Open Default User Folder

Hi
I have created a Folder named UserDocs to which everyone has read access.
Under that Folder i have created UserA and UserB Folders.
Only UserA has access to userA Folder.
Only UserB has access to userB Folder.
Now i am using KM Navigation iview to show the documents in these folders to UserA and UserB.
When UserA accesses the iView he can see the Folder userA
When UserB accesses the iView he can see the Folder userB
As Users dont want to open their Folders and then see the documents, what i need is
when UserA access the iView he should directly see the Documents inside the
userA Folder.
when UserB access the iView he should directly see the Documents inside the
userB Folder.
Can we have a setting by which the Folder can be opened by default ?
Regards
Rajendra

Hello Rajendra,
The requirement you have mentioned is possible and I tried it out myself
I have the following folder hirarchy under KM
root/documents/Users Documents/
Under the Users Documents folder I have directories with the user name so if a user is ronald then the directory is named ronald.
After that I created a KM navigation iview with the following as the dir path  - /alias/documents/User Documents/<user.id>/ and it works.
Thanks,
GLM

  • DISABLE "open other users folder"

We need to find out how to STOP users from being able to open others folders through File/Open other users folder in Outlook 2010. We are on Exchange 2010 and this has become an issue. All we can find it how to do it, not how to stop it from being possible.
    HELP!!! Thanks!

    Hi,
We can also try to disable the open Other User's Folder button (Make it grayed out) so that user's can't click on it.
To do this, we can use Group Policy and Control IDs to do this. See:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179143(v=office.14).aspx
    http://www.slipstick.com/how-to-outlook/group-policy-disable-commands/
The Control ID used to disable Other User's Folder button is
    1863.
    Hope this helps.

  • Updating Phone Directory after moving users from default "users" folder

After moving any users from the default "users" folder in AD to a new OU the phone system no longer shows them in the Directory. How could I update the phone system after making changes to the AD structure?

You need to re-run the AD plugin.
And point User Search base to that new OU.

  • "Cannot open default user face" - KDE 4

After the upgrade to KDE 4, I notice this msg in errors.log and other logs:
"kdm_greet[3456]: Cannot open default user face".
Has anyone else seen this and know what may cause it? A search on the net shows that this error is supposed to be fixed in KDE 4.<something>, yet it appears here.
I also see this in kdm.log:
"kdmgreet(3455) KLocalePrivate::initEncoding: Cannot resolve system encoding, defaulting to ISO 8859-1.
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
    > Warning:          Type "ONE_LEVEL" has 1 levels, but <RALT> has 2 symbols
    >                   Ignoring extra symbols
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server"
I have a Radeon video card.
I wonder if any of these errors may be connected.

Don't worry about 'default user face', it's nothing... you can set it in:
SystemSettings -> Advanced -> Login Manager -> Users
    under 'User Images' [ bottom-right ].
I expect when installing you elected to install dhcp [ Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol ] when configuring the network ?
Dhcpcd is its' daemon. You could uninstall dhcp... pacman -R dhcp
I presume you have onboard ethernet and a pci network card ?
Could you disable your onboard ethernet in the systems BIOS ? Then you can concentrate on configuring your card. I've
never used 'wicd' so I can't help you there.
Not much help, I know but better than nothing

  • Edit Default User Killed Leopard Default User folder completely disapeared

I was trying to create a custom default user for network users to login to because I was learning how to set up a Mac for use as a campus public PC.
We do not have a Mac server but do have a Novell server set as Open directory. I was the first to figure out how to LDAP authenticate users.
The next step was to customize the default user template for network users to login into on the Mac. Then all went dead.
I copied in settings from the root user to the default user location and repaired permissions on the hard drive. I was following proceedures I found online the best I could. These:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2105869&tstart=0
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2056194&tstart=0
It seemed to be going well then I went to go to system preferences and
the OS slowed then froze and after a reset would not boot.
It would go to the gray Null sign circle with a line through several times and would try to boot other partitions.
A verbose boot said something about the Boot.efi being in some trashes folder.
I booted from a USB back up of the OS and searched for the folder that holds the default user profile and it was not there at all.
When trying to set a boot device it would no longer let me select the internal hard disk.
Any ideas? I am reinstalling the OS but does anyone know what happened? Was this a Mac virus, a hack attack, does repairing permissions as the root user cause destruction? Are there system boot files in the default user profile location?

