Open an image to the size of the image.

I know this is hard to describe. I have a new iMac 27"
Each time I open an image in Fireworks it opens with a big gray background which doesn't allow me to see my desktop or other programs like Dreamweaver. When you open an image in Photoshop it opens to the exact size of the imagem left hand corner and size it but is there a more efficient way?
I know I can manually grab the botton
Can this preference be set in Fireworks.
I have enclosed a reduced size of my screen to let you see what I mean.
Thank you...

Hi
Sorry, that didn't work.... With these new big <AC screens it is a pain to have to grab the corner of each each I work on to resize and I was hoping that I could get Fireworks to open the images that I work on without all that grey area..... like Photoshop does.

  • Determining the size of an Image

    I am running Pages 5.2 and I have a document with a whole load of images taken from photos. Usually I shrink the original images to keep the document size manageable but I forgot on some but I don't know which. Is there a way I can determine the size of individual images in the document ?

    In Pages v5.2, there does not appear any means to assess the image storage size, but File > Reduce File Size will offer a prompt stating an amount it can reduce the current selected image.
    Another approach is to select the image, and press command+C to put it on the clipboard. Launch Preview, ignore the open dialog, and choose File > New from Clipboard. You now have two choices to assess image size: 1) Use the Inspector (General Info panel) from the toolbar, or 2) Menu > Tools > Adjust Size...

    Thanks for the help. I installed CC and it fixed everything but Photoshop. I guess I will have to use my old laptop for images until Adobe fixes the problem. Do you know of a place where we can send issues like these to Adobe?

  • What is happening when I change the size of the image in the program sequence window?

    I noticed that I can change the image size of my exported file. I imported a 720 x 480 DV file into CS5.5. I went to my program sequence window and changed the settings to show the smallest image in that window. I then clicked on the image and used the handles that appear to make that small image large enough to nearly fill the screen. When I exported my final file and played the resulting WMV, the image on my screen was nearly twice as large as it would have been if I had not previously altered the image size in the program sequence window. I had to do this alteration for each clip in my timeline, or the unaltered ones would stay at the smaller size. The quality did not seem to be significantly impaired. I learned about this on a youtube video. The person who did the video claimed that this was a simple and quick way to upgrade standard video to HD. Of course this is not true. He was only changing the size of the resulting video. Does anyone know what is really happing when you do this procedure and why it changes the size of the exported  video?

    The size (resolution) of the exported video is not affected by anything you do while editing.  It is dependant solely on the resolution set in the export settings.
    Ideally you want to edit in an sequence that matches your media\, which will be the same size or larger than the required export.  In other words, the same or smaller is OK.  Making things bigger in post is not the best option.  If you need things bigger, shoot them bigger.

  • Can you change the size of the preview images on an Apple TV without changing video resolution?

    I have a 32 inch LCD TV. My room is relatively large and I can't easily see the preview images or read the text on the TV across the room. Is it possible to change the size of preview images in the menu screens without increasing the resolution of the TV itself? I think this should be possible, but can't seem to find a way to do it.

    No that's not something you can do on the Apple TV.
    If you have any suggestions that you think might enhance the Apple TV you can send Apple your feedback here.

    Thank You. This helps me alot to get into the masters and to see events and photos in a utilitarian way, but it is not as easy as viewing the normal iphoto format to find photos.  Can I do something else or did I not do something right to not see normal iphoto in Time Machine ?

    possible ? Is there anybody can help me?This has nothing to do with JDBC; you can only store and retrieve the image you have and there's no image manipulation functions in JDBC (nor should there be).
    I can see 2 options:
    1) serve the image file as is, but in the jsp that writes the html that contains the "<img>" tag that gets it, use the "height" and/or the "width" to scale the suppied image to presentation size you want.
    2) find some image manipulation code that will convert the image into the size you want
    Option 1 will work well if the problem you have is merely refining the image size for presentation. Option 2 is your only coice if it's the image files size itself you really want to change, not just it's appearance on a page.

