Open a cs3 file in cs4: terribly incompatible and random crashes!

hello dear adobe team,
are you really serious? i mean firewoks was already buggy
when macromedia owned it. cs3 made it buggier than ever but cs4
shots a bullet in its head. we work here in a professional workflow
and apps have to work without issues or the work can't be done in
time. but firewoks is just plain and simply unusuable. in your
responsability to the professionals and clients you shouldn't have
realesed this version.
in addition the compatibility between cs3 and cs4 files is
horrible. font is not properly updated and objects have random
shifted positions. which means hours of work when you have
documents with 40+ frames.
no thanks adobe. this is just not professional.

I hope I can uninstall CS4 and go back to the unstable but
usable CS3. I can't believe how bad this version is.
Is it just me or are the large software companies getting too
bloated to do a good job on any one thing? I've worked in the
software industry as a designer for over 20 years and some things
just seem to be getting worse with each version. Is this an attempt
to get everyone to move to Photoshop?

  • Opening InDesign CS3 documents in CS4

I am hoping someone from Adobe can help me with this question. Here is the scenario:
I work on the support team in a prepress environment where we get hundreds of client supplied InDesign files weekly. Some clients supply their files in InDesign CS3 and some supply the files in InDesign CS4. We have both applications.
From our experience, we have found that if we open a InDesign CS3 document using InDesign CS4, there is a potential for items to disappear in the document. I don't know what changed from 3 to 4 to cause this problem. This has happened to us more than one time and we have experienced money losses due to on press errors.
One would say, as we have, if the document is supplied in InDesign CS3, work on it in InDesign CS3. Easy enough, right?
Well, not really. If you have CS3 and CS4 both installed on your mac at the same time, simply double-clicking on the file will default to CS4 (since it is newer).
We have told our operators that they need to identify what version the file was created in; which is not the easiest thing either.
If you "get info" on the file, you do not get accurate information. It may say "CS4", even if it is "CS3", I think this is because your system is reading what the newest application that you have install is.
I have found that by dragging the file over the CS3 icon in the doc, it will attempt to open the file in CS3 and if it truly is a CS4 document, you will get plugin errors and the file won't open. This works, but my 38 mac operators are so used to just double-clicking a file to open it, they sometimes forget to do it my way, and thats when we get errors.
Is there a plugin available that would prompt you, when double -clicking on a file as to what version it is, or what version InDesign that you would like to open the file in?
What did Adobe change in InDesign CS4 that would cause items to disappear or change when working on CS3 documents in CS4?
    Thank you in advance.

First, this is a user forum, not an official Adobe support site, so you aren't talking to Adobe employees for the most part.
Second, though it is subtle, there is a visible difference between the icons for file created in CS3 and CS4, but you do need to look.
There is (or perhaps it's now "was") a known issue with master items disappearing when placing one ID file into another in CS4. Be sure your copies are updated to the latest patch. Another reason to avoid opening CS3 files in CS4 is potential differences in text flow due to text engine differences which will affect how lines break.
If you want to train your people in a hurry, tell them the next time you have to re-run a job because they opened it in the wrong version you'll deduct the cost from their pay.

  • Open Flash CS5 file in CS4

    Hey all,
I think I know the answer to this, but ... Is there any way I can open a CS5 file in CS4? A designer I'm working with created some files using her CS5. She's on vacation for 2 weeks (so I can't have her edit or resend the files as CS4) and I just got an email that the client needs a couple tweeks and all I have is CS4. Is there any way (or any program) that can backwards convert a CS5 file?
    Thx.

If you had access to CS5 you could save as CS5 or save as CS4 (but not CS3 or below).  But opening a CS5 Flash file in Flash CS4 produces a "unexpected file type" error.

  • Can you open a cs3 document to cs4?

hi my school has cs4 and due to limited time i decided to work at home on Adobe flash profesional cs3. I was wondering if i could open a cs3 document to cs4.

Yes, a CS3 file can be opened, edited, and saved as a CS3 file using CS4.  But not the other way around.

