Open Final Cut Pro project in Logic Pro for audio editing

I want to open a Final Cut Pro project i'm working on into Logic Pro without having to export my large FCP projects to video all the time. Is there any way of doing this?

Thanks for replying to my question, I did mean Logic Pro but I'm relatively new to these programs. What's the difference with Soundtrack Pro and Logic Pro exactly? If I understood you correctly, Logic Pro would be the program I need since I need to create audio from scratch. Just to be more clear again, I want to see my video while composing audio at the same time but without having to export my video all the time since it takes long, being a big file. If you export the project from FCE you can import the QuickTime into FCP. You can do limited work to it like adding titles.

Can Final cut pro open final cut express projects

I have a FCE project and I used my 7D shot at 24p. So I converted the files so I can edit them in FCE. But I found out that FCE timeline only edits at 29.97fps. I was wondering can I open a FCE project in FCP so I can edit in true 24p?

I have FCE 4 and I will be opening it with FCP 6 so that should open fine I assume? and I have already started my editing on that project but I would like to able to finish it up in FCP while taken advantage of editing in 24p, thats possible right?

Problem with opening final cut studio3 project files

hello, i m using final cut studio 3 and it seems it ocured a problem with the projects
after i work on a project and save it, i can t open it anymore(it apears a dialog box wich it says unable to open project file)
i ve uninstalled final cut, installed again and the problem it s still there

Uninstalling/reinstalling rarely helps in issues like these and is usually a huge waste of time... It sounds more like a corrupt project than anything. Is FCP able to open other projects?
Hopefully you have Autosave turned on, as that may be your only salvation... So go to your Autosave Vault (usually located in your documents folder, in the Final Cut Pro Documents folder).

Open Final Cut 6 projects in previous versions

I just upgraded to FCP 6. Is there any way to exchange a project with someone using FCP 5? Is there a way to "save down" to a previous version? Thanks!

Versions of Final Cut Pro aren't backwards compatible. So a project created with FCP 6 cannot be opened with FCP 5...and this even goes into the dot-updates as well. A project created with FCP 5.1.4 cannot be opened by FCP 5.1.1.
Nope, for this you need to use XML. Export your sequence as an XML sequence and import that in the other version of FCP. XML v3 if for FCP 5.1 4 and FCP 6. XML v2 is for FCP 5.0, and XML v1 is for FCP 4.5. So if you need to go from FCP 6 to FCP 5.0.4, you'd use XML v2.

Hi,
I cannot see how to importing my older Final Cut Express projects into Premiere Pro CS5. I know this can be done with Final Cut Pro via the XML format, but it seems that FCE does not export to XML. Does anybody know of alternative ways of exchanging data? Maybe, a file converter of any kind?

Yes, I have a couple of them, but they have their lives :-)
I guess I can have their help, as soon as they can. In any case, being independant with this kind of things would be great.
However, I guess that this conversion is to be done once, since I don't plan to downgrade to FCE again (unless Adobe stops developing Premiere for Mac again, or I end up with no money to buy the upgrades...)

I noticed that if I open Final Cut Projects created on other/older models MacBook Pro Laptops or MacPro Desktops, the fonts used in the previously created FCP projects, change their font spacing! which distorts the look of the Text that was written, by oevrlapping on other things that were put & present on the screen.. Another similar probelm is that the Vector shaped used for example to highlight certain words or shapes, also change their position on the screen so that they no longer highlight exact things that we once used these vectors to highlight or outline... Anyone knows how to solve this problem please?? I made sure that the same fonts are available in the Library in both old and newer computers...

You might want to take your question to the FCP forum - if you copied all fonts to your Library>Fonts folder and restarted they should be recognized by all applications. I know that this works for Adobe products, anyway.

Possible corrupted project or media fies. Here's what I'd suggest.
First trash preferences. If that doesn't work…
Move your Final Cut Projects folder into a folder named Hidden Folder. See if FCP then launches. If it doesn't hide your Final Cut Events folder. Once FCP launches successfuly, create a test event and project.
To track down the problem, successively move load events and projects from hideen to their proper location and open FCP. When and if you get the crash you have hopefully located the problem.
The easiest way to do this is to purchace Event Manager X ($5).

You can export any movie from FCE to Quicktime, and use it in FCP X. If you export using ProRes 422 codec it will already optimized for FCP X.
What you can't do is use the FCE projects themselves in FCP X.

It sounds as though you have a corrupt project - or possibly a file within an event that is causing the application to crash.
Quit FCP X, then move your projects and events (if you have any) to new folders so that FCP X doesn't find them, then relaunch the application. If it launches OK, there's a very good chance one of your projects or events is causing the problem.
Quit the app again, then move one event or project at a time back to the original folder and launch FCP X again - keep going until you find the cause.

i am working with only wmv files, which already is a hassle in itself. whenever i open final cut pro it prompts me with a screen that says "importing" on it. i figure final cut is importing all of the wmv files from previous projects or maybe information from the scratch disks, im really not too sure but it is kind of an inconvenience every time i want to open final cut up. ive turned off the "open previous project" in the settings. is there anything else that can be done because that does not seem to work. thanks.

Hold down the Shift button whilst opening FCP and you'll start with a clean FCP, no previously opened projects.

Cant open Final Cut Pro

Hi can anyone assist please. i have just deleted a years worth of files from various projects I have worked on to completely clear the system on my Mac pro. I now want to ingest more recent footage and on trying to open up Final cut pro a window appeared stating that there was a problem with one or more scratch disks and asked if I wanted to reset the disk which I did. I then tried to open final cut and it starts to load up gets 5 or 6 seconds in then stops. Could i have possibly deleted a file that Final cut requires to open or operate? As you can probably gather I'm ok with the editing side of things but not the removal of files.

Sure, it's possible. You may have to reinstall if you did. You can use this app ( http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/ ) to uninstall the app properly, then reinstall from the install discs.
But you may not have to go that far. When you try to launch FCP, does the splash screen come up? If so, watch the splash screen to see what process or plugin FCP is loading when it stops and let us know.

Can't open Final Cut Pro after the migration

I bought a new iMac (21.5 inch: 3.2 GHz) and migrated all the files from my old iMac, which I brought in 2006 or so. Two problems
Never migrate a pro app.
In your case the underlying issue is v5 is not compatible with intel processors
The solution is to purchase the upgrade to the current version, erase your hard drive and install the system and pro apps fresh from the disks

Your work will still be there, you just have to go through Updating your older pre 10.1. stuff to the new Library model way of doing things.
