Opacity issues in CS5

Would anyone know why my opacity only works when it wants to when putting clips together in premiere?
Here is an example of what I am doing: I am creating 4 key frames in the beginning of a clip which slightly overlaps the end of another clip. Those key frames are set to 0, 50%,50%,100%.
Being that the first key frame that I set was put to zero, my clip entire opacity gets set to zero and none of my other 3 key frames do anything, but if you click on the key frame they do read the value that I set them too.
now this only happens sometimes becuase this same exact process works in other places throughout the video.
What I have done to try to resolve this:
1)Regular reinstall using windows uninstaller
2)Uninstall using Revo Uninstaller, which also cleared my registry files.
3)regular Uninstall using windows + Clean Script CS5
4)Revo Uninstaller on a safe setting + Clean Script CS5
5)Revo Uninstaller on a regular setting + Clean Script CS5
I still have this same issue...
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Brian

Sorry but I dont understand much of your post... but I will take the opportunity to have another rant about Opacity in PPRO in case it enlightens you.
For reasons that no one can ever explain to my satisfaction... OPACITY automatically sets a Key frame as soon as you touch it (or even breathe on it).  It does not matter where in the clip,  your CTI is...it sets a keyframe at that point  (automatically). Unlike other fixed Effects!
You may have done this inadvertantly somewhere (and not realised the dumb illogical behaviour of this  function).
Key framing protocol generally is you set the first one manually  and the subsequent ones are automatically set.
Its a trap that bites me a lot because Opacity is also part of the fantastic Blend Modes.  When one has a little "creative play".. the damned Opacity is set AUTOMATICALLY all through the clip!
It doesnt work this way in AEFX as a good example.   (If its such a good idea. in PPRO .why not in AEFX ? -  and arguably a more profesional app.)
(Dont ask me to Feature Request this.  I have done so previously and the lack of response and how the thing  DOESNT work... is a major irritant to me.)

  • Compatibility issues with CS5.5 and Maverick 10.9

I'd like to know if there are any compatibility issues with CS5.5 and Maverick 10.9 before I upgrade from 10.6.8.

To be honest, I use the CS5 Premium Creative Suite and have had to upgrade all my app's to Mavericks because I have a new iMac, the other one just died.
I used the 'Time Machine' to backup and to transfer all the files, the Mac apps almost transferred 100% but not all successfully, especially iDVD, it was probably something that I did not click in the 'Time Machine preferences'.
If I had the choice, upgrade to 'Mountain Lion, I would revert back to Mountain Lion but not got the discs, I find Mavericks very clunky and slow and causing lots of issues with my Adobe applications.
So if it is not too late, I would wait a few months before upgrading to Mavericks.
    Hope this info' has helped.

  • Issues Illustrator CS5 ink manager/file collection/rotating views

I work alot on food packaging in illustrator and have a few issues with CS5 that perhaps someone has a workaround for?
I need to be able to view effective ppi resolution on links and collect/package all links into a folder. These features are in indesign, why not illustrator?? It would make sense for the effective PPI/final output resolution to be displayed in the links panel like it is in indesign.
Man i wish they had included the ability to rotate the view in illustrator, would save a lot of neck strain on boxes.
Regarding inkmanager, i want to create a pdf for client proofing from an illustrator file that has 3 spot colours and cmyk, there is no option to convert spot colours to process in illustrator like there is in indesign. The spot colours are coming out black in the pdf instead of the actual colour.

Effective PPI of Linked Images: Although you cannot see the effective PPI in Links panel, you can find the effective PPI of a linked image in the control panel once you select the linked image
Convert Spot to Process: Spot colors can be converted to process in Illustrator, select all objects applied with spot color and then access Edit Menu > Edit Colors > Convert to CMYK or Select the Spot swatch in Swatches panel edit the spot swatch and make it process. These are alternate ways you can convert Spot colors to Process.
Spot colors should not be exported as Black in PDF, please report this issue to Adobe, before doing that please check whether Overprint Preview is turned on in Acrobat. You can check this Illustrator itself by place linking the exported PDF in new document and turn on Overprint Preview.

  • Compatibility issues between CS5.5 & new macs?

Hello all. Does anyone know if there are compatibility issues between Audition CS5.5 and new macs? Just got a 2013 MacBook Pro (OS X 10.9) and haven't been able to install my copy of CS5..5, which I've been using on an older mac for years. I've tried both the original installation disc and a download.
    Thanks!
    -- Tony

Depends entirely on the application. You should probably visit the
    individual product forums for details.
I will tell you this. For InDesign you're not going to be happy at all.

