Open a PNG file in Photoshop from Bridge

Hello,
When I click a .png file in Bridge it is opening in Fireworks. How can be able to open it in Photoshop?
Thanks,
Shivanand

you can do by 2 ways:
1. simplest, just drag it to PS,
2. go to menu "Edit -> Preferences -> File Type Association"
3. find PNG entry, set the associated file as PS executable file.
then you done!
thanks!

  • Why Can't I Open My PNG Files? Going from MAC to PC

I created .png files in Photoshop CS on my MAC. Now I can't open them in Photoshop 6 on my PC running Windows Vista. Why? The files open as blank. All .jpg and .psd files open with no trouble.

I just installed PhotoShop 6.0 on from an old disk (licensed) onto my laptop Toshiba PC running Windows Vista. I have had no problems so far except for this .png issue. I basically just wanted a high-resolution image with a transparent background. I suppose I could try to save them again as uncompressed .psd images on my MAC and try opening them again on the laptop...but I hate having to do weird things like that. png should work!

  • Can't open PNG files in Photoshop CS5...??

I'm seeing lots of threads with this problem but none of them seem to have an answer.
For some reason right now when I try to open a PNG file in Photoshop it just crashes.  I end up with a neverending "hour glass".
I had all of my website project directories on a network share.  As I'm no longer sharing all of these files with an office of people I decided to move all of these project files back to my own local machine.  Ever since I've done that I can't open PNG files in Photoshop anymore.
Any information on what could have caused this, or more importantly, how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

I was able to edit PNG files just fine up until today, and the only thing I've done is move the files from the network share to my local hard drive.
Any PNG, large or small won't work right now.  All of the other threads I see where people are talking about this say it's happening with their GIF files, too.  I just tried one here and the same thing happened.  From within Photoshop I did File -> Open, browsed to my image directory and the moment I clicked on one of the GIF files it locked up.
So yeah, I'm certain it's isolated to my machine right now.  I just have no idea at all what could possibly be causing this.  The other threads are mentioning netework shares, too, but usually still trying to open over the network.  In my case it was working fine when I did it over the network, but now that I'm opening local files it's failing.

    Hi,
The D810 requires Camera Raw 8.6 or later - the latest version that is compatible with Photoshop Elements 12 is Camera Raw 8.5 as far as I can see.
You need to either buy a new version of Photoshop Elements or use the free Adobe DNG converter.

  • I cannot open JPG images in Camera RAW from Bridge or via "Open as" facility in Photoshop

I am going crazy with Photoshop CC!!! I have been using Photoshop CC and Bridge CC since Feb 2014 and have a recurring problem, which comes back periodically after having been fixed with the aid of the Adobe Help Chat facility. Today the Chat facility is not on-line, so in desperation I'm hoping someone in the Community can help me.
When I try to open a JPG file in Bridge I get the message "Bridge's parent application is not active. Bridge requires that aqualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature".
When I try to open a JPG file in Photoshop using the "Open As" facility, I get the message "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file".
I am running CC on a Dell laptop under Windows 7 64-bit.
    Can anyone help me please?

I should add that JPGs edited with ACR usually need to be writable for ACR to be able to store the adjustment-settings inside themselves.  RAW files typically use an XMP sidecar to store settings, but JPGs typically don't.
If the files weren't read/write then ACR would have no way to store the adjustments in them and so is smart enough to not make them available for editing.
The other hint is that if you copy the files to your desktop--where the permissions are likely to be more friendly, they work.
To check the permissions, right-click on one of the files in Explorer, select Properties from the context menu and look at the Security tab.  Look at the various user-groups, like Users, Authenticated Users, Administrators, etc, and see what access each has to one oft he problem files, and then to one of the files that works ok.
You might also check the Effective Rights of a particular user to a particular file by clicking on the Advanced button in the Security tab.  Here is an example where I show only Read + Read & Execute access to an NEF for general users, but when I check my own logged in User (steve) I have Full Control which includes all the other access privileges, and this is either because I'm in the Administrators group or I am the owner, I'm not sure.  It is possible that Bridge or Photoshop is running in a user context other than your logged in user, or it's possible that another user accessed the files and changed the permissions to them.

