Hi,
Try to take the last version of opatch utility (#2617419) on metalink. As far as I know, the latest version is 1.0.0.0.53.

Opatch auto vs. opatch apply?
In the 11g GI PSU 3 I'm looking at, some Cases require "opatch auto" vs. "opatch (n)apply". At our site I've been told "we don't use opatch auto. Only opatch apply." This has been with 10g. We haven't done much patching with 11g, having only gone to 11g semi-recently.
Are there any good reasons not to use opatch auto? e.g. is it more likely for something to go wrong if we do? Or must be use OCM to use opatch auto? We don't currently use OCM. I would like to know the basic differences between these two opatch switches. And if it would ever be justifiable to prohibit the use of the "auto" patch--and if so, why.

2.3 OPatch auto for GI
The Opatch utility has automated the patch application for the Oracle Grid Infrastructure (GI) home and the Oracle RAC database homes when run with root privileges. .....
(README) --> Oracle Grid Infrastructure Patch Set Update 11.2.0.3.5 (Includes Database PSU 11.2.0.3.5) - 14727347That means you would be using a switch with Opatch auto and it would apply the patch on the GI and Oracle Homes automatically.
--> Case 1: GI Home and the Database Homes that are not shared and ACFS file system is not configured.
As root user, execute the following command on each node of the cluster:
#root@host>opatch psu12013 -ocmrf OPatch/ocm/bin/ocm.rsp
The user is root. OPatch cannot continue if the user is root.
OPatch failed with error code 255I think the command should be

Difference between Opatch apply, and manually applying pathces
Hi All experts,
I have a confusion about applying Oracle software patches. I want to know what is the difference in applying patches using the Oracle "OPatch" utility and manually applying patches (using "setup.exe" or "runInstaller"). Also, why "OPatch" is called the "Oracle interim Patch Installer"? what is meant by Interim patch?, can somebody exaplain to me all this?
Thanks in advance.
Siddiqui. Thanks for all the replies, but I am still not very clear about this. For example I have Oracle database 10g release 10.2.0.1, and I want to upgrade it to release 10.2.0.3. Then, in this case should I use OPatch? or should I run the OUI (setup.exe / runInstaller from Disk1 of the downloaded path)?
Also, how many types of patches are there like bug fixes, enhancements, upgrades, and how they are applied? do they affect only the software? or, do they also affect the data (not data itself, but the internal database data formats, for example)?
Thanks in advance. -
DST, CPU Opatch apply order
Just want to verify I am understanding the README.TXT in the zip file for 5601428.
I am on 10.2.0.2/HP-UX and have not appled any CPU yet. In the same migration I intend to apply both CPU and DST. Does it matter which order I install them?
Thanks In Advance
MNI think first the patch 5601428 should go in and then the CPU.

OPatch will not apply the patch, exiting...
OPatch succeeded. There was a bug. even in readme file was asking for Opatch 1.0.0.0.52 and mine was 1.0.0.0.0.55
tech support had told me that i need to upgrade it at least 1.0.0.0.0.57 ans up.I had a suspect in opatch version from the beginning, but did not expect the version to be incorrect in the patch README file -- which I should NOT do next time :)
no wonder my other instance with version 1.0.0.0.0.57 works fine with this patch.
Thanks everyone. Thanks for sharing the solution. -
How to apply AIA Patch using Opatch
i have an oracle aia update patch...how can i apply this patch using Opatch.......cann any one say me the procedure of doing so....
Quick reply is appreciated....
Regards
GSKTo apply patches on top of AIA 10g you need a Standalone patch.
In my case, i had to apply a patch on top of AIA 2.5 version.
-I had to apply a Stand alone patch. The version used is stand alone opatch 11.1.0.0.0 . this can be downloaded from the oracle support site.
-After applying the stand alone patch, you can apply the aia update patch. .
- opatch apply -oh <AIA_HOME> -jre <SOA_HOME>/jre/1.4.2
AIA_HOME - Complete directory path where AIA_HOME is installed
SOA_HOME - Complete directory path where SOA is installed
Follow the instructions given in the readme and should be able to do it.
Hope this helps -

Trying to install it as root I have another error:
root@selva-2./usr/local/software/oracle/11724916 # opatch apply
Invoking OPatch 11.2.0.1.5
The user is root. OPatch cannot continue if the user is root.
OPatch failed with error code 255
How should I apply this patch? Should I rollback path 12311357 and reapply both together?
Thanks.Thanks. Although it is true my grid user environment doesnt contain /usr/ccs/bin in the PATH variable, opatch seems to know where to find those commands. I have included it in the PATH but the error persists.
On the other hand I have seen lib directory under GI HOME, where libclntsh.so link should be created applying the patch, belongs to root with 755 permissions. IS THIS CORRECT? Then grid user never will be able to create the link reported in the opatch error above :
ln: cannot create libclntsh.so: Permission denied
ar: cannot create shoc.o
Permission denied
So, What is wrong?
Thanks again.
