Oops I lost my Iphoto Library

Having just installed Leopard, I bought an external 2 raid drive unit to use for photo and music storage on 1 drive and Time Machine on the other.
I moved the iPhoto library file to raid 1, but now when I start Iphoto, it doesn't see any photos at all. How can I tell IPhoto to look for the iPhoto library on the external drive.
Sweating... - my iPhoto Library is 49 gig with over 12000 pictures
Walt

hold down the option key and open iPhoto - click choose library and navigate to your library on your external drive.

Installed YOSEMITE. Lost entire iPhoto Library on my iMac. Tried Apple's UPGRADER 6 times. No LUCK. Please help.

Your iPhoto library is usually kept in your pictures folder.  Did you look there?  If it is still there then you did lose your photos.  Just need to get the iPhoto app at the latest level.

  • I have lost my iphoto library, it is now just a white package icon

If someone could suggest the best course of action for me I would be very grateful . I have lost my photos like many here. I had backups etc, carbon clone and Time machine,For some reason my ilibrary seemed to be opening from my external drive and I just could not understand this. When I switched off the external I had no iphoto library any more.
Becoming increasingly confused I also detected, using mackeeper,  that there were various trojans in my external.
Rightly or wrongly, I started to think these two problems might be related and set about clreaning first the internal and then the extrernal. The process of searching and deleting the harddrive (3TB) and my internal drive trying to clean all the mess up was taking so long that I eventually decided to delete some of the backup files in Time machine beacuse there was at least 2TB of backup
Anyway, after all that I cannot find my photo library at all. I have a white iphoto library now located in the FINDER within the PICTURES area that is said to have 14 GB. It is liisted as a package. I do not understand what that means. But it  cannot be opened  in any way.
Should I now start a new iphoto library in iphoto and try and import this package.  As I have already mentioned, I would be grateful for any help, as all I have now are thousands of deleted photos that were in the trash..
    Thankyou

Stop wasting your time with anti-virus junk.
What should I now use as a virus program? Are these programs not necessary on  the MAC?
... My mission is to find a simple virus protection and start all over again.
... I just want something simple.
Your chosen anti-virus solution is likely to have caused the problem to begin with. OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it updated with software updates from Apple. It doesn't get any simpler than that.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Disable Java in Safari > Preferences > Security.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • Lost my iPhoto library using iboostup.

somehow i managed to put my whole iphoto library in the trash then did a quick clean using iboostup now have lost all photos, work and family. Is there any way i can undo the quick clean and recover my photos. any help would be greatly appreciated.

"Normal" use of the trash (provided you don't use "securely empty trash") may allow data recovery software such as DataRescue to locate and recover your files. I'm not familiar with how iBoostup works; if it simply empties the trash, this may still work.
However, if you have Time Machine set up, backing up automatically to an external hard drive, your better approach is to look at the TM data. In your menubar (at the top right of the screen) you'll see a series of icons; one is the Time Machine icon (it's a small "clock" symbol with a curved arrow pointing anti-clockwise). Click that and click "Enter Time Machine". If the backups are running, you should then see a "starscape" screen with dates along the right side. You can go back to before you did the cleanup, navigate into the Pictures folder, choose the iPhoto Library and click Recover.
More information on Time Machine recovery (click Restoring Data from Time Machine Backups):

  • I lost my iPhoto library..how do I restore from time machine?

Yesterday, I upgraded my late 2008 MacBook Pro to OS X Maverick 10.9.1.  Everything was functioning fine.  Then, I decided to purchase the iphoto upgrade so I can take advantage of the icloud feature.  After I did this, my entire iphoto library was replaced by a folder called Recoverd iPhoto Library.  The vast majority of my many photos were missing.  I have been backing up onto a hard drive regularly.  When I went to restore my iPhoto library, it told me that it couldn't be restored because there is not enough space on my laptop.  In fact, my entire hard drive is smaller than the size of the iPhoto library on my G-slim drive.  When I try to restore, it tells me that there is not enough space.  But yesterday it was all on my mac.  How is this possible and how do I get these pictures back onto my laptop?  Is there a way to restore my entire system to a previous date?  Thanks!

OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.

  • I lost my iPhoto library on external disk so how do I recover iPhone photos to iPhoto on MacBook?

I moved all of my photos to an external disk.  No other backup.  Big mistake. Now, how do I transfer photos on my iPhone (albums, events, faces) to my MacBook iPhoto library, which is now empty?

