OnPlus 100 scan, shutting down Broadcom network adapter

I have recently installed an onPlus 100 in my network.  During the scanning process, the system seems to cause the network adapters on a few of my servers to shut down for 3-5 seconds at a time.
This was not an issue with the server either before the onPlus was connected or after I shut it down.
Has anyone seen this?
Thanks,
Switch:
The server is plugged into a Cisco SG 300-52
One Server:
Dell PowerEdge R710
Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition SP2 (32 bit)
MS SQL Server 2000
Broadcom BCM5709C NetXtreme II GigE   (x4 - only one in use)
Repeating Errors:
Broadcom BCM5709C: The network link is down. Check to make sure the network cable is properly connected.
Broadcom BCM5709C: Network controller configured for 1Gb full-duplex link.
The system detected that network adapter Broadcom...NetXtreme II GigE (NDIS VBD Client) #4 was connected to the network, and has initiated normal operation over the network adapter.

I have not seen that issue before however I have had an issue in the past where OnPlus was triggering failed login attempts to Windows Servers in the Security Logs.  It's possible that the interface may be shutting down as some sort of protection mechanism though I would find that surprising.  To address this issue, I would recommend entering admin domain credentials in the Device Options tab of the ON100 in the OnPlus portal for that client site.
The only other thing I could think of is if something in the SG 300-52 is shutting down the port the server is plugged into because of OnPlus scanning.  One possible solution, if it's an option, is to change the port the ON100 is plugged into to a Trunk Port instead of an Access port and Trunk all the VLANs down to it.  That will allow the ON100 to take a little more of a passive approach to collecting data about the network.  All of our installs including Trunking the port.

  • VM communication fail on HP broadcom network adapter

    Hi All,
I have HP DL380 servers with Broadcom network adapters. I have successfully created the team and select
Dynamic as the load balancing mode. This team has selected for the virtual switch. My VMs couldn't communicate to each other. sometimes it communicates with the physical host and sometimes not.
For the troubleshooting purpose i have selected a single adapter as the stand by mode. After that sometimes VM can communicate among each other and sometimes not.
I have found the below article for the same issue.

i would like to know is there any solution for the issue. Also would like to know is this a bug from Microsoft or the Broadcom?

    hi
i'm havin similar trouble with my computer. when using it from the mains after and hour it switches off unexpectedly. When i try and switch it back on it will only stay on for another 10 minutes and then do the same thing. At the moment i've been using it without the mains and its been fine. I think the battery needs changing. I rang the helpline (08704448944) and they said it is possibly the fans and the cooling system in the laptop. Toshiba would be able to inspect your laptop and maybe repair the problem. I will wait and hope!

  • MacBook won't start on battery/shuts down when power adapter is removed

    Help & advice needed please.
My MacBook won't start without external power, it gives a whir then a click then nothing. Once started up, if I remove the external power it just shuts off.
The battery shows at 98% & charging. Coconut Battery shows the following:
Current battery charge 4126 (& increasing as I type)
    Maximum battery charge 4200
    Current battery capacity 4200
    Original battery capacity 5200
    80%
    Battery loadcycles 111
Age of your Mac 6 months
    Charger connected yes
    Battery is charging yes
Does anyone have a clue why the Mac won't power itself on the battery when everything else seems like it works?
    Cheers!

As of today, my MacBook and I have been together for 40 days. Yesterday, while I was happily surfing (on battery), it powered down with no warning. Okay, these things happen. I plugged it in, restarted, and all seemed to be fine. Battery was about 70%. I did other things on my other machines and when it was about 90%, unplugged it and everything was good. This morning after using it unplugged for 1.5 hours it did the same thing, but decided to only work with the power adapter, not on battery alone. When trying to boot without AC, it would try to spin the CD and then fall back into off. When on AC, if I pulled the adapter, it would last two seconds and go blank. I made an appt. with the Apple store (Fashion Show Mall, Las Vegas) for 3:20pm. I got there right at 3:20pm and the monitors showed I was 5th in line. Store was fairly packed, at least one patron at every display item. Monitors also said the next MacGenius appt. was "approx. 8:30pm." Glad I made an appt! I was served about 15 min. later, during which time the monitors had changed to "No more MacGenius appts. available today, please try tomorrow." However, one guy came by without an appt. and was told he would be put on standby and to come back in 30 min.
Once I explained my issue with my MacBook battery, my Genius tried one of his batteries. "I just want to make sure it's your battery and not your motherboard." My machine worked fine, so he said "No problem, I'll have you out of here in 10 minutes." He got me a brand new battery, tested it, and put my old one in a box on the rear counter with four others. He pulled the serial number from the "About this Mac" area, didn't need my receipt for purchase date or anything. I had even printed this page: http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/ to use as ammunition, but didn't need it. He did approve highly of my dashboard widget "iStat pro", available here: http://islayer.com/.
So the battery issue is a very common problem, and one that Apple has tried to deal with as painlessly as possible for the consumer. My Genius did ask if the battery showed an "X" in the icon bar, and I said no. Just wouldn't run on battery. On the way out of the store, one of the 3 MacBooks, in fact the one closest to the door, had an "X" on the battery icon. When I unplugged the power, it shut down immediately! The moral of the story is to contact Apple immediately with problems and give them a chance to fix them. Hope this helps others.

