OPC Server (Matrikon) and LabVIEW2009 (Client)

Hello,
In one of application, I am going to use OPC Server may be from Matrikon etc  and LabVIEW 2009 would be a client.
So could anybody help me to start this with respective to following?
   1) Which software/Modules else required?
   2) How to get Server connection In Application for data exchange ?
   3) Any startup code?
   4) Any tutorial (Other than NI)?
Thanks in Advance With RegardsHemant

Hello
I am to communicate with LabVIEW using the OPC Server's and OPC server´s Matrikon, I have all my varibles in Labview OPC Client, but to run my program my VI. I have an error someone can help me.

  • Shared Variable Engine OPC Server & Matrikon OPC Explorer

    Hello All
    I have a shared variable Engine OPC server running on my IPC. I am querying NI OPC Server through Matrikon OPC Client. My situation is if shared variable engine process is switched forcefully off (NI DSM) or communication between server and client is lost then client is crashing which is quite obvious. But the problem is if Server is Up again then the client is not connecting to server automatically.
    First of all is it  possible, that if server is up again then it will try to send some signals to the priviously connected clients ? If yes then do i have to make changes in shared variable engine properties ? How i can do this ?
    I hope you all will understand my problem, if not please post you doubts. I will try to clear my points.
    Thanks & Regrad´s

    Hi, just now I face a similar problem. When clients restart connection, the variable engine crash, for now the only way founded is restart the program programmatically, but I'm interested in how fix that.

  • Are there any problems with Snow Leopard Server (Xserve) and PPC Clients

    Hi,
    are there any problems identified yet with Snow Leopard Server, installed on a Xserve and PPC Clients running Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard?
    Currently I have a Xserve Intel running Leopard Server and about 12 Mac Minis PPC running Mac OS X Tiger and Mac OS X Leopard. The Xserve serves services like DNS, OpenDirectory, Software Update Server, NetBoot, etc. All users have Home Directories stored on the Xserve.
    Now I want to install Snow Leoaprd Server on the Xserve, but I wonder if there are any problems using the PPC Clients? I have read something like this on a german website.
    Thanks!

    We've actually found that the Server 10.6.3 DVD does an amazingly smooth job of upgrading 10.5.8. We've been upgrading our production servers and nothing has gone wrong yet. Snow Leopard employs an archive and install method of upgrading which results in an install which is very close to a clean install. So it's been very convenient for us because our servers are used as Windows PDCs and it's a pain in the *** to have to re-join all PCs to the domain if we start from scratch.

    Hi,
    are you on itanium or x86? Your log says, "inux_ia32_jrockit_160_14_R27.6.5-32_jdk.zip not found" that means you should have itanium.

  • Snow Leopard Server VPN and Android Client

    Hi
    I have a VPN which works absolutely fine with various (Apple) products. However, I have never managerd to get an Android device to connect to the VPN. Would anyone have any clue as to how to work around this?
    FWIW, the VPN is set up to use L2TP over IPSec with a shared secret. The gateway firewall is set up to allow pass through for VPN protocols and the appropriate ports have been mapped to the server. The system works fine for Macbooks of various flavours, iPod, iPad and I believe it's been tested with a Windows box (may have turned on PPTP for that. Can't remember). All this points to a flaw in the Android VPN client - which seems to be something of a known issue but beyond my understanding.
    With the above in mind, anyone got a sensible work around (other than the daft suggestion that someone will inevitably make wrt buying an iPhone)?
    TIA
    Simon

    Fat Freddie, we're thrilled you got it working on your Nexus 7, would you care to share HOW you got it up and working? What were the server settings.  I'm trying to get it setup on a Nexus 4 running 4.2.1, and it is getting the same LCP timeout in the logs that the poster "l4r5"  was reporting.
    Did you get this and solve it?