It sounds like you were running a  "referenced"  library? Were you?
If you didi and you moved the photos to the EHD you would get a "Can't find XXXXX" message when you try to view a photos.  Is that what you get?
Are those photos still on the EHD?  You'll  have to explain in more detail exactly what you did and how you did it before we can give you any suggestions on how to get back in business.

  • Have I lost my iPhoto Library?

I recently had to restore my iPhoto library from Carbonite. I can summon it up when I open iPhoto, but the iPhoto icon is greyed out when I open the Pictures file in User and I can't access the pictures as a screen saver. Can anyone help?

    HI,
    Try repairing disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • OMG I think I lost my iPhoto library and no backup!

I am running yosimite and have been for a while now..
The other day I went to open my photo library and got a message saying the iPhoto library had to update. I let it run and it still would not open.   It was frozen for along time so i and to force quite and restart.
I did that when I went to load my iPhone it was like there was no library there.   I then went to my time machine and realized it was not backing up my external drive.
I then decided to go into the actual iPhoto file. Went to show package contents.  then went to originals and there is only one folder there from 2014 thats it.
I do know that the photos are someplace on my hard drive because I used a program called disk drill to recover the photos they are there but the problem is mixed in with all of the photos are the thunmbail photos..... is there a way to fix the original file?
There is a file called old masters that seems to have most of the images in it.  can I do something with that?

Just want to add to this that there are folders called Before Restore  Before Restore_2 Before Restore_3 Before Restore_4    Here are all the files in my iPhoto
    library folder---
One last comment-  seems like the folder old masters seems to have all of my photos in tac  now how do I fix and restore them all?

  • IPhoto keywords lost on iPhoto Library import

I'm running 10.6, and as such I'm running iPhoto 2009 (v8.1.2) and Aperture v3.2.4.  I've imported my iPhoto library using the "Import->Iphoto Library" command into a newly created, blank Aperture library.  It runs smoothly, but after the import is completed none of the photos have their keywords.  There's maybe 2000 photos so I am not relishing the idea of loading these keywords a second time.
I've only got keywords for my family members, i.e. John, Rachel, Cora, etc.  Do I have to create these keywords first in Aperture before doing the import?
    Thanks,
    John F

I tried a few more times, and now I've got the keywords.  I'm not sure exactly why I was not getting them on the previous tries.  I did not have to rebuild the original iPhoto library.

  • HELP! i lost my iphoto library!

i tried to open my iphoto library just now but apparently i dont have it... its an alias. or somthing... i know how to use computers excet when they stuff up so this has me stumped... i looked in the trash and it wasnt there. the alias wont open, it asks me to find the original. i have no ideea what that means.
if anyone has any idea what is going on. please help me. i need my photos!!!
    thanks
    Mary Elizabeth

An alias of a file is an icon that looks like the original and will point to the original. If you click on the alias, the original should open. However, I don't know if that applies to the iPhoto Library.
Did you mean that you were trying to open iPhoto? The iPhoto Library is the storage file for all your photos. iPhoto is the application to use to view and edit your photos. See this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=165521
Do you know if your photos are still on your computer? By default, they are stored in the Pictures folder. Open that, and see if you have the library there, and if there are photos in it. DON'T CHANGE OR RENAME OR MOVE ANYTHING--just see if your photos are there.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=165521
In iPhoto 5's iPhoto Library, you should see something like this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61262
If you see that the files are there, you can rebuild your library and see if that will recover the photos for you. Follow these steps to rebuild your library:
    QUIT IPHOTO FIRST
Relaunch while holding down the key combination Command+Option. See this for tips: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107947
Post back if any of this is not clear, or if you are still having problems.

  • I lost my iPhoto Library! Can someone help me find it?

Yesterday, I tried to open iPhoto and received a message stating that my iPhoto Library could not be found and asked if would I like to find it. Yes, I would really like to find it but haven't a clue about how to do so. I hadn't used iPhoto in a week or two and hadn't made any changes, so what happened and how can I find all my photos? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Your iPhoto Library should be in your Pictures folder.
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. Click on Locate, and navigate to the Pics folder and select the iPhoto Library Folder there.

