Open 16 bit files, as default
Hello, all.
I'd like to have ACR open files as 16 bit, as a default setting. Where might I change the default setting to this? I didn't see it in the preferences, unless I'm missing something.
Each file has the option, when opened, to open as either an 8 or 16, but when I click on that option, it doesn't show a "set as default" or something similar.
Thanks.
Al
The Workflow Options is where you set the color space and bit depth...there is no way of dictating anything in that dlog as "Default" but the options are sticky so once you select the settings it'll stay until you change them.

Hi,
I recorded some lectures on a program called Sound Studio, and saved them as 96-bit encoded AAC files, and I can't get them to open in iTunes. Can iTunes only play them in 128+ bit format? Is there a way to convert them to 128-bit?
Help!If your file is truly anything more than 8 bits per channel (24 bit), then it will open as a 16 bit per channel file in Photoshop. If your scans are opening as 8 bits per channel, then either you're not choosing the right options in your scanning software or that software isn't really doing what it claims to be doing.
What scanner and software? Can you post a file that you think is supposed to be 16 bit per channel and see if other people have the same problem with your file? -
How do I show bookmarks upon opening a pdf file by default
have created a pdf that has bookmarks. this works fine. I want to have the pdf reader show the bookmarks when the document is opened rather than have user pick bookmarks
Open the document properties and select the intial view tab. The selection for what it to be viewed is on that menu (under the navigation tab selection).

I just cant successfully open some PDF files(preview default) occasionally on the new Macbook Air, left with all blank contents, whereas, there is no problem in other PCs, I have no idea at all, need solutions ASAP, thanks.
I downloaded and installed the lastest Adobe Reader(X) yesterday, but it doesn't help, still got the problem.