  • OPC Server Remote Connection LabVIEW 8

    Hi
    Currently I am trying to access a VI with a Shared Variable from a remote computer using an OPC Client. I haven´t succeed on this becasue I cannot find the OPC Server on the Host Computer.
    Here is what I am using:
    Host Computer:
    Windows XP SP2
    NI Developer Suite November 2005
    LabVIEW 8 with DSC Module.
    Remote Computer: The same as above.
    Here´s what I have done.
    I created a new project with a library that included a Network Published Shared Variable. The VI is quite simple it just generates a number that is written to the Shared Variable. Once the VI was running I opened the Server Explorer on the host computer, browsed My PC and connected to the server Variable.Engine in which I was able to see my shared variable. Then on the Remote Computer I opened the Server Explorer and browsed on my Network Places and when I tried to access the Host Computer I got the following error: "Unable to connect to \\HOST! Make sure that this computer is on the network, has remote administration enabled, and that both computers are running the remote registry service"
    I have tried by using the Matrikon OPC Server Explorer and I got the same results. I read many documents that refer tis problem as a DCOM setting because of the firewall fo XP SP2.
    Here´s a list of the NI documents I reviewed.
    How Can I set up LabVIEW, LabVIEW DSC, and Lookout to work with the windoes XP firewall

    URL: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/5C8A90CD57B279F286256C2C006F1EB4
    I never got the results I expected. Then I tried the Matrikon OPC Simulation Server and the Matrikon OPC Server Explorer(Client) and I Succesfully connected between Matrikon servers and clients.
    My project is based in accesing the LabVIEW OPC server with a generic OPC client but I cannot get the client to connect to the server.
    I will apreciate some advice on this issue.
    Marcos

    Marcos,
    If you are using two instances of LabVIEW 8, I would first take the OPC part out and just try viewing Shared Variables on the remote computer.  This needs to work.  One document to check is the following KB: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/6E37AC5435E44F9F862570D2005FEF25?OpenDocument. I would also make sure the opcenum.exe service is running on both machines.
    Once browsing to Shared Variables works, you can test the OPC aspect of the Shared Variable Engine.  Server Explorer is an older OPC 2 client, but should work in most cases to browse to OPC Servers -- you'll need to make sure the registry settings on the host computer are set up correctly as per the KB you mentioned, and also make sure to connect to the OPC Server, add a group, and add items manually from within Server Explorer, rather than using the Wizard.

  • What is the best way to disable tags in SVE when a OPC server is not available?

    I have a LV2009 DSC app with SVE that reads tags (1100 spread acrross them) from 4 PLC's through NI OPC server.  From time to time the PLC will lose power because that test machine will be powered down.  The NI OPC  loses the OPC link then to that particular machine/PLC and this error is transferred through to the SVE.
    Is there an any/efficient way to stop the reading of tags if/when this happens?  The only way I can think of is to undeploy/re-deploy from the app when it is necessary.
    In the same way is it possible to prevent the SVE acting on this error?
    I also have a longstanding problem with updates of tag values to the frontend of the LV VI.  The update rate into SVE seems OK, but the tag values are slow to update onto the page.  I have reduced the amount of tags on the pages as well as reducing the amount of code on a page.  It becomes better, but I would like to have an update of less than 2 seconds at least to properly display plant status.  I'm running a heartbeat timer from a PLC and in some cases this takes up to 15 seconds to update.
    Any assistance will be appreciated.
    Pierre

    PierreN,
    In order to set the timeout value of a Shared Variable, you may Right-Click, and select 'Show Timeout':
    Implementing Timeouts through your application variables will allow you to gage which variables are, and are not updating. This troubleshooting stepp will allow you to better characterize the source of the slowed update rate. You also may take a closer look at the OPC Server configuration, and the deadnband settings you have implemented on the I/O Clients.
    Snowforest has offered good advice in terms of implementing a State-Machine architecture to handle the 'Power Down' system status. Also, if you know the specific error that is propagated, you may choose to implement implicit error handling using the data contained in the Error Cluster.

  • DSEE Server certificate required on client side?

    I have DSEE 6.3 working in my environment but I am not sure it's configured as it should be....
    I am using tls:simple and everything works, the certificate store is setup with
    the CA and LDAP server certificates on both the LDAP servers and clients.
    Questions:
    - I was expecting the LDAP client to only require the CA certificate however that didn't work!?
    - Shouldn't the server present the server certificate and the client would accept it by validating against the CA certificate? Why would it need to have the server certificate as well?
    - If I deploy the LDAP server certificates to the clients will they all need to be replaced/updated when the server certificate expires?
    Additional info:
    My DSEE server is configured to NOT accept certificate based client authentication.
    All my certificates are valid when I check them with certutil -V

