Open directory error 4001 occurred

When trying to add a new user I get an error message of:
"User creation failed
The server reported the error 'Open Directory error 4001 occurred' while trying to create the user."
I can find nothing about this error and what it means. I've Googled and searched the Snow Leopard server documentation.
This is a recent, clean install of Snow Leopard server (installed about a week ago) with all updates so it is now running 10.6.1. I had no problem adding 7 other accounts on days 1 and 2 after the install, but now cannot add another.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Not sure what happened, but I rebooted the server and now everything appears to be working again.
I'm wondering if this problem was caused by changes I made to the DNS server (also running on this server)? Maybe Open Directory cannot handle certain DNS changes without restarting?

  • Active Directory Error 0x51 occurred when trying to check the suitability of server ' servername '. Error: 'Active directory response: The LDAP server is unavailable'. It was running the command 'Get-OwaVirtualDirectory'.

This issue is driving us nuts - there are no issues with Domain Controllers or AD in this environment.  The server it is citing in the error has been retired - it was gracefully dcpromo'ed down and removed from the environment.  DNS has no record of it, nor is it located anywhere else.  We are not able to log into Outlook Web App either with authentication failed errors - and I can't help but expect these 2 issues are related?  I tried hard coding the Configuration Domain Controller at the org level, as well as using the -staticdomaincontrollers and -staticglobalcatalogservers with the "Set-ExchangeServer" powershell command - no luck....  System settings of the exchange 2010 servers show they are pointing to the correct DCs - but I still get this error accompanied with long delays in rendering windows in EMC.  Extremely frustrating.....  I have an issue logged with MS now, but they aren't looking at them until Nov 9.  Has anyone seen this issue at all?  More info on the OWA config - using Form based auth, and I'm not able to perform a simple test-owaconnectivity -mailboxcredential (get-credential\username) -allowuntrustedcertificate -allowinsecurelogon - please help

Create a "global catalog" on the 2nd domain contoller, will fix this problem.
To create a new global catalog:
On the domain controller where you want the new global catalog, start the Active Directory Sites and Services snap-in. To start the snap-in, click Start , point to Programs , point to Administrative Tools , and then click Active Directory Sites and Services .
    In the console tree, double-click Sites , and then double-click <var>sitename</var> .
Double-click Servers , click your domain controller, right-click NTDS Settings , and then click Properties .
On the General tab, click to select the Global catalog check box to assign the role of global catalog to this server.
    Restart the domain controller.

  • What does this open directory error mean?

I am seeing this error in my opendirectory log file and was wondering what it means since I don't use a network to get user information. I am the only one using this mac so I am curious about this and how do I fix it?

The message you quote is part of the "template walkback" in the compiler message. A program might create many instances of a template, including creating them indirectly as part of creating an instance of some other template. An error or warning message about a template is hard to understand unless you know how it came about. So when a compiler emits a warning or error message related to a template instance, it follows the message with "Where" messages showing the sequence of template instances that led to the error. The "Where" line by itself doesn't tell you anything. You need to relate it to the warning or error message that comes before.
The C++ User's Guide that comes with the compiler has chapters on templates that explains this topic in more detail. Assuming the compiler is installed in /opt/SUNWspro, point your web browser to file:/opt/SUNWspro/docs/index.html and look for the link to the C++ User's Guide.

  • Getting `No such file or directory` error while trying to open bdb database

I have four multi-threaded processes (2 writer and 2 reader processes), which make use of Berkeley DB transactional data store. I have multiple environments and the associated database files and log files are located in separate directories (please refer to the DB_CONFIG below). When all these four processes start to perform open and close of databases in the environments very quickly, one of the reader process is throwing a No such file or directory error even though the file actually exists.
I am making use of Berkeley DB 4.7.25 for testing out these applications.
The four application names are as follows:
    Writer 1
    Writer 2
    Reader 1
    Reader 2
The application description is as follows:
&lsquo;*Writer 1*&rsquo; owns 8 environments and each environment having 123 Berkeley databases created using HASH access method. At any point of time, &lsquo;*Writer 1*&rsquo; will be acting on 24 database files across 8 environments (3 database files per environment) for carrying out write operation. Where as reader process will be accessing all 123 database files / per environment (Total = 123 * 8 environments = 984 database files) for read activities. Similar configuration for Writer 2 as well &ndash; 8 separate environments and so on.
Writer 1, Reader 1 and Reader 2 processes share the environments created by Writer 1
Writer 2 and Reader 2 processes share the environments created by Writer 2
My DB_CONFIG file is configured as follows
    set_cachesize 0 104857600 1   # 100 MB
    set_lg_bsize 2097152                # 2 MB
    set_data_dir ../../vol1/data/
    set_lg_dir ../../vol31/logs/SUBID/
    set_lk_max_locks 1500
    set_lk_max_lockers 1500
    set_lk_max_objects 1500
    set_flags db_auto_commit
    set_tx_max 200
    mutex_set_increment 7500
Has anyone come across this problem before or is it something to do with the configuration?