I cannot open this PDF file in Acrobat 8 Pro or in Acrobat Reader on Windows 7 64-bit
I have a PDF file that I could open on my Windows XP 32-bit laptop in Acrobat 8 Pro or in Acrobat Reader. I then upgraded to a Windows 7 64-bit laptop. But now in Win7-64, I cannot open this same file using the same apps (Acrobat 8 Pro & Acrobat Reader XI).
When I try to open it in Acrobat 8, it does not load and instead a popup windows appears saying -
Adobe Updater
Some components needed to complete this operation are missing but information about them may be available on the Adobe website. Would you like to search the Adobe website for the missing components?
And I can choose either the OK or Quit buttons. When I click OK, a web browser starts and goes to this website -
http://www.adobe.com/special/adobe_update_manager/?type=Filter&name=FOPN_foweb&version=0.0 .0.0&lang=en_US&os=Windows&osver=6.1.7601&appid=acrobat8pro-en_US&cpu=intel
This webpage says -
Adobe Update Manager
Adobe cannot locate the requested plugin. New plugins will be listed on this page. Currently there are no plugins.
So now I am stuck, no direction to go. I am left without any solution from Adobe for Acrobat on this file.
When I try to open this PDF file in Reader, it does not load and instead a web browser is spawned loading the webpage -
http://plugin.fileopen.com/Default.aspx?bhcp=1
This is the FileOpen Plug-in for Adobe Acrobat/Reader, which prompts to -
Please click OK to download the FileOpen Plug-in Installer for Adobe Acrobat/Reader
I click on OK, download and run the Installer file, accept the terms, and installed the FileOpen Client (x64) B928. Upon completion, it prompts to Finish. But it does not automatically bring Reader up or try to load the file. So I try again to load the PDF file into Reader. But once again, the file does not load and the web browser is spawned loading the same FileOpen Plug-in Installer link. I click OK again, and start the same FileOpen Client process. This time, it recognizes that I have FileOpen Client installed, and the window gives me two choices, Repair or Remove. So since I apparently need this Plug-in, I choose Repair. The process seems to complete the Repair. But when I try to load the file, it still brings me back to the FileOpen Plug-in webpage. So now I am stuck again, and left without any solution from Adobe for Reader on this file.
I tried Adobe support. But apparently Adobe does not support past releases of their products (Acrobat 8), and also does not give free support for the current version of their free products (Reader XI).
Can this be fixed? How is Acrobat 8 not fully Windows 7 compatible? I see discussions on this Adobe Community saying how Acrobat 8 does work on Windows 7 and with 64-bit. It appears that if Acrobat 8 is updated to the latest version, then this should fix AA8-Win7 issues. And I am at the latest AA8 version, 8.3.1.
And how are Acrobat 8 and Reader XI are not compatible? I have always had Acrobat and Reader installed on the same PC, without ever having any issues. And Adobe allows the installation of one after the other. So apparently Adobe allows them both to exist together. If they are incompatible, then why would Adobe allow them to exist together?
Anyway, I did uninstall the FileOpen Plug-in and the Reader XI, then reinstalled the FileOpen Plug-in. So now Reader is not installed and only Acrobat 8 is installed. I then tried to load the PDF file, but I still get the Acrobat 8 error described above. -
Problem opening and saving files, new eps default
I expect that these two issues are related, but in a way that I don't understand.
(1) When I go to open files, raw or jpeg, I now need to enter a value for 'enable' on the open dialog. That never was necessary before.
(2) When I go to save as jpeg, the file type defaults to eps. And even when I change to jpg, I get a dialog about eps options.
I don't understand this at all! I've never used eps, don't even know why I would.
The only way I found to get around this was to convert my files to 16 bit. That certainly shouldn't be necessary.
(I'm using Photoshop CS6 on a Mac running Mountain Lion)(1) When I go to open files, raw or jpeg, I now need to enter a value for 'enable' on the open dialog. That never was necessary before.
Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels/Dialogs visible?
(2) When I go to save as jpeg, the file type defaults to eps.
So you select jpg from the dropdown list and it switches to eps? -
CS6 crashes every time I open a RAW file as 16-bit
Greetings all,
I'm feeling very frustrated and I hope you can help. Every time I open a RAW file in CS6 (at 16-bit depth) it crashes, so I am unable to open RAW files after editing in Camera Raw. The RAW files open OK in Camera Raw and I can edit them, but then opening them from Camera Raw into Photoshop (by clicking on Open Image) causes a crash.
Further background: I also had CS3 (the entire suite concurrently) installed. Thinking that might be a problem, I removed all of CS3 using the Adobe Uninstaller tool to see if that would help. Then I re-installed Photoshop CS6 from scratch and then downloaded and installed all updates.
No help at all. CS6 still crashes every time I open a RAW file if I open it as 16-bit. If I open a .DNG file directly from Photshop (without using Camera Raw), that crashes too. I'm opening them into Photoshop using Adobe RGB (1998), 16-bit, 3456 x 5184 (17.9 MP), 300DPI.
Thinking it might be a memory issue, I checked free RAM using Activity Monitor and I see it has 3.4 GB free with both CS6 and Bridge open, which should be plenty. However I do see by looking in the crash report from the system log (portion included below), that it appears the crash may have resulted from a failed MALLOC (memory allocation).
Here's the kicker: oddly, when I open the file up in Photoshop at 8-bit depth, it works fine. What the heck is going on?
Please help!
Thanks.

I installed the 64 bit version of Photoshop CS 5.1 Extended successfully. It opens fully without issue. However, any time I create a new file or open an existing file, it crashes.
I figured this would have something to do with my graphics card, but it still does the same thing after updating the drivers & nVidia software. Seems like my whole trial will end up expiring before I ever even get to use it!! Please help!!
System details:
Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit
Service Pack 1
AMD Athlon II X2 215 Processor 2.7 GHz

