Open a new window when branching to another page in the application

I have an existing Apex 4.2 application that uses buttons to direct users to other pages in the application
The users want to be able to open a second ( or possibly) 3rd window or maybe a second tab
Is there a way to code his?

actually I spoke to soon
the javascript example works
I have a button
under "ACTION WHEN BUTTON CLICKED"  I select 'redirect to url'
then enter this: javascript: window.open('f?p=112:17:&SESSION.');
and when I click on the button VOILA the page opens in a new window
the problem is that the old page; the one that I was on, disappears. It becomes a blank page with " [object] '  displayed in the upper left hand corner,  nothing else on the page

  • Can I set Safari to open a new window when I click on it in the dock?

    is there a way to set my safari to open a new window when i click on it in the dock i surf multiple websites at once and i dont like how i have to right clik and scroll up to pick open a new window. can i set it to just open a new window instead of opening the page that already opened

    yeah, instead of using multiple windows, you can use multiple tabs inside one window. That way, you can browse multiple websites at once without having to flick back and forth between multiple windows.
    To open tabs of the websites you want to browse, just right-hand click on whatever website you want to visit (For example a site from your bookmarks or a site from a Google search result) and select 'open link in tab'.

  • Automatically open a new window when entering a specific page

    Hi
    I have a request I cant seem to solve:
    1) On screen A the users presses a button and a collection is parsed on
    2) Screen B retrieves the collection, and passes control to a procedure producing lots of htp.p output (sor far so good, works like a dream)
    The above is solved using processes in both 1) (after submit) and 2) before regions
    3) The end users wants screen C to occur in another window automatically (it's various backgriund stuff, they need to see as well as screen B). So its not good enough to just have another panel with the data.
    How can I achieve 3) without adding a button to screen B It shuld popup automatically?
    regards
    Mette

    Hello Mette,
    Try this:
    1) Create a new page C. Be sure that the Page Template is set to Popup.
    2) Add this javascript to the HTML Header in page B (replacing the page # in url with the page # for page C and adjusting width and height to your liking):
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    function showPopup() {
       var url;
       url = 'f?p=&APP_ID.:3:&SESSION.::&DEBUG.::';
       w = open(url, "myPopup", "scrollbars=1,resizable=1,width=800,height=600");
       if (w.opener == null)
          w.opener = self;
       w.focus();
    //-->
    </script>3) Add this to the HTML Body Attribute for page B:
    onload="javascript:showPopup();"This will pop up page C after page B has loaded.
    Hope this helps,
    John

  • When I open a new window, it doesn't attach itself to the bottom toolbar? I'm using XP Pro and Firefox 6.0.2.

    It's explained pretty well in my initial question. Not sure what else you would need in the way of details.
    I will say it's been going on for a month or so, and it happens every time I start Firefox, and every time I open a new window.

    Thank you for taking the time to leave an answer for me, Poochie1. I really appreciate your attempt at helping me.
    Unfortunately, as smart as I thought I was when I asked the question, I apparently wasn't that smart, because I didn't explain my problem so you'd know what the heck I was talking about.
    I think it's because I'm probably not using the correct terminology. I'll try again.
    When I open a new window, it just kind of floats on the screen. Before this new update, I could open a window and it was lined up with the start taskbar located at the bottom of the screen. Sometimes the new window will cover up the taskbar partially, and sometimes completely. I have to move it up and align it with the taskbar. Then, when I open another new window, I have to line that one up with the window underneath it.
    I hope that description is better than my first one, and I hope you can make some sense out of it, Poochi (and anyone else who happens by here).
    Again, thank you for your help.

  • When I am NOT private browsing Firefox will not allow me to delete or change the website address in the location bar. My only remedy is to open a new window and search in google then click the link to that site through google. How can I resolve this?

    Question
    When I am NOT private browsing Firefox will not allow me to delete or change the website address in the location bar. My only remedy is to open a new window and search in google then click the link to that site through google. When I swap to private browsing firefox allows me to anter the website address directly into the location bar - but this is a slow [prcess to swap back and forth - also by dint of using private browsing I loose my website information.

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Is it possible to keep Firefox open after all windows have closed (and to additionally open a new window when starting another Firefox process)?