  • Shuts down without power adapter

Today my MacBook shutdown automatically when I was listening to some music. Now whenever it doesn't have the power adapter plugged in it will just down immediatley when I try to start it. Also, when I take the power adapter out, it will shut down. Is there an update for this?

There is a battery battery update. You might try to reset the SMC.

  • Internet usage(wifi or e/3g) or short time on stanby shuts down all network usage(texting, calling, internet) or requires phone restore?

itunes had been bugging me to update my software on the phone for about a week. On the day i was finally going to do it, the phone randomly shut down and restarted with the screen showing that the phone needed to be connected to itunes for some reason. i tried restarting the phone and resetting it, hoping the problem would go away, i didnt. When i connected to itunes on my computer, it said that an update was needed, but also the phone needed to be restored. when it was done, nothing was restored and i was left with a blank phone basiclly, not really a problem. The next day though, it shut down and came back up as a restore was needed again, and again, and again. For some reason now though, if i reset the phone while its on, turn it off, then back on, everything appears to be fine, though if i try to use the internet by wifi,3g, or e; it shuts all networks down on the phone. also while i have the phone just sitting by itself or when im just listening to music or something, the phone just shuts down and then comes back on as normal again, still not able to really use the internt though. Anyone have any ideas on this?

I understand how critical is to get emails while on our cellular network etymomel.
First I recommend removing your exchange server email completely, then power off and on to reset your device and then add email back. I also recommend to clear Data and Cache from your email application Menu>SystemSettings>Apps>All>EmailAccoutns(may be more than one)>ClearData/Cache as applicable. Keep us posted.

  • MacBook battery 100% charged, shut down, 8 hours later found no charge.

I fully charged my computer last night and shut it down. When I got this morning and went to turn it on, I was unable to. I plugged in the powercord and discovered that the battery had completely drained.
Has this happened to anyone else?
    Any ideas why this happened?
    Thanks.

As the previous poster suggested, my guess is that you didn't actually succeed in shutting it down.
Because the MacBook has a sudden motion sensor, if you move the MacBook during the shutdown process, shutdown may not complete and the MacBook stays on.
Best advice: when shutting down be sure shutdown is complete before moving the MacBook or closing it's lid.
This is really important before bagging a notebook computer. It is not a pretty sight when they wake up unexpectedly in a bag with no air flow.

  • My system sound volume resets to 100%  at shut down.  Why? And how can I fix it? Tried PRAM

Just in the past few days my iMac has decided it needs to reset its system sound volume to 100#% every time I shut it down, so it can blast me off my chair when I start it up next.  No amount of adjusting the volume, from system prefs or menu bar will keep it where I want it.  Tried resetting PRAM and system manager.  Nothing.  It just will not hold the volume setting.
Has anyone got any ideas for fixing this?
I'm using Lion - it isn't on the choice list of OSs.

Well gee thanks Baltwo, but I don't need instruction in the use of drop-down menus.  Had my OS been listed when i hit the drop-down, I'd surely have hit on my OS had it been there.
But it wasn't, you see..  Why? I don't know.  Perhaps the display problem I've benn having with my iMac since last August.  The display problem that the geniuses at my local Apple store can't fix because they can't decide if my machine needs a new  Vcard or not.  But they can sure keep my computer for a week playing with it and charging me for  it.
Sorry, but I'm tired of zero help from Apple with issues and irrelevant rsponses to my requests for help.

  • Network Adapter Security

    Hello,
Some mysterious application shuts down the network adapter in my server. Does anyone know some way to secure the network adapter i.e. prevent applications from modifying network adapter settings.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Enabling and disabling network adapter require administrative privileges.
You may try to set UAC to high to see if the issue persists.
If it does, please locate the exact process which did this, you may use Process Monitor.
    More information for you:

  • How do i shut down an old network and create a new one

I have a network that requires a password.  I changed the password, but people who were previously signed in can still access the network.  How can I shut down the network and start a new one with a new password?

Change both the name of the wireless network and the password
Make sure that you are using WPA2 Security
If you give the password to anyone, you should assume that they will give it to someone else.

