Open files with AIR application

Hy, I made an AIR application that manages video files. Is there any way that when I try to open a video file to be opened with my application and play it ? Not just open the application and browse for the video.

Open File With LabVIEW Application

I have a LabVIEW application that can be used to analyze several data files at once. I am wondering what the best way to right click on a file from Windows Explorer and open with the application. I know you can use the command line property node to find what file was opened if the application is not running when you open the file, but from what I found, this does not work if the application is already running. I have a work around in place by using my main application as an ActiveX server, and another application which reads the file name from the command line when the user right clicks and opens the file, passes the path to the main application, and shuts down so the process can be repeated. Is anyone familiar with a way to do this without have two executables?

Inability to open file with appropriate application

I am a huge fan of Symantec’s classic outlining program, More 3.1. Until OmniOutliner implements cloning, I will need to stay with MORE running in Classic on a non-Intel system since so much of my professional work is done in MORE.
Just recently, I’ve noted a problem opening MORE files. Specifically, they all open in OmniOutliner (v3.6.2 Professional) if one double clicks on them.
I’ve done a “Get Info”, navigated to “Open With”, navigated to the MORE application, chosen “All Applications” (rather than “Recommended Applications”), but am unable to select the More application (it remains dimmed out). In the past this process worked just fine.
Interestingly, I am able to open these files from within MORE; ie, if the MORE application is running, I use MORE’s “Open File” command and all works well. All MORE files work fine when they are opened in this fashion.
The only thing that I can think of is that I had to do an "Archive and Install" to repair damage from a system crash last week. Could this have somehow affected this Classic application’s opening process?
I’ve “Repaired Permissions” via Disk Utility, and also run Applejack from single user mode. I’m running OS 10.4.10 on a 1.6 GHz PPC. All else on my system seems to be working perfectly.
Any information as to how I may set my MORE files to open with the MORE application with a double-click or Command-O would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I suggest that you reset the LaunchServices database as detailed in:

Restart, select a More document, and see if that fixes things.

Won't open files with default application

When I try to open a file it opens preview instead of the default application and does not actually open the file! I have tried changing the default application but it does not help. How can I fix this?

Try dragging & dropping the file on the Application's icon that you want to open it with for a test.
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions...

Opening files with selected applications.

This is the second time I post this subject. The first time, I thought I had solved the issue using a package named `Default Applications` [suggested in the discussion forum]. But this was `illusory`. If I tell the machine, in all the way I know, to open .f or .c (fortran/c) files with Aquamacs Emacs by default, it will do it a couple of times, but after a while, (a restart...I have not checked) Xcode wins again! I definitely don't want to use the Xcode editor. What should I do? Should I erase Xcode from the disk or eventually there is some more elegant solution to this problem? My impression is that this is a bug of the OS [the *always open with* button does not work at all], which should be cured in the new edition. I know from many collaborators and friends that they have exactly the same problem.

I had this problem before with how I view the inside of my main Hard Drive. I Keep on changing the view ( J in Finder) with bigger icons and a green background but after every restate its back to small unorganized icons with a white background. Two days ago I enabled finder to show hidden items. I Found out the .DS_Store was owned to another Admin on my computer. I changed it to mine and it's all swell.
So even though Repair permission did not work for me to fix the problem for me, I still recommend to Verify and Repair permissions.
Second I should suggest to find the file(s) that handles what files are opened with. (I'll do my part in finding it)

Packaging AIRHelp .air file with AIR Application

Hi,
Has anyone had any experience packaging an AIRHelp project (generated by RoboHelp) with an AIR Application? I want installation for our app to be simple as possible for the end user, and requiring them to install the help separately from the real AIR application seems to be complicated and error prone. (In addition, ProductManager launch function cannot determine whether or not help has been installed, so there could be problems there.)
Currently we are using a native installer for the AIR app.

Another thing I learned is that you might have the icon file embeded in the application somewhere and that removes it from the include in AIR package screen.That shows the same 303 error. See more detalis here : http://spy6.blogspot.com/2009/10/error-creating-air-file-303error-some.html

Google Chrome doesn't open files with any applications

Hey all,
After downloading stuff, it is desirable to open the files downloaded; however this is made difficult on my Arch system because Chrome doesn't know what to open the files with, nor does it ask.
I'm using SLiM, xmonad, and have a rather minimalistic set up.
Secondary to this, Chrome cannot determine by itself whether it is the default browser application.
I don't know where I could provide this information to Chrome, Can anybody help?

Help! Cannot open files with certain applications

I updated to OS Tiger from OSX some weeks ago. Before, I could run a program that labels files in a given folder with names given in an Excel file (csv format). This "csv sorter" usually asks for the csv file once I put in the folder with the files that should be labeled. In the dialog window that opened I could just go through my harddrive to my csv file and choose it. Now the csv files always appear in pale grey and I cannot click on them. Has anybody an idea why certain programs should not recognize certain filetypes any more in OS Tiger? It seems like I cannot access any file with the csv sorter any more, no matter which file type. Thanks for your help!

I had to turn on my wireless mouse... And even though I wasn't using my wireless mouse and just the trackpad...I had to turn on my wireless mouse then adjust those settings...Had to turn down the speed. Then Once I shut the mouse off and started to use the trackpad again it works perfectly.
I'm not sure why the mouse settings would change the trackpad settings but it did.

I am trying to write a class which can open file with selected application. for simplicity, now I just hard code the varaibles.
the problem: if the path or file name has space in it, even it exist, winword still can not open it.

Open File with Application in Automator - Bug???

I have created a simple workflow to open a text file with TextEdit. It seems to work once, then subsequent times the workflow goes to the point that TextEdit opens but the file doesn't open along with it.
I have encountered the same type of problem when trying to open other files with other applications - the applicaton opens but the file is not passed along with it.
I am only using two actions:
(1) Get Specified Finder Items
(2) Open Finder Items
I noticed there is another Finder action that doesn't seem to do anything called "Get Selected Finder Items"
Am I doing something wrong?

I'm not sure about your main problem, but I can tell you about the "Get Selected Finder Items" action.
That action refers to the items you have selected in the Finder. Selected items in the Finder are highlighted. So, if you haven't selected anything in the Finder yet, then the action will not have anything to give the workflow.
In essence, this action allows you to specify an item (or items) each time you run a workflow merely by selecting an item in the Finder, instead of having to specify an item permanently in the workflow. That is, you don't have edit the workflow in order to use it for another item. So you don't need multiple copies of the workflow, each specifying a different file or set of files.
Hope that clears up the mystery of that action.

What version of Bridge and Photoshop and what platform? Mac or Windows? I can point you to a downloadable installer.
If the cdrom was damaged, it may be the problem.
You would uninstall and use the CC/CS Cleaner to remove any remnants before reinstalling.

To save each Project file in AIR application separately

I'm on the verge of developing a Desktop AIR application for a particular purpose. Now this application has the facility to develop multiple projects. What I would like to do is to save each of this project in a separate file in a specified location.
And moreover when I double click this project file, the AIR application should load with the specific project. My main purpose is to port project file of user's choice from one PC to another and open the same (assuming AIR application is installed in that machine) on double clicking it.
So if a user has created 5 projects inside the application and wants to share only one of the project, he/she should be able to do that.
A application that works the same way is MarketSamurai.
I hope I have explained it clearly my requirement, kindly please provide me suggestions.

[Flex mobile] Open file with a Filebrowser

Hi everyone,
i want to be able to open files with a file browser in my app, but the browse dialog which is opened by the File.browse() method only displays / opens music or image files. Furthermore im not even able to change the Dialog header when running my project on android:

but i can't get it running for my mobile project. The type associations works fine in my desktop air application but it doesn't work in my mobile app. Is this type associations stuff supposed to be working on mobile devices / android?

Snow Leopard 10.6.2 CS4 InDesign can't open files with a "#" in file path using any of these perfectly normal methods:
1. double-click file in the Finder (e.g in a Folder on your Mac or on your Mac desktop etc.)
2. select file and choose "File... Open" command-o in the Finder
3. drag file to the application icon in the Finder.
4. Select file in Bridge and double-click, choose File.. Open.. or Drag icon to InDesign icon in dock.
If you try to open an ID file named with a "#", you will get an error message "Missing required parameter 'from' for event 'open.'"
This happens to any InDesign file that has a "#" (pound sign, number sign, or hash) in the filename or in the file path (any parent folder).
To reproduce
Name an InDesign file Test#.idd Try to open it in the Finder or Bridge (as opposed to the "Open" dilaog of InDeisng itself).
"Solution"
The file WILL open using File... Open... command-o while in InDesign application.
Rename the file or folders that have a "#" (shift-3) in the filename.
Report to Adobe if it bugs you.
This does not occur in "plain" Leopard 10.5 nor Tiger 10.4
Untested in Panther or before and
Untested with CS3 and earlier in Snow Leaopard.
Anyone have those and want to try this... ?

In case this really bothers you: we've added a workaround for this into Soxy. If you enable the option, these documents will open fine on double-click.
You need Soxy 1.0.7 from:

Go to the 'Soxy' - 'Preferences' - 'Other' dialog window, and enable 'Open InDesign via Script'
(Irrelevant background info (it's all invisible to the user): the workaround works by special-casing how Soxy opens documents in InDesign: instead of using AppleScript, Soxy will use ExtendScript to instruct InDesign to open the document - which works fine).
