Open failed! Couldn´t open moschipUsbEthernet.pkg"

My current operating system is OS X 10.4.6 on an old Intel MacBook. The network card does not work, and due to this a bought a USB->RJ45 dongle. The driver was downloaded from my other Mac, and is working perfect on that one (Os X 10.6.8), the file is not corrupt, because i have tried downloading it serval times. I have also tried to open the file with "Applications/Ulitities/Installer" but with no sucess.
There had not been installed any updates for OS, because I am not able to get the computer on internet. Any suggestion? Thanks.

If I was doing this I would:
1) Check who the owner is on the folder you can't open.  It is probably benign but I still like to know. It may be System or something which would be okay.
2) Make a bootable clone backup of my computer before experimenting so I could always restore if things go bananas.
3) Put the items in the same folders on the computer as they are on the drive. repair permissions. Boot and keep fingers crossed.  Cross fingers on other hand too and try using the dongle.

    Student_245,
are you certain that you’ve completely downloaded the .pkg file — that the download didn’t end prematurely?

  • Trying to open a .pkg file

I'm trying to open a .pkg file but it won't open and I don't have the apple installer. Where can I find it, or are there any other solutions?

The latest pkg files are compressed and you need Pacifist to view their contents. If you don't have the installer app, you have a hosed installation and should reinstall the OS. The installer app resides in /System/Library/CoreServices/.

  • How can I open HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.pkg?

I have an iMac running  Lion OSX 10.8.5 with a USB connected HP Officejet printer.  I had a problem with the scanner not responding so I deleted the HP printer.  BIG mistake.  Now despite downloading the HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.pkg from apple support I cannot open the file.  The printer does not show up automatically despite turning it off and on and changing the USB port.  I have been to several help sites and tried everything to no avail.  Since the printer worked earlier today I don't think it's hardware.

Thanks but that doesen't work.  I down loadded and it show up under devices.  When I try to open it, I am asked if I want to install it.  If I say yest it does the whole thing all over again. Mac doesn't appear to know what to do with  .pgk files.

  • I can't open my .pkg files

Well my problem is simple. I have an Intel iMac and i bought Toast Titanium.... Well... i accidentally set my .PKG or packages file to open all the files which is a problem because that means now i cannot open programs that people had made and i cannot install any apps at all... i want a way for my .pkg to open back with finder or watever the application it uses.

.pkg files are normally opened with the Installer.app which is located in Applications/Utilities. To reset Installer to be the default app for .pkg files, highlight a .pkg file from a Finder window and choose Get Info from the Finder menu. In the Get Info window go to the Open with pane and select Installer from the pull-down menu. If it isn't offered as one of the apps to Open .pkg files, select Other and browse to its location at Applications/Utilities to select it. After Installer is the chosen app press the Change All button to make Installer the permanent default app to open .pkg files.

  • Installer won't open a pkg file

I have just purchased wirless USB kit for an old iMac G3 and am having difficulty installing the software. When I double click on the pkg file, Installer launches but no screen appears. I verified with the Information command that the file expects to be opened by Installer 1.2. What should I try? Could it be that the pkg file is damaged or are there some obscure options I need to configure for Installer?

    Hi Richard,
When this failure to open a package has happened to me, it has usually been because the package contents wee not compatible with the version of OSX I was running.
Check the system requirements for this package. You may have to upgrade from 10.1 to install this.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot open mpkg/pkg files

When I first bought my Macbook Pro, I was able to open files with the extension of mpkg/pkg.
For example the firmware updates I download from the mac website is a .pkg file and when I click it it just says that there is no default application specified to open the document. This goes same for the mpkg files.
I wonder if it is something I have deleted accidentally or is it something else.
I would be grateful if anyone could help me solve this case.

These are Installer files. There have been reports of Safari 3 beta installations damaging the Installer applicaiton.
Look in your Utilities folder (Apple-Shift-U) - is there an app named Installer? If not, you can actually find the application on your Install DVD 1 and just copy it to the Utilities folder on your HDD.
    Hope this helps...

    Hi Vien,
    Have you checked Martina's suggestion?
If the issue persists, I would like to clarify the following things for further research:
    1. Please check if there exists DAG in your Exchange 2013.
    2. Please check if the directory 'D:\Logs\DB01' exists.
What's more, I recommend you to use the ESEUTIL/mh cmdlet to check the database status when you create a database.
Hope it helps. If there are any problems, please feel free to let me know.

