Oo4o release 10.1.0.5.1

Hello every body,
I have problem with oo4o release 10.1.0.5.0 april 2004 with windows 2003 server ... under heavy load it always causes the crash of IIS worker process w3wp.exe ...
I read on metalink about new release of OO4O 10.1.0.5.1 Nov 2004 ... but unfortunately I could not find a way to download it from metalink nor from OTN ....
the one avaiable on OTN is dated 5/5/05 however after I download it ... it was the same old release of april 2004 with oo4o 10.1.0.5.0
PLEASE i NEED URGENT HELP BEFORE MARKET OPENS
THANKS

It is bound to be under the patches link on MetaLink. If you call support they can get you the actual patch/bug number so you can more easily find it.

    I can't seem to get my application to work with the 10.2 client. I've heard that OO4O is not supported past 10.2 x86. First question is can someone clarify this - should I be able to use OO4O from Oracle version 10.2 on a Windows 7 x64 box? If so I need to know the specifics. My development machine is Windows XP and 10.2 works there but it's an x86 box.

    First you should consider marking this question ANSWERED and reposting it in the Oracle forum for OO4O and Wizards.

    If you know anything at all about Oracle your knowledge should include the fact that if it isn't on the Official release notes it isn't supported.
    The last release of OO4O (10.1.0.5.2) was March 2005 and these are the release notes

    Oracle Objects for OLE (OO4O) Release Notes
    Release 10.1.0.5.2
    March 2005
    System Requirements
    Operating System: Windows NT 4.0 SP6a, Windows 2000 SP1, Windows XP, Windows 2003.
    32-bit application capable of OLE scripting (e.g. Visual Basic, Excel, etc.) or supported C++ compiler (Microsoft Visual C++).
    Access to an Oracle8i, Oracle9i or Oracle10g database through a local connection or a network using the Net client. Oracle Net will need to be installed when accessing the Oracle database through a network.
    Oracle 10.1.0.2.0 client.
    >
    So there are two things working against you: no mention of Windows 7 (it didn't exist) and the client mentioned is 10.1.0.2.0 not 10.2.xxx
    So even if you think it is working chances are it isn't working properly.
    >
    Second question - what are my workarounds? I assume there is another Oracle Object I can use for basic database communications. What is that object, and what types of changes am I going to have to make to my code in order to use it?
    >
    Who knows? Without knowing what functionality you are using and relying on there isn't any way to know what workarounds might be available or what changes you will need to make.

    New Features
    ============
    New Features supported for the 32-bit In Process OLE Automation Server:
    With this release, OO4O provides four new objects that enable developers to access and manipulate the new datetime and interval datatypes introduced in Oracle9i.

  • Oo4o Runtime-Error 429

    We are successfully using oo4o (8.0.6) to get data from ORACLE Release 7.3 into Word (Office 97 and Office XP). The clients are using NT 4.0 or Windows XP.
    We tried to install the application on a Windows 2003 terminal server with citrix.
    We use the following releases:
    - oo4o: 8.0.6.3.9
    - net: 8.0.6.3.9
    - rdbms: 7.3.4
    - Word: Office XP
    Starting our test-program we get the message:
    "Run-Time Error '429': ActiveX component can't create object"
    The statement "Set OraSession = CreateObject(..." causes the error.
    There may be a problem with the registration of the oip8.dll.
    What can we do to solve the problem ?
    We cannot use a 9i-client because of the ORACLE 7.3 rdbms.

    What's netbet pro?
    I'd recommend asking questions about third party applications in the vendor's forum, not a Microsoft forum meant for admin scripting.

  • Are the ODT tools really included in ODAC 11.2 Release 3 (11.2.0.2.1)

    I have installed ODAC 11.2 Release 3 and Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio (11.2.0.2.1) using the download at http://download.oracle.com/auth/otn/other/ole-oo4o/ODTwithODAC112021.zip onto a PC running VS2010 running Windows XP Professional SP3.
    This has successfully installed the Oracle data providers and "ODAC Documentation for Visual Studio 2010" (which I can access and use successfully from within VS2010) but there is no sign of any of the ODT tools !
    I have tried digging into the install files and can find no evidence of the ODT install.
    Can anyone confirm (or not) that ODT is part of this install please ?