  • Lost the iphoto library

Yesterday we went into Iphoto and it would not open because it stated it could not find the library. I had been into it several days ago and all was well. I had downloaded some new pictures from the camera and all the old pictures were there like they should be. So I tried searching for the library but I could not find the pictures that were previously there. All the albums that were there previously could not be found. There was a library that I finally found but it did not have the recent pictures that had been downloaded from the camera. To be honest the pictures in this library were ones I thought I had burned to a CD and then deleted from Iphoto.
Can anyone tell me where the old library went with the recent picture. Like a fool I deleted them from the camera thinking I was okay. Now I am in trouble. Help please!!!

    Larry,
Every iPhoto Library folder will have the file iPhoto.db in it. Even if the data file is damaged Spotlight will still find it by it's name.
On the library/libraries you do find this way, I want you to navigate through them and see if your images might still be there in the finder.
This is a view of how the iPhoto Library looks in the Finder.
It is organized by Year folders. Inside the Year folders are Month folders. Inside the Month folders are the days of the Month. Inside the day folders are the photos you took on that day. If you imported video clips and RAW files on that day they will be in an Originals folder. If you have edited any photo imported on that day, the original will be in that folder also.

  • I Lost my iphoto library when backing up to my hard drive.

I thought I was backing up my iphoto library to my hard drive.  I dragged it off my dock and dropped it onto the external hard drive.  The cloud poof came up. I took it to the Mac store because I was having problems with my speakers. They said I needed to update my OS.  I installed Snow Leopard. Since then I have NOT been able to find part of my iphoto library.  I have everything through Aug 2012.  Everything since September forward is gone. I have tried everything, but cannot seem to find it. Any ideas?

Here is what I have tried so far...I found 'pictures'
    file:///Users/suzannekelly/Pictures/
Then when I click on pictures this comes up...
    file:///Users/suzannekelly/Pictures/iPhoto%20Library/
Then when I click on the iphoto folder these four options come up...
    file:///Users/suzannekelly/Pictures/iPhoto%20Library/iPhoto.ipspot
    file:///Users/suzannekelly/Pictures/iPhoto%20Library/AlbumData2.xml
    file:///Users/suzannekelly/Pictures/iPhoto%20Library/AlbumData.xml
    file:///Users/suzannekelly/Pictures/iPhoto%20Library/Metadata%20Backup/
Then when I click on the 4th one, Matadata backup the following three options come up...
    file:///Users/suzannekelly/Pictures/iPhoto%20Library/Metadata%20Backup/Globals.i pmeta
    file:///Users/suzannekelly/Pictures/iPhoto%20Library/Metadata%20Backup/BackupSta tus.ipmeta
    file:///Users/suzannekelly/Pictures/iPhoto%20Library/Metadata%20Backup/Albums/
Then when I click on Albums the following comes up...
The following file could not be imported (The file is an unrecognized format)
    /Users/suzannekelly/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Metadata Backup/Albums/Album.5562.ipmeta
I am currently using iPhoto 09.  Like I said, I have everything BEFORE September of 2012, and nothing since then.
    Thanks,

  • Lost my Iphoto Library

About a week ago I go to my into Iphoto and see nothing, thinking maybe the default library got changed I went right to the location of the library and opened it from there, and no photos where found.  I opened up the library data and it looks like all the photos are there so I don't panic knowing that they are still on my external hard drive. Restart hope for the best, nothing.  Rebuild the library, nothing.  Bought Iphoto Manager didn't help.  Upgraded Iphoto (wish I didn't) didn't help.
I am currently backing up my huge photo library about 118gb to a new hard drive I got today just to preserve it before I mess with much more. BTW I would get some photos back by dropping the old photo library into the new one, but by doing this about 30 minutes into the process the mac just gives up and turns off.  I can get some back by restarting but they are all recovered photos and I lose my events and other data.  Any help would be great. This newest I idea I have is to stop the import process about 2000 photos or so in and let those photos be rebuild hopefully saving any data continue the process until it is done (about 20 times at about 30 minutes each try).
When I try to to import the library or any photos in that library via drap and drop it tells me they are already there and can't be imported.
    Here is my specs
    Mac 10.6.8
    2.4 Intel Core Duo
    4GB SDRAM
    Thanks for any help, Josh

What version of iPhoto do you have now?
Upgrading the app will rarely fix a damaged Library.
DId you get any error messages withiPhoto Library Manager ?
Never import one Library to another - all the versions get treated as a individual images so you get massive duplication, you loe all your organisation, keywords etc etc etc
