Open file/url in Captivate 2

I've read several strings hoping to find a solution to this
issue. Unfortunately, I've tried them all and nothing is working.
I have a click box which I want to open a word doc when
clicked. When I set the target to "New", a new browser window opens
but I get "action cancelled" or "page cannot be displayed". If I
copy the URL from that window to a new window, it does open the
doc.
If I change the click box target to "Top", the document will
open in the same browser as my content, wiping out the project.
Clicking the back button causes the project to start over from the
beginning.
What's the solution?

Perhaps a solution is in the "Proper Way to call JavaScript
Function"

Here is my configuration:
Windows 2000 server (without Active Directory)
SP4
Iplanet Messaging Server 5.2
Netscape Directory Server 4.16
IPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 Hotfix 1.09 (built Jan 7 2003)
We have a group which we use to flash messages to all the users of the mail server. Till last week it was working fine but now I am not able to send messages to this group <group-name>.
There are around 800 (Eight Hundred) E-mail id the messaging server and the flashed message is supposed to go to all 800 + users.
Note: I have another group of 300 users and I am able to send an E-mail to this group of 300 users.
I am using Dynamic Group for Members list.
The error message I get while trying to send message to this group is
SMTP Error: 4.5.0 error opening file/URL reference by alias.
The corresponding error in mail.log file is

Now when I construct and Test the LDAP URL from Console, the error I get is:
Search failed with: netscape.ldap.LDAPException: error result (11); Administrative limit exceeded
I have increased the various limits but I still get the same error when I send mail to that group or do a LDAP Test:
The deafult and new limits are:
Sizelimit: Default 2000 New 10000
Timelimit Default 3600 New 3600
Lookthroughlimit Default 5000 New 6000
The corresponding error entry in access log of slapd is:

My search for Administrative limit problem and error opening file/URL error in Sun forum and other groups did get some hits but that did not solve my problem.
I will appreciate any suggestion/comments.

My problem has been fixed.
Your suggestion was to increase the lookthrough limit. As you would have noticed in my posting that I had increased this limit to 6000 but that did not solve my problem. Today I increased this limit to 10000. And after that I did not get "administrative limit exceeded" error. Also I do not get "error opening file/URL reference by alias" error while sending E-mail to a particular group of 800+ ids.

What have you got set for the dynamic URL attribute (mgrpDeliverTo:) for both groups?

Do you see the dynamic URL search in the directory server access logs? What is the result of the search?

Opening File URL in a Browser

I am trying to a TIFF file from my applet using file URL. The TIFF is located in the local file directory and I create an URL and get the Applet Context and call showDocument.

applet.getAppletContext().showDocument(fileURL, "_blank");
The problem with the above code is that if the file location contains spaces it is not opening the TIFF file.
I tried using URLEncoder to encode the url so that the space could be replaced
URL fileURL = new URL("file:///"+ URLEncoder.encode(<file location>,"UTF-8"));
But when i tried with the above code, the spaces are converted to +. Even this is not recognized by browser.
What should I do so that spaces are converted to "%20" which is recognized by the browser. I tried various encoding formats nothing helps.

Rather than trying to figure out the file: url yourself you can rely on the
methods within the File and URI classes to perform the conversion

Can't open file://-URLs (Links) in Mail or Messages. Adium works. What is wrong?

Hi, in our office, we send links to documents on our server with file://-URLs. In Yosemite (Mail and Messages) it is no longer possible to open these links via the services menu (open URL). Apple broke the way Mail handles afp:// URL links in Mavericks and has finished breaking Mail in Yosemite by breaking file:// URL links as well.

Open file URL actionscript

I have designed a flash site and would like to have a button
open a .pdf or .jpg file. I tried to use the getURL script to no
avail. Can someone help me out and let me know what script i should

How to disable security block on intranet file:///// urls?

I have the latest version of firefox esr and im trying to remove the security blocks which stop it from opening file:///// urls on our intranet website.
Can anyone tell me how I can disable the feature and get it to open the urls with the relevant program (a folder share windows explorer, and any other document to use the windows default program list).

