane size ?
Thanks for your time.

didier:
I don't do much with DVDs on my mac, however I just popped one in and played with the controls. I find that Command + 3 gives a large image. Command + 0 toggles between full screen and smaller screen (as in View menu.
Failing that my next guess will be to try the Preferences. Go to Home > Library > Preferences. Locate com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist and drag it to the desktop for now. Restart your computer. It will create a new preference file. Try your DVD and see how it works. If it is OK, go ahead and trash the preference on the desktop.
Post back with your progress.
Good luck.

  • DVD Player window won't resize properly

I have several DVDs recorded on an LG DVD recorder that are the wrong aspect ratio (they play what should be 16:9 as 4:3, making everything look tall and narrow). I have tried everything in DVD Player to fix this, but only one thing works :
    Select Video Zoom
    Deselect "Lock aspect ratio"
Select Manual mode and move "Width" slider until picture looks correct
At this point, the adjustments have moved the left and right edges of the video out of the Viewer window. "Hey, no problem" I thought, "I'll just resize the Viewer window horizontally until the whole video is showing".
Unfortunately, I can't. Dragging the bottom right of the Viewer window resizes it both horizontally and vertically DESPITE the "Lock aspect ratio" box being unchecked. In other words, it wants to preserve a 4:3 aspect even though I have adjusted the width slider manually.
What I'm left with, is a window that shows the video undistorted, but with the left and right edges missing. What am I doing wrong, or this a bug in DVD Player?

I launched VLC (which I already have), browsed the VIDEO_TS folder and clicked Play. Immediately VLC started playing in the correct 16:9 window and the video looked correct.
It seems this must be a woeful discrepancy in Apple's own DVD Player, which I certainly wouldn't have expected. I can use VLC for all similar videos from now on, though it doesn't give me the menu burned by the LG as DVD Player does. However, that's perhaps a small price to pay.

  • Applescripting to resize DVD Player window.

I have a malfunctioning DVD player game that won't display the subtitles correctly unless they are forced to be redrawn. The simplest way to do this is to resize the window slightly. Obviously since that's a pain to do constantly manually I tried to script this with a simple repeat. My script works fine for TextEdit or FireFox but I get an error full of garbley-gook when I run it on DVD Player:
    tell application "DVD Player"
    set bounds of front window to {0, 0, 1320, 1047}
    delay 0.5
    set bounds of front window to {0, 0, 1325, 1051}
    end tell
error "DVD Player got an error: UNîp¢$8Ôˇøcepscahp (the forum is editing most of the error out) number -1731
    Any ideas?

  • Imaging from external DVD player or an external usb hard drive

    Hey,
At the High School i work at we are running Netware 6.0 SP5 and Zenworks
4.01 ir6. We have Zen Partitions installed on most computers to store a
local image in case the the computer needs to be re-imaged.
However, we have a dilemma. Every now and then a hard drive will go in a
    computer.
When we replace the hard drive with a new one, we install the Zen
Partition, do the config and then our last step is to bring down an image.
Unfortunately our only means of dropping down an image is from the network
either through normal imaging or through multicast sessions.
When we drop an image down from the network which takes up network
bandwidth, it causes slow downs on the users computers and they start
complaining. Our network is running at 100mb.
Is there any way possible to image from an external DVD player or an
external usb hard drive when dropping down an image to a new hard drive in
the computer? Currently I have all my Zen Images on the external USB
Maxtor 160gb hard drive and I also have Zen Images burnt to DVD's.
If so, how do I go about doing this and is there documents on doing this?
    Thanks!!!

  • Only small images will export...

Today I had problems exporting full-sized images from LR3. Using the Export menu, I tried to send images to my mac's desktop. They arrived as small, sub-100KB image, though shot as RAW/MRWs on Sony and KM DSLRs at 6-12 MPx). On the Export panel I chose 100% quality and no compression, but images still exported as small files. Dragging and dropping instead of exporting, the LR images lost their LR corrections, so that was an even worse option. Exporting as TIFFs made no difference, still small files were produced. I did not try burning LR files to a disk and copying them onto the desktop from disk, but that shouldn't be necessary, should it?
I'm a newer LR user, who relied on iPhoto for years. I love LR3's capabilities and ease of use, but my photos seem to be stranded inside it. I feel like I'm following the instructions to the letter, but something is happening in the background. Any guesses?