  • Can't open canon raw files in cs4

I recently had to rebuild my pc after a problem that stopped a few of my programs working (I'd installed xampp so I could use wordpress on the pc but it stopped cs4, firefox, video studio and a bunch of other stuff working - removal and reinstalling did no use, I had to build a new disc).
I reinstalled cs4 and got all the updates but now I find I can't open can raw files with cs4 or bridge. I tried replacing the Camera Raw.8bi file with the latest file from adobe as per their web instructions but it still doesn't work. So I tried the adobe dng convertor (version 8.3) and ran the files through that, still no luck, I can't open the files.
I could open them wwith canons own software and save as a tiff, but then I'm losing a lot of information.
I'm still running vista home premium - no I can't upgrade to windows 8.1 and use the latest photoshop and lightroom software because 8.1 doesn't work with my nikon scanner or my epson large format printer. It doesn't like a few other items I have either.
I remember I had to download a few files a couple of years ago when I first bought the pc (a whole 3 years ago) as I was having trouble with photoshop and raw files then but I can't remember the name of the file or where I got it from.
Anyone able to help? much appreciated if you can.

    Hi John,
Adobe told me to replace the relevant file, which I did. The trouble is that went I do this then 'camera raw' disappears from the 'help / plugins' list and there doesn't seem to be any way of getting back other than uninstalling and reinstalling cs4, and once I do this it overwrites the files again...
I can't remember having this trouble when I first installed it a couple of years ago but I do seem to remember having to replace a file somewhere but that may have been on an earlier version.
    I have an old EOS 5d mk1 & a 7d mk1, so it's not as though the camera is unknown to cs4.

    Doug

  • Opening InDesign CS3 files in InDesign CS2

I know that I can open a CS2 file in CS3 but is there any way to go backwards and open a CS3 file in CS2. Is there any certain file type that I can save as to make this work and have the file still editable or am I out of luck?

And my experience with CS3 to CS2 via INX exports, all graphics inherite a black border. Even graphic elements pasted from Illustrator will gain the nasty effect, pictures box that use to be without stroke and fill will gain the feature.
A lot of cleanning, unless the export quirk was solved since
But beside that the type seems unaltered

  • Opening Indesign CS3 files in Indesign 2.0

Can any one assist in opening Indesign CS3 files in Indesign 2.0 please.
    Many Thanks.

That is not possible. InDesign 2.0 is four versions ago. You can use InDesign Interchange format to get back to CS2 (and if you have CS2, you can use it again to get back to CS, but that's as far as it goes).

  • Paragraph style issue when opening imdl (CS5) file in CS4

Sending a CS5 file to a printer using CS4.  When they open the imdl file in CS4, it changes the paragraph style in the pull quotes. The initial character, whether a letter or a quote, appears tiny.  It looks like a paragraph style issue.  The 'quote' paragraph style in CS4 has a drop cap set on it.
Has anyone else had this problem or have a suggested fix? Certainly, we can check our files in CS4 before sending each time, but what a pain!

IDML is meant as an interchange format, and is far from "the same file but in another version".
If your printer wants a CS4 file, send them a CS4 file. Better yet, ask them why you have to send them native files anyway and what's their problem with a PDF?

  • Can't open flash/fla files (with CS4) - might be version issue

    Hi,
I am trying to edit a website for a friend (built with Flash and XML) and i can't seem to get into any of the .Fla files.
I don't know if it is my version of Flash (CS4) or the files and not sure how i could test it. Could also just be a CS5 file hence i can't open it.
Any help or suggestions would be great. Please help i don't know what to do, haha.
Here is an upload of one of the files i am talking about
    http://www.2shared.com/file/kb2NKm0i/book-verification.html
I wasn't sure which hosts were allowed so if i messed up please let me know.
    Thanks
    Asher

    Hi Asher,
You  cannot open a file which is saved in future version such as CS5  version  in Flash CS4 .This is as designed .
If you need to open a CS5 file in CS4 , You need to save the file as CS4 file  and then open in Flash CS4 .
    Thanks

  • Opening CS3 file in CS4 - fonts wrong!