  • Opening Fireworks .png file from Dreamweaver

Anybody have problems with the connectivity between Fireworks
and Dreamweaver? I have a Retail version of Macromedia Studio 8.
I've been designing a new site and noticed that my fireworks .png
file is not updating from my changes in Dreamweaver (probably
because I cannot open from the edit button in Dreamweaver.) When I
try to open the .png file from the Edit button at the bottom of the
Properties Panel in Dreamweaver it gives me an Error Message :
Unable to Launch. Please be sure that the application exists and
    that there is enough memory.
Obviously the only benefit of Macromedia suite is the
connectivity. Well, since I don't have it it is sucking. Was it a
misinstallation on my part? Anybody know what's happening here or
    how to fix?
    Thanks,
    JP

Copy the file off the server, then open it?
And what version of Photoshop are you using?  On what OS version?
Most likely this is a bug in the OS or server software that just shows up because of the asynchronous file IO used by Photoshop (to improve performance).

  • Cannot open my NEF files in Photoshop CS6 from my new Nikon D800 camera.

That's it, I Cannot open my NEF files in Photoshop CS6 Camera Raw from my new Nikon D800 camera. What am I doing wrong or what is wrong? I have the plug-in Camera Raw 7. and can open TIFF files but not the NEF files.
    Peace,
    Charles Fennen

    Hi ssprengel,
to explain the scenario, i am basically a D7000 user and I do post production with Windows computer. But for an assignment I have hired D800, they have provided me their SD memory card. I have used the same memory card while shooting.
I have transferred the NEF files from the camera using Nikon software. The transfer was successful but i am not able to open the Raw NEF file with ACR. Even my plugins are updated till date.
The NEF thumbnails are having small lock logo in the bottom left corner. I do not know what does that mean. Like this.
Kindly let me know what would be the prob? if my RAW files are corrupted kindly let me know how will I recover them?
    Thank you.

  • Why is it that Photoshop Elements takes a very long time to open a png file?

Even though I wait for a very long time (minutes)  for Photoshop Elements 11 to open a PNG file, the computer's process monitor shows nothing discernible going on while I am waiting.
This is on a Windows 7 machine with an Intel I7 4 core processor.

I killed Firefox and Thunderbird and tried it again.  Using a stopwatch, it took 5 minutes 54 seconds to open the file.  In the interim the application windows were frozen.  The process monitor showed Photoshop not responding.  The thread analysis showed a thread waiting on splwow64.exe.
splwow64.exe allows 32-bit applications to connect with the 64-bit printer spooler service on x64 Windows builds.
I should also point out that when I exit Photoshop, it does not seem to die.  I cannot restart it in the normal way.  The starter software just goes away when I click on PE 11.  I finally fo into the task monitor and kull the PhotoshopElements process.  Then I can restart Photoshop Elements.  Although after a long time since I exited PE while I was writing this post, I then just tried opening PE the normal way and it worked.  Many of these items I mention are probably red herrings.

I have Adobe Photoshop CS4 and have just upgraded my Mac operating system to Yosemite with the newest version of Java 2014 running. When I try to access Photoshop from Bridge or directly open it asks for a Legacy Version of Java 6. As I am a pensioner I cannot afford an upgrade does anyone know of a work-around for this problem?

    Hi Daddyfred,
CS4 Photoshop has not been tested on Yosemite. But still you can try the Java 6 update using the below link.

  • Cannot open .png file in PhotoShop Elements 9

    Hello,
I am unable to open a .png file on a PC with the following dimmensions:
    Width: 4070
    Height: 32305
I get the following error when I try to open to image file with PSE 9:
"could not complete request because of a problem with the file-format module interface"
The file was created on a Mac in Photoshop. However, Another employee was able to open the file on a PC in Photoshop CS.
She received the following message when she opened the file:
"The document Aplan_top5%_heatmap.png has an embedded color profile that does not match the RGB working space. The embedded profile will be used instead of the working one.
    Embedded Profile: Generic RGB profile
    Working Profile: sRGB Ie61966-2.1"
Can anyone explain to me why another employee can open the .png file in Adobe Photoshop CS (way older version) and not in PSE9?
Thanks for any assistance that you can provide.

