Apple will not attempt to salvage it. They will offer you a replacement iPhone 4 for $149.

  • My ipod nano 6th gen will only turn on when plugged into a power source.

My ipod nano 6th gen ONLY turns on when it is plugged into a power source. As soon as I unplug it, it turns off. I also tried to reset it and it did not help. Any suggestions?

    Howdy mela1223,
If I understand correctly your iPod will not stay on unless you have the charger plugged in even after resetting it. Normally this would indicate a hardware issue that would need a repair but to cover all the bases before that, the last troubleshooting that can be done for it would be to restore it with iTunes on a computer.
Restoring iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • I replaced battery and now will only turn on when plugged into a charger..

I replaced my batter on my iphone 3gs and then it will only turn on when i connect it to a power source.
After it has turned on you can take it off charge and it will stay on...
    Help please!! thanks

Either you got a bad battery, didn't install it correctly, did some other damage while installing, or haven't let it charge enough yet. There's really nothing we can do to help you with any of those scenarios.

  • IPhone only turns on when plugged into wall

Hello, I have an iPhone 4 CDMA and it only works when in is plugged into the wall.  It does not work properly anyother time.  When I plug it into the computer it goes through the Boot Loop.  When I put it into DFU mode and recovery mode and try to restore it in iTunes it doesn't restore and just gives me a bunch of different error codes.  The most common error codes are 2001, 2006, or 1604.  It use to give me Error 21 but I fixed that by editing the hosts files.  I have tried six different computers and seven different iPhone cables on the computers and I still get the same error codes every time.  It does not work if it is not plugged in.  I have replaced the dock connector/charging port and the battery.  I bought it used and think it may have been jailbroken at on time.  It has not been jailbroken in the time I have had it.  I have also tried Tinyumbrella and that did not work.  What could be wrong with it?

Hello! When it turns off, do you notice if it drains quickly or does it just shut off even with full battery? Because this can also be caused by battery problems. Your iPhone may not be turning on even when plugged into a computer because a wall outlet charger gives off more power than a computer does.
I suggest you bring your phone to an Apple store right away. They could at least help you determine the problem, and by then, you can decide what to do with your iPhone - you can have it repaired (if they say it's still fixable), you can have it replaced with a refurbished iPhone, or you can buy a new phone completely.

  • How do I restore my iPod Touch that only turns on when plugged into the wall?

I found my old iPod Touch 4th generation in my backpack, and my backpack went through the wash, (It shouldn't of been too bad since it was in the side pocket) but it goes dead instantly as soon as I take it out of the wall charger, and it does not turn on when I plug it into my computer. It also has a pass, (That I forget) so I need to restore it. Is it possible to restore it without connecting it to a computer?

No. You have to connect the iPod to a computer with iTunes to restore the iPod.
Did you throughly dry the iPod before you started try to use it?
    If not try by

  • Ipod classic 160gb will only turn on when plugged in

i recently got a ipod classic from a friend of mine who has no use for it and i knew there was something wrong with it but its confusing. the ipod will turn on if plugged in but will go to chatging please wait screen and never charge. if you put ipod in disk mode you can restore it but it will just go back to "charging please wait" after its done. i have no way of getting a new battery nor do i think i need to. i have tried all the the options there are , oh and i also have yet to see an apple logo and it turns off if i unplug it.

Sounds like a dead battery.  You can have Apple replace it for a flat fee plus shipping and handling, or you can send it into a third party service center who can do the same job for a little less.
Google for third party repair centers.

  • Only turns on when plugged in, but battery is fine.

My iPod nano won't come on when I press the center button, and it won't reset. It will sometimes come on when I plug it into my computer, and when it does, it works great until I either turn it off or leave it until it turns off. As long as I keep it on I can unplug it from the computer and listen to it. Today I got the computer to actually recognize it for the first time in about four months. So I hit the restore button and then re-synced my music. I disconnected it and listened to it for about two hours. Eventually I had to turn it off, and once again it won't come back on.

If you can use the touch screen, upload them to a service like Dropbox or OneDrive.

With that behavior you need to take the iPhone to an Apple store genius bar for an out-of-warranty replacement.  In the US that is $269 for the iPhone 5.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. You likely have a bad battery.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one with a new battery for $79. They do not fix yours.

  • My ipod only turns on when connected to charge

    Hi All,
This is the first time I have ever posted to something like this so please bear with me if I am rambling / or left out any important info!
I have a iPod Nano 3rd Gen, which I haven't used for quite a while due to me purchsing an iPhone a couple of years ago.
I decided to dig it out and update the music on there.  I plugged it in to my laptop and all seemed to work fine.
I left the iPod on charge overnight using the mains adapter that I have.
Unfortunately, once I disconnected the iPod from the charger it won't turn on using the play button.  I reconnected to the charger, and the iPod will switch on.
So looks like it will only turn on when connected to the power source, and won't work indepedently.
As far as I know the iPod has never been in contact with any water, as it has been kept in a bedroom drawer whilst it hasn't been used, so i don't think the problem is that the iPod has become damp in any way.
Has anybody else had a similar problem, and found a solution?
    Thanks

I have a iPod Nano 3rd Gen, which I haven't used for quite
The iPod's lithium-ion battery needs constant movement and action in order to maintain any sort of charge or capcity to charge.  So given that the iPod went unused for so long and the age of the device itself, it sounds like the iPod's battery is shot and in need of a replacement.
You can choose to have Apple swap out the battery for a flat fee, send into a third party service center for a little less, or you can even purchase a replacement battery online and use one of the many numerous gudies online to walk you through the process of swapping it out.
Here is Apple's pricing.  Google for third party service provider if you desire.

  • IPads turn on when plugged in to power. Is there a way to keep this from happening?

I am a tech for a school district. We have iPads in carts and when they are plugged in they automatically turn on. This keeps them on the wireless when not in use which uses up our wireless ports. Is there a way to keep them from turning on when plugged in?

This keeps them on the wireless when not in use which uses up our wireless ports.
Have you looked into adding more ports to your configuration.  Isn't the number of ports a configuration option?