I have an FLA created in CS3 (Mac). It includes a couple of
fonts that were made into symbols. I'm both using those symbols to
set the font for dynamic text boxes on stage in various symbols (by
selecting the font-name-with-asterisk from the font menu), and in
    Actionscript to create text.
When I open the file in CS4, wherever I have used the menu
option (selecting the font with asterisk in its name), when I
select the box the font menu is showing a DIFFERENT font. And when
I publish none of that text shows up!
The font names with asterisks are still in the font list, but
now they're in a separate section separated by a line from the
    regular font list.
I'm not sure what to do - am I stuck using CS3 for the life
of this file? I'm not even sure how many text fields are in this
document, scattered among a number of symbols. If it was just a few
I could probably just manually re-select the font for each. I mean,
I assume I could do that...?
Is there a global find/replace option to fix this? Is this a
    known bug?
    - Bob

I'm sorry to say this, but you're stuck with CS3. This also
happened to me and I couldn't solve it by now.

  • File will open in CS3 but not CS4?

I recieved a tif, 161.806"x138.889", cmyk at 72dpi. When I try to open the file in CS4 I get "end of file error".
I have to go back to CS3 and open it, save as psd then it will open in CS4. Any idea why?
    thanks

There are some files written by CS3 with bad metadata that CS4 could not read.
Or it could be written or modified by a third party program, and CS3 is ignoring the corrupted part.
I fixed a few cases like that in Photoshop CS5.

  • Opening a CS3 site in CS4?

Forgive me if this is a ridiculously stupid question, but I've looked at all the documentation and I can't find an answer.
I upgraded to CS4 Design Premium Suite from CS3 yesterday. This morning I went to work on my website and it does not automatically open when I start up CS4. I did not export the site settings from CS3 before I upgraded because--quite honestly--I didn't remember that I had to do that. I have a backup drive, but it has already backed up CS4 and erased CS3 from itself. I can't get the site settings there. Is there a way to open my CS3-built website in CS4 without the site settings, or should I just download everything from the remote server and go from there?

Hi there, well If your site is saved to your Desktop, you would go into Manage Site, then create a new site and you can lach onto it from there.  It will then open in your Dreamweaver file pallett.

  • Opening large cs3 project in cs4

i am attempting to open cs3 project in cs4. i have opened and imported. with both i get an error message.
    error.... audioRender/AudioRenderContentConstructor.opp-110
i cannot find this one on the net.
can anyone explain? any hints on how to import?
    carl

I have no idea what sort of problem the error message refers to. It implies something funky with the audio content in the CS3 project
The single time I imported a half finished CS3 project into CS4:
    I opened a new project in CS4
Right click in the project window> import> select the CS3 project file
CS3 project file appears in the Project window
I double clicked it and it opened right up. Finished the edit in CS4 & output to delivery format with Export> Media> to AME
Audio in this project was standard 48k stereo tracks.

  • Cs3 file to cs4 - wont compile correctly

I'm currently in the process of an over-haul on my DeskTube
application. I opened the file in cs4 earlier, and attempted to
publish, well, it published but nothing works. Its almost as though
its not compiling the document class. Even a simple
trace('hello!'); at the top of the constructor doesn't display.
Anyone else having these problems??? Steps I should be taking??
    Thanks.

Ok, huge thanks to Nivesh Rajbhandari for helping me figure
this out. It turns out, the ComponentShim wasn't the correct one,
and was causing the compiler problem described above. It was a CS3
ComponentShim that wasn't compiling correctly in CS4. Is this
happening for everyone? I couldn't say, and would assume no since I
haven't come across the same issue other than a post on another
forum. So, all I had to do was create a new file, drag a component
onto the stage, and copy the ComponentShim from the "Component
Assets"-->"_private" into my older file, select "Replace" and it
    compiled like a champ.
    Thanks again!