  • Anybody have this TEXT TOOL ISSUE with CS5???

i'm on a pc that meets all system requirements for cs5 photoshop and notice that whenever i use the text tool and try to increase/decrease the size, leading or anything, i can not see my results in real time, i have to manually CLICK outside of the text area or in the gray area of the document for photoshop to actually make the change, almost like when you use the transform tool and resize things but have to *commit* the changes, so imagine if you were doing that only you couldnt actually see what size you were resizing your object to.
someone else in the office seems to be having this exact same issue as well. it's like closing your eyes to do your work and then opening them back up once you *think* you have the right font size or leading.
any help would be much appreciated!!!!!

If it's a "Mobility" card then chances are it's in a laptop, and many laptop manufacturers are required to be the source for driver updates.  You might have
to check with the computer maker.
If there's not a driver update for it, it's possible you could try downgrading the driver to an older version if one can be found.
What operating system are you running (XP, Vista, 7, 32 or 64 bit)?
I see they have a new release for your card for Vista and Windows 7 32 bit, for example, here:  http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-32.aspx

  • Issues with CS5 Liquify in my iMac with a AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB Graphics Card

I have been trying to get to the bottom of this issue on my own, but to no avail.  I am running Photoshop CS5.1 Extended on an iMac with an i7, 16 GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB graphic card.  I am running OSX Lion.  Speed of the computer should NOT be an issue, but my liquify tool is impossibly slow.  I have seen others having this issue, but am not finding resolutions.  I have updated all of my software (Lion, CS5) and updated my drivers.  I have uninstalled Photoshop and reinstalled it, but still, no help.
My Liquify tool is so slow that it is impossible to use.  It does not register if I release the mouse either and I often have to click a few times to release the brush.  I have Photoshop 5.1 on a PC and the Liquify runs very smoothly.
Has this issue been addressed?  I am wondering if it has a root in how CS5 is reacting to the graphics card?  When I called Adobe, they swore it was Apple's fault.  When I talked to Apple, they were positive the blame lay with Adobe.  I just want a fix.  (Hey, I'll take a CS6 beta if that'll fix it.  )
    Thank you,
    Rachel

Do you have any third party plugins installed?  If so, have you tried disabling them?  (one was showng to cause a slowdown, but I don't have my office notes handy at the moment to remember which one)
Also, there was one obscure third party utiliity program (haxie) that also caused slowdowns in Liquify. (and again, my notes are at the office, so I don't recall the name)
And you can try the usual: trash/reset Photoshop's preferences.
Oh, and Lion still has a bunch of video driver bugs that Apple is continuing to work on.
Sorry I don't have more definite info right now.

  • Roto Brush issue in CS5 Premiere Pro

I am a new CS5 user with a week of learning under my belt.  (My previous experience was splicing 8mm film together when making films as a kid.)  I am hoping someone can advise on an issue I am encountering in CS5 Premiere Pro?  (I realize Roto Brush is a tool in After Effects, but I am having trouble with the output of the Roto Brush tool in Premiere Pro.)
I opened a .VOB file (taken from a DVD) in Premiere Pro (first I changed the extension to .MPG).  It opened as 720 x 480 at 23.976 fps.  No problems scrubbing through and using the Razor tool.  I selected one of the small razored subsections I made from the video, and opened it in After Effects using the Premiere Pro menu selection: File>Adobe Dynamic Link>Replace With After Effects Composition.  No problem opening in After Effects.  I learned the Roto Brush tool and it also worked great as I successfully masked out a moving figure - looks great.  But ...
When I return to Premiere Pro, the After Effect composition does not display the same as it did in After Effects.  Specifically there appears to be some kind of mask/motion mismatch, and so a bluish border will appear on some frames around the figure as it moves.  In After Effects the rotoscope is perfect, but in Premiere it is like a poorly done rotoscope with the borders of the figure messed up.  I am hoping the comparison images below will make this clear.  The image on the left shows the perfectly rotoscoped figure in After Effects, and on the right the same frame but in Premiere Pro.  Note how the image in Premiere Pro has a messed up border around the figure?
Has anyone experienced this or know why it is occuring?  I can think of some possible work-arounds that could be tried, but the dynamic link method is nice and fast.  So before I start rendering and saving and reopening files in a work-around attempt, I am wondering first what could be causing this issue.  Thanks for any ideas.