Please read this whole message carefully, especially the warnings, before doing anything.
The changes to your configuration suggested here should be considered provisional; they may not solve your problem, or they may remove functionality that you find useful. If a third-party system modification that you want to keep is causing the problem, seek help from its developer.
WARNING: Back up all data now if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to its present state, even if it becomes unbootable. If you’re not sure you can do that, STOP — DON’T CHANGE ANYTHING. If you’re dissatisfied with the results of the procedure suggested below, restore from your backup. I will not be responsible for the consequences, and I will not help, if you ignore this warning.
You should either remove or update the following system modification(s), if an update is available from the developer:
    N/A
and definitely remove at least the following:
    † Aobo Filter
    † REFOG
    † SIMBL
    † Vodafone software (incomplete)
Whatever you remove must be removed completely, and (unless otherwise specified in this message) the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the third-party developer, or to follow his instructions. In some cases it may be necessary to re-download or even reinstall the software in order to get rid of it. I can't be more specific, because I don't install such things myself. Please do your own research.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, email the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
Again, please don't ask me to do this research for you. You can do it better than I can, because I haven't installed the product and I may not even know what it is.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of the Mac OS. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
WARNING: Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse.
I recommend that you never reinstall the modifications marked with a dagger (†) above, if any. If your problem is resolved after uninstalling all the above modifications and rebooting, but you still want to use some of those not marked with a dagger, you can experiment with putting them back, one at a time, testing carefully after each step. Keep in mind that system modifications may be incompatible with each other or with future Mac OS updates, so it may not be clear which one is at fault.
    Uninstall SIMBL as follows.
Select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar, then enter the following text in the box that opens:
    /Library
A folder will open. From that folder, delete the items listed below (some may be absent.) You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
    Application Support/SIMBL
    InputManagers/SIMBL.bundle
    LaunchAgents/net.culater.SIMBL.Agent.plist
    ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax
Log out and log back in.
Make sure you never reinstall SIMBL. It’s likely to come bundled with another third-party system modfication that depends on it. If you want trouble-free computing, avoid software that makes miraculous changes to other software, especially built-in applications. The only real exception to that rule is Safari extensions, which are mostly safe, and are easy to get rid of when they don’t work. SIMBL and its dependents are not Safari extensions.
To complete the removal of the Vodafone software, see below:
    Removing Vodafone
If you still have problems after making the suggested changes and rebooting, post again. Remember: if you don’t like the results of this procedure, you can undo it by restoring from the last backup you made before you started.

  • Opening PKG

While installing Photoshop Elements this morning I erroneously typed in the wrong serial number. When I tried to open the application it shut down due to the wrong information. I manually trashed all files on the hard drive that had anything relating to Adobe Photoshop 4.0 in order to be able to install the program freash. Evidently I unwittingly erased some other important file because now, when I try to activate the Adobe installer, I get this message:
"There is no default application specified to open the document "Adobe Photoshop Elements.pkg"
Have I erased some important file from my Mac system? If so, which one is it, and how can I recover it or re-install it?
Thanks in advance for any advice

hi i think i got the same problem, i think i changed one of my setting and i cant open any pkg or mpkg files, and i tried to follow your instruction in most topics but i cant find utilities in appliciation i think i deleted it by mistake what can i do??

  • Cannot open .pkg files in OS X 10.4.11 or run installer

I recently had to repair disk permissions & verify disk in Disk utility from installer disk. After I did this the only issue I have is opening a .pkg file or running installer. The installer window flashes and closes and does not run. I have right clicked to choose to "open with" installer and same thing happens. I have tried to locate installer from some of the other thread postings to open manually but same thing happens, nothing. This is not an isolated .pkg file, at first I was under the assumption that it was a corrupt file download but it is every file .pkg that I attempt. Any help? Thanks.

Depending upon the nature of the software there may be no application to open.  It might just be a component that appears when you choose a printer to print to from within the print interface for the application you are using.  That's how a typical driver acts.

  • 10.3.9 combo update, - opening "pkg"

I have downloaded the combo installer. when I open the disk image, I end up with updater...pkg. What App. do I use to open a "pkg" and get started. Currently, "Pacifist" wants to open it. Also, is it best to update from another HD or is it ok to update my current startup Drive? Thanks!!

    Hi nuthinbutmacs
This post seem to be overlooked. Allow me to attract some linkers.
If you use Software Update, it would automatically install the 10.3.9 combo.
Is there any reason why you are doing it manually?
All packages should have as their default application Installer. Go to a .pkg file and use Command + i to open the information window. Where it says Open with: choose Installer., and Apply to... Change all.
That will return Installer to be the default application to open .pkg's
Your final question about where to install from.
Install the Update Combo on the Drive you wish to update.
