Open a Quicktime Movie in FCE

I'm trying to open a Quicktime movie created in FCPro so I can edit it in FCE. It's an XDCam EX 720p10 codec. Should I be able to open this?
Thanks!

From FCP or Compressor you can convert it to 720p30 (I don't know 720p10 is) using the Apple Intermediate Codec. That will be editable in FCE.

    How do I create a link in Dreamweaver8 which will open a QuickTime movie in the QuickTime Player and not in another browser window of Safari?

    Looking at the source of this page, the markup you posted was:
    <pre><a href="Excerpts-The Cult.mov" target="QUICKTIMEPLAYER">Video<br></pre>
    1. An HREF tag needs to be closed with an </a> immediately after the word you're hyperlinking (in this case, "Video").
    2. Many web servers are cAsE sEnSiTiVe. Best to use all lower case chars in your filename, and avoid space chars altogether (spaces are interpreted as a '%20' character code, that can muck things up).
    3. Instead of an HREF tag, you need to use an EMBED tag to invoke the QT Plugin, as demonstrated on the page I linked to above. The HREF tag doesn't understand TARGET="QUICKTIMEPLAYER", only the QT Plugin understands that attribute.
    4. For cross-platform compatibility (specifically with Internet Explorer Win 5.5SP2 & above), you also need to use an OBJECT tag to embed your mov. That will be ignored by browsers that use Netscape-style plugins (they use EMBED), but still read by browsers that use ActiveX controls (i.e: Internet Explorer Win).
    You might find it useful to work through the basic embedding QT tutorial, also the ADC HTML Scripting Guide for QT.
    If all that makes your head spin, grab a copy of PAGEot and get it to generate the QT markup for you.

  • How do I get Javascript or HTML to open a QuickTime movie as a slideshow?

    I have turned a 320x240 pixel photo sequence into a QuickTime movie using the "File > Open Image Sequence ..." option. However, that required I specify an equal amount of time to display each photo.
    Using the following JavaScript, I can, from within a webpage, play that QuickTime movie as a movie in another window by simply clicking on the link to it in the webpage:
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
    <!-- hide this script from old browsers
    // This script opens a new browser window and writes
    // HTML to play an video with a title and caption
    function show_movie( pFileName, pTitle, pCaption, pEnd) {
    // specify window parameters
    movieWin = window.open( "", "", "width=370,height=400,status,scrollbars,resizable");
    // wrote content to window
    movieWin.document.write('<html><head><title>' + pTitle + '</title></head>');
    movieWin.document.write('<BODY BGCOLOR=#000000 TEXT=#FFFFCC LINK=#33CCFF VLINK=#FF6666>');
    movieWin.document.write('<center>');
    movieWin.document.write('<font size="+1" face="arial,helvetica"><b>' + pCaption + '</b></font><br>');
    movieWin.document.write('<object width="320" height="256">');
    movieWin.document.write('<embed src="' + pFileName + '" width="320" height="256" autostart="true" pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/"></embed></object><p>');
    movieWin.document.write('<font face="arial,helvetica">');
    movieWin.document.write('' + pEnd + '<br>');
    movieWin.document.write('<p></font></body></html>');
    movieWin.document.write('<form>');
    movieWin.document.write('<input type=button value="Close Window" onClick="javascript:window.close();" name="button">');
    movieWin.document.write('</form>');
    movieWin.document.close();
    // If we are on NetScape, we can bring the window to the front
    if (navigator.appName.substring(0,8) == "Netscape") movieWin.focus();
    // done hiding from old browsers -->
    </SCRIPT>
    But some photos need to be displayed for a longer time than others.
    QuickTime 7.1.2 "View > Present Movie > Slideshow > Play" will play the movie as a slideshow -- the person looking at it has full control over how much time a photo is displayed before going to the next one.
    My JavaScript allows the user to pause the movie and continue it at will, but if I can modify it to play the movie directly as a slideshow like QuickTime 7.1.2, please let me know how.

