Open file without file scan permission

Hi!
Under Windows XP it was possible to open a file in a netware directory having read but no "file scan" permission on the containing directory.
We used this for use cases like the one described here: https://forums.novell.com/novell-pro...ermission.html
Under Windows 7 and Windows 8 that doesn't seem to work anymore???
Is that "feature" no more supported or is it a problem with our Client oder Windows setup?

How to download a LOB file without File Browse or a Report?

Hi, All,
Behind my APEX 4.2.2 app, I have a table with PDF's held in a column of type BLOB. With the ID of a given row held in a Page Item, I would like to dynamically generate a simple link for downloading the file. Can this be done?

Thank you for your help. Here is how I managed to display a Page Item as a URL to download a BLOB - which is a PDF, in this case...
1. Set up an Automatic Row Fetch process
2. Created a Page Item (P4_BLOB_CONTENT) with its source as the blob content database column
3. Created a Display Only page item (P4_DOWNLOAD_LINK) but did nothing to it
4. Set up a Dynamic Action (On Change, Set Value) to set the value of P4_DOWNLOAD_LINK via a SQL Query, setting Escape Special Characters to No:
SELECT '<a href="'||APEX_ITEM.GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC('P4_BLOB_CONTENT',doc_id,NULL,'inline')||'">Download Link</a>' dlink
FROM documents
WHERE doc_id = :P4_DOC_ID;
This Dynamic Action fires when the value of P4_DOC_ID changes. This displays a functioning hyperlink, Download Link, that gets the PDF. If the above query returns no row, no link is displayed.
Two remaining questions:
1. When the link is clicked, the browser wants to save the PDF. This is fine, of course, but it does so with a default file name of 'download'. How can I set that default file name as the name of the PDF being downloaded?
2. How do I get the MIME type to be passed along so the browser knows about it? The MIME type stored in the database table.

Send a file without File Content Conversion

Hi,
I need to send an IDOC flat file that I pick from File system to a FTP server through XI. I was just wondering if there was a way by which I could avoid doing File Content Conversion on both the send and receiver file adapters?
In my scenario, I am just passing this file through XI. I am not making any changes to it but to send it thru XI, I will have to convert from flat IDOC file ( file generated from File port in ECC) to XML and then from XML to Flat file.
Can anyone guide??

As a matter of fact, no IR object is needed. You can make up any interface name and namespace in the ID.
This sounds interesting..!!
Can I just note down the steps in this case and can you validate the same..
1. No IR objectd needed.
2. File adapters ~~ Both sender and reciver , make the protocol as FILE
3. Receievr Determination , Interface determination , Sender Agreement , Receiver Agreement ~~~ Give dummy Interface as well as Namespace values?

FCP exports files without file extensions

Hello-- when I export a QT in FCP, it results in a file that does not have a file extension. I've confirmed that Finder is set to show all file extensions on my system, and when I export a file from FCP and "get info", Finder shows the file name is indeed missing the extension-- and even when I unlock the file and have read/write permissions for it, the "hide extension" option for these exported files is greyed out (so I can't check or uncheck it, and the file details confirm it has no extension as part of the file name).
When these files are accessed on a Windows system, they won't play unless I manually add the .mov at the end... which is really troublesome when I'm doing a massive batch export of files to have to rename each one!
The problem appears to have only started after the last update of 10.6.4... which also coincided with my systems update to FCP 7.0.2. Is this a known issue for anyone else? Or just a coincidence? Thanks for any help in advance!

I'm exporting from a sequence... it looks like sending a to Compressor or File>Export>Quicktime movie works OK but selecting a (or several) sequences or clips within the browser and then using the "batch export" feature will generate the file extension problem. Hmmm. I wonder if something is corrupted with my newest install?

Simple File 2 File scenario - binary

XI freaks hello,
I want to run a simple text File to text File scenario without ANY change of the file encoding.
currently it is running using the Binary type (I don't want to mess with the content encoding of the text file).
would this be ok?
mind you..the file is taken from a Windows FS and moved to another FS...would this might cause encoding problem? should the original program create the file with the target server encoding

Whether to configure an encoding in this case depends on if you want to pass through the file "as is", e.g. within a File Sender to File Receiver scenario, or if you want to convert the file's encoding on its way through the Integration Server. For "as is" processing, configure both the sender and the receiver using the File Type setting "Binary".
To apply an encoding conversion, configure the respective source and target encoding in both the sender and receiver channel."

"File cant be opened because you dont have permission to use it"

Im suddenly getting this message on all the photos stored in my computer: "File cant be opened because you dont have permission to use it" If I click on 'Get Info' for pics, the "Sharing and Permissions" doesnt open either. Im OS X 10.7.3 Help!

Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Launch the Terminal application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. If that doesn’t work, then in the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Drag or copy – do not type – the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
chmod -R -N ~
You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

Browser has a downloaded file without permission

Greetings,
During the usage of Firefox browser, suddenly i found downloaded file in the profile folder, but this is always happen each time i delete the file it comes back again, Fortunately i have a Norton Internet Security with the Download File Insight feature i could discover that file and followed the cache folder of Firefox Browser and it is not a virus,
Now these issue was happened after i have installed a program named virtual router on Windows VISTA,
After rename the file in cache folder to .exe extension it shows the setup file mentioned the wireless icon, by running it it shows the normal setup of Winhostspot,
What shall i do to stop this downloading file without permission?
Do i have to uninstall the virtual router software?
I'm sure that i have no virus cause the Norton Internet Security is up to-date with all running its security features: Virus definition and Firewall ... etc.
Even i have scanned the file by uploading it to http://metascan-online.com/

When I download a Word file from a classroom management database, why won't Firefox open the file without me having to save it?

I have been using Firefox for many years with Blackboard products. In the last six months or so, when I try to download a student's file that is a Word .docx, it won't let me open it without saving it. Word .doc files work fine. I don't have this problem with Internet Explorer, but of course IE is clunky, slow, and doesn't fill in forms. Any help would be appreciated. Let me know if I can supply more details.

Two possible problems. 
1. BlackBoard never supports the latest version of Firefox, for a few reasons. Some schools don't run the latest version of BlackBoard Vista or Campus Edition. Also, BlackBoard upgrades seem to be tied to the "school year" cycle, the changes they make to improve and update their software seem to be rolled out for the fall term so that changes aren't being made during the normal "school year" and possibly causing problems for the schools. That also may be a function of their contract / payment cycles with the schools that use their programs.

Select the link for the version of WebCT Vista or Campus Edition ''(version info is usually at the bottom of each page, in the footer)'' that your school is using, then see which version of Firefox is compatible.
Depending upon which version of WebCT your school is using, you will have to use Firefox 3.6.x, Firefox 3.5.x, or Firefox 3.0.x when accessing the Blackboard site.
My advice is to install the Firefox Portable version that you need for Blackboard on your computer, and use that installation only for Blackboard. Continue to use 4.0.1 for all other web browsing.

2. Firefox uses a Plugin ( you have Office Plugin for Netscape Navigator installed) to open files that aren't "internet files", like word processing documents. 
I can't help you directly with Office, as I use Open Office, but there should be a preference for that Plugin within your Office preferences or options under something like Internet, to have those files '''Display documents in browser'''.

How can I open a tdms file and replace a subset of data then save that change without re-writing the entire file again?

Hi all,
Is it possible to open a tdms file and make a small change an an array subset then save the file without having to save the whole dataset as a different file with a new name? That is to say, is there something similar to "Save" in MS Word rather than "Save As"... I only want to change a 1D array of four data points in a file of 7M data points.
I am not sure if this make sense? Any help is apreciated.

You can use either one, but for your application, I would use the synchronous. It requires far less setup. When you open the file, set both enable asynchronous and disable buffering to FALSE to enable you to use synchronous with arbitrary data sizes.

Flash Player Installer downloads from the Adobe distribution site as a generic file without an extension and the file won't open.

Hi, everyone.
When I download Flash Player Installer from the Adobe distribution site Adobe Flash Player Distribution | Adobe the file downloads to my hard drive as a generic file with no extension, and Windows can't determine which program to use in order to open/play the file. I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
Is there something wrong with the downloaded file? Or am I missing required software?

Yes, I've never had a problem before. I've even downloaded the Flash Player Install files from the Adobe distribution site on multiple occasions in the past without issue. The only thing I could think of is that perhaps the ".exe" extension was left off to avoid triggering security measures on a computer or private network that would prevent the download.
Anyway, it worked after I added the ".exe" extension to the filename, so I have no complaints!

How to open a text file without using dialog box

I can open a file using dialog box but I want to open a file without using any dialog box for writing.

How do I get Adobe Acorbat to open a .pdf file from a sharepoint library without having to checkout the file

I have a customer that is using Adobe Acrobat pro version 10.1. When they try and open a .pdf file from a SharePoint site, the user is prompted to check out and open the file or open the file. Is there a way to get Adobe Acrobat to open the .pdf file without prompting to check out or open?

This is mostly a lion thing, rather than a PSE thing. To disable applications opening where they left off last time for all the programs on your computer, go to system preferences>general and untick this box:
You can also do on a per-program basis, but it's more complicated and the best thing to do is to search around for directions on the web and see which way is least uncomfortable for you.
There's an odd little glitch in PSE that it opens the last image you had open, even if you closed it before quitting last time. Adobe says this is correct behavior, but of course it isn't.