    Hi,
Just to let you know that you've posted in the Audition (audio) forum and may do better posting over in the Premier Pro forums.
However, as one who works in both video and audio, I'd just comment that your choice of export format is affected big time by what you want to do with your edit.  Things like Youtube, DVD, Bluray, etc. all have their own formats that you have to adhere to.  Within those formats you often have choices you can make to balance bandwidth vs. quality but these only come into play once you've decided where your project has to end up.

  • (Mac) Postscript printing issue - Photoshop CS5.1

We're having an issue printing certain files to any of our office printers via Photoshop.  Most of our office computers are Macs running OS X 10.6.8 or 10.7.4, and all are running CS5.5 Design Std.
What we're noticing is that, on particular .tiff, .jpeg, and .psd files, when we issue a print command within Photoshop, the job sends to the printer successfully, but then each printer reports a Postscript error.  It reads "PS limitcheck error, offending command: 'yyyyyyyyyyyyyyy'", more or less.
Our initial thought was that there was something wrong with the particular file: a damaged font, too many path entries, etc.  But, our immediate workaround was to try printing the same file in Illustrator, which we were able to do successfully right off the bat.  We were also able to print the file via Preview and by exporting it to a PDF and printing via Acrobat.
We've reproduced the problem on all of our printers, and even on a few of the printers after installing different (older) driver versions on the test workstation.  This leads us to believe that the issue lies somewhere in Photoshop 5.1's coding.
I read in a previous post (from 2009) that including labels in the print (chosen from the print dialogue) can cause this type of error, but we are not using print labels here, so that can't be the issue in our case.
Any thoughts on this?  Or are we stuck with the mentioned workaround and/or giving Adobe more money for CS 6?  (and exactly how many updates did we get for CS5??)

Well I suppose I could post it there, but I wouldn't be hoping for any sort of response: there's not exactly much to read into.  We've found that it's typically better to try and find a workaround for CS errors (in this case, copy/paste the contents of the open file into a new ai file, re-save with new filename) than to try to guess at the cause from these kinds of error messages, which are nearly useless.
That said, this one is a nagging annoyance for our designers, and given that we get the same behavior across multiple systems/OSs/printers, and that the error only occurs when printing from photoshop cs 5.1 (not when printing from illustrator, or Preview), the root cause MUST have something to do with photoshop.  Perhaps there is just something about the particular files and their interaction with photoshop, but whatever the real reason, photoshop is playing a part.
And so, here we are.  Perhaps there are other troubleshooting measures I've missed?  Maybe there's some limitation with printing in Photoshop I'm not aware of?  Maybe there's a setting somewhere in the print dialogue that we should enable/disable for further troubleshooting?  I'm basically looking for other shot-in-the-dark types of things to try at this point; I harbor no illusions that there's anyone out there who knows what's happening or has seen this before.
With that in mind, fire away!  I'm willing to try nearly anything.

  • What exactly is the issue with CS5 and the retina display?

Just picked up a late 2013 MBP with retina display and have PS CS5 running on it.
What is the exact issue that I should be having when it comes to running CS5 on these machines ?  Is it just that the UI looks fuzzy?  Other than that it seems to run fine and my photos look fine also.

    What issue?"
That is what I am asking...Like I said, I am able to open CS5 on my new retina mbp and edit image files with no issue..the only thing that I notice that seems off is the text of the UI seems "fuzzy"....
So, what I am asking is what exactly is the problem supposed to be that I should be seeing?

  • Magenta Printing Issues in CS5 and LR3

    Hi,
I have seen this issue mentioned in various forms over the last year or so but I have yet to see a real solution to the problem I am now experiencing.
    History:
I was running a Vista 64b OS and using LR 2.X and Epson's r2880 printer.  I was able to print using LR 2.X without any issues both in B&W and color using the various papers, using iccs provided by various vendors (Moab for example)  I never had the Magenta printing issues.
    Fast Forward:
I recently installed LR3 and CS5 under the same OS (Vista 64b) and when I print in color it is obviously Magenta heavy.   I am following the same practices as before of having LR3 manage the color (using one of the vendor iccs) and setting "No Color Managment" in the printer driver UI.  Doing this gives me terrible crazy Magenta prints.  I have un-installed and re-installed the Epson Printer driver numerous times with no positive effect.  The causal effect was installing CS5 and LR3. These were the only changes made.
I also did try and print in CS5 with the same Magenta results.  I posted in this thread along with the LR board also as I feel the LR3 and CS5 issue is related to some common theme.
I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem and had found a solution other than switching over to a Mac.
This is very frustrating and depressing.
    Thanks,
    David.