  • Using Quicktime Movies in FCE

    I'm trying to edit quicktime movies I shot with my digital camera. The camera original format is AVI. I use Quicktime Pro to export Mac friendly .mov files and then import those into FCE. Of course, when I edit these clips into the timeline, they appear as unrendered.
    When I go to the sequence settings, there is no Quicktime option there, so I can't match them to the original clip settings.
    The only solution I know of is to put all my clips into the timeline and render them overnight. That's okay, but then if I'm editing and I delete part of a rendered clip in the sequence timeline and then want to put it back, I have to render that section of the clip all over again.
    Is there an easy solution to all this in either the sequence settings or rendering process?
    Thanks!
    Niels

    You exported the file to the wrong format. It has to be a QuickTime .mov file in either DV NTSC or DV PAL codes, or in the Apple Intermediate Codec for HD material.

  • I can't import Quicktime movies into FCE 4?

    Hi, I'm trying to import an eight second Quicktime movie (that I made in the new Motion 5) into Final Cut Express 4. When I try to import it, a message pops up saying "Error: Unknown File." Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

    FCE works with two types of QuickTime codecs: DV and AIC.  When you exported the file from Motion 5, which of those two did you use?

  • "Include" options when doing an export to QuickTime Movie in FCE 4?

    I've been doing a ton of testing on using keyframe motion with stills (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1646571&tstart=0) so I'm not sure if I've made up what I think happened, or if it's a different option that I'm not seeing.
    When I added some text to one of my tests, I did an File > Export > QuickTime Movie. Then under the Save As... dialog box, the Include menu had a whole bunch of options that I had never seen before, with the first few of them starting with the "#" sign, if I'm not mistaken.
    Normally I only see "Audio and Video", "Audio Only" and "Video Only". Did I dream this scenario where I thought I saw a whole long list of things in there that, if I remember right, some of them appeared to be like font names? Maybe it was a different app. Like I said, I've been doing a ton of testing. Reason I ask is because whatever it was, in whatever app it was, that was the only test where I was able to produce an output file that does what I want.
    Thanks.

    don't need this one answered.

  • Unable to import Quicktime movies to FCE

    Hi Everyone,
    No matter which codec I convert it to, FCE keeps on rejecting my QT files.
    I started with a screen-cast QT file, that got rejected with: "file error: unknown file". This is a 1280x800 movie with H.264 codec that plays fine in QT 7 en X.
    Then I tried to convert it to uncompressed video, DV-PAL, DVCPRO-PAL. All played fine in QT 7 en QTX, but got rejected in FCE.
    AVI files are allowed though, which is strange of course. DV files too, but that format is not right for a screen-cast.
    Does anyone have a clue hoe to solve this issue? Thanks!

    Thanks Martin,
    It seems to be a combination of glitces from both QT and FCE. First I tried all codecs, and everytime replaced the same export file and re-imported it. I got it working with the intermediate codec indeed but ONLY when setting the frame rate manually. From that moment all codecs and settings worked when deleting and re-importing, because FCE did not see the difference between the files, unless I renamed them. Renaming forced FCE to look at the files again. The only thing now is that FCE needs to render the Intermediate Codec files. DV is just not good enough for this.

  • Nobody can open my quicktime movies sent as attachment....

    It's a basic thing. I've tried many. Nothing works. What's the easyest way to export them so people can open it? 'Via quick time conversion' and then...
    What am I doing wrong????

    You'll need to export as an mpeg-4 video or H.264
    export > using QuickTime conversion > options > settings > Compression Type > mpeg-4 video or H.264 > OK > OK > give it a name and save location > save.
    Another thing one could do, after you have done the above is up-load to something like Google video. your video can set set as private and, then you can just email the link directly to the video. makes for faster emailing of video files.

    Sorry, no one here can help you. You're in the wrong fourm. It's posted in the iPod Shuffle Fourm. But, I can answer your question. It's either due to a corrupt file or slow connection. It's that simple. Just ask them to email it to you again, because if the file is corrupt, it's that easy.

  • Quicktime Movies that Open in Safari eat up hard drive space. Howto Delete?

