  • Using PSE 10 on Windows. Can no longer open files in PSE 10?

Have used PSE 10 successfully for quite awhile. Can no longer open files in this program. Choose, "open file" in PSE 10 and nothing happens.

    I'd try
set myFilePath to POSIX file "/Users/Shared/ENGR/sketch/Artists/daleb/16.0/New1/ANNIE_SUB_COMPLETE /31.5-058.psd"
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS6"
      open alias myFilePath
    end tell

  • Opening files in PSE from iPhoto - Saving issue

I opened my files to edit in PSE10 directly from the flagged folder in iPhoto. I noticed it was saving them to a weird numbered file but kept going. I can't find the folder ANYWHERE! How can I recover my edited pictures?

I'm not sure what you're doing but you have two choices when using iphoto with PSE:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor, send the photos from iphoto and save, not save as, without changing the name or format. You will have to go to the PSE preferences>saving files>on first save and set it to save over existing file to do this. Then you should see the edited photo in iphoto. iPhoto will remember your last edited version and you can revert to the original at any time, but you will have to lose the edited version to do so.
    2. Export the photos from iphoto, use file>open in the PSE editor and then make as many changes to the name or format as you like. You will need to import the edited file to iphoto as a new image, but this lets you save as many versions as you like.
The one thing you should never do is to try to save anything into iphoto from outside iphoto. That's the fastest track there is to corrupting the iphoto library and losing all your pics.

  • Opening files in PSE 13

I received PSE 13 a few days ago (I was previously using v. 11) and I am trying to figure out how to set preferences as they relate to opening files. I have a bunch of old JPEG photos that were taken with a point-and-shoot and which never had to do anything with Camera RAW. If I start at the Organizer workspace, select a photo and then go to the Editor, the photo opens in the normal PSE 13 Editor workspace. If however I bypass the Organizer step, start at the Editor, select the file directly from the hard disk and click "Open" (not "Open in Camera Raw) the file opens in Camera Raw anyway. Is this the way it is supposed to work or have I inadvertently changed something in Preferences? (I checked, btw, and could not find any evidence).
    Many thanks!

Once you have opened a particular image in Camera Raw, it will always open there in the future. To prevent that, hold down the shift key as you open the file and it will open in the editor.

  • Can't open files with PSE 10

When I try to open a file with PSE 10, the app doesn't respond. I have owned PSE 10 for less than a month, and Adobe's support is impossible to access.

I am using XP SP3. I try to open any NEF file with PSE 10. There is no error message. The file doesn't open, and when I use Task Manager, PSE is shown as not responding.PSE works sporadically but not at the moment. There is another problem that may or may not be associated with this. When I try to rename some (but not all) files, I get a message that the file is in use by another program. This happens when no programs are active, and nothing shows in Task Manager.

  • Cannot open files in PSE 11

    Hi,
I have PSE11 running on Windows 8 and have had no problems at all since I bought this machine in November 2012. But suddenly I cannot open any images at all.  I have tried removing the PSE preferences file and letting it regenerate but to no avail. I don't get any error messages when I try to open a file, I just get ignored as though I wasn't trying to open anything at all.  I can choose a file to open and can see the thumbnails in the file chooser, but when I select an image to open the file chooser closes and I'm left with the empty editor window. Anyone come across this?  I have not made any changes to my machine or anything like that.

Ah, ok. Looks like I needed to restart my computer before any changes took effect. Tried that and now it's all go. Put this up in case it helps anyone else with the same problem.

  • NEVER MIND: ANSWERED: Clicking on photo in Bridge CS4 opens file not in PSE 8 but in Preview

On my Mac (OS 10.6.8) I had to re-download and reinstall Photoshop Elements 8 after my hard drive crash because I don't at all like Photoshop Elements 10. (Sorry, Adobe.) Now, when I'm browsing in Bridge CS4  (which I much prefer over Organizer; sorry, Adobe) and click on a photo to open it, it opens not in PSE 8 but in Preview. The Bridge Preferences does not address where files open, so I can't figure out how to get it to default to open in PSE 8 and not Preview. Any ideas, please?
PS: Before the crash, clicking on a photo in CS4 opened it in PSE 8, not Preview.
A nice person on Google+ answered the question with this reply:
"Open bridge, then Go to Bridge (Menu bar) Preferences.
File Type Associations, change them over to PSE8 in the right hand column."

You do understand that bridge is just a browser and not an asset management program like iphoto or organizer?
You would need to get your photos out of the iphoto library unless you are using a referenced library. In any case, you don't want to be using two different programs with two different keywording methods. You cannot use bridge on the iphoto library file itself, no, even if you don't care about losing the photos it contains.

  • Can't open any files in PSE 11

What is "NEF is not a valid win32 application when" when I attempt to open a Nikon NEF (raw) file in PSE 11
    Also happens with JPEG.

Check on the PSE forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements

  • Can't Open NEF RAW files in PSE 6

I cannot open NEF RAW files in PSE 6. I downloaded the plugin but that didn't fix it. Any suggestions?

    There is another choice.
You can download the free Adobe DNG Converter, then convert your RAWs to DNG, and then open them in the PSE6 Adobe Camera Raw editor. This doesn't require you updating your software to PSE9, or purchasing anything.

  • Help opening raw files in PSE 13

    Hello,
I upgraded PSE 13 from PSE 9. I was using PSE 9 with my Nikon 600 (because I couldn't open the 600 raw files in PSE 9) by using the Adobe DNG converter. This was working fine. Since upgrading I can't open any Nikon 600 raw files in PSE 13 nor can I open the converted DNG files. It only recognizes jpeg files. The "Open in Camera Raw" option in the File drop down menu is also grayed out and can't be selected. I've tried the "updates" option from the Help menu and ran the updates, shut down PSE13 and also shut down computer and it still isn't working.  Wondering if I need to download a new ACR but can't find any that support the Nikon 600. Any help would be appreciated!

