OPen Captivate 4 project in Captivate 5 fails and shuts down Captivate 5

I have a small project (6 slides) that was created using Captivate 4. When I attempt to open this in Captivate 5, I see the progress bar indicating that the slides are being upgraded to 5 and once that completes, I get an error message that it encountered an error and needs to close. I tried a couple other projects created in Captivate 4 and those open fine in 5.
I saved the text file created as a result of the error, but don't know what it is trying to tell me. I don't see an option here to attach the file.
I appreciate any assistance or direction you can provide.

Have you enabled disk mode on it?
Turn off all syncing if you can, then turn off disk mode if its on. Hit apply then try the restore again.
A really drastic step it to erase it using disk utility.
Then reopen iTunes and restore the iPod software from there.

Reboot and shut down scripts failed on open dialogue window

I have a headless server.
It is scheduled to shut down at 01.00 AM via the control panel.
I have a script (tested it works) to shut down the server should the control panel fail.

shut down
end tell
Should this fail for some reason there is a second script that tell the computer to reboot shortly before the control panel schedule should start the server.

Yesterday it failed to execute either script. ITunes had been running and checked for updates and found one. It was installed and this resulted in the dialogue box appearing that wants you to promise not to steal the code etc. No person there to click OK so it hung and cancelled all processes.
So this stopped the shut down as well as the reboot.
The reason I have this script is as to make sure the computer has no hanging programmes or windows and shuts down and fires up on the desired time.
Anybody knows how to make it force to quit the programme?
Or better would be (and my preference too) to have it check if such windows are open and OK them before shutting down.
I know this is only a one in thousand occurrence, but it would be nice to have it not happen again, this time I was there to fix it.

Your problem is not with the provided instructions; but, the version of 'Script Editor', SE, you use.
I use SE, v. 2.0 (43) from a 'Panther' (MacOS X 10.3.x) installation. This application version works on PPC Macs running 'Panther' and 'Tiger' (MacOS X 10.4.x), and Intel Macs running 'Tiger' and (dog crap) 'Leopard' (MacOS X 10.5.x). At least here.
The features and (intuitive) ease of use of SE v. 2.0 are superior to its equivalents of 'Tiger' and (dog crap) 'Leopard'. Besides allowing one to view the 'Description' textarea field of a 'Run Only' script, SE v. 2.0 allows one to select all of the 'Suites' titles in the left side list, click on the right side panel, and then search for any character, word, or string - such as 'a', 'is', 'the', 'reference', 'in MHz' - anything. Try such a search with SE v. 2.1 and v. 2.2.
Try this example:
Select SEs' 'Window, Library' menu item. A window titled 'Standard Additions.asdictionary' will appear.
From the 'Library' windows' list, double click on 'StandardAdditions'.
SE v. 2.0 only - Select all of the suites of the left side panel, then click once on the right side panel.
In the search field (SE v 2.1 and v. 2.2) or search window (SE v. 2.0) enter 'in MHz', and press the <return> key. Did SE v. 2.1 or 2.2 find it? SE v. 2.0 goes right to it; even highlighting the search string result.
As an exercise - waste your time looking for 'in MHz' in SE v. 2.1 and / or v. 2.2.
Hint 01: Search for 'system'. Now you have a one (1) in four (4) chance of locating the user desired string (of 'in MHz') by viewing the text of each listed result.
Hint 02: Try searching by 'Description' - click on the search 'magnifying glass' and a popup button of choices appears - click on the 'Description' menu item. Still, unlike with SE v. 2.0, SE v. 2.1 or v. 2.2 does not actually highlight the located character, word, or string.
Ok, you finally located the line of 'in MHz'; but now - you want to see all of the commands of the related 'Suite' - how do you do it? In SE v. 2.0 you may have to scroll up a little; but, in SE v. 2.1 and v. 2.2 ...

