Open bookmark as an app tab?

In Firefox 4.0.1, is it possible to always have a bookmark launched in an app tab?
For example, I middle-click a Google bookmark on my bookmarks toolbar, and the Google website is spawned in a new app tab, rather than a normal tab.

Use a specific [[Managing profiles|profile]] to test Firefox 4.0b7 and keep your current Firefox profile for Firefox 3.6.

  • Open bookmark in a new tab

If I select a page from my Bookmarks it overwrites/replaces the current tab.
By pressing the Ctrl key the bookmarked site opens in a new tab.
Is there a way to reverse this 'norm'?
That is, I'd like my click on an entry in Bookmarks to open the selected page in a new tab. Whereas if I press Ctrl when selecting a bookmark entry, it will overwrite the current tab.

You can also middle-click a bookmark to have it open in a new tab.
TabMix Plus has an option to have bookmarks open in a new Tab, but I don't think that includes having it open in the current tab when {Ctrl + Click} is used.

  • Open bookmark in a new tab using mouse only - how?

Is there a way you can open a bookmarked page in a new tab using your mouse only? Like pressing the middle mouse button in FireFox. I don't like using an extra button on the keyboard to do this, or opening a new, empty tab first and then clicking on a bookmark.

okay, now this thread can die once again
    LOL
you can right-click (open in new tab) on bookmarks in your collections page, even those in folders. just can't do this from the bookmarks bar.
Yes, you're right, you can. (And you can Command-click to immediately open in a new tab - quicker and easier than right-clicking and then choosing a menu item, in my opinion.) I thought of mentioning that earlier, but it was clear to me that Rosalba is looking for a way to open a bookmark in the Bookmarks Menu in a new tab without any additional steps, whether opening the bookmarks collection in a new window first, opening a new tab first, etc.
Regardless, we have at least gone over what you can do in this thread.

  • Open bookmark results in "new tab". More is not possible!

[]Opening a bookmark or entering a web address does not work.
The result is only: "New tab".
Also opening in the Firefox Help menu results in "New tab".
By clicking on "New tab" nothing happens!

Can't you open any web page or do you only have that problem with bookmarks?
Issues with bookmarks or history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

  • Can't open bookmarks in a new tab after changing "browser.tabsinsertRelatedAfterCurrent" - even after changing it back.

I changed "browser.tabsinsertRelatedAfterCurrent" in about:config, and then changed it back after it didn't do what I had hoped it would do. The next time I tried to open a bookmark '''from the menu''' (not the little bookmarks button thing), nothing happens when I select "Open in a New Tab."
    EDIT:
Bah, I couldn't take it and just did a restore.

  • On OS X, middle click and command-click do not open bookmarks in a new tab

On OS X, middle clicking or Cmd-clicking on a link, or on a bookmark on the toolbar, opens that link in a new tab. However, middle clicking or Cmd-clicking on a bookmark in the Bookmarks menu opens the link in the current tab.
In the case of middle clicking, I am using an external mouse. Cmd-click fails to open a new tab from links in the Bookmarks menu both when using an external mouse, as well as when I use my MacBook trackpad.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?<br/> ''A troubleshooting mode.''<br />
1.You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holidng the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut. <br />
    2. Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut to open it again.''

  • App Tabs do not load on restart. "All of the App Tabs you have set when you close Firefox will open as App Tabs when you start Firefox again."

Use FF3 and taking a look at FF4. I set up some App Tabs. Close FF4. Open FF4. No App Tabs.
    Any Help?

Are you clearing your recent history when you close Firefox?
Firefox stores App Tabs and tab group details in the same file that stores details of browsing sessions. Make sure that you have not set Firefox to delete browsing history. For details of the setting to check see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Clear+Recent+History

  • Can't open bookmarks in new tab

About ten days ago, I stopped being able to open bookmarks in a new tab. In fact, if I right click them at all, I get a tiny gray box. It goes away with a reset, but if I try to install any of my old add-ons (even ones I install newly) it comes back. I've looked for programs installed, but I can't find anything that would have caused this.

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

  • Firefox occasionally crashes, after restarting it app tabs disappear. 8.0.1

From time to time, Firefox crashes.
When I open Firefox again, my app tabs disappear.
The problem is that I had more than 50 app tabs, and I really need them back, as I don't recall some sites' titles or addresses and I can't find them in history.
How can I restore or at least make sure that it doesnt' happen again?
If it is not restoreable, is it legal to change Firefox core files?