    Thanks for the updates - yes, I forgot to say that I am running VS2010 Premium, sorry.
    I don't get ODP.NET in Server Explorer, I only get the standard Microsoft providers (including Microsoft's Oracle provider).

    Could anyone point me at something in the VS configuration files that should reference ODT so that I can definitively say whether the tools have been installed and properly integrated.

  • Read/write XML via OO4O

    We have some ASP code (Active Server Pages) that uses OO4O to select/insert data in an Oracle 8i rel. 2 database (The OO4O objects are from the same release 8.1.6). Now we would like to enhance it to read and store some XML documents directly (the XML documents are about 10 KB and have nested master/detail like structure).
    Our first idea was to write a stored procedure with a string argument to save the XML document, and to write a stored function also returning a string to retrieve the same data. But it appears that there is a 4KB limitation here (we thought it was a 32 KB limitation, but have only been able to get 4 KB?).
    Then we tried to use the RAW parameter type (although the documentation recommends not to), but this apparently requires the data top be transformed to binary format (the XML is in ISO8859-1 format).
    Have you any suggestions on how to overcome these limitations?
    Or are we simply going in the wrong direction (Is there a better way to use XML via OO4O than with stored procedures)?
    Regards
    Tom Bjerre.
    NB: The stored procedures written in Java look like:
    public static String get_xml(String key) throws SQLException{...}
    public static void set_xml(String key, String xmlStr) throws SQLException{...}
    with call specs of:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE TEST AUTHID DEFINER AS
    FUNCTION GET_XML ("key" IN VARCHAR2)
    RETURN VARCHAR2
    AS LANGUAGE JAVA
    NAME 'Test.UtilXML.get_xml(java.lang.String) return java.lang.String';
    PROCEDURE SET_XML ("key" IN VARCHAR2, "xmlStr" IN VARCHAR2)
    AS LANGUAGE JAVA
    NAME 'Test.UtilXML.set_xml(java.lang.String, java.lang.String)';
    END TEST;
    null

    CHAR is limited to 2k.
    VARCHAR2 is limited to 4k.
    You should be using CLOB if you're
    saving XML strings.

  • OO4O & VC++ 4.0

    Hi,
    I would like to use OO40 in a VC++ 4.0 project.
    I am using the version 8.1.6.3.13 for OO4O and Oracle 8i 8.1.6 Release 2 for Database.
    I have included the needed libraries.
    I have tried to compile the project, and I have got a lot of compilation errors into oracl.h file, like these:
    c:\orant81\oo4o\cpp\include\Oracl.h(751) : error C2501: 'bool' : missing decl-specifiers
    c:\orant81\oo4o\cpp\include\Oracl.h(751) : error C2146: syntax error : missing ';' before identifier 'GetAutoCommit'
    c:\orant81\oo4o\cpp\include\Oracl.h(752) : error C2061: syntax error : identifier 'bool'

    c:\orant81\oo4o\cpp\include\Oracl.h(1826) : error C2501: 'bool' : missing decl-specifiers
    I have read the documentation of this version of OO4O and I know that it isn't compatible with VC++ 4.0. So, I would like to know:
    Which is the compatible version of OO4O with VC++ 4.0?
    Where can I find it?.
    Please reply also to my e-mail.
    Thank you a lot.

  • OO4O process never killed/clean up after session=NULL

    After session object is set to NULL, still the oracle processes are in memory, never cleaned up. Does require any special methods to kill the process.
    dbObject.Close(); // called
    dbSession = NULL ; // set session object to null
    Oracle processes are still in memory and crashes server.
    Using Oracle ver 8.1.7/OO4O 3.15
    What is wrong here?
    Anyone came across similar issues..

    Have you tried to remove all OraParameters after stored procedure call and before assigning null to session?
    Otherwise there may be circullar references between OraDatabase and OraParameter causing memory leak after releasing your reference to OraSession.

  • OO4O in NET framework

    As there is no immediate plan to make object-relational features in ODP.NET, does Oralce plan to release any bridge to make OO4O accessible from .NET framework?