    Yes, yes, I know, it's not good to keep applications open when they aren't designed to be. I'm sure Firefox has some memory leaks and this is doing more harm than good, but...
    My computer isn't the greatest out there, and to increase the usability of my Firefox browser it would be nice to keep the firefox.exe process open, even after closing all windows. I know Firefox doesn't totally close if there is at least one Firefox-related window open, but having to open X popup window seems a bit extreme to get this effect.
    Additionally, to allow another window to be opened, it would be cool for the "OH NO FIREFOX IS STILL OPEN" prompts to be replaced with just attempting to open a new window, if this feature is enabled.
    So, if it exists already, is there a config variable for it, and if it doesn't exist, is it possible to perform somehow? I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty if it comes to it; I'd really like to get this happening.
    I'm running Windows 7 Home, if it matters. (I'd rather be running another OS, but this is neither the time nor place...)

  • How do I get firefox to open a new window when i click on a link in a webpage ?

    When I click on a link in a webpage in Firefox, generally it opens the new page in the window i am in (though some times it does not). How do I get it to open a new window (or tab) each time I click a link.
    For example, on www.bbc.co.uk if I click on a link, the new page opens in the same window, if I then click another link in the new window, again, it opens in the same window. To get back to the original window, I have to use the back button twice. Surely there is a setting so that all 3 windows can be open on separate tabs or separate windows.
    I have been to the tabs window in options, but doesn't seem to make a difference.

    Open link/bookmark in new tab in same window:
    *Middle-click (press the mouse scroll wheel) the link
    *Ctrl+left click the link
    *right-click the link, choose "Open Link in New Tab"
    Open link/bookmark in new window:
    * Shift+Enter on the link
    * Shift+left click on the link

  • Default to "open in new window" when posting a link

    I always forget to set my links to open in a new window and have to go back and edit my post. I also don't like when I may click a link in a thread which takes me to another thread, and I click that link etc, and then realize I have to hit back 15 times to get to the thread I started on. This is a matter of preference, and I feel the "open link in current window" option should still remain, but I would like to see open in new window as the default.

    That's on purpose. The assumption is that you usually don't want to be interrupted from the current page, or you could have simply followed the link and then pressed back. In FF, at least, holding Shift down does take you to the newly opened tab and there's also an option for configuring it.

  • How do I change firefox to open a new window when I start it several times instead of opening a new tab when I want to go to a different location?

    I want to go to several different websites at the same time. I want to compare the information on each site. I do not want to open a tab, I want a whole new window. How do I change firefox so it will open a new window instead of opening a new tab and then requesting the site I want to go to?

    In Windows XP I am able to right click a link and get an option to open it as a new Firefox window
    *'''tear off tabs'''
    You will probably note tabs can be dragged along the tab toolbar, they also tear off. You can click a tab and drag it off the browser onto the Windows Desktop where it will open as a new window, or drag it on to another open browser window.
    An alternative is to click the tab and drag it down, again it will then open in a new Window.

  • How can you get CMD + L to open a new window, when all windows are closed?

    In Firefox 28 and earlier, you could hit Apple + L (CMD + L) when no FF windows were open, and it would pull up a blank page with the cursor blinking in the address bar.
    After installing FF 29, when you hit CMD + L (with no windows open) it just plays the system alert sound and does nothing.
    I want to be able to hit CMD + TAB to gain control of an idle Firefox, and then be able to hit CMD + L to gain control of a BLANK address bar.
    Every other version of Firefox I've ever used did this, so am I missing something here? Any ideas?
    Note: I realize that you can hit CMD + N to launch a new window and then CMD + L to select the text within the address bar. I'm not looking to re-train my habits within Firefox, but simply want that feature like it was in the previous 28 versions.

    Well, after an entire week without a word from Mozilla, I officially give up.
    I understand that new software will have bugs when it is released. I understand that the bugs are fixed in the order of greatest impact/priority. I also understand that my issue is not a bug, rather a feature that was inexplicably removed.
    A couple of things I cannot understand —
    Why would Mozilla remove '''ANY''' features from their software when they are touting this as the most customizable web browser ever? That is obviously not logical and will be to their detriment in the long run.
    Furthermore, if a person did get on here just to complain about this update, they were immediately met with a canned response from a moderator, which offered a few options to make Firefox '''LOOK''' like the previous version. That speaks volumes about this update and the developers' confidence in it. The person who gets on here with a legitimate problem asking why a feature was removed — they get '''NO''' response from a moderator. Again, this speaks volumes. I am not even asking for an immediate solution to this problem, just the acknowledgement that there is a problem. On top of that, especially in the development of software, the old adage particularly rings its truest — ''If it ain't broke, don't fix it.''
    Lastly, I think we can all agree that Firefox 29 is a blatant ripoff of Google Chrome. If I wanted Google Chrome, that is exactly what I would have downloaded. That pains me not only as a devout Firefox user for nearly 10 years, but especially as I have donated over $200 to the Mozilla Foundation in that time. In other words, I have financially supported the development of a software that has become absolutely indifferent to its users' needs, and moreover, they have now resorted to copying off of their neighbor.
    I have since rolled back versions — all the way to Netscape Navigator 9 — which seems to have just about as much functionality as the bungled mess that is Firefox 29.
    I genuinely appreciate all of the time and effort that goes in to creating open-source software, and I financially support the projects that I feel adhere to the open-source philosophy. That said, Mozilla.org seems to be straying away from this philosophy, to the point where, for me, it is simply time for a change.
    Thanks for the memories, Firefox!

  • How do I create a hyperlink that will open a new window, when saving a frame file as a pdf?

    I have created a hyper link in Frame using the message URL command in the marker window. I have added the target="_blank"  command after the http url within the marker. But when I then save the frame doc as a pdf and open that pdf from within a browser, when I click on the link in that pdf, it goes to the new link but it does not open in a new window or tab.
    What am I doing wrong?
    I should mention that I am using Frame 10.

    Best solution that I can find to tell you is to get Schlomo Perets' FrameMaker-to-Acrobat TimeSavers 5.0. From the FrameUsers mailing list:
    Schlomo Perets said:
    In FrameMaker-to-Acrobat TimeSavers 5.0, the "new window" link control was extended to optionally display web-based links in a new browser window (Links/General tab, Cross-file links: Open PDF in a new window, Also apply to web links).
    The function can apply to all web links (i.e. no need to modify anything in the FrameMaker file), or to individual links (in which case a special hypertext marker has to be used instead of the standard "message URL http://..." marker).

  • How to force safari to open a new window when dock icon is clicked

    If Safari is already running on my MacBook Yosemite, and I click on the Safari icon in the dock, the Safari window is brought forward.  The behavior  I want is whenever I click the safari icon on the dock, is that a new safari browser window is opened.  I don't see this option in preferences (or any keyboard  mouse combination) that would make the dock icon open a new browser window.    (an option is available for new windows if you click on a hyperlink, but not if you click on the dock icon) .
    p.s. And I don't want to first  have to place focus on the current running safari and then click File New...too many steps when all I want is a new browser window

    Hi css,
    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
    I understand that you would like to click on Safari in your Dock and have it open a new Safari Window. As you said in your post, clicking on Safari in the Dock brings the Safari window forward. There are a couple of possibilities to help resolve this situation. You can control-click (right click if enabled) on Safari in your Dock which will give you the option to open a new window. You can also click and hold on Safari, otherwise known as Press, to display these same options.

  • Open a new window when you click on a button

    Hi all,
    I'm a newbie on BPS and web interface on BPS. I have a problem on how to open a new window.
    I explain:
    We have a page with a button which call a function. We want to change this button in the way when you ckick it, a new window appears and present a page with two buttons which call each a function(this page is already created thanks to bps_wb).
    The problem is : how to modify the button in the way it opens a new window with in parameter the page.
    Thanks by advance.
    Best regards,
    Nicolas

    Hi Nicolas,
    I don't know about a pop-up, but if you are trying to open a page (page 2) in a new window (internet explorer window), then do the following:
    Instead of using a navigate pushbutton, use a hyperlink component.
    In the URL selection option insert the URL (web address) of page 2. You can find the URL by going to SE80, in the repository browser select "BSP Application" and "THE TECHNICAL NAME OF YOUR BPS". Open your BSP and go to the folder "pages with flow logic" and find your "page 2". Double click on your page and then select the "properties" tab and navigate to the bottom where you will see the pages URL.
    Insert this URL address into your hyperlink component back in the Web Interface Builder.
    Leave the Target selection as parent. Make sure your internet explorer enhanced options are set to "not reuse the same window" under the browser options.
    Good luck.
    Rael
