Open as layers

I have ps5.1 and lightroom 5.4. I am unable to send files from lightroom using open as layers in photoshop or open as a smart object in photoshop. I understand that it may have something to do with ACR.

Correct...using the deeper editing in Photoshop (such as open as layers) requires that LR and ACR versions are in sync. So, you'll not be able to use this feature unless you update to CS6 or CC and ACR 8.4. Sorry, the best you can do is to open the various images into PS CS5 and add the images as layers manually.

Merge to Panorama, HDR Pro, and Open as Layers Fails in CC 2014

I have had this issue for months.
There have been 2 updates to CC 2014 and still the issue remains.
I have uninstalled all versions of Photoshop and Lightroom and re-installed CC 2014 and LR. Still the problem remains.
I have read, in other posts on this forum, that the problem was addressed and that the up to date version now works correctly. This is not true for me.
I am unable to use Merge to Pano, HDR, or open as layers regardless of whether I try to do it from within Photoshop or from Lightroom.
All of the dialogs to open the images behave correctly: in PS, the dialogs take me through opening the files and allow me to select them and then click OK. But then the dialog window closes and nothing happens.
Same is true from Lightroom; I get a warning about the Camera Raw plugin (which is at 8.0.0.) but then it opens the merge dialog window and gives me the proper options and after I click OK, the dialog window closes and nothing happens.
To be perfectly clear, when I say "nothing happens, I mean NOTHING." The program does not lock up, no files open, no errors, nothing... I can watch my resource meters and they don't even twitch.
So, what's next?

Hi - I have a psd made using CS2. I can only see a single layer, and I have verified that the file opens correctly in CS2.

Open as Layers in Photoshop option does not work

PS starts to open the frames as layers, then once it gets to the last one, all of the layer disappear. HELP!!

"Open as layers in Photoshop" does not work

I have Lightroom 5 and Elements 13:
When I select 2 Pictures in Lightroom 5 and go to" Edit in" to "open in Photoshop as layers" I cannot select it. The option to "open as layers" is not available. Can anybody help me ?

Open as layers only works for Photoshop.

Bridge open in Layers PS CS6/CC 2014-issue

Hi there. I am currently using PS CC 2014 but still have PS CS6 an my HDD. As soon as I try to open several pics into layers from Bridge, CS6 NOT CC starts to do so...?!
I have a 2012 MacBook Pro with Mavericks installed.

Of course I did NOT have Bridge CC installed. I must have assumed, it would

FEATURE REQUEST: Preserve Transparency of Files when Opening As Layers in Photoshop

I am a digital scrapbooker and I have begun using Lightroom to organize my digital scrapbooking supplies. A file format that is very common in digital scrapbooking is PNG format. However, PNG is not setup to accept metadata so part of my workflow is converting the PNG files to PSD files to retain the transparency and adding the ability to add metadata.
This works very well for me - when I want to scrapbook, I can search for my supplies by color, etc. and then choose Edit In, etc. The biggest drawback is that I can't do Edit In > Open As Layers in Photoshop without losing the transparency in the PSD (formerly PNG file). The transparency is retained when I choose Edit In> Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5 > Edit Original.
So if you all could do something to preserve the original and still open it as layers in Photoshop, that would be wonderful!

Another request that goes along with this one - is allowing transparent files to retain their transparency in the Print Module. I am building storyboards and would love to be able to add a transparent TIF or PSD file on top of photos before printing.

Specific size for Open as Layers in Photoshop

Using Export/Edit In/Open as Layers in Photoshop, is it possible to set a specific image size so that all files open the same size?
This would be great as I only need small files to make a collage out of many files both small and very large ones.

Photo -> Edit in -> Open as Layers in Photoshop
are all dimmed. How do you un dim them??

Those 3 options need more than one image selected to become active.

Open as layers in Photoshop does not apply adjustments

I adjust two images in LR4 then select the images, right click, choose Edit In->Open as Layers in Photoshop. The images open and stack as requested but no Lightroom adjustments are applied to either image.Single images opened for Photoshop give the choice to "Render using Lightroom" , "Open Anyway" or "Cancel". Images opened as layers only give the "Open Anyway" or "Cancel" Choices.
Is this behavior expected?

