Hi All,
we are unable to open .Doc/.rtf Type file it in a browser .we are using web.show_document.
in button code

for PDF/JPEG/TIF/TXT/GIF type files above code working fine

it is not working fine . it seems that a browser is opened but closes automatially.
The reson might be that the MS OFF is not installed on the Application Server/Client Side. Could it be the reson ?
But if i directaly use it as an URL in I.E then a dialog box appears to open the file and it is working fine.

Today I find that I can not paste or move text within Pages.
I updated everything yesterday and still no luck.

The first discussion's solution is to delete/reinstall/update iWork. The second is to edit the underlying code within the document and remove any Unicode characters.
I recommend you go with solution no. 1. Use Yvan Koenig's script to delete iWork completely (see below), then reinstall and update iWork before attempting to open a Word document. Then let us know how you went.

Opening .doc and .docx files in Pages

I've been trying to make pages a default application to open .doc and .docx files instead of Textedit, but couldn't find a way?

Select a document in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, specify Pages under Open With, click on Change All, and confirm this action.

First i'll explain what i did.
I've Thinapped Office 2010 Professional Plus SP2 with an Internet Explorer entry point. (Thinapp version 4.7.3)
Made some changes in the registry so .doc and .docx files will open in the virtual IE browser.
Here are my changes made to the registry:

Now i have this problem:
When opening a .doc or .docx file in the browser a ' download bar' appears.
My document opens in the browser as expected but, at the same time an empty grey Word window appears at the background.
The grey window shows not all the time when opening a .docx or .doc file , this is whats so strange about it.
Sometimes when i open the .doc or .docx file it opens without the grey empty word window. It seems like it's happening randomly.
I also tested it out with .xlsx files (Excel) but this go's all well.
Before i forget, this all runs on a Windows 7 Enterprise environment.
Does anyone know what causes my problem, or can anyone help me?

Post Lion/Unable to open .doc or .docx files from MS Word!! Ideas??

In Snow Leopard Pages (iWork '09) version 4 worked fine opening existing .doc and .docx files. Recently installed Lion and tonight needed to open a Word document. No joy. I can open as a PREVIEW but not as an editable Pages document. As a work-around, I can copy/paste PREVIEW to a new Pages document, edit and save as Word to ship back to fellow collaborator. VERY UNFRIENDLY "feature"!!!!!

Unable to open Doc to Go files after Hotsynch

Switched to new laptop with Vista 32 bit. I successfully installed what I need for my TX (I think it is Palm 6.2; I went to palm.com and downloaded the software for a newer version) as far as Contacts, Calendar, etc. I registered for a trial of DataViz for my files. Sent my Word files to Docs to Go. They were displayed in the window. Hotsynched. The files on my Palm cannot be opened. The message us: Application Missing. "The application to open this document cannot be found".
Went to Dataviz and searched for a solution. Downloaded what I thought would correct the problem These files were sent to the Install Tool. I Hotsynched, but I do not think that they were sent to my Palm, because when I open the Applications on my Palm and look under "info", I cannot find the files. I did search the forum here, but really could not find the solution.
I probably need to uninstall DataViz and then reinstall? I guess that I am unsure how to proceed. My Contacts, Calendar are synching successfully.
I depend on my Palm for portable files; is there another application besides DataViz for this? I fully intend to purchase the DataViz if I am just able to get it to work.
I am not very computer literate, so any help will need to be dumbed-down. Thanks!

WyreNut: I purchased the DataViz software. I deleted it from my laptop first. Download completed without problem. At the point it asked me to synch with the TX, I completed this step, but received an error message in the Log: "Documents to Go unable to synchronize with the handheld device because a previous version exists on the handheld". I Went to Applications on the TX, selected from the upper left corner drop down choices, clicked "Delete" and went through the list and found one file that was DataViz. I deleted this file. I downloaded and synched again with the same results. I cannot find any DataViz file on my TX. On the opening screen, I cannot even open Documents when I click on that choice. I do not even know how to find the files on the TX. I know that I did not uninstall the previous, older version of DataViz before I started this whole process. Do you think that I will have to do a hard reset? Is it possible that I have corrupted files on the TX?

Opening .doc and .xls files

Have been able to open most .doc and .xls attachments up till now.
Had trouble and now can't (.doc files will open in textEdit). Reloaded AW but all that happens is that when I click on the open button the list of files disappears. I am not even told that it cannot open the file.