    I have a Mac Book Pro. The hard drive space is minimal as you probably know. Whenever I open up a Quicktime Movie in Safari the movie will open in a new Safari window. Some of the movies are rather large trailers and what not. I notice that my hard drive space goes down with each movie I open. Where are these movies saved? How do i clear up this space after i'm done watching? I hate needing to delete other stuff to open up quicktime movies.

    If you've set the cache to 100 MB's that all QuickTime will use.
    You're going to have much bigger issues with such little free space on your drive. Why not buy a cheap external drive and move large folders like Music, Movies and Pictures to it.
    iTunes, iPhoto and iMovie can all store their files on external drives.

  • My older M-JPEG quicktime movies play black in Quicktime and Keynote

    I was just recently asked to give a presentation that I had put together 3 years ago in Keynote.  All of my quicktime movies that Keynote were using were M-JPEG and used to all play great the last time I opened my file.  Since Then I've updated my OS to 10.7.1, I have a Macbook Pro, Quicktime 10.1, Keynote 09,  but also have Quicktime Pro.
    When I play my keynote, all of my movies come up black when they play.  If I try and open my quicktime movies directly and play them in Quicktime or Quicktime pro, they also come up black.  But I can open it in VLC and it plays fine.
    I tried to start converting the quicktime movies using SmartConverter, but it's time consuming since I have over 50 quicktime movies that this keynote is referencing.  Some of the quicktime movies are also erroring out too when trying to convert them.
    Does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with M-JPEG quicktime movies that used to work just fine?  Anything I could do across the board to be able to use these rather than converting them all?
    Thanks,
    Dale

    QuickTime in Lion is not reliable as of 10.7.1. The next OS update will fix this. Should be out tomorrow when Apple updates all of its software for iCloud.
    See if your problems are gone then.

  • Quicktime movies in Firefox 3.0.2

    Since I've installed the newest version of Firefox, i can't seem to open any quicktime movies inside my browser (it shows me the message that it lacks a plugin, altough it says being installed when i go to the Extras section).
    Any help? Thanks already.

    I think I'm having the same problem.
    Firefox doesn't play any quicktime video from apple site. Let's take any Mac x PC ad, for example.
    Versions: Firefox 3.0.2, Quicktime 7.5.5, Leopard 10.5.5.
    Background:
    The Safari plugin was broken until I removed the /Library/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin today so now, Safari is good to go.
    What I've already tried:
    Firefox on the other hand apparently uses the /Library/QuickTime Plugin.plugin filder, which exists. If I remove it, Firefox doesn't display any more messages regarding the lack of a plugin and the video doesn't play - I've waited about 2 minutes on an 3MB ADSL connection. After this I reinstalled Quicktime 7.5.5 and the folders were there again. Removed the Safari one and Safari was ok again. Firefox was still no good. As the about:plugins address on Firefox showed something like this:
    aplicativo/sdp Descritor de transmissão SDP sdp Sim
    aplicativo/x-sdp Descritor de transmissão SDP sdp Sim
    aplicativo/x-rtsp Descritor de transmissão RTSP rtsp,rts Sim

    v Vídeo para Windows avi,vfw Sim
    v Vídeo para Windows avi,vfw Sim
    v AutoDesk Animator flc,fli,cel Sim
    Áudio WAVE wav,bwf Sim
    I'm pretty pretty shure that this a Localization problem because it doesn't display the letters with accent:
    video == vídeo
    audio == áudio
    So I've tried to edit the file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist to this:
    1 <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

    ... (many more lines)
    with console's vim. Reopened Firefox ant it was the same: when try to access a video page, Plugin not found... Still not happy, I tried to remove the pref and restart Firefox. Still not good...
    Opened System Preferences/Quicktime/Advanced(tab) in Mime, changed some codec to false and the file went back to pt_BR:

  • Need help converting quicktime movies into Flash files

    I need to convert a QT, PhotoJPEG compressed, movie file into a .flv format. I have AE 6.5 Standard and it keeps quitting on exporting a SWV file which would could probably get me by with my client. But, again, it errors out saying something like a JPG is busy, or a file is busy.
    I have FlipforMac,a purchased version. But I'm not sure if converting it into a .wmv and then a Flash file is the best route or is even possible.
    Any suggestions or ideas of software that I could purchase??

    i don't think you have read up on the use of flash video
    (FLV). there's nothing you need that you do
    not already have (except maybe quicktime pro or some other
    video editing program). the FLV exporter
    comes FREE with flash 8. You should be able to open your
    quicktime movie in QT PRO and export to FLV
    format - then use any of the flash playback components for
    FLV files - best bet is to read the help
    docs on this subject and go to the devnet section of
    adobe.com where there are several in-depth
    articles about implementing flash video into your site.

  • Anamorphic to QuickTime .mov is stretched to 4:3

    When I output to a QuickTime movie, my FCE sequence goes from 16:9 to 4:3, with the attendant vertical stretch.
    I have mini-DV SD footage shot in anamorphic mode, mixed with 16:9 HD MPEG-4 720p footage shot with my digital still camera. I used Compressor to convert the HD shots to DV-NTSC Anamorphic, so no rendering needed. I am using FCE 3.5. My sequences have the anamorphic option ticked, Compressor: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, Pixel Aspect: NTSC - CCIR 601, Frame size: 720:480.
    But why does Quicktime want to stretch the 16:9 footage to full frame 4:3? I tried a lot of different output routes, the closest being to use QuickTime Conversion to make a DV Stream 4:3, which gave me a 4:3 Quicktime movie with black bars, but at least the aspect ratio was right. Most other options either gave me a vertical stretch to 4:3, no black bars, or kind of a 16:7, which was squatty, making the people fat.
    As I said, the source material AND the sequences are checked for anamorphic, and look fine in FCE 3.5. But most of the Quicktime options stretch it vertically to 4:3 on output.
    HELP!
    rcarbaugh

    Thank you for your responses this morning.
    I realized this morning that I did not indicate for what purpose I am exporting in the first place. Sorry. The ultimate aim for this is web streaming on my website. Some of it may go to YouTube, but the primary content is a little over an hour, so that limits what YouTube can provide.
    I do have QuickTime Pro, although I clearly do not know how to use it to solve my mystery.
    Since the majority of the footage is from my old-school mini-DV NTSC camcorder, with only about 10% from the digital still camera in HD 720p (1280x720) movie mode, my understanding was that the best route was to shoot the mini-DV in 16:9 WideScreen mode, then use Compressor to convert the 16:9 HD footage to DV-NTSC mode. That allowed me to edit in FCE 3.5 in a 16:9 environment without any rendering of footage.
    So, I understand that "All DV NTSC is 720x480 whether it's 4:3 or widescreen." Which means that in my case, I will end up with a 4:3 output with black bars top and bottom. Unavoidable, I suppose. I'm okay with that, I guess, although it would be great to have it 16:9 on the web without bars... say 720x405 or something like that. But that is a different issue. Right now, I just want to output it to the web with the proper aspect ratio.
    "The widescreen image is done by anamorphically squeezing the image horizontally." Well, squeezing or stretching is exactly what I DON'T want. The footage imports into FCE as 16:9 with gray bars top and bottom and the people look normal. But it exports to QuickTime as 4:3 stretched with no black bars, and people look tall and skinny. Playing back from QuickTime Pro plays back tall and skinny with no black bars in a 4:3 window.
    Is that enough info? The sequence is set with the anamorphic flag checked, and so is all of the footage. But the output movie looks like the anamorphic flag was unchecked and I don't know where to check it.
    If I output it using QuickTime Conversion or Compressor to 720p with cropping, but make it a custom size of 720x405 would it take the NTSC DV footage and keep it 720 wide but give me a 16:9 output? Or would it try to distort everything to 1280x720, then squeeze it down?
    It is too late now for this project, but should I have simply shot the DV footage 4:3 and used cropping on the 720p HD footage to make it 4:3/720x480?
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