    Hi!
    You can already use OO4O in .NET through COM Interop. Right click on References/Add References.
    Then choose the COM tab and select the Oracle InProc Server.
    There you go!
    You noticed that all classes have been prefixed with "Class". So the session object is now called "OraSessionClassClass".
    For some reasons, almost all functions in OO4O returns objects. So, if you're in C# or in VB.NET with the strict option on, you'll have some type casting to do.
    But if you need Oracle advanced features, please try ODP.NET. From the tests I ran here, it's at least twice faster than OO4O.

  • Is Oracle planning to continue oo4o?

    I'm new (2 months) to oo4o, having inherited a project that uses it extensively.
    Does anyone know what Oracle's plans are for oo4o? I see there's a version for 9i, which bodes well. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

    The following is a personal opinion and an observation.
    I expect that in the near term the answer is 'yes' in the sense that new versions will be released with bug fixes. New features will probably be sparse; note that the 9i versions of OO4O (still) do not support the new 9i data types.
    Longer term you should consider ODP.NET.
    If I were maintaining existing code, I would let it be unless sweeping changes were needed. New projects I would consider alternatives.

  • Supporting Multiple OO4O Versions

    Is it possible for an application to support two different versions of the OO4O C++ Class Library without having to compile two different versions of said application? We'd like our application to be able to support an 8i AND a 9i version of OO4O. Based on research thus far, this doesn't sound like a viable option, but I'd like another developer to confirm this. Thanks.

    I have run into a problem with using a Visual Basic 6 application written for Oracle 8i (8.1.7) client and OO4O. It was built and runs on Windows 2000 and XP Pro.
    The application does not work with the Oracle 9i Release 2 client running on Windows XP Pro. Even though we do have MDAC 2.8 and the VB6 runtime installed. Not sure if it had service packs for VB6 or not.
    As a matter of fact, the Oracle 9i client install does not even install OO4O. We had to download and install ODAC for 9i.
    The strange thing is we do not get an error on the 9i client even though the password does not get changed.
    Anybody have any updates on OO4O having upwards and backwards compatibility? Are there certain service packs or hot fixes that need to be installed? Is there some conflict happening?
    Or could I use the typelib from 8i OO4O (oip8.tlb) in the 9i client for it to work?Maybe late binding should have been used instead of early binding?
    Would like to upgrade the 8i servers and clients to 9iR2, but this problem is preventing that form happening. Had to uninstalll the 9i client and then install the 8i client for the application to work.

  • Future of OO4O

    Doesn't seem like Oracle is shipping a 64-bit version of OO4O (Oracle Objects for OLE).
    Does anyone know whether the 32-bit verison will continue to be maintained / supported in future releases of Oracle?
    Or is it better off to look for other 32-bit database engine alternatives at this point?
    If so, any suggestions as to what to replace it with?
    Any input will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    That question has been around for a while. When I started using OO4O in 99, there was people asking the same question. I can't say because I don't work for Oracle, but it is a trong product with probably a good load of legacy apps using it, so it should be around for a while.

  • Oo4o in windows 7 64

    Hi,
    I have windows 7 64 bit and i installed Oracle client 11g 32bit - full installation.
    In Excel i still get Run-time error '429': ActiveX component can't create object when i run my macro
    in the project References i checked all oracle related references.
    My understanding is that oo4o should still work in windows 7 with a 32 bit oracle client (unsupported of course).
    Does anyone have a hint on what should i do?
    thanks

    gdarling wrote:
    As you've indicated, it is indeed not supported to run 32 bit oo4o on a 64 bit OS.A bit late in the game, but I cannot find that exception documented.
    In the requirements section of 11.2 for Windows platform docs, it is stated that 32-bit Client is certified on Windows x64 (with no exceptions, as compared to earlier release).
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e16774/pre_install.htm#BHCGEBHG
    The 11.2 Release Notes, Unsupported products says "Oracle Objects for OLE - Not supported on Windows x64. ". But I assume (it being somewhat unclear and) it's trying to say that x64 version of Oracle software does not contain OO4O component.
    I thought the 'no support' was related to that a 64-bit OO4O does not exist (and the limited certification for 32-bit components that was in 11.1). Maybe there's some other document that would provide clarification.