    Hi Michael,
I should have included about how we are making use of DB_TRUNCATE flag in my previous reply itself. Sorry for that.
From writers, DB truncation happens periodically. During truncate (DB handle is not associated with any environment handle i.e. stand-alone DB
) following parameters are passed to db-&gt;open function call:
    DB-&gt;open(DB *db,
    DB_TXN *txnid,          =&gt; NULL
const char *file,          =&gt; file name (absolute DB file path)
    const char *database,  =&gt; NULL
    DBTYPE type, =&gt; DB_HASH
    u_int32_t flags, =&gt; DB_READ_UNCOMMITTED | DB_TRUNCATE | DB_CREATE | DB_THREAD
    int mode); =&gt; 0
    Also, DB_DUP flag is set.
As you have rightly pointed out, `No such file or directory` is occuring during truncation.
While a database is being truncated it will not be found by others trying to open it. We simulated this by stopping the writer process (responsible for truncation) and by opening & closing the databases repeatedly via readers. The reader process did not crash. When readers and writers were run simultaneously, we got `No such file or directory` error. Is there any solution to tackle this problem (because in our case writers and readers are run independently. So readers won't come to know about truncation from writers)?
Also, we are facing one more issue related to DB_TRUNCATE. Consider the following scenario:
<ul><li>Reader process holds reference of database (X) handle in environment 'Y' at time t1
    </li>
    <li>Writer process opens the database (X) in DB_TRUNCATE mode at time t2 (where t2 &gt; t1)</li>
<li>After truncation, writer process closes the database and joins the environment 'Y'</li>
<li>After this any writes to database X is not visible to the reader process</li>
<li>Once reader process closes the database X and re-joins the environment, all the records inserted from writer process are visible</li>
    </ul>
Is it the right behavior? If yes, how to make any writes visible to a reader process without closing and re-opening the database in the above-mentioned scenario?
Also, when [db_set_errfile|http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/api_c/db_set_errfile.html] was set, we did not get any additional information in the error file.
    Thanks,
    Magesh

  • Error 7 occurred at Open VI Reference with Application Builder

Using Labview 5.1, I am building an application where all the vi's are placed in a single .LLB file. I have one top level vi (with sub-vi's), and one vi that is opened by the Open VI command. The program runs fine with labview installed. I want to make an executable file. I select the top level vi and select the vi that is opened by the Open VI command as a dynamically loaded file. I get an error when I attempt to build the file.
"Error 7 occured at Open VI Reference in Dist Build LLB Image.vi -> Dist Build App Image.vi -> Build application.vi"

    Dear Sir;
There are two things that are good to try:
First, create the application in a folder that is closer to the root directory (e.g., c:\myApp). There is a limit to the length (or depth) of the path name to your application's target directory, so, if you are choosing a too long path you might get an error.
Second: The Application Builder reads certain information from the VI in order to determine how to build the executable. To avoid possible errors, either in the build process or in the built executable, make sure the VIs are LabVIEW 5.1 VIs. You can convert your VIs to LabVIEW 5.1 VIs by using the Mass Compile feature (File >> Mass Compile) in LabVIEW before you build your executable. The Mass Compile feature will allow you to select either a directory or a LabVIEW
    .llb file to compile.

  • Error 7 occurred at Open File+.vi:Open File,NI-488: Nonexistent GPIB interface

I did some clean-up of my computer and have been having issues ever since.
I'm not the one that did the programming; the person who did is long gone.
The VI loads fine but when I hit run I get:
Error 7 occurred at Open File+.vipen File
LabVIEW:  File not found. The file might have been moved or deleted, or the file path might be incorrectly formatted for the operating system. For example, use \ as path separators on Windows, : on Mac OS, and / on Linux. Verify that the path is correct using the command prompt or file explorer.
    =========================
    NI-488:  Nonexistent GPIB interface.
All the necessary VIs are available and I've tried changing all the file calls in the VIs to the new locations but the error is the same.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Error 7 is a generic file not found.  If it is happening after cleaning up files, more than likely you moved some subVIs called in a main VI to a new location on your computer.  If all the VIs are in a project, a possible solution would be to remove the vis in the project directory and add them back to the project as they may be pointing to a previous location where the files were once stored.  Perhaps this is what Anon123123123 meant by "linking".  Hope this helps.

  • Open Directory Setup Error

I attempted to set up the Open Directory on Lion Server.  I entered all the information and clicked the Setup button.  It said it had an error while setting it up and that I should restart the Server to fix it.  I did that and now when I go to connect, I get the message "An error occurred while attempting to bind diradmin to 192.168.1.90.  Please try again."  Now what?  Is there a way to clear the settings and start over?  Mac Mini - Server 10.7.2.

I just encountered this error.  "An error occurred while attempting to bind diradmin to ' and the my local IP address.
What fixed it for me was to set the IP address to 127.0.0.1 (which means the current machine) rather than the current machine's actual IP address.  Of course it should be the same thing, but it seems to be picky!

  • Open Directory setState error

  • Open Directory startup error

    Hi,
    10.8.2 / Server 2.2
Attempting to turn Open Directory fails with the message:
An error occurred on the server while processing a command.
The error occurred while processing a command of type 'setState' in plug-in 'servermgr_dirserv'
    How can I resolve this?
    Thanks.

Thanks for replying. It's a new install, and it worked for about 2 days before it stopped working. I'm not sure what changes I made to break OD.
I'm probably not knowlegable enough to understand the log file, even if I knew where to look. Apple did position this as "server for the rest of us" with a low price, so I'm using it to learn. And since I'm using this to learn, I don't mind starting over. But as far as I can see I see no option of creating a new master database, only a replicate record.
    Again, thanks for replying.