Thanks for your reply those sound like good emergency aid procedures. I need to know more of those.
I did a full reinstall and tried the same procedure but they system is running well this time. My goal of a custom user profile for network users though still does not work. For this issue I will search other threads or start a new one.
Situation I can authenticate network users to LDAP on our Novell server. Our Novell server does not have mappings for Apple computers though so it is just basic authentication. I was able to script mapping of the appropriate volumes as a start up item in the doc.
The problem is after they authenticate through LDAP at the login screen they all get dumped into the root users profile and they have root user powers. Even after I disabled the root user.
I wanted them to use the custom default profile I made. I created a temp user called student customized it copied its profile to the default user profile location. If I create a new user in account preferences it uses that custom profile fine BUT network users always login as the / a root user.
I could use that because we want to lock down the harddrive with deepfreeze. BUT the novell iPrint program required for users to print does not work at all in this crazy Fake Root user environment.

  • How to set as default Users folder the one on the second Hard Disk?

I recently upgrade my macbook pro with a second hard drive, an SSD, so I placed the old one were the super drive used to be.
Yesterday I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion via clean install on the SSD.
So now I want to keep system files and apps on SSD and everything else  like songs, movies etc from the iTunes on the old hard drive, plus documents of mine.
On the old hard drive I deleted everything but the Users folder.
I tried to change the Home Directory from the Users and Groups in System Preferences but then it wouldn't let me log in in the cloud or in the MacApp Store and every time I tryed to open "Mail, contact & calendars" or "iCloud" from system preferences it crashes..
Any Solutions? Thank you very much for your time.

    - Create variables for variants: use transaction STVARV. You should create one variable for fiscal year with type 'parameter', one for period with type 'parameter', one for fiscal year 'select option' and one for period 'select option'.
    - when saving your variants for the different programs, fill the checkbox 'Selection variables' in the attributes for fiscal year and period; use the button 'selection variables' for choosing the variables created in STVARV.
    - When closing the period, you should use STVARV for changing the variables. All the variant using the variant variables will then automaticaly use the new value.

  • Data1.cab file too large in Default User folder...

We are experiencing an issue on our project where a file (Data1.cab) is created within the
Reader 9.1 and Reader 9.3 folders of the ...Default User\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe folder location.
These files are too large for our system and taking up unnecessary amounts of space on our hard drives (averaging 104 MB in size each). Every time a new user logs onto the system, their profile is created and these 104 mb Data1.cab files are created. We want to know how we can:
    a) automatically off-load these files to another location
    or
    b) change a setting that would not generate the Data1.cab files every time a new profile is created or at least reduce the size of the file significantly upon creation.
Any advice on the matter would be much appreciated.
    thanks,
    - Brian

Thank you for posting your insight on the matter.  However, we are looking to be a little bit more pro-active on the matter.  Is there a setting or an entry in the registry we can apply that stops the files from being created?  Or a sample batch file you've created to automatically delete the files upon creation?  Please respond at your leisure.
    thanks,
    - Brian

  • Mail Not Launching When Trying to Open from User Folder

Mail is not launching when I try to open it from within the home folder in my user folder. I have reported the problem to Apple.

    Any ideas why?

I do have a MS Intellipoint driver of some kind, what do you mean by "check for it"? Try a different mouse? If I uninstall the driver, will any mouse still work?
This might not have any effect on your Adobe programs, but earlier InteliPoint drivers have caused major issues with several Adobe programs. Going back a couple of years, MS did change the InteliPoint drivers, and all was good for about a year. Then, recently, a change was made, and other problems developed with Adobe programs. Most of these were noted in Adobe PrPro. I do not recall any here.
In those other cases, the users replaced the InteliPoint drivers with the generic mouse drivers, and the problems disappeared. Do not know if this will have any impact on your issue, but GUI problems have been cleared up with the replacement of the InteliPoint drivers.
All that I hope is that you will find a cure to this issue. I would be very nervous, should my Assets disappear from my Windows Explorer, or similar.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How do you change the default User in Windows 7 on a non-RAIDed 4 disk setup?

    Hi.
I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on Darling my new machine, which has a four-disk setup without RAID, like this:
    SSD OCZ -OS, Programs (C:)
    WD 2002FEAX - Media Projects (D:)
    WD 1002FAEX - Pagefile, Media Cache (E:)
    WD 1002FAEX - Previews, Exports (F:)
This setup, and because it’s unRAIDed (four separate disks), created the User file in the OS disk, right under the Programs (x86) folder, which at times causes files, which are not programs, to automatically be saved in the User file that's in the Programs disk, when in fact Programs disk is NOT meant for storage.
Further, I cannot save stuff in My Documents because that directory leads the files (that I am saving) to the User folder in the OS disk, forcing me to navigate out of there and into an alternative disk, which is time consuming, more so than if i had a directory leading to D disk.
So, I am wondering, can anyone help me change my directory to establish the default User folder in any folder other than C?
Or, if can someone refer me to Windows 7 tutorials, resourses, that are a tad more than Dummy level.
I have heard that changing around the directory as such can mess with the OS, and though not at Dummy level, I’m quite new to PC and profusely insecure about making changes to Darling at all.
    Thanks.