  • It keeps shutting down even though I set it to never

I got my Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13 on my 14th birthday on the 18 September, the first time it was used was when I used it. I put it on, set it up, logged on to all my accounts but after 10 minutes it just shut down my sister said it was defualt setting and that I have to change to 'never'. I went Control Panel - System and Security - Power Options on the side clicked "Change when comuptar sleeps" and changed it to Never sleep with turn of display at 1 hour and dim the display at 30 minutes. Yet everytime I use it it shuts down after 10 minutes, so I changed it to 30 minutes to test and it shuts down after 30 minutes but if you go above 30 minutes it won't do it. Please help I need to change it it shuts down over 20 times a day, when I watch a movie I have to restart it more than 5 times and for a episode for my shows The Vampire Diaries, Once Upon A Time, Game Of Thrones, and The 100 it shuts down 1o minutes before the episode finishes. I need to fix it help me please.

This is feature of faulty battery. Most likely you still have Warranty or possibly AppleCare, make Genius reservation and take to Apple for evaluation.

  • My itunes account shuts down for no reason.  It wont recognize my iphone and there is an issue with network connectivity and itunes.  I have already  reinstalled itunes and did a syste restore on my computer, firewall checked and virus scan done.  Ideas??

My itunes account on windows xp shuts down for no reason.  If even try to delete something from my library it shuts down.   It wont recognize my iphone and there is an issue with network connectivity and I can't connect to the store.  I have already  reinstalled itunes and did a system restore on my computer, firewall has been checked, itunes is ok on firewall and virus scan done.  Ideas??

Same problem. I can see the itunes store so not a problem with windows firewall. The account is active on my iphone so i know i am not locked out. I can connect the PC to my iphone so i know itunes is working ok. It is just logging into itunes on this pc which doesn't work. Only thing I can think of is that the email address I use for my apple id has been offline for a while and is working again now, I'm wondering whether this has been the case for others who are having this issue?

  • Macbook Air shuts down if it is not plugged into the power outlet through the adapter. What is happening?

    Problem description:
Mid-2013 Macbook Air 13 inch. Shuts down when unplugged from power adapter. It 1st started just shutting down intermittently on battery power. Sometimes when it powers back-up on the battery power only the fan would be blowing hard. But it is now at the point that if it is not connected to the power adapter it will not come on. I have tried resetting SMC and PRAM but to no avail. The battery is showing 100% charge with only 137 battery cycle count.

Tried to reset SMC many times but it didn't change anything. The battery however is no longer being charged by the adapter even the computer is plugged in. The light remains orange. I restored to one of my earlier back-ups on time machine with Mavericks and the iWorm and malware returned. So, I decided to erase the hard drive and restore to original OS. I was able to restore to Yosemite. Here is the result of the latest estrecheck and battery info:

At this point, the computer works fine with the adapter plugged in, light remains orange, the battery is not being charged. I believe the computer will still turn off once I unplugged the adapter from the computer although the battery is supposedly 88% charged.
If this is a hardware problem I hope it's just the battery. I believe that's the next step I have to take. Unless anyone has any other ideas.

As the title suggests, my laptop (Alienware m17x) is installed with the Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter and Windows 7 64bit Home Premium.  I have had several other driver incompatibility issues with Windows 7, but those I have slowly been able to resolve.  This however just cropped up after two months of successful use.  Yesterday it started failing to connect to the internet, telling me that no wireless connections are available.  I live in a dorm, and everyone else on my floor has successful wireless, including my Ipod Touch, PS3 and XBox 360.  I called Alienware/Dell Support and we spent hours trying to fix the problem and all look well until I rebooted my laptop this morning and the same issue reappeared.  When I reboot my laptop, all I get is a notification that no networks appear in range.  If I uninstall the broadcom chip and let windows install it after a boot up it works until the machine is rebooted a second time.  I have tried over a dozen windows 7 drivers for the chip, and about half a dozen vista drivers and they all have the same results, works on the first boot, fails every time after that

Just registered to say, on an Alienware M17x system as well running Windows 7 Ultimate, here is a link to a solution that worked exactly for me:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/436486-guide-properly-solve-wireless-connection-problems-m17x.html
All I did was section I.a. If the link is down, I copied the only section that I needed to follow out of this guide, in order to get my wireless to work repeatedly without having to uninstall the wireless driver every single reboot. Now it works perfectly,
already connected to a wireless network on startup.
I.a. Disable Device sleep on disconnect
Some newer Nvidia Ethernet drivers have a feature called Device sleep on disconnect. This is the culprit. Normally, it should only put the Ethernet adapter to sleep when the cable is disconnected, but it's buggy and thus kills the wireless connection as
    well.
Follow these steps to disable this feature on your Nvidia Ethernet Adapter:
    1. Open the Windows Device Manager by hitting Win+Pause, then click on Device Manager on the left side.
    2. Double-click on Network adapters.
    3. Double-click on NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller (yes, that's the wired Ethernet adapter indeed).
    4. Click on the Advanced tab.
    5. Select Device sleep on disconnect.
    6. Set the Value to Disabled.
    7. Click OK and wireless should work again (might require a reboot afterwards, but probably not).