  • Manipulation of the size of an image inserted into an Image Field

    Hi,
    I'm learning LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 as I go. My apologies for the lengthy post but I'm trying to give you as much background as possible.
    I'm are trying to design a form that will allow us to automate data entry (by importing fields into our Access dbase instead doing the data entry by hand).  However, at the end of the day, I also need an electronic pdf file of the same form and a printed paper copy.  Things have been going well until working with the Image Field.
    The form is fairly complicated - 4 pages long.  We're collecting extensive data on specific locales (location, what was seen there, who did the work, etc). On one page, three different images (maps) are needed, each one showing different details on the site's location.  [Please note these images will not be imported into the database but must appear in the electronic pdf and on the paper copy.] The people who fill out the forms are expected to do so using Adobe Reader (the form will have extended rights so that they can save the data they enter on the form).  They would then email us the form as an xml file.  Once we receive the form, we have to add some additional information and then the finalized paper copy and electronic pdf would be made.  We have already done this successfully with much simpler forms, none of which have needed Image fields.
    Here's my problem - one of the three maps required is a standard 1:50000 scale topographic map which shows things like contour lines and latitude/longitude lines.   For accuracy and comparison reasons, having the standard 1:50000 scale is very important to us, so we can make absolutely certain the submitter has the right location.  If the dot plotted on the map is out just a few millimeters, we're looking at an error that represents 100s of meters on the ground.
    The current form exists in Word - we have never had any rules about the image formats used (jpg, gif, etc) or the resolution, as long as the image was clear.  The only rule was that the scale of the topographical map image HAD to be at 1:50000 scale.  This gets very tricky because Word will automatically mess with the physical appearance of the image, based on its resolution.  In most cases, the submitter simply readjusted the image within Word, stretching/resizing it manually until the scale was correct.  Another option was to use an image in the emf file format so that Word didn't readjust the image's appearance based on its resolution. Whatever method they used was fine by us, as long as the scale was correct.
    So far, after playing with all the "sizing" options of the Image field, along with embedding or not embedding the file, I do not see any way to control the physical size of the image. On our form, the three image fields are different sizes, with 2 of them being small (~2x3 inches) and the 3rd being large (~7x7 inches). Regardless of the settings I chose for each image field, the program simply resizes the topographic map whatever Image field it was inserted into,  making the same image appear physically smaller or larger at will.  I cannot correct the scale by resizing it, like I can in Word.   Instead, when I try to select the image, all I am asked is if I wish to insert another image.  Inserting an .emf file format into the field doesn't work - it only shows a blank screen instead of the image.
    Is there a way for the user to adjust the image's physical size in the form, after inserting it (like they can do in Word)?  Demanding that everyone use a standardized resolution or image format also seems highly unlikely to work - there are too many submitters and too many programs that can be used to make the image (some are making them using GIS programs, others are scanning the bought topographic print).  I'd appreciate any help you can give me on this.  I have had very little luck tracking down discussions on Image fields and how they work best within LiveCycle.  Any comments would be helpful!

    Hi,
    I have an example here that is intended to demonstrate the difference between Positioned and Flowed subforms: http://assure.ly/i8pSdy.
    This shows how you can use a slider to change the dimensions of the image object.
    I have extended this to an example with buttons to scale the image: http://assure.ly/i8ZI5Y
    This may not be fine enough for your purposes, but it may give you some ideas.
    Good luck,

  • Why is the size of new image constructed using Bufferd Image class less?

    I am trying to compress image losslessly, for start I what I am doing is:
    step1. Access pixels of .jpg image and store in array
    Step2. Reconstruct the image from same array
    What I have found is, that the size of new image constructed is less than the original.
    I am pasting the code below
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    BufferedImage sourceImage = null;
    try {
    sourceImage = ImageIO.read(new File("Sample.jpg"));
    } catch (IOException e) {
    int type = sourceImage.getType();
    int w = sourceImage.getWidth();
    int h = sourceImage.getHeight();
    byte[] pixels = null;
    if (type == BufferedImage.TYPE_3BYTE_BGR) {
    System.out.println("type.3byte.bgr");
    pixels = (byte[]) sourceImage.getData().getDataElements(0, 0, w, h, null);
    try {
    BufferedImage edgesImage = new BufferedImage(w, h, BufferedImage.TYPE_3BYTE_BGR);
    edgesImage.getWritableTile(0, 0).setDataElements(0, 0, w, h, pixels);
    ImageIO.write(edgesImage, "jpg", new File("result.jpg"));
    } catch (IOException e) {
    Please could any one explain me why is it so?