My problem is not necessarily when Firefox crashes, but when I have two windows open, one with my tabs and one plain one. If I close the one with my tabs first, and then the plain one, when i restart Firefox reloads only the plain window, and I cannot get my tabs back. This has happened to me numerous times and is highly annoying. I don't have 50 tabs like Mirac7, but it still frustrates me. Can't these be linked to my profile, instead of just the particular window I have open at the time?

  • I need more information on using the App Tab feature

The Help article on App Tabs says "Links to new websites open in a new tab so that your App Tab doesn't change." Unfortunately, mine do change the existing tab instead of opening a new one, so the next time I open Firefox all the App Tabs open at the last page I viewed on that site. How can I set the tabs so that they all stay at the original address as intended?

You need to middle click links as usual to open them in a new tab if you do not want to change the current page in an App tab. Otherwise you need an extension that can lock tabs to prevent that from happening.
You can look at Tab Mix Plus.

  • Why aren't my app tabs permanent?

I have created multiple app tabs, but every time I exit Firefox, the next time I open FF, all the app tabs are gone and I have to recreate them all from scratch. The intro video shows that the app tabs should be permanent and show up every time I start FF, but that's not the case for me.

So, the problem seems to be that I had my settings to clear browser history when closing FF. I went into Options>Privacy and then I unchecked the box which says "Clear History When Firefox Closes". This has fixed the issue for me, however, it seems strange that I'm unable to use app tabs without being able to clear my cache, browser history, etc.
I may have it fixed, but I'm not sure I'll use it. Chrome has a similar feature (don't remember it's name) but it is not dependent on my not clearing the history. Maybe I'm missing something though.

  • App tab wont stay as app tab when i reopen firefox

I remember it is stated in the app tab tutorial section that app tabs will stay as app tabs when you close and reopen firefox but mine doesnt do that. When i reopen open the browser my app tabs are gone. Anyone can help?

I had this problem after I installed an update for Java. Firefox also stopped remembering my open tabs from last time. I disabled all of the Java plug-ins, restarted, and it's worked great ever since. Haven't missed Java yet either.

  • Why is 'bookmark all tabs' disabled when multiple pinned app tabs are open?

I have 6 or so tabs open as 'App tabs', and no normal tabs.
I was expecting to be able to 'bookmark all tabs' so I can open my app tab configuration next time I start Firefox.
But the 'Bookmark all tabs' menu item is disabled.

It would still be nice to bookmark all open App Tabs. I use one window for App Tabs and others for random browsing. If for some reason I accidentally close the App Tabs window before I close the others, I have to manually re-establish the App Tabs window because it doesn't restore them.

  • How do I get App Tabs to open on the bookmarked location rather than the last visited one?

For example, I have YouTube as an App Tab. Every time I open firefox the last think I was watching on YouTube starts playing again. I would really like to set it so the App Tabs open on whatever page I originally set them for.

Just make sure that you open any new links in a new tab and not in the App tab.<br />
There are tab related extensions that can protect or lock tabs to prevent them from getting changed, but opening a link in a new tab with a middle-click or Ctrl + left-click isn't that much extra effort.

  • How can I move App Tabs to the bottom, where the other bookmark toolbars are? Or, how can I put my bookmark toolbars in two rows and forget the App Tabs?

I have several bookmarks on my toolbar, and my most often used ended up in a pull-down menu, which is annoying. I tried to click and drag them onto the menu bar, because there was room for more icons, but they won't budge. Nothing under "Toolbars" was helpful. Help would tell me to right click on my toolbar and then click on "Customize"...which didn't come up as an option. I would really like all my toolbar bookmarks (I only have about 10) to be visible on the actual toolbar, not hidden away in a small pulldown tab.
There is a plug-in that enables you to put bookmarks in two rows on your toolbars, but it is not compatible with my version of FF (7.0.1).
App Tabs are cute, but I don't like them on top where they take up room where I have the tabs for various websites open (I usually have several open at a time). App Tabs are fixed and don't scroll over like website tabs, which is extremely annoying, and hence why I 1)would like to move them to the bottom of the toolbar or 2)be able to display all my bookmarked toolbars --which is what I prefer.
    BTW, I have Windows 7.
Thanks in advance for your help.

App tabs are special tabs and are always displayed at the left end of the tab bar.
You can place all bookmarks that you want to see on the Bookmarks Toolbar in the Bookmarks Toolbar folder.<br />
You can do that in the side bar or the Bookmarks manager if you can't do it on the Bookmarks Toolbar.<br />
Most Visited is a special (smart) folder that shows websites that you've visited and that aren't necessarily bookmarks, so you can't drag them on the bookmarks toolbar unless you first bookmark them. You can do that by opening them in a tab and clicking the star on the location bar twice and choose the Bookmarks Toolbar as the destination folder.