    Hi,
    I ended up getting a certificate signed by my internal CA and it worked just as expected.
    I can only assume my CA certificate wasn't actually a CA...
    Checking the output of the commands you suggested clearly shows this - I must have been blind when I ran this last time (or looking at a different cert).
    I guess my question should now be - why was the certificate I created not a valid CA?
    Create CA:
    CA.sh -newca
    Create certdb:
    /usr/sfw/bin/certutil -A -n test-ca -t TC,, -d . -i testca.pem

  • Socket Exception when closing Server Socket Streams if Client closes first

    Hi
    I have 2 processes - a Server socket and a client socket. If I close the Client process first, and then try closing down the Streams on the Server process, I get a SocketException with message "Socket is closed" when I try and close the 2nd Stream. It does not matter on the order of the Stream being closed down, the exception is always thrown when I try and close the second stream. The code snippets are below:
    SERVER =======
    import java.io.InputStream;
    import java.io.OutputStream;
    import java.net.ServerSocket;
    import java.net.Socket;
    public class ServerSocketTest {
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    try {
    ServerSocket ss = new ServerSocket(9999);
    Socket s = ss.accept();
    // Get refs to streams...
    InputStream is = s.getInputStream();
    OutputStream os = s.getOutputStream();
    // sleep to let client shutdown first...
    try {
    Thread.sleep(10000);
    } catch (InterruptedException e) {
    System.err.println(e);
    System.err.println("B4 inClose: isBound=" + s.isBound());
    System.err.println("B4 inClose: isClosed=" + s.isClosed());
    System.err.println("B4 inClose: isConnected=" + s.isConnected());
    System.err.println("B4 inClose: isInputShutdown=" + s.isInputShutdown());
    System.err.println("B4 inClose: isOutputShutdown=" + s.isOutputShutdown());
    s.getInputStream().close();
    System.err.println("After inClose: isBound=" + s.isBound());
    System.err.println("After inClose: isClosed=" + s.isClosed());
    System.err.println("After inClose: isConnected=" + s.isConnected());
    System.err.println("After inClose: isInputShutdown=" + s.isInputShutdown());
    System.err.println("After inClose: isOutputShutdown=" + s.isOutputShutdown());
    s.getOutputStream().close(); // will break here with SocketException!
    System.err.println("After outClose: isBound=" + s.isBound());
    System.err.println("After outClose: isClosed=" + s.isClosed());
    System.err.println("After outClose: isConnected=" + s.isConnected());
    System.err.println("After outClose: isInputShutdown=" + s.isInputShutdown());
    System.err.println("After outClose: isOutputShutdown=" + s.isOutputShutdown());
    s.close();
    } catch (Exception e) {
    System.err.println(e);
    CLIENT ======
    import java.net.Socket;
    public class ClientSocket {
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    try {
    Socket s = new Socket("localhost", 9999);
    try {
    // sleep to leave connection up for a while...
    Thread.sleep(2000);
    } catch (InterruptedException e) {
    System.err.println(e);
    s.close();
    } catch (Exception e) {
    System.err.println(e);
    The debug shows that isClosed() is set to 'true' after the first call to s.getInputStream().close(). The Sun API Socket class getOutputStream() has a call to isClosed() at the start of the method - it then throws the SocketException that I get. Why does the SocketImpl do this before I get a chance to call a.getOutputStream().close()?
    One final thing, the calls to s.isInputShutdown() and s.isOuputShutdown always seem to return false even if the Streams have had their .close() method called.
    Any ideas/help here greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Gaz

    Ok, I know what's going on now - I needed something to do on Friday afternoon anyhow!
    Basically if you call either getOutputStream.close() or getInputStream().close(), the underlying Sun implementation will close the Socket.
    Here's what's happening under the covers in the Sun code:
    s.getInputStream() is called on the Socket class.
    The Socket class holds a reference to the SocketImpl class.
    The SocketImpl class is abstract and forces sublclasses to extend it' s getInputStream() method.
    The PlainSocketImpl extends SocketImpl.
    PlainSocketImpl has a getInputStream() method that returns a SocketInputStream. When the stream is created for the first time, the PlainSocketImpl object is passed into the Constructor.
    The SocketInputStream class has a close() method on it. The snippet of code below shows how the socket is closed:
    <pre>
    * Closes the stream.
    private boolean closing = false;
    public void close() throws IOException {
         // Prevent recursion. See BugId 4484411
         if (closing)
         return;
         closing = true;
         if (socket != null) {
         if (!socket.isClosed())
              socket.close();
         } else
         impl.close();
         closing = false;
    </pre>
    So, it seems that out PlainSocketImpl is getting closed for us, hence the SocketException being thrown in Socket.getOutputStream() when I call it after Socket.getInputStream()/
    I've not had a look at the reason why the calls to s.isInputShutdown() and s.isOuputShutdown always seem to return false even if the Streams have had their .close() method called though - any thoughts appreciated.
    Thanks

    Likely this is an issue related to DCOM configuration. Can you double check tagsrv.exe ("NI Variable Engine" service ) has the correct DCOM configuration talking to the remote OPC Server?