    I am working on a IEEE paper where in I am supposed to achieve a better compression ratios as compared to current JPEG standards. So if only loading and displaying the image results in size reduction and quality too, how do I go ahead with my algorithmI suggest you:
    (a) start with images in an uncompressed format such as TIFF, rather than a format which is already lossy (JPEG)
    (b) acquire some basic knowledge about JPEG before you attempt to improve on it, and
    (c) learn to quote accurately. Otherwise your paper will be refereed out of existence. I didn't say anything about 'loading and displaying the image resulting in size reduction and quality too'. I said 'loading and storing'; and 'change the contents', not 'size reduction and quality too'.
    A JPEG load and store operation does not result in a bitwise identical file. Frankly you should already know that.

    picture size...in putting together a book I can move photos onto a page and enlarge the picture but is there a way to reduce the picture size? some cases I want a smaller picture and if I change the size of the picture box I only get a portion of the image. I want to reduce the image to fit the size of the box.

    If you right click on the image on the page in the context menu select photo box alignment and then select one of scale to fit {centered, Left-aligned, Right-aligned}
    That should do what you are loking for.

  • Adjusting the size of an image going into Photoshop from LR2

    At the bottom of the Adobe Camera Raw converter, there is a box that allows you to either make the default RAW file smaller or larger as it goes into PS. In Lightroom 2, I found the Edit In command, and the options to change to 16 bit and the color profile picker, but I don't see a command to change the size of the image.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    M. Jackson

    It's not there. It will only go into Photoshop at native resolution. Then it is one second work to scale it in Photoshop if you really need to.

  • Increasing the size of an image

    I have a BufferedImage and I want to double the size of this image.
    I have used following code for that but this approach distorts results.
    public static BufferedImage enlarge(BufferedImage image) {
    int w = 2 * image.getWidth();
    int h = 2 * image.getHeight();
    BufferedImage enlargedImage =
    new BufferedImage(w, h, image.getType());
    for (int y=0; y < h; ++y)
    for (int x=0; x < w; ++x)
    enlargedImage.setRGB(x, y, image.getRGB(x/n, y/n));
    return enlargedImage;
    Is there some build in method in Java that uses Interpolation to increase size of an Image.
    best wishes
    M3

    Consider using AffineTransform or simply scale() method of graphics.
    For instance check this post http://www.javalobby.org/java/forums/t19387.html
    Choosing good interpolation hints may imrpove quality of result

  • How to control the size of SVG images in epub files?

    There is unfortunately no support for SVG files in InDesign.
    Most of my images in jpg convertes nicely, but the small ones do not.
    Therefore I want to use SVG files which I have created in Illustrator.
    But how do I set the size in the epub file? Right now, whatever I do, they come out too big and I don't know how to control the size.
    Is there a program, like Sigil or other, that can place the image for me - I'm no html wizard you see....

    In any Java program, it is good practice to make sure your live objects leave some room in the heap for "scratch space." Without this, you will spend too much time in GC, and, in the worst cases, run out of memory. In the general case, you can see how much live data your application requires by looking at the heap used after a full GC's. For Coherence, you should ensure that live data, as you say, is under 70% of the maximum heap size.
    Coherence provides you tools to help enforce this policy. [http://coherence.oracle.com/display/COH35UG/local-scheme] describes how to size limit your cache. By implementing an eviction policy, you can control what happens when a size limit is exceeded.

  • For best performance what's the size of an image to be stored in database?

    Hi all,
    can any one tell me..for best performance what's the size of an image to be stored in database?
    is it <256kb  or >256mb?
    when i google  we can store image as varbinary(max) and its limit upto 2GB..
    Can anyone exlain it?
    is it performance wise better..
    thanx in advance..
    lucky

    Your question does not seem apparently meaningful. If you need to store a 5MB image in the database, you store a 5MB image, not a 200 KB image or a 200 MB image. Business needs always trumph performance.
    Not surprisingly, the larger the image the more resources it takes to read and write it.
    What is a meaningful question is whether you should use the FILESTREAM feature or not. The cut-off limit here is usually given as 1MB. That is, if your images typically exceeds 1MB you should use FILESTREAM and access the data through Win32
    API. If your images are generally below this size, you should stick to regular T-SQL.