Opening a URL/File in new window instead of new tab

I think I know the answer to this, but I'd like to check anyway. When setting an action to Open URL or File for a button/click box/hyperlink/etc, is there a setting in Captivate to open the URL/File in a new WINDOW instead of a new TAB? I know to use the "New" setting along with the Open URL or File action. I assume opening in a new window instead of a new tab by default is going to depend on the settings of whatever browser you use, but like I said, just wanted to check. Thanks!

If you open it in javascript and specify a height/width or location it should open in a new window.

Captivate 5: Opening Multiple URLs

Hey All,
My company is currently working on some new Captivate training. We have, however, run into a snag. We continually run into the problem that when you click a button to open a url/file it contines past the pause we have built in. We can't build a pause into the button itself due to audio narration. We thought of using a few seconds at the end (after the audio) to create an invisible pause (invisible button that pauses) before the next button pause. However we have a few slides wehre there are about 8 links they need to click. We mainly want them to be able to open the files as many times as they want without the training advancing on its own.
So that is your mission if you choose to accept it.

Project end option - Open file or URL and Close project

Hi Merav
You could probably accomplish it by creating an Advanced Action to carry it out. But there are some caveats.
* You would need to ensure the URL were opened in a new window
* Your Advanced Action would need to carry out the Open URL or file bit as the first step

Captivate 7 Click box and bottons not able to open an URL on a new window

I inserted a button and a click box in CP7 to open an URL on a new window. The URL opens but in a New Tab. There is an issue that the URL cannot be opened on a NEW WINDOW, I am using IE and Chrome. Do you have any ideas about this issue and how to troubleshoot it? I tried with Safari and it works fine.

It's my understanding that all you can do is to configure the link to open in a new "whatever". Whether you get the link opening in a tab or a window is left up to the browser and how the particular user has their browser configured. For example, I use Firefox and when I look at its settings here is what I see.
I'm guessing there must be a way to force a new window, because I do see new windows appear. But I think in those cases folks are doing it by using JavaScript.

Dear all,
While running some local website I've got some hyperlinks in it that say:
txmt://open?url=file:///Users/me/files/somefile.txt
Clicking on the link opens the somefile.txt in TextMate.
I'm trying to achieve the same for a pdf to open in Preview. I've replaced txmt with Preview but that doesn't work.
Can someone explain me this? I've looked into using: http://www.apple.com/applescript/linktrigger/index.html. But didn't get what to fill in for: com.apple.AppleScript.WebpageHelper

That page tells you what you need - just look at the image link on the side. You'll see it has a URL:

This maps to the parameters shown in the .plist:

This is the part of the URL after the protocol:// and before the arguments.

</dict>

The CFBundleURLName is pretty much anything you like - it's just a pretty name for the URL. The CFBundleURLSchemes is an array of the protocols you want to use (in this case webpagehelper:// )
If you want to translate those terms to your existing URL, then 'txmt' would be your CFBundleURLScheme and 'open' would be your CFBundleIdentifier

How to open an executable file from within Captivate

Hi guys,
I wondered if any of you guys could help me...
I am using Captivate 3 and I have created a project in this and exported it as a standalone executable file.
Ideally I would like to link this to another standalone executable file exported from Captivate, so is it possible
to create a button in the first file so when it has been exported, if I click on this it opens up the second standalone file?

I'm pretty sure that, for security reasons, the projector app that Captivate uses for stand-alone EXEs is sandboxed: you won't be able to access the API of the host operating system, so you won't be able to launch any apps.

Problem with Open URL: Adobe Captivate 4

I am using Adobe Captivate 4. I have a simple slide in the middle of my video that contains three text buttons--two of them "jump to another slide" when the user clicks them. The third is set to open a URL.
When I preview the video, this all works perfectly. However when I publish, the "open URL" button does not work.
Any ideas?

2. What was the URL that was provided?
3. Are you getting this error for a specific document or for all of them?
4. Can you try downloading Reader DC from Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions and re-installing on you machine.
