ONLY sync photos from iPad to iMac folder; automatically how?

I have 50 GB of pictures in iPhoto on my iMac (10.8.4) along with an iPhone 5 and an iPad 3.
I would like new pics from the iPhone and iPad to be automatically downloaded into the folder I have set up to get pics from those devices "iPod Photos"
How do I do this?
Alternatively, I would like the folder "iPod Photos" to stay sync'ed both ways but only with iPhone and iPad.
I do not want my fat pics being sent via my 3G Vodafone account to iCloud etc while I am out and about - ONLY via WiFi when I am home.
Is there a way to set this up?

  • Syncing photos from iPad to iMac

I have tried several times to sync my photos from iPad to my computer and I get to a point when the import just stops and it is stuck on the picture and it doesn't finish syncing. Every time I tried to sync, it seems that it creates a duplicate of the photos on my computer that were transfered. Very frustrating. I'm not able to sync all my photos from my iPad.
Any ideas how I could do this?

  • Can't sync photos from ipad that I synced from another computer

Can't sync photos from ipad that I synced from another computer... I want to have them on my computer.
Why isn't there a way to do this? I don't get it. Sharing photos is such an important thing I don't understand why Apple makes it so hard to do this.
    OK here is my senario:
Recently went on a trip Hong Kong with someone... we both had iphones and took hundreds of awesome photos. Now we want to share them with eachother. Too many photos for email and I don't wish to upload to flicker/facebook/etc...
This is what I did thinking it should work...
    1) synced photos on her iphone with her computer
    2) synced photos on MY iphone with her computer
    3) put ALL the hong kong photos in one album
    4) connected my ipad to her computer... attempted to copy photos from iphoto to ipad -- NOPE, can't be done (***?!?!)
    5) so I synced the photos (and only the photos) in the hong kong album using itunes to my ipad -- this worked -- all photos now on my ipad
    6) drove home (5 hours away) and connected ipad to my computer and attempted to import with iphoto -- NOPE, can't be done (***!?!?) Won't even show the photos.
    7) itunes wants to replace all the photos on my ipad with the photos from my computer (***?!?!)
How are you suppose to do this?! How are you suppose to be able to share lots of photos with people?

Photos are not copied off the iPad via iTunes.
For photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then see this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
For photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer (which has a free lite version called Simple Photo & Video Transfer) which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

iPhoto 9.4.3 crashes when trying to sync photos from IPAD running 8.1.  Any ideas on why ?
iPhoto runs and keeps trying to read the iPad photos cycling thru a lot of times eventually crashing.

There may be a corrupted video or image file on your iPad.
Try to download from the iPad using Image Capture instead and save the photos to a folder. If that succeeds, you can check the files for corruption before importing them to iPhoto.

  • Transferring old photos from Ipad to Imac using usb cable or local wifi?

Can anyone tell me how I transfer old photos from Ipad to Imac?  These were originally on a PC (now disposed of).  I can see how to transfer new photos from Camera Roll using Iphoto, but my 10 year archive with 1000s of photos appears stuck on my Ipad.  I have a very slow internet connection, so I can't send them across by email and would like a solution involving the usb cable if possible.
Worryingly this question appears several times in old threads but appears to be unanswered, but I will be pleased to be referred to the right thread with all the answers - if it exists!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.

Connect the iPad (USB) to your Mac then launch the Image Capture app. It's located in your Applications folder.
You can import photos from the iPad using that application.
You can even designate where you want to the photos stored on your Mac and which app you want to use for editing from the bottom of the Image Capture window.

  • Syncing photos from iPad to macbook and vice versa

I recently synced my ipad with my new macbook air. I successfuly imported all my photos from my iPad to iPhoto on my laptop.  However, now everytime I connect my ipad and laptop iPhoto opens and asks me to import all the photos all over again, despite the fact that they are still all there.
I haven't synced my photos with another computer before. I want to be able to add a photo onto my ipad and have it on my laptop and vice versa.
This doesn't have to be done wirelessly, I am happy to only have it happen when I plug them togerther, but I want the same photos on both my laptop and iPad.
I havent really messed around with anything as I am afraid of wiping my photos. I understand that I may have to do this via a third party or something, any help would be great.
    Thanks.

Connect the iPad to your Mac then launch iTunes.
Select the iPad under Devices then select Photos from the menu.
    Deselect:   Sync Photos from
You probably have iPhoto selected from the pop up menu.
Deselecting Sync Photos from should prevent the prompt to sync every time you connect the iPad.

How do I sync photos from my iPhone to my iMac with a hardwire now that I am on iCloud?

If you want to use your usb cable, you import them to your Mac as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  You transfer them from your Mac to your phone by selecting Sync Photos on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.

how do I transfer photos from ipad to imac

    Depends on the photos.
If the Photos were taken with the iPad or downloaded from the web onto the iPad, simply connect the iPd to the Mac  and use your favorite Photo Application to move them, or simply use Finder to open the iPad icon, (it will show up as a camera) and drag them from there to a folder on your computer.

You need to transfer your iTunes library and your photos from your PC to your Mac along with all other important data from your PC that you will want or need to access on your Mac - no different when switching from one computer to another under any circumstances.