It's because there isn't a fully compatible version of ACR yet. Once the final release comes out and you update to a compatible ACR version, it'll work. At the moment ACR doesn't know what to do with the new settings.

Opening PSD layers in the timeline.

I have forever and a day opened PSD layers in Photoshop by double clicking the graphic on the timeline. Now nothing. Haven't changed settings or preferences. Not sure what to do. Is it something obvious I'm missing?

Your post is a bit confusing to me since you said; "I have forever and a day opened PSD layers in Photoshop by double clicking the graphic on the timeline."
The normal action when double-clicking a layered PSD file in the Timeline is that it opens in its own timeline since FCP treats layered PSDs as a nested Sequence. They will not open in Photoshop as you suggest. To get a PSD to open in Photoshop, right-click on it and select "Open in Editor."
But I may have misinterpreted want you want to do ... did you really mean "open in Photoshop" or do you mean you want to access the individual layers of the file in FCP?

Can't Open Adjustment Layers

(I have Photoshop CS6 for Windows 8)
Whenever I try to open an Adjustment Layer of any kind, whether it be Hue/Saturation, Brightness/Contrast, Curves, etc, Photoshop closes out. Well, not close out, but more like disappear.
It will show up as running/open on the task bar, but it's not.
I've tried to Restore & Maximize it, but neither of those options work. In the end I'll have to close the program out with Task Manager.
Does anyone have any idea as to why this is happening or how I can fix it?

If you set up the file accordingly: yes.
You have to take special care of some stuff. Search for it on this forum or the manual. It has been discussed here.

Can I close all layers? or even better, stop illustrator from opening all layers when I open a file?

I just installed cs6, and when I open files in Illustrator, it opens all of the layers which contain sublayers. It does this even if all the top-level layers were closed during the previous save. The files I work with have a large layer-structure, so re-closing the top-level layers every time I open a file wastes a lot of my time. Can I close all layers at once, or better yet, can I stop Illustrator from opening all of the layers automatically when I load a file?
If not, then WHY on earth not? I can't be the only one who opens and closes large files with lots of layers and sub-layers...

Edit: I also am noticing this problem is even worse in cs6, because openning and closing individual layers plays a little animation of rotating the triangular arrow before the layer which, cute as it may be, just makes the task of individually closing up all my layers that much more tedious. Can I turn off that little animation of the triangular arrow when opening and closing layers?

You can save it as a pdf and when you open that in AI the layers will not be opened even if they have sublayers.
Not true. Does the same nonsense an .AI file does. Saved as a .PDF, closed Layers/subgroups get opened.
And no one cares!
I do. Every other Adobe program with a layering sceme seems to be able to remember that you saved a file with all layers and subs closed. But not this one.
Maybe someone from the AI development team should ask someone from the Photoshop team how they've managed it.....for decades.

Cannot open a layered pdf file (64mb only) inside PS CS5 "not enough memory"

I cannot seem to open a pdf file inside PS CS5, I also created the file some 3 months ago, saving all the phostoshop layers in it. But now I can't open it inside the photoshop to retrieve the layers as I will be doing some changes. Unfortunately, the original psd file is gone for good. When I try to open it, it alsways says "not enough memory", i try to increase the ram to 4g, play with scratch disk setting but still no success. Any ideas? I can send the pdf file over and see if it open up in your machine. Please take note that the pdf file displays perfectly on a reader.

Is it possible to send photos from LR 5 to Photoshop Elements 12 and directly get them opened in layers?

I want to do Exposure Blending in Photoshop Elements 12 and I am wondering if it is possible to send photos (RAW) from LR 5 to Photoshop Elements 12 and get them directly opend in different layers?

I don't use Photoshop Elements. Photoshop has an option to open images merging them to HDR. Does Elements have an HDR option? If it doesn't then I don't think there's any way to send the images layered.