Change Default for Open New Template File In Adobe Illustrator
How can I change the default folder when trying to "Open From Template".
When I use the open from template it defaults to the template folder in the program folders.
I want to change the default folder to a different location.
Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.2Here's how to have your templates available in the "File New From Template" in Adobe Illustrator for Windows.
What you need to have
Administrator access to your machine.
What you need to know
The default directory for Adobe Illustrator templates is here (for CS5.1)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS5.1\Cool Extras\en_US\Templates
The default Windows security doesn't allow shortcuts to be created directly under that directory.
You can, however, create the shortcut indirectly!
What you need to do
In Summary
Create one (or multiple) folder shortcut(s) in the default Illustrator template directory.
In Detail
Open Illustrator
Select File -> New From Template
Drop down the "Look in" drop-down, note the directory:C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS5.1\Cool Extras\en_US\Templates
Open a Windows Explorer, and navigate to that directory
Open another Windows Explorer, and navigate to the directory where you keep your templates.
Right-click-drag your folder from the second Explorer (your directory) to the first Explorer (default templates) and drop.
Select "Create shortcut" from the right-click popup menu that appears when you "drop" (release the mouse button).
Windows will display a message "Shortcut cannot be created here, do you want to create it on the desktop".
Select Yes.
Move the directory shortcut to the Illustrator to the first Explorer (default templates directory)
Windows will ask for Administrator permissions.
Select Yes.
You can right-click on the template shortcut and rename it without the " - Shortcut" suffix; you'll have to grant Administrator permissions for that as well.
After completing these steps, your template shortcut will appear properly and you can select it. Happy designing! -
I want to open a domain.site2 file outside the default folder (User/Library/Application Support/iWeb) with iWeb11, but iWeb only opens the domain file in the default folder. If I delete the default domain file, iWeb wants to create a new site. Does anyone have the same problem or know how to fix it?
In Lion the Finder folder is now invisible. To make it permanetely visible enter the following in the Terminal applicaiton window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an applicaiton.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
tell application "iWeb" to activate

Changing default open with for file type for all users
hello
can I change the default app to open a specific file type for all users and not juist for my user?
i am admin for my mac mini.
tnx
gilWhat applications are offered for open with depends on the application itself informing the system it can open certain files, plus your own custom selections for opening files. Evidently the alternate app you want to use does not claim to be able to open the files you are assigning it. If you have a plist editor and know how to use it you could edit the info.plist file inside the application itself to add the file type you want to the application's declaration of file types it will open. Then restart so the system will read that declaration. I think it would be far easier to simply launch the application and then drop a file you want it to open onto its icon in the Dock.

WILL Adobe Camera Raw 7.4 or Later version 8.7.1 work with Adobe Photoshop CS5.5 extended version 12.1 x 64 bit with a Mac OSX
10.7.5 lion. I am having trouble opening RAF raw files on my newly acquired Fuji X100S camera. Many thanksWith that version of Photoshop, the most recent version of Camera Raw you can use is 6.7. If updating your Photoshop or subscribing to the creative cloud is not an option then you could use the free DNG converter provided by Adobe. The latest version of the DNG converter is 8.7.1. I am not familiar with Mac operating systems, so I'm not certain if your OS is compatible with the latest version. You can download it and try.

If Reader ISN'T in the list of prpgrams to open with, click "Browse"
In the "Browse window" go to C/Program files [or Program Files (x86)]/Adobe/Reader 11/Reader
Select "AcroRd32.exe" and click "Open"
Make sure "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is checked and click "OK". -
I think the "Wordpad Application (default) got entered some time ago while trying to open a DOCX file. I now have a compatibility pack downloaded for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Formats for my Office 2003 and I think I could open a DOCX file now but can't get this Wordpad application removed and changed to another application to open it, which I think would probably be Word or if someone has another suggestion.
I can't get "Use Microsoft Word (default)" to appear as an Action option. Only Windows WordPad application, Media Center, Internet Explorer, iTunes, Media Player Classic, Nero, Windows Photo, Picasa, Windows Calendar and wWindow Media Player appear as choices. I don't know how to add Microsoft Word as a choice. Maybe the second part of the instructions in your reply "Adding download actions" would solve this but I don't understand the instruction starting with #1. I don't know how to go about doing what it says to do.
I don't think it makes any difference, but I do have Office XP instead of 03 as I stated in my first question. -
When i try to open a .swf file, it goes to adobe device central as default
when i try to open a .swf file, it goes to adobe device central as default. i can't seem to open it in adobe flash????
You likely need to change the default application(s) assigned for opening files to point to the new ones. HOw you do that depends on which operating system you have. If you search Google you should be able to find out how to change the default programs for different files.
