Open Backup

How to perform an open backup? A closed backup is not possible, because afterwards the cache needs to be rebuild with the forms. The pop up of a mask would take too long.
The backup has to be done in one step with a script file and using OS-Utilities to save the files on a tape. The instance has several tablespaces and archivelog is enabled. How to do it that everything is consistent and a recovery after a media failure could be done? When can the redo log files be deleted?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Ovidiu
Unfortunately the backup feature is not available in WebAccess not even in 2012.

Go back to disk manager, assign a drive letter, after the mount. The vhdx will show in disk manager, right click on the vhdx, to add a drive letter

  • "Unable to open Backup"

You must copy the backup pieces from SysA to SysB -- to the expected location. This would be the same directory path as on SysA.
See the documentation on the DUPLICATE DATABASE command :
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14194/rcmsynta028.htm#RCMRF126
If the target and duplicate databases reside on different hosts, then you must do one of the following tasks for duplication to be successful:
Move backups and disk copies from the target host to the duplicate host to the same location as the target host so that the path names are identical
Move backups and disk copies from the target host to the duplicate host to a new location (so that the path names are different), and then CATALOG them.
Make sure that all backups and copies (disk or sbt) on the target host are remotely accessible from the duplicate host. Make sure that the archived redo logs are available in the expected location in the new host.

  • Time Machine doesn't open backup screen

I have problems opening the time machine backups.
I use both a TC and a Synology disk station with TM, both seem to run well and TM makes backups every hour. No errors are reported and TM shows new backups are made successfully.
However when I try to open TM it stalls. Normally you get the "purple space background" layering your backups in time. I now only get one finder screen, the background goes black.....and then nothing.
I somehow hoped it would go away with Yosemite, but it stayed.
    Who can help?

Question: If you make a new back-up and open it, could it also take a (very long) while to open as it is indexing? Or is "indexing" something it only does when using older bach-up sets after problems/ new setup?
The new backup should open practically instantly. You have no history and a clean simple new backup should be index and checked as part of making it.
Second thing I now remember is the problems started after using the TC back-up after a HD crash. My internal HD failed and I used the TC back-up to restore; with perfect result. But that probably has been the moment, TM wasn't functioning.
Yes, I think this is where the problem comes from. And you are now in a bit of a mess.. if you upgraded to Yosemite.. then whatever problems were there are multiplied. You cannot go backwards. So I think you might need to look at something major.
You cannot reinstall TM.. it is integrated into the OS. You really do need to do a clean install and import (using migrate your apps and files).
Before doing that I would use a software like Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable clone of your existing disk. And boot from it to check it is working.
Do a verify of the current install.. you will need to do this by booting to recovery area.. run disk utility and/or hardware tests.
OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support
In the end.. using CCC is a good replacement to TM.. it is simpler and seems to not get as messed up.. so you can continue using the install as is, but with CCC as your backup.. at the same time I think it is good to be planning for a completely clean install.. painful as that is.. and you will not be able to recover .. you can migrate your personal files.. but it would be best to reinstall the applications..
Sorry I had a drop out on my internet.. adsl and it is raining.. so it all goes to pot.
Double post and I cannot fix the top one.

  • Transferred backup file from old to new laptop but can't open backup file in new iTunes

    Hi
I've purchased the new iPhone 5, however, it won't allow me to backup from my iTunes from my old laptop (where my 4S's backup was) because iTunes 10.7 can't operate on OSX 10.5.8. So I transferred the backup file onto my new macbook air. When I plugged my new phone into the laptop and opened up iTunes, where can I find the option to set up my phone according to the backup that I transferred to the new macbook?
    Thanks!

  • Can't open Backup File in FCPX

After a software update, when we open Pro my students events and projects are gone. I see the project and event files in the backup folder, and I tried deleting the current version of the project and replacing with the backup, but the backup will only open in TextEdit - there is no option to bring it into FCP . I can't get the backup to open in FCP. Help!

Ok - here is the folder where the files are located:
The project you see is the backup file that has been renamed.
This shows where the file is located.
Does this help or do you need more info?

  • Lightroom opens Photoshop CC opens backup copy on external disk not copy on MacHD????

When using Edit In function form Lightroom (latest) the backup version of PS CC on an external is being opened rather than the app on Mac HD.......
    Why would this happen??

Because the OS doesn't realize that it's a backup disk and sees a perfectly good application there.

  • Cannot open backup files from Seagate drive

My original plan was the backup my files before upgrading my iMac from OS Tiger 10.4 to the current version of 10.6.3 (now .8 after updates).
I bought a Seagate external drive to backup my personal documents (.doc, .jpg's, .pdf's) on Tiger. After successfully installing Snow Leopard, the files won't open. A message saying it cannot open it. All my html files I created come up gibberish.
BUT the backup files on the drive are all fine and all show up. The backup drive works totally fine. Is it because of the OS upgrade? IF i went back to Tiger will this work???

