Open enclosing group when selecting a layer?

Hello,
In Photoshop when I cmd+click a layer the enclosing group is opened and the clicked layer is highlighted.
However, in Fireworks the group does not get opened, but just highlighted.
Here is what happens in Photoshop:

Is it possible to achieve the same behaviour in Fireworks?

If your mouse is more closely related to an object than a group, in the canvas, that's what gets selected.
You are clicking directly on an object, so of course that's what gets selected. That's what should be selected. Select outside those objects and you'll probably get the group. But there are other groups there, also. Motion isn't psychic. No app is.
Select the group in the layers pane, very simple.

Messages opens multiple windows when selecting it from notifications

I notice that when I click on a new arrival message (iMessage) from notifications popup it will open 4 seperate windows and I can't reply until I close out 3 of the windows. Anyone else seeing this?

So you have Messages App open.
However you have also closed (used the red Blob) the main Messages window so that you cannot see any current conversation.
You have the Notification Centre set to Notify on Messages and it does so for incoming iMessages.
At this point you say it opens 4 windows when you click the Notification.
Can you tell what what 4 windows ?
It should only be the Messages main window (Chat window/Interface)
I tried to test this using one of my own iPhones
I picked the one with the same Apple ID and it turned up like synce (no Notification, no sound alert)
I changed iPhone to one that does not use the same Apple ID
I got Notifications and sound but clicking the Notification does not open the main Messages window (I did still have my Buddy Lists on view).

When I click "File" and then "New" it keeps opening a new file as a layer and not a background. RGB is selected as the mode.

With new files opening as a layer and not a background I'm not able to create multiple layers and it wont let me convert the layer to the background.

Yes. You are using the Ellipse Tool's Pixel option. So it is laying down pixels as it is supposed to do without creating a layer.
Choose the Shape option:
Also Layer menu > New Layer creates layers and the curled paper at the bottom of your Layers palette also creates a New Layer. I hope those work.

When you select a "group", it automatically selects everyone in that group.
If your just trying to add other people outside that group, then in the "To" make sure the curser is just after the last entry and you can hold your finger on that line to get your contact list to pop up or after the last entry you should have showing after that ;
Example: [email protected]; [email protected]; *notice the ; then a space for the next one

(Layers Palette) When selected, layer is highlighted in grey, not blue.

When I select a layer, it is highlighted in grey (in the layers palette) and I am unable to edit it. My current process for making a layer editable is as follows:
Select layer (highlighted in grey)
Double click layer (opens "Layer Styles" dialogue box)
Close "Layer Styles" dialogue box
Layer is now highlighted in blue and can be edited.
I am currently running Photoshop CS5.1 on a windows machine which is using Windows 7.

Did you try to reset your preferences by holding CTRL+ALT+Shift as soon as your start Photoshop?

Make sure you close iTunes before shutdown. And you're quite welcome.

I would like to know if there is a setting i can change that will use the current tab i'm on when opening a group of links in tabs.

Until i upgraded to firefox 8, when i opened a group of tabs (right click on a folder of bookmarks and open all in tabs option), it would use the current tab to as the first of the links and open the rest to the right of that tab. Now that has changed. I don't mind except for not using the tab i'm on. That is somewhat annoying, especially if that is how i browse most of the time. As the first thing i do is open a group of tabs when i start firefox, the first tab has to be closed manually as it did not before and this is annoying to me.

When Safari launches, tap in the address field (the one on the left) and type "www.google.com" then hit the "Go" button.
After the page finishes loading, hit the "Action" button (the middle button on the bottom button bar that looks like an arrow coming out of a rectangle) and select "Add to Bookmarks" to add the Google page to your bookmarks.
After that, you can hit the Bookmarks button (the button that looks like an open book in the bottom button bar) to access the Google bookmark you just created.

As i said, you have to use paragraph type if you want to use the justification options, not point type. And no, that's not how the Paragraph panel should look like.

Thanks for replying.
I have resolved this issue, actually on opening target group it was giving BSP
error because profile and target group were not getting saved.
Sap Note 1591375 has to be implemented to solve this issue.

I am using iphoto 6.0.6 and after opening the application it drops below the dock. I can see it when I use expose to reveal all open windows but once selected it drops below the dock.

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

Organizer shows all thumbnails when opening, but if one selected it opens on that when re-opened???

The two books I have neithor offererend an explanation of how to get back to all thumbnails instead of the last one shown before closing.

Are you saying that if you double click an image in Organizer (so that Organizer now shows single image) and re-launch it you are shown only one image (which was doble clicked last time)? If that is so, then it as as designed that is Organizer remembers your settings from last session. To see all your thumbnails you can click on arrow back button on top left hand corner in PSE10 or earlier (in PSE11 you have 'back' button shown on sort by bar). Please let me know if I missed something.

It would appear that you are destined for the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum since your question is related to Photoshop Elements and not Premiere Elements which is the focus program where you have posted.
But, while the arrangements are being made, here are a few things for you to think about if you have not already
1. Reset Tools - Select Brush Tool, then
2. Delete Settings File
Go to Full Editor/Edit Menu/Preferences/General and click on the option "Reset Preferences on Next Launch".

Try to keep accordion panel open when selected

Hello,
Could someone help me find the code to "keep the selected panel open" instead of having them closed on each pages.
There is 2 spry collapsed panels. Within the first one there is 1 Spry Accordion with 5 panels which need to stay open when selected.

Forget about the tutorial by David Powers. There is an easier way to achieve what you want.
If I understand right, you want the about panel to be open when on the about page and the homw panel when you are on the home page. Simply set the default panel for each page as follows
For the Home page