Thanks for the great Feed back.  I was able to fix the printing problem by doing several things:
    1) Re-install the printer drivers
    2) Runnning the printer through nozzle checks and cleaning cycles. Had to peform the cleaning cycle 3 times.
    3) Replacing the yellow ink cartridge.  The ink level was showing about 15% remaining but in fact I was out of yellow ink. I had read that the ink levels were not always accurate.
So for me this issue has been solved.  Thanks for the help.

  • XML import issues in CS5.5, but not CS5...

    Hi guys,
I'm currently using the Production Premium CS5.5, and have been trying to import an XML from Final Cut Pro 7 into Premiere.  The issue is that none of my audio tracks appear in the sequence, nor any video tracks aside from my 2 main tracks.
This isn't a problem in the previous version (CS5), as I can import the same XML and all my audio tracks, etc. show up in the sequence.
Since I just started playing with CS5.5, I'm wondering if there's something I don't have set up properly?  Is there a conflict w/ having CS5 and 5.5 installed?  Has anyone else encountered a similar issue?
Thanks for the response, if you got it.  I really really appreciate it.

So, I started figuring out what the issue is, but not how to fix it:
I had some overlay graphics (Quicktimes w/ Alphas) that were placed over my main video track, which I suppose Premiere doesn't like.
The thing I can't figure out, is why I could still bring in the rest of the project with CS5, but not CS5.5.....

I searched on the forums for a bit and found suggestions that I should uninstall Flash Player and AIR, so I did that to no effect.  Then I ran across this article http://forums.adobe.com/message/4393571.  So I took the suggestions and renamed the suggested items (I found them on Windows).  The installer didn't even initialize after that, so I reversed the changes I made and restarted.  Now the installer still won't initialize.  Any ideas?

I solved my problem!  Since the computer was new and there were a few things wrong with it, I decided to reinstall Windows.  After the reinstall, the two CS5.5 installs went flawlessly.  I believe the issues I encountered above were due to some edits to the registry I made in order to make the default program install location on my HDD instead of my SSD.  That combined with the suggestions I took from the internet completely messed up my installation.
I did try the CS Cleaner Tool before posting, but it didn't help.  But thanks for the prompt response!

  • CS 6 layer opacity issue

In the middle of working on a file my layer opacity started acting weird. If I reduce the opacity to 90% it looks like I have dropped it by 60%. This happened on the file i was working on but when I opened a new file and filled a box with solid black (100%) and then duplicated the layer and reduced that one to 90% it looked fine. SO I thought I had a memory issue. I quit PS then I restarted. Now no matter what file I open or create, my opacity is not proportional to the slider. 90% looks like 60% of any layer I make. Now, when I save the file and place it in an InDesign document, the preview looks as it should. What gives? There are no adjustment layers or layer masks apllied to the layers.
You can see the large discrepency in shade from 100% black to 90% black.
Please help. Its driving me nuts!

    Charles,
Thanks for your reply but I discovered the problem. Gamut warning! I inadvertently must have hit shift-command-Y and unchecked the Gamut Warning under the View menu.
Here is the opacity in RGB mode with the gamut warning UNCHECKED:
And with the gamut warning CHECKED:
I knew it was just me hitting some random setting that screwed it up. User error as usual. Not sure why the gamut warning needs a keyboard shortcut, but whatever.

  • Opacity Issue

For some reason I cant resolve this issue.
I'm versioning a 10 min video with new text from a superless master.
Each title requires motion, one layer is text that has opacity set at 20% and the other layers are 100%. If I mix the two in motion the opacity shows perfectly but I'd rather just layer the motion - text over the video in final cut.
So, when I do that the layer that has opacity set at 20% isn't showing properly, it is transparent but is more grey ( alpha issue?)
I'm importing the motion file into fcp as motion not a qt file.
If you want to look at the motion file you can download the project here...
    http://download.yousendit.com/AA343A101144D6EB
    thoughts???

Glows are hard to get to look right if you bring them from Motion into FCP and try to composite them normally, since they look a lot better when composited with add blend mode instead of just using the alpha channel. One way you could do it is to separate the glow element and the text into their own Motion files, and composite the glow file in FCP using the "Add" composite mode.