If the pixel dimensions your gave are right W 4070 x H 32305,
then the document is too big for pse9.
Elements will only open documents of 30,000 pixels on less,
either width or height. In other words if the document size is greater than 30,000
pixels in width or 30.000 pixels in height, photoshop elements won't open the file.
Newer versions of the full photoshop can handle documents of 300,000 pixels.

  • Add ability for Lightroom to open a RAW file in Photoshop

Currently, one cannot open RAW files in Photoshop from Lightroom. I realize that there are many of the same ACR 4.1 features in LR, but sometimes I just want to the open the RAW file directly in Photoshop.

I agree with this feature request.
I have lightroom and PS Extended. Lightroom is perfect for browsing and searching through my RAW images (much better than Bridge I find), and many times I will process the RAW in lightroom and then send the TIFF to Photoshop for further editing.
HOWEVER, ;O) Photoshop extended has far more RAW capability. Sometimes I look at a RAW in lightroom and would like to send that straight to PS Extended to process the RAW with the extra features. At the moment, I have to manually open photoshop, search for the photo (which is a long time consumer when I already found it in Lightroom) and then process.
This would be a very handy feature.
It would also work perfectly with a similar extra feature to export RAW to a 3rd party program. Sometimes, after browsing photos in lightroom, I would like to send the RAW straight to Photomatix, an HDR software for tone mapping. It only works with RAW for tone mapping, but Lightroom only allows you to send a TIFF/JPG to an external program.
These simple features would really really speed up my work flow.

  • Unable to open *any* picture files in Photoshop CC

I cannot seem to open any picture files in Photoshop CC. It doesn't seem to matter what file type it is.
.jpg .gif .png  no file will open.  They open just fine in Illustrator but Photoshop can't seem to find them.
I've tried modifying what program "opens" the file but Photoshop isn't listed. Window Media Player is listed, as
is Illustrator but I have to search for Photoshop and when I click on it, it doesn't do anything.
    Please help.

    Allyson,
    Another welcome here.
Along with the answers to Trevor's questions, how are you attempting to Open those Image files, i.e. Dbl-clicking on them in Windows Explorer, or from the File>Open menu in the Toolbar? If you are using the former, please try the latter. If you want to work from Windows Explorer, Rt-click on the file, and choose Open With, then Photoshop.
Your comment about WMP being the default viewing program, seems to indicate that your File Associations have been changed, with WMP now set as the target program. If this is the case, then you will likely want to go to Folder Options (check for your specific version of Windows), and reset the File Associations for, say PSD, PSB, JPEG, etc., to point to Ps.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How to open animated .GIF files in Photoshop CS3 and newer

Q: Since ImageReady is long gone from Photoshop, how can I open animated GIF files in Photoshop CS3 and newer?
    A: File -> import-> video to layers.
In the dialogue box type "*.*" to show all file types.
Select your GIF file and which frames to import.
They will now be available in your animation palette.

    Zeno
curt y, sorry for the late reply, I tried that but I doesn't work. I have to choose at least two files in the Load Layers window in order for the OK button to be available and then some action script uses the different files to make layers and merges them but not from the frames of the gif file. I can undo through the script to see what it did but it never accessed the frames of the gif file, just the first frame. Choosing "make frames from layers" in the animation palette only puts the original files into layers - that is only the first frame of the gif file.
I guess I'm out of luck with the 64  bit version of Photoshop as Zeno suggested :-(
What program would you people suggest for opening each frame from gif files?

  • How do I open my raw files in photoshop elements 12 editor-..my files convert to jpegs

How do I open my raw files in photoshop elements 12 editor.  I have a MacBook. I use the iPhoto and move the files I want to work on into elements, but it converts the raw files into jpeg files.
    Thanks for your help!!!

Are you opening the image directly from iPhoto? Right click & choose Edit in >> Photoshop Elements Editor
This link is old but gives information on set up. It relates to PSE11 but the principle is the same. In iPhoto prefs you navigate to the editor application in the support files folder. Start from Finder by holding down the Alt (Optn key) and choosing Library.