Leopard Failing to shut down

Intermittently, I have been getting this message when I try to shut down my Core2Duo Macbook running Leopard 10.5.1: "Logout has timed out because the application 'X' failed to quit. Try again, quit 'X' and choose Log Out from the Apple menu," where "X" is a random program (although most of the time it is Preview). The problem is is that "X" application is not open or is running when I look at the Console. When I open application "X," quit the application, then try to Shut Down, I get the same message but with a different application. These applications are not running when I look at the Activity Monitor. I haven't found what the cause is and it doesn't occur every time. I have noticed that it will do it when I've had a problem waking up my Macbook from sleep mode (it will give me a black screen after logging-in but will awake from sleep if I close my Macbook and try again).

It is likely that you are experiencing some conflicts.
The main conflicts are cache, permissions, fonts and login items.
If you did an upgrade of Leopard over Tiger you could have all 3.
The log seems to point to some cache problems.
So let's start with user cache.
In Finder click on Go>Home>Library and pull the Caches folder to the Trash.
Then click on the hard drive icon in the sidebar and double click on this Library and remove Caches here too.
Click on the apple>System Preferences>Accounts and unlock the lock.
Click on login items and remove all items from the window.
Then Go>Utilities>Disk Utility and select your hard drive volume then Verify Disk.
If the disk passes then Repair Disk Permissions.
Once any repairs are done, quit Disk Utility.
Click on Go>Applications>Font Book.
In Font Book choose All Fonts in the 1st column, then click into the second column.
Check for a black dot to the right of any of the fonts in the list in the second column.
If there are any dots the click on Edit>Select All.
Next Edit>Resolve Duplicates.
Next File>Validate Fonts.
Put a check mark in the box to the left of all fonts that shows problems and click on Remove Checked.
Next boot to the Leopard install disk >Utilities>Reset Password.
Click on your hard drive volume>home directory user name>Reset permissions and ACL's at the bottom.
Then restart your computer.
This will rebuild some Cache files so it will be slow on this startup.

Have you tried closing the Mail app completely and then re-opening it ? From the home screen double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Why Does Mac Book Pro fail to shut down?

I hope I am placing this in the correct place, as I have had enough difficulty finding where to "Post a Topic" Bought a new MacBook Pro with Leopard on 1/4/08. It fails to shut down, all I get is the spinning wheel (for want of a better word) until I am forced to press the shut off button. To date, In-store tech support has archived and re-installed, re-set the PRAM, and I don't know what's left! It seems that every time I do "something" i.e., backup, download photos, etc., even when I carefully close out the applications, and wait, the machine fails to shut down.
Does anyone out there have a solution to this problem? Is Apple working on this or are they taking the "it's you" attitude? Please advise and many thanks.

The "Genius Bar" at the Apple Store turned off the "Sync" to the iDisk. This has seemed to resolve the issue, however, MacBook Pro is not problem-free. Let me know if we "share" any other issues. Recently attempted to use Adobe Photoelements, by the way, after being told it was compatible with Leopard, IT IS NOT. So now I am going to try Aperture. Just thought I'd throw that in as "one of the other" issues! Thanks for responding to me!

I opened the cover (there where the battery is) and I cleaned the dust gently with a dry napkin ...remove the battery and placed it again ...closed the cover and when i turn on my macbook bro now it shows the Apple logo and after some seconds it just shuts down (i have OSX 10.9 Mavericks)....
I tried to boot in safe mode, also tried to repair it and even re-install Mavericks and so on, but I could not fix it. I did a hardware test and the no problems occurred.

We need clarification here.
Please don't just state version numbers, also state which software. iTunes 10.7 requires OSX 10.6.8 or higher. Leopard is OSX 10.5.8. You have two alternatives right now. One is to stay with Leopard for a while (ultimately you should upgrade) and install iTunes 10.6.3 which is the last version to work with Leopard. This should work with iOS6 on an iPhone4. The other is to call Apple and order OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and upgrade the computer to 10.6.8 which will allow you to run iTunes 10.7. The caveat is we know nothing about which computer you run and if it even can run any system higher than Leopard.

If you want to try upgrading:
Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About this Mac" and "More Info..." Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present). If it says something about Intel or Core Duo or Core 2 Duo in the processor you can upgrade to Snow Leopard (assuming you have sufficient RAM/"memory"). If it says PPC or PowerMac, you cannot.