After successfully installing Snow Leopard, the files won't open. A message saying it cannot open it. All my html files I created come up gibberish.
Do you have versions of software that run on Snow Leopard to open these files? If the applications were upgraded for Snow Leopard (vs. a new version issued after Snow Leopard came out), you may need to upgarde various application to open those files. What's the exact wording of the message you get?
But the backup files on the drive are all fine and all show up. The backup drive works totally fine.
That just indicates there's no problem with the files, but it still doesn't eliminate the possibility of you needing to upgrade some software to open the files. Check that first; that's always going to be a factor in deciding to upgrade OS X, since it could cost quite a bit.
If that's not a problem, then it could indicate a problem with installing Snow Leopard, in which case you can try reinstalling it. Before you do that, you should try creating a new user account on that machine and testing to see if you can open any of those files without a problem. If you can, that indicates the problem is specific to your regular account, and not a system issue.
As for your backup, how did you create it: with SuperDuper, Carbon Copy Cloner, or similar software, or did you just do a Finder copy from the Mac to the bacup drive?

  • Desktop Manager crashes when opening backup file with critical information

I was on a trip and a family member triggered my Bold's secure wipe (wrong password 10 times).  I had made a back-up just before the trip and it contains very critical information.  When I try to do a restore with Desktop Manager (4.7.0.32, same version as used to make the backup), it crashes as soon as I select the backup file.  I tried opening the .ipd backup file from Advanced instead, with the handset disconnected, with the same crash result: "An unhandled win32 exception has occured in DesktopMgr.exe [4340]." where the number in the brackets is different every time.
Please help me, I will likely lose my job if I cannot restore the information from this backup!
Edit: I tried reinstalling the Desktop Manager, and same thing.  I even tried 4.6 instead of 4.7 and again, same thing.

Connected to the USB, can you do a Restore > Advanced and select the critical databases?
Are you connected to the PC via USB to a rear PC USB port--not a USB hub, or front monitor port?

  • Time machine can't open backups after installing Mavericks

When upgrading to Mavericks the installation failed with a disk error. In the shop they formated the disk and re-installed 10.6.8. It appear that there was nothing wrong with the disk anyway.
Of course formatting caused me to loose all data, but I had made a new Timemachine backup before the installation.
Getting the computer back with old OS and empty I called to ask which should be the order of the following:
    1. Upgrade to Mavericks
    2. Restore my data from Timemachine
Advice was the above so this morning I upgraded successfully to Mavericks. However when I would like restore data (after a few issues making the Mac see the external backup disk) it appears thet Timemachine cannot open the backups older than this morning. It can see then on the right side of the screen, though. Can anyone tell me how to access these backups made under 10.6.8, please.
Another challenge will be that iPhoto does not seem to exist anymore. So if the Timemachine backup gets to work, to where would I restore photos?
    Kind regards
    Morten

Explanation is that Time Machine created a "new" backup when backup disk was first time connected after migration to Mavericks. This backup was obviously empty, i.e. only containing Mavericks but no user data. Consequently Migration assistant would find no data to migrate.
Solution was to go to Backups.backupdb on the external disk (in Finder)  and manually delete the backups created after the migration to Mavericks. Now the Migration assistant saw the backup I created just before the initial failed migration to Mavericks and could succesfully migrate all my data.
I guess you should be VERY careful with what you do manually on the backup disk, but I was out of options and the advice from the local shop worked.

  • Opening backup files

I cannot open the backup ipd files.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi there,
The backup files keep the data for the Desktop Software to restore them to your phone if needed. The files cannot be opened as they can only be read by other software (e.g. the Desktop Software).
You can try a third party program such as ABC Amber BlackBerry Converter for assistance as this program can apparently read the data stored in the .ipd backup files.

  • FCP wants to open backup drive

    Hi,
I'm using FCP on a mac pro. Via superduper I make regular backups of the 'scratch disk' to a usb drive. When opening FCP X it uses the projects en events on the backup drive not from the original drive. Any way to fix this?

No, because SuperDuper! is making clones, so the events and projects have exactly the same IDs. FCP can't load identical projects and events. Duplicates, duplicated from inside the application, have unique IDs. It's likely this will change in a forthcoming update.

  • How to open backup for playbook

I have backed up my playbook to my laptop desktop. How can open it on my laptop?

I have sold my playbook but want to open the backup folder that I backed up to my laptop.  I do have blackberry software on my laptop, but when I attempt to open this backup folder I'm told I need permission.  Where and how do I get permission to open my backed up folder?  I don't want to move this folder to another playbook, just open it on my laptop.
The backup can only be restore to another PlayBook or BB10 device, and it can not be open by any other mean, that is part of the BlackBerry security.
Otherwise anyone that could access your computer would be able to get to what ever you have on the device