    Hi Minoltan,
It sounds lke you have the 'Resize' option, or the 'Limit to File Size' option accidentally set in your Export parameters.
    Here's a screen print showing these two options;
Make sure you haven't clicked the 'Limit File Size to' box, and that the Image Sizing is set to the correct number of pixels, or, if you don't want to resize the photo, that the 'Resize to Fit' box is unselected.

  • Can't play Disk Image in DVD Player

I saved my iDVD project to disk image so I could view the video on my Mac Pro prior to burning the project.
When I double click the saved disk image icon, the archived file that I made earlier populates on the screen instead of the DVD player opening. That's strange?
I see an Audio_TS file, Video_TS file, and a DVD-ROM contents files instead of the DVD player. Why isn't the DVD player playing the disk image that I saved?
I also tried the process in reverse. Trying to open the saved disk image from the DVD Player and the saved disk image is all greyed out not allowing access to view the video.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Mac Pro 2.66 GHZ, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB HD Mac OS X (10.4.9) Mac Pro

All I want to do is just play the disk image.
Read through the following for help.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/18.html
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/image_to_diskstone.html
Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • HT5517 Displaying Mac screen to my TV via Apple TV but movie playing on DVD Player shows only gray..

The screen for DVD Player and the one on the TV are both solid light gray and no audio. When I double click DVD Player screen on the Mac the picture shows for about 1/2 second then goes gray again... it also zooms to full screen or back to small screen on both displays when I double click. Apple TV is on the same WiFi as the Mac and I can see my Mac desktop on the TV. Only the movie in the DVD Player is grayed out. If I don't try to use Apple TV, I can watch and listen to the movie on the Mac with no problems. Any suggestions on how I can watch the movie on my TV rather than just on the Mac?

Why does that need to be blocked?  I just had the same problem today.  I have had my MacBook and AppleTV for over a year.  It wasn't until now that I was without a dvd player.  I didn't think that would ba a problem.  Now I can't watch my own movies on my own electronics.

  • Dvd player does not play dvd disc

I've had this brand new iMac for almost 10 months.  Every time I put in a dvd, click on play and "Supported disc not available" would be shown on the screen. It's very frustrated.  But one time I took it to an Apple store to check, an Apple worker put in a Disney's dvd and it worked fine.  I brought it home and have tried to play mine.  Again, it says the same thing.  I cannot even eject the disc form that small dvd player window.  I can only eject it from the key board.  I have "Window XP" loaded in this iMac.  I wonder if the Window XP has created problem for it.  Any suggestion to help solve this probem will be greatly appreciated.  (Certainly, I can bring it back to Apple store again with my disc but it's a big job because the nearest store is hour and half away.)
(The operating Syetem below I chose is not necessary correct.  All I know is it's OS X)

Is XP running under Boot Camp?

  • DVD is not playing in my DVD player!

I made a movie in iMovie HD, created a DVD in iDVD, burned it successfully, and now that I try to play it on my DVD player, it is choppy and basically freezes and says "disk error". I can see the title pages and everything looks good, so I'm not sure what's going on. I took it to work and it only played on an old DVD player in someone's office, but not on my computer DVD player, not in other, newer DVD players. I burned the movie on a Maxell DVD-R, which I thought was a good brand. Do you think it has to do with burning speed? As I'm not sure what speed I set the burn for. It does play, however, on the apple DVD Player on my mac, so I know it works at least somewhere! The problem is that I gave this DVD to the bride (I edited her wedding) and she was unable to play it at her home. Any ideas????