  • Sync photos from ipad to iphoto

OK - here is my problem.
First - I sync'd my ipad with my imac and put ONE photo album, from iphoto, onto the ipad
Second - I used the photo application on the ipad to create a "new album" on the ipad and i moved a subset of that ONE original photo album into the new album.   So...there were 1000 photos in the original album and I reviewed them and picked the top 200 and they are in the new album.
Third - I want to "transfer" or "sync" that NEW album (with just the 200 photos) back onto my imac iphoto application.   I want to continue to edit the new album with 200 photo's - but I am going to edit them in iphoto on my imac.
I cannot figure out how to do the third thing.   I cannot figure out how to move that new photo album from my ipad to my imac.  The choices provided by the photo application on the ipad are no good - the only possible one is email but this email would be HUGE....200 photos.
    Can anyone figure this out?

    Alex, any response from Apple?
The only solution to this I can think of:
    1. Use PhoneView utility on Mac, to 'view' contents of iPad's photos - including albums.
    2. Drag _each album_ from phone view, to its own folder on Mac. Note, this will result in wasted hard drive space, if a photo on the iPad is in two separate albums. On the iPad it's of course just storing a reference to the actual file, in each album. But when you drag over each album to the Mac, it will copy *all the actual photos* - for each album.
    3. When done, quit PhoneView, open iPhoto. For each album you copied, drag _its folder, named how you want it named_ into the Albums section of iPhoto sidebar. I haven't tested this yet, but I think - iPhoto will create a new album with that name, and try to import those pictures. Of course, it already has the pics. So it'll ask you whether to ignore duplicates. You'll say yes. But then (hopefully) it'll still create the album, with the references to the originals (that it already has), and not import them again. So this part at least is blessedly fast.
Done. But! Then, you'll have to repeat this process *forever*, any and every time in the future, that you make any changes to albums *on the iPad*.
So -- it's like, giving us the ability to create albums *on the iPad* is basically, giving us just enough rope to hang ourselves. There's no way, to get those albums to be 'linked' to albums on iPhoto. It'll always be a static hack/kludge, as I've outlined above -- *if* what I'm suggesting here works, which I'm not sure. I'll be testing this today, for a client who, no surprise, took advantage of this <irony>GREAT</irony> feature on iPad, to be able to create albums on the iPad itself.  <disappointed>Thanks a lot for one more half-baked effort Apple.</d>.
I mean, unless I'm missing something. Super happy to be proved wrong here. But, as far as I can tell there's no way in iTunes (the way to sync), to do this. Doing an internet search for this, i.e.:
        https://duckduckgo.com/?q=transfer+photo+albums+"ipad+to+iphoto"
returns *very few* results, this support discussion being one of them.

  • How do I transfer photos from iPad to iMac?

I want photos to transfer from ipad to iphoto on the imac so my photos are all in one main place.
I've backed up once or twice and know that I have to have the ipad plugged into the mains and using wi-fi and launch itunes from the imac.
But after backing up which takes ages... none of the photos I took on the ipad have appeared in iphoto on the imac.
I have tried several things in 'Camera' on the ipad.  I've 'shared' the latest photos from 'camera roll' (edit, share) and put in photostream - which then appear in the main 'photo' app on the ipad.  But again they don't back up to the imac.
What exactly am I leaving out here?  And using itunes - well it beats me why we have to use that.  Why can't they develop an app that is just for backing up and selectively so.  The whole process is just not intuitive as I am used to within the Mac world.  When I take a few photos here and there on the ipad (or whatever on the ipad) I don't always want to have to back up the whole ipad again - just the photos I took!  It's just not necessary to waste all that time for a few photos.
I've been using Macs since 1987 and feel daft not being able to work this simple one out!
Thanks to anyone who can save me a trip to the Apple store for coaching....

On a Mac a backup is stored under :
    ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
But you probably won't be able to make much, if any, sense of the backup files unless you restore them onto a device.
Syncing is when you copy content to the device from your computer. If you want to be able to access your iPad's files on your Mac then, depending upon what the app that they are in supports, you might be able to copy them via the file sharing section on the device's Apps tab (file sharing), copy them via your wifi network, email them to yourself, use Dropbox - for photos you can copy them as above. If you want to copy things that you've purchased directly on your iPad (e.g. music, films, apps etc) over to your Mac's iTunes then you should be able to do so via the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option.
Edit : got distracted half-way through typing this, so Demo's reply appeared after I started it but before I finished.

  • HT1535 how do i delete photos from ipad mini that were automatically synced from my laptop

How do I delete photos from an ipad mini that were automatically synced from my laptop.Apple told me to reset my daughters ipad mini to factory settings because of a fault but when it was reconnected all the photos on laptop were transferred and we cannot get rid of them Pse help

Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad. Photos that were synced from your computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from on your computer and then re-syncing - so you will need to re-connect the iPad to your computer and select it on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes (if you have iTunes 11 and you don't have the sidebar showing then you can enable it via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), and on the right-hand side use the Photos tab to de-select the folders that you don't want and then sync (if you want to remove all synced photos then try selecting and syncing an empty folder).