  • How to make SVE a visible OPC server to third party OPC clients?

    I've read SVE works as an OPC sever, but when I try to browse it with a third-party OPC client I get no items.
    Is there any configuration needed? Is DSC needed?

    Hi Keptat
    DCOM shouldn’t be the problem because you are not using the OPC server from an external computer or from other PC user, nevertheless, you can always try to do it.
    I’m attaching some links with information about the DCOM privileges and how to configure de SVE.
    Are you able to see others OPC servers with your clients?

  • Comunication between opc server and a generic labview application

    I'm developing a LabView application that hanldes data aquired with dedicated hardware. The system (PC+appl.+DAC) has to be iterfaced with remote PC that can see only an OPC server. Wich server have i install?
    Does exist a similar application?

    As far as I am aware, LabVIEW Base/FDS/PDS can only act as an OPC client i.e. they can receive information from other OPC servers. If you are reading information from an OPC server into LabVIEW, the easiest method is to use DataSocket as this considerably simplifies the communication process. Examples of using DataSocket within LabVIEW to view OPC data items are provided with LabVIEW.
    In order for LabVIEW to act as an OPC server i.e. LabVIEW acquires the data, and the publishes this data such that other OPC-aware applications can access the data, you will need to use LabVIEW DSC (Datalogging & Supervisory Control).
    LabVIEW DSC will allow you to generate a "tag" and assign this to the data that you acquire/process. This tag can then be seen by all OPC cl
    ients (either local to your computer or across a network).
    An alternative that you might want to consider would be to use DDE - this will all depend on the capabilities of the software you are working with. DDE capability is available in LabVIEW without DSC and will allow you to pass information between a DDE client/server. OPC has its origins with DDE so if this other piece of software that you refer to is a SCADA-type package, you may have some success here.

  • LabVIEW DSC 2011 / OPC Client IO Server / Can I write to the OPC Server using OPC Groups?

    Hi
    I am using LabVIEW DSC module as a OPC client. My Shared Variables are binded to automation system OPC Server via "OPC Client IO Server".
    On the OPC Server side it seems that the every write commands comes like one item at time, not like grouped.
    Now I have tested this with the NI OPC Server as server and KepServer and LabVIEW DSC IO Server as OPC Clients.
    When I use the NI OPC Server : OPC Diagnostics there are different events messages when the update request comes from KepServer or LabVIEW DSC.
    There are log files on attachements for both write events.

    Hello Pentsi,
    I have received confirmation (from the PSE in the US) that DSC doesn't support group writes
    There however work-arounds that might provide a solution:
    - The first solution I had in mind was like this. Update the 50 OPC items as fast as possible.
    Then use a 51st item as synchronization OPC item to check/indicate if new data has arrived/has been set/is available.
    So LabVIEW sets 50 OPC values as fast as possible. The 51st value becomes goes from false to true when the first 50 values are written.
    When this (51st) value is true on the OPC server you can read out the first 50 values (from the non-LabVIEW side). When you've read out these values, then you can set the 51st value back to false (from the non-LabVIEW side).
    In the meanwhile at the LabVIEW side you wait until the 51st value goes back from true to false.
    When it becomes false, then you write again those 50 values and afterwards set the 51st synchronization value from false to true.
    And this keeps on going...
    Note: Keep in mind that you only have to monitor one event at the side of the Automation System OPC Server in this case (the 51st) and based on an event occuring over there you can just do a group read of the 50 others. Also keep in mind that the maximum rate (6500 updates per second) from inside LabVIEW with the DSC Module OPC client I/O server was also mentioned in this document (http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/63C043359F1E12538625726E005BCD0C?OpenDocument).
    Could this be a possible solution for your problem?
    If you're using one of the OPC servers in this list (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/6417#toc19), then you can also use NI OPC Servers to update tags instead, which supports a faster update rate.