    Hi
I burn my DVDs at an as slow speed possibly. This can be set in iDVD08 or by creating
a DiskImage and use Disk Util tool or Roxio Toast™ to burn where speed can be
    set down to x1
Speed is set by the no. on the DVD bought eg x16 and max speed on DVD-burner eg x8
in previous versions of iDVD. So forcing iDVD up to version 6, one has to buy x2 DVDs.
No other way possibly else using another program to do the actual burning.
    I only use Verbatim DVDs
    Only DVD-R (Single Layer)
Read this on iDVD quality = Result
    *DVD quality*
    1. iDVD 8 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    2. From
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not selfcontaining, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 this can also be set)
This can also be done with (Apple) Disk Util tool.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
    5. Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVD at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while befor next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on:
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JESDeinterlacer3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS: They are plabacked by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD08
    Pro Quality (only in iDVD08)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choise)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD08
    2. Project info: Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD08.
    Region codes:
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes:
    1 = US
    2 = EU

  • Can i make a slideshow in iPhoto to play in a dvd player with out going to iDVD

I need to have a slide show to play in the funeral parlor dvd player,
Can I do that right out of iPhoto? with out haveing to learn iDVD or iMovie
I have experimented exporting into iTunes, then putting it into iDVD but it seems like redundancy. There is a depth to iDVD that i really don't need/want if I don't have to go there.
The slideshow is the way I like it in iPHOTO, music, ect.
Before I get in over my head with applicatons I am unfamiliar with i thought I would ask the community.
OH, an if so, HOW DO I DO IT!!!
OH also, time is of the essence, today is Friday, Wednesday is the funeral
    thanx

    follow up:
    then there is this one
You can put up to 2 hours of playing time on an iDVD video DVD.  Create the slideshow in iPhoto with an aspect ratio of 4:3 (iDVD) and export it at Size = Medium or Large. This will create a Quicktime movie file.
Open iDVD, create a project and select a theme.  Drag the exported Quicktime movie file into the iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones. (???)
Follow this workflowin iDVD to help ensure the best quality final product:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Portege R700 - DVD player utility restore

On my notebook (Win7x64), I only need to restore the DVD player software. Yes, I could restore the factory default system from the HDD or my self-made recovery disks, but according to the manual, this is an all or nothing process. This is really the last thing I need, because reinstalling all my other software after a factory default reset would take me a day or two.
After hours of searching for a solution in vain, I'm desperate for help, please.

All additional software that you got with your notebook is part of recovery image and Toshiba doesn't offer this software for download. So if there is some problem with preinstalle software you must install the whole OS.
In your case you should use some other software. You can find a lot of DVD players for free and the best one is VLC player.
I use it for a long time and it is perfect. So I also recommend you to install it. you will be happy with it.

If i DO NOT mirror and just move the Player over from the gateway screen to the RCA screen, the Lines do not appear during playback. • Apple DVD Player freezing PowerBook when power adapter unplugged

I've got a 15" 1.5GHz G4 PowerBook (previous generation, bought in August 2005) with 1Gb RAM and a Combo drive, running OSX 10.4.2 (not 10.4.3)
When I play DVD movies through Apple's DVD player, and then eject the disc (by clicking the eject button in the DVD player window), everything is normal, until I unplug the power adapter (while the computer is running, but without the DVD in the drive). Then, everything freezes - the pointer locks up, the keyboard locks up, everything. The only way to get out of this is to hold the power button down.
What could be causing this? Is it because I'm ejecting the disc while it's essentially still playing (I keep on forgetting to press the "Stop" button)?
It's also only started doing this since I installed drivers for my new Epson Stylus D88 printer - could this be a problem?
I've repaired permissions, and that seems to have done nothing.
Note: Apple DVD Player is not running when I unplug the power adapter, nor is the DVD in the drive.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for the help

I've found out that it's not actually a total freeze, it's a 10 second hang and I'm impatient!!
But, during the hang, it appears as if everything is frozen.
I'll contact Epson - I downloaded an update to the printer driver, but that doens't seem to have done anything. I can't uninstall the printer driver, as I'm currently at university, and I don't have the installer CD with me for the printer.

  • Menu buttons not working in Apple DVD Player

I am having a real problem. I have a menu with three buttons. The default button takes you either of the other buttons (depending on whether you press right or down on the remote). These two buttons are auto-action and proceed imediately to other tracks. This works perfectly in home DVD players and in the Apple DVD Player using the "remote". Howver, if I try clicking the buttons using a mouse on the Apple DVD Player window, they DO NOT work! I have buttns over video on the same disc and these work perfectly by clicing on them with the mouse. Has anyone else had a problem like this and if so, have you found a solution? Many thanks!

Is the one that doesn't work a layered menu? DVD Player does not work correctly with layered menus, it takes one click to switch to the selected state, and a second click to activate the button.