    Thank you for your help.
When I do the "Help" drop down menu there isn't an option for "adobe plug-in" just "about plug-in" which doesn't list any options that seem to help when clicking on and none that say Camera raw.
I read the manual instructions for downloading and am currently downloading the zip file; it is about 70% done. Will this help?
    This is what I'm referencing:
These instructions were originally written to install ACR 8.2 for PSE11, but have been updated to install ACR 8.3 with PSE12.  While ACR 8.3 RC would work with PSE11, ACR 8.3 final will not.  Only PSE12 will host ACR 8.3.
ACR 8.3 will work with PSE12 to open 70D files, but on an older Windows OS like Vista or XP  there is no compatible installer, so a manual install is the only option.  I should also say that the process outlined below does work on my Windows 7 64-bit computer, but I also have PS-CS6 and PS-CC installed on it, so it is possible that ACR 8.3 is dependent on something that wouldn't exist on a computer with only PSE installed on it, but someone else will have to confirm that.
I was able to get 70D files to open in ACR 8.3 on PSE12 by doing the following:
Download the ACR 8.3 for Windows update for PS-CC via the direct download link on the Adobe Blog - in the future this link will likely contain links to only newer versions of ACR but the process would be similar:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2011/03/keeping-photoshop-up-to-date.html#notconnected
Unzip this downloaded setup.zip to a folder somewhere.
Inside the files from that zip is a folder called payloads \ AdobeCameraRaw8.0All-031213015928.
(Note that for future versions of PS and ACR the folder name will be different at the end, but the general format shold be similiar, and the important thing is that this is the folder without x64 in the path, because at this point PSE is a 32-bit program so we need the 32-bit version of the plug-in.  At some point in the future, PSExx may be 64-bit and the approporiate file or files could be the 64-bit version for the 64-bit version of PSE.  This zip file is for Photoshop which has both 32-bit and 64-bit versions so there are both versions of the plug-in as well.)
Inside that folder is another ZIP called Assets1_1.zip so unzip it somewhere.
Inside Assets1_1.zip there is a file called 1003.  This is the largest or perhaps only file in that zip and is the plug-in you need.
Copy this 1003 file into the existing PSE12 camera raw plug-in folder:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 12\File Formats or for a 32-bit Windows OS, into:  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 12\File Formats
Rename the existing Camera Raw.8bi to Camera Raw_8bi_80 (in case something doesn't work and you need to rename it back, later).
    Rename 1003 to Camera Raw.8bi
After these steps you have the ACR 8.3 plug-in installed in PSE12 but not the camera and lens profiles, so install those by downloading and installing the DNG Converter 8.3:

  • Problems opening raw files in pse 8, using a canon 7D

Hi I am having trouble opening cr2 files in pse 8 using a canon 7D, it keeps giving me a error msg, "saying it can't read file" it open them fine from my 1000D same format etc. Has anyone got a solution?
    Tahnks R.

Most likely you need to update your camera raw plugin to version 6.2
    windows:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4807
mac (6.2 only works in the elements editor and not bridge, 5.7 for bridge)

  • PSE 11 won't open files

When I try to open afile with Pse 11 I get an error message that says file is locked or I don't have permissions.
I did find that files were marked as read only but changing it doesn't seem to  change things. I have full pemissions to edit these files
    but still won't open.
The same files will open in Windows Photo Viewer and MS Office Picture Manager.
This seems to have happened since I re-installed Windows 7

    Hi dj_paige
    Error message below
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 11
Could not open a scratch file because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access priveleges.
Use the 'Properties' command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file.
I have tried opening by double clicking in Windows Explorer and by selecting open with..
PSE will not run as I get the same error message when I try to open the program.
I can open the Organiser and select files but when I try to open in the Editor I get the same error message.

  • .NEF RAW file in PSE 11 will directly open in the edit modus

  • Cannot open NEF files in PSE 9

I have just installed a second version of my copy of PSE 9 on a laptop. When I try to open an NEF file I get the message 'Cannot open [file-name] because it is the wrong type of file'.
I can open these files on the version I have installed on my PC so am confused as to why this should be different on the laptop.
I understand I can get around this by converting the files to DNG format but I'd much rather open them directly in pse as I currently do on the version installed on my PC.
Is there any way to get this fixed?
    Thanks
    Neil

    Hi,
Are both PC and Laptop using the same version of Camera Raw - in the editor go to Help -> About Plug-in -> Camera Raw to check the version.
You may have updated your PC but not the Laptop - go to Help -> Updates
Failing that, please let us know which camera model you have.
There is a forum for PSE - best to ask questions there.

  • Open Nikon NRW Files In PSE 10

What do I need to do to open Nikon NRW (raw) files in Elements 10?

The Nikon Coolpix P7700 is newer than PSE10 can be updated to support.  Specifically, the P7700 started to be supported with Adobe Camera Raw version 7.2.  PSE10 only was updatable to ACR 6.7, I believe, so to read your P7700 files in PSE, you need PSE11.
An alternative is to convert the NRW files to DNG files using the current Adobe DNG Converter and open the DNGs in older camera-raw versions.  You will want to be sure to set the DNG Compatibility options in the DNGC to something that ACR 6.7 can understand, which would be ACR 6.6, not the ACR 7.1 that it defaults to the first time you run it.
You can download the current DNG Converter, from the regular Adobe Updates page:
