Opatch and compatible !!

Hi, all.
I applied a patch set from 10.2.0.1.0. to 10.2.0.2.0.
After applying the patch set, the database version has changed to
10.2.0.2.0.
However, init parameter of "compatible" is still 10.2.0.1.0.
Do I need to change it to 10.2.0.2.0 explicitly??
The following is the output of "opatch lsinventory".
OPatch version : 10.2.0.2.0
OUI version : 10.2.0.2.0
Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.1.0
Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Patch Set 1 10.2.0.2.0
The following is from alert log.
Starting up ORACLE RDBMS Version: 10.2.0.2.0.
System parameters with non-default values:
- compatible = 10.2.0.1.0
As you see, the parameter, compatible, is still 10.2.0.1.0.
Thanks and Regards.

Hi,
"However, init parameter of "compatible" is still 10.2.0.1.0.

The answer is yes, if you need Oracle works with that compatibility level.
Compatible parameter is not bound by the binary version installed.
It just tells Oracle how to works in certain situations.

How can I tell if my Xeon 2.66 is early 2008 and compatible?

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, click on More Info, and check the model identifier against the following, which are the earliest Macs of each type that can run Mountain Lion and Mavericks:
    iMac7,1
    MacBook5,1
    MacBookPro3,1
    MacBookAir2,1
    Macmini3,1
    MacPro3,1
    Xserve3,1
If your computer's incapable of running Mountain Lion, it can run Lion 10.7, which is available by clicking here. Neither Mavericks nor Lion support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004.

    Holvi,
You will probably be able to find the iWork'09 DVD at Amazon or similar online vendor. Install from the DVD and immediately run Software Update to get to the latest version.
The Terms of Use here dictate that we test our suggestions before posting, but obviously I'm not going to try this myself, so there's an element of risk, but it seems your only option. It has worked for users in the past, but you never know how OS upgrades can change such things. If you go this route, please post back with your results.
    Good luck,

  • Need help getting opatch and java working on 10g

I am trying to configure opatch on a Solaris 2.9 Unix server with Oracle 10g
We don't have java installed. How can I get the required java installed and opatch and OUI (Oracle Universal Installer) working?
    Thanks
    Ben P

u can download java from Sun's site and install it in any location. Use -jdk or -jre option and specify the path to java, while invoking opatch, then it works fine.

    Another try:
    D:\JDeveloper-11.1.2.1\Patches\13716771>opatch version

    OPatch succeeded.

  • Opatch and PERL5LIB

    Greetings.
The Perl compiler for Opatch conflicts with a Perl compiler in another application. When I comment out the PERL5LIB environment variable on my Windows machine the other application works fine. Will commenting out this line otherwise interfere with Oracle ? IS there a way of getting Opatch to run without using PERL5LIB ?
    Thanks.
    alan

    Alan,
This will depend on what tools you are running everyday on your machine. You don't really have to comment it out. All you have to do is rather add the path to the PERL compiler of "that other application" to PERL5LIB. So it can coexist with that of other tools. You do it the same way as in PATH (i.e separated by semi colon)
One of the lines you will mostly see in PERL5LIB is path for Oracle Agent if you are running OEM, Grid Control etc. If you see only Opatch and you must comment it out - since Opatch is not something you run frequently - you can comment out PERL5LIB from your environment variables, then uncomment it any day you want to use Opatch or simply "set PERL5LIB=" on your command prompt before running Opatch.
There are a few products and tools that make use of PERL5LIB, but commenting it out does not have any effect on somthing like operation of your Oracle database

  • OPATCH and OUI??

what is the difference between applying the patch between OPATCH and OUI(ORACLE UNIVERSAL INSTALLER)
Please guide me as iam a beginner in applying patches
    REGARDS
    Kumaresan

Opatch is used to apply interim patches, for example the Daylight Savings Time patches or the Critical Patch Updates. Oracle Universal Installer is used to apply patchsets, for example the 10.2.0.3 patchset.
Each patch/patchset has documentation that details which method to use.
See the following note on Metalink for more information on Opatch.

  • Difference between database version, release and compatible parameter

Can anyone please explain me the diff between version, release and compatible.?
    Regards,
    Shubha

    hi,
A lot of differences this is my take on them:
    8i -> 9i - Real Application Clusters, PL/SQL enhancements, XMLType enhancements
9i -> 10g - ASM space management, tracing and diagnostics, DML error logging, async commit, more PL/SQL changes, table/column encryption, restore points
10g -> 11g - Probably best to point you to technet on that one.
You can find the links to the various versions here:

Which version do you plan to upgrade ?
You may use SAP tool Upgrade Dependency Analyzer www://service.sap.com/uda

  • Oracle 9i database and compatible OS

I have installed oracle 9i database in windows XP. Which is the compatible OS for installing oracle 9i database and how to initiate http server in the local machine. I could not able to start http server for enabling isqlplus to clients. please tell me the procedures to be adopted.

You can find information regarding enabling the iSQLPLUS in the following Oracle manual.

  • Iphoto and compatible online storage

I want to back up all of my content from iphoto in three ways:  external drive, several flash drives and online.  The first two options are easy and done, but I'm having trouble finding an online solution that will incorpoate "faces" that I've painstakingly updated, can easily be organized, and seamlessly uploads from my Mac.
Flickr seems to keep dropping photos from each download.  Photobucket limits the number of folders available (I would need at least 30 for what I have now - anticipating 2-3 additions per year moving forward).  Picassa was complicated to upload and then has been duplicating all the photos onto my hard drive, thereby eating up the few GBs I have left to operate.   Too bad because I loved Picassa on my PC ages ago.
Any suggestions out there?  I don't mind paying for it - I just mind if it's not a reasonable solution.  I have iphoto '11 (9.4.1) and a MacBook Pro that recently upgraded to OS X so that I could use icloud.

Accepting that I'll lose "faces", are there any other suggestions?  I tried SmugMug but none of the description/notes are carried with the photos.  I know there are loads of sites out there - certainly there's a preference among Mac users, or a list of those that are most compatible with Mac & iphoto, that retain most of the information???  I can keep joining and trying, but I'm up to 10 trials and am getting a little burnt out by the process.
Sadly Larry, I have a hard enough time reminding myself to use the external drive that lives on my desk.  I'm not disciplined enough to remember to update a drive kept in someone else's possession too!  I admire thouse who can do it - it simply isn't going to happen in my household.