    Hi folks.
I would like to update you about what happened regarding my wish to move the User location to another hard disk. Heeding your warning, i did NOT attempt that, but rather, moved the location of the My Documents folder in my Library, from its default place on (SSD) disk C:/ (which is the default location because that's where i installed Windows 7,) to another disk -  D:/ called "Media Projects".
Here is how my directory looked before i made the change, my three hard disks were outside the Library directory that's on my SSD (Programs disk):
(I did that by right-clicking the My Documents folder in the left column of a browser window, to access the Location tab.)
What this did is, it put driver D:/ under Documents, which is under Library, see picture, which now enables saving documents quickly, by going from my Library directly to my D drive, however it eliminated the "My Documents" folder/possibility all together from the left-column list of folders in the Windows Explorer browser pane.
I am now trying to do the same with Music, Pictures, and Videos, i.e. to move them to D drive, but am unable to do so because right-clicking those icons in the directory does not produce the Location tab in Properties panel, and nor does right-clicking inside the files themselves.
Similarly, right-clicking Downloads, which i also want to have residing in my D drive, does NOT produce a Location tab in properties pane, though it does seem possible to change the directory manually...see picture.....but am wary....
I am still monitoring my new system, and will see if and how this change effects my system's performance.
    Thanks.

  • 'log' file in user folder

I just opened my "User" folder in the finder and noticed there is a random file in there named 'log'.
When i open it in textedit, there is just one line of text: "cp_plugin_dir:/Users/Mitchell/Library/Internet Plug-Ins"
What is this file and is it safe to delete?
    Thanks

I don't know what caused it but it only a (misplaced) log file so you can safely delete it.  Of course whatever caused it (a poorly written internet plugin installer?) may create it again so the mystery of the cause remains.  Keep an eye out for it and maybe you can associate some action you do with its reappearance.

  • Migration Assistant 90 GB from PowerPC to Intel user folder

This at first seems like it will only take 3 hours. Next thing I know I come back an hour later, it tells me 20 hours. I've verified the directory, even restored the original software on the Intel Mac, and use a dummy folder as my default user folder on the Intel Mac. Are the estimates realistic, or should I just let the machine spend the better part of a couple days trying to transfer if I have that much data?
I've turned off Energy Saver, Screen Saver, and use Macbrightness to dim the display so there won't be too much burn in.

Anything in your Library folders. All your PowerPC applications if you overwrite those pre-installed on the Intel machine with those from your PPC machine. Any plug-ins, preference panes, contextual menu items, startup items, etc. If you overwrite Intel items with PPC items then they may not work at all or will cause the system to run very slowly.
I really don't know what happens if you do an Archive and Install of an Intel system that's been partially altered with PPC components. I don't know if the applications will be replaced or simply transferred. I've only done them on same version/hardware machines.
If you've migrated "everything" including applications then all the Intel software will be replaced by PPC software. Not a desired outcome. I always recommend not using Migration Assistant and simply transferring only personal files and data plus certain support files and preferences that will not affect the Intel system. Migration Assistant is convenient but it's better used when you are moving across machines that have the same OS X version installed and the hardware is the same (PPC or Intel.)

  • Open default folder or folder level in DTN

Hi, I see lots of older references to not being able to default a specific level of the DTN to open.  Is it possible now to default a folder or level to open in the Detailed DTN or is is always just defaulted to closed and special development is required?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
Edited by: Kenneth Murray on Mar 26, 2008 7:53 AM

When the users enter the portal their left hand nav is totally collapsed (closed).  I would at least like to have the 1st level of the DTN expanded (open) if it's possible.  Seems kind of annoying that you have to open it up each time you go into the portal.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Time Machine defaults to User folder

    I'm using OSX Mavericks 10.9.5
Whenever I enter Time Machine, my User folder opens instead of the the folder I currently have open. I then have to navigate back to the folder I want to work with.
In 10.8.x the default behaviour was that Time Machine opened to whatever folder was currently in front (open).
Is there a preference or a terminal command to restore this as a default to Mavericks?

When I open the 2 TB hard drive used exclusively for Time Machine backups, there are only folders, each with a time stamp title. When the latest folder and its alias were deleted, all was well.