My guess as to why you have been able to open these until recently is that the files you received were not saved with updated versions of Word & Excel. Until earlier this year I was able to open both PC & Mac versions with AppleWorks. PC versions were the first to not open but if I re-saved them with Office: Mac I could open them. Then, after a couple of Office: Mac updates, I can no longer open them. NeoOffice is a reasonable alternative.

It seems to me that you are using a device running Android KitKat? Is that the case? Android KitKat has placed some restrictions on third party applications from modifying the content. Please read this for more details: KitKat and SD cards — what's fixed, what's broken and what's misunderstood | Android Central.
In the previous versions of the application, a local copy was saved whenever any edits( e.g. adding comments such underline, highlight, freeform, note etc) where made. In the current version of Acrobat DC, if you open a file from the floating action button, it prompts you to make a local copy first so that if any edits are made to the document, they can be saved back. If this behaviour is not acceptable to you and you would like to have the earlier behaviour, you can open the file directly from the SD card using a third party file manager application rather than from the Floating action button. In this case, you will not be asked to create a copy while opening the file but will be prompted for the same if you make any edits to the document.

Can I associate WINE apps to open MS Office type files in Gnome3?

I am stuck, well, I think getting closer. I just bought a second hand PC 2 weeks ago. I have a Archlinux setup on it with Gnome 3 (fallback mode) and got it looking a lot like Windows7 so the family don't complain its no good..
I have everything working nicely, MS Word, Excel & Powerpoint inside Playonlinux and have my shortcuts on Desktop, etc.. for kids' homework assignments. I edited my menus with Alacarte and generally its all looking good. I figured out the necessary usbpl module quirks to get my 2 USB printers working on it as well.
I am really stuck with file associations. I have been reading the Archwiki article on Xdg-open and I now have the following ~/.local/share/applications/defaults.list file

I look in Chromium Downloads or Thunar file manager and click on the .docx .xlsx and .pptx files. I am able to get the programs to open but unfortunately not the filename I am clicking on, much less when the filenames contain spaces in them. At the moment it simply opens the program (which is a great start). but I am sure I should be able to get the clicked filename to open too.
Has anyone successfully done this? What about for files with spaces in the name?

Opening .doc and .docx files ( from Microsoft Word ) in Pages '09

I am running Pages '09 on a 2 gHz Intel Core Duo iMac running OSX10.6.8 (the latest version of Snow Leopard as far as I'm aware). I regularly receive attachments from friends and from work that have these suffixes but inspite of using Get Info and then nominating Pages as the software to open these files with, it keeps saying "The document blah blah blah couldn't be opened"

If you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

On android device samsung galaxy adobe wont open doc or docx files. On iOS it does.

Is it possible to open up an excel file inside a Web Browser not IE?

I'm trying to find out if it is possible to open up a pivot excel file inside the a web browser, but i don't want to use Internet Explorer for that i'd prefer firefox for that.
I have a web application that uses an excel file for one of its reports but i don't want the user to have to download the file in order to view the report and that particular report has various ordering criteria so i don't want any of the funtionality of the file to be lost in the process, so is it possible to do it? what tools would help me acomplish that?

I don't think this is possible.
You may be able to make it display in Firefox if the file is defined as the XML Excel format and not the xls or xlsx formats. But that would require saving the file differently and you would most likely loose all/most functionality
You may find some Excel translators in Java (most notably POI from Apache). But they would still require you to adapt them to web format and you would have to duplicate much of the Excel functionality yourself. So it would be a long term option.
You could check out Google Docs. They have a spreadsheet application that I believe can convert Excel files to their format. You may be able to use it inside your web site with permissions.

It is working for the moment, but we are preparing the rollout of Windows7 for our clients.
We decided to eliminate "hard" entries and to use the system/user variables, defined in Windows
for example %temp%.
I tied to add this in DC20, but then a folder "%temp%" was created in the SapWorkDir when i
viewed a tif in CV04N !!!
Is there a way to use these system variables?
I seems that if i let the field empty in DC20, the path of the variable %temp% will be used, but
i am not totally sure what might happen or if there will be any side effects in the future.
Also i found information that there may be problems with layers in the EAI viewer.
All tests up to now were positive, but maybe you can give us a better statement.

Can not open oracle 10g OracleXE file

I have tried to open the OracleXE and was unable to. I have windows XP and it says that it can not open a mime type file. Is there another format that will work?

Your browser may be helping a bit too much, check the file name extension.
Try using Windows Explore, locate the downloaded file and ensure you've got the .exe file, for 10g size should be about 210MB, something like that.
Turning off the "Hide Extensions for known file types" option can be helpful (under Tools/Folder Options/View tab).
And there are forums for specifically for XE, {forum:id=251} and {forum:id=1378}
