Open finder in different desktop sessions

How can we open finder in different desktop sessions.....
Or alternatively switch diff instances of finder like Alt+Tab in Windows

Thanks X423424X,
Those aritcles were helpful in some way.
I can assign Finder to multiple desktop but if I access it from any desktop it opens the same instance of Finder.
Is there a way by which I can open different instance of Finder in different desktop.
My goal is to switch between different instances of Finder, quickly.

  • The Menu Bar is missing, but not because it is in "full screen" or it is turned off. When I click it, it opens a whole different desktop-ish thing.

It is like it opens another desktop, and I have to slide my desktop to the right to get to mozilla. Although, it is solely for mozilla and is not a true other desktop. I can not find how to open it normally like it used too. I do not have any access to the menu bar for it. When it is in the mode, it does not show anything but the tabs and address bar. It does not even show the dock unless I scroll to the left to my main desktop. I am clueless and can not find anything anywhere on the web. Does anyone have a clue?

    Hi Edpainter!!
It seems like you are stuck in the Fullscreen mode.
Try to press "Shift+OptionKey+F" at the same time to move out of that mode and restart Firefox to confirm that everything is ok.
In a related note, your Firefox seems to be outdated, so I will suggest you to go to www.mozilla.org and download the latest version of it.
Let me know if it helps.

  • How can I sort two open Finder windows differently?

I have two Finder windows open. I want to sort one by date and one by name. Whenever I try changing one window, Finder changes the other window too. What am I doing wrong?

    terry,
Now not optimal but you can open the folder you want to organize by say size, and name or Whatever, in to windows. Organize one by name for my example, and in the other start a spotlight search with a space (Hit the spacebar once). Change the search criteria from Macintosh HD and select the folder you were in, if the spotlight search isn't in list view change it to list view. And now you can organize the to windows independent to each other.
But as this is still not the most optimal solution I would send Apple your feedback by going to http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Also I've never used it but you could look into MuCommander it might do what you would like. http://www.mucommander.com/

  • How can I open multiple instances of the same folder and web browser in different desktops in Lion?

I've selected "none" for association but it doesn't work. In other words, I have a Dropbox folder on my desktop. I'd like to be able to open that same folder using the same shortcut on different Lion desktops. However, whenever I try to use the same shortcut on a different desktop, it switches to the one where it's already open. Same problem with web browsers; if I try to just click on a web browser to create a new window, it will take me back to the other desktop.
I didn't have this problem before I had to replace my hard drive and update everything again. I am aware of the "restart Finder" option as well as associating programs with individual desktops. All of the things in question are currently selected as "none."
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just set Safari's option to None. That is I right clicked on the dock, selected options, and chose none. Also, in Mission Control's tab of System Preferences I clicked Off When switching to an application, switch to a space with open windows for that application. That let me open a new Safari window no matter what desktop I was in. But I had to do both. Just setting the desktop option to none didn't seem to do it. Finder seems to work okay with just the none option set.

  • Is there a way to view just one open Finder window (without any other Finder or other application windows coming into view) from a Desktop hot corner in Yosemite?

I just upgraded to Yosemite from Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro. Previously, I could view just one open Finder window by viewing the Desktop via a hot corner and then selecting Finder from the Dock. This would pull only the top Finder winder into view, without showing any other open Finder windows, and most importantly, any other open application windows. I could then easily drag files/folder from my Desktop into the Finder window (which I do A LOT). Since upgrading to Yosemite, whenever I use the Desktop hot corner and select Finder from the Dock, it pulls every open application and Finder window back into view, putting Finder in front.
Is there any way to view just one already open Finder window (or all Finder windows for that matter) without seeing all other open applications, without having to Hide the other applications or using Spaces?

Yes I've created an Automator Application that does the job, but the "watch me do" function that does the Mail Merge is a rather Clunkey work around, as the mouse moves all over the place, thats the part i want to remove and replace with a script, or work out a different way around it that avoids the "watch me do" function.
Is this Possible? or where/who is there i can ask to write me a script, im not a novice to scripting, but i am a novice to Applescript.

  • CL_GUI_HTML_VIEWER need to open a different Browser session if one exists

    Hi All,
I'm using the class  cl_gui_html_viewer for displaying a PDF in My program. However, if an Internet Explorer Session is already open, the HTLM_VIEWER created in my program is behaving more like a child of the already open browser (In other words, it works like pressing CTRL+N on the original window). But my requirement is to open a new Browser session altogether (Like Opening up another Internet Explorer Session).
The reason i need to have this is because the PDF i display is based on an authenticated login. If a person is already logged in through the Stand alone IE browser, my program should not allow the same user to view it in the browser but authenticate again by prompting for a login. This is achieved by using different Browser sessions (not by CTRL+N).
Please let me know if you have any thoughts on achieving this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jr.

where is this PDf coming from, is it from external source thru a url? can you pass uid/pwd to this PDF via url,
if yes, pass a wrong uid/pwd thru the url , every time you load the pdf, in the html viewer control, this would always prompt for authntication box. other option is to delete the sso2 cookie,  you need to find a method to delete the cookie in your local machine created by calling this pdf from standalone browser.

  • Why does my finder display differently every time I open it

When I open Finder, it always opens it to a different size with different column widths that what I set. Can someone please help me understand how to save my settings so that I don't have to resize every time?
    Thanks!
I don't want it like this
I want it like this, and I always resize but it doesn't always reopen like that the next time I open Finder

    Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer one.

  • I can't find Netflix on desktop, can't download it from App Store. It shows it's open, but can't find it.

I Can't find Netflix on desktop nor can download from App Store. Shows it's open, but can't find it. Any thoughts?

I would quit the app, since you see it's open, and close all the other apps, then go to settings and reset network settings. The iPad will reboot. Then when it's back again, do a search for "Netflix" which will show you the location of the app (in the search results)
From my search, you'll see I have it located in a folder I created ...

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader Starts when opening a Remote Desktop Session

I recently upgraded to Acrobat Reader 8. Now I have a problem that Acrobat Reader loads when I open a Remote Desktop session. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what I should look at to get it to stop loading? Thank you.

After a third uninstall and re-install I've managed to crack it.

  • Finder hangs when opening any subfolders inside ~/Desktop

My wife just bought one of the new 13" Airs with Lion on it. I did the Migration Assistant with a Time Machine backup as the source but apparently the external backup disk is on the brink of death; it randomely ejected about a quarter of the way through the Migration and screwed up her user account (it didn't have a known password associated with it). I made a dummy account and used it to run Migration Assistant again and told it to overwrite her existing user account with the one on the Time Machine backup. The drive made a valiant effort and managed to stay up and working long enough to migrate the ~200GB backup over to the Air. I then logged back in with her user account, deleted the dummy account, and used Disk Utility to "Repair Permissions" on the Air's hard drive.
Now she can login and all of her files appear on the desktop. I can doubleclick and run any single files on her desktop without problem. But if I double click a Desktop folder to open it in Finder OR if I open Finder and try to navigate to any folders on the Desktop, Finder freezes up. The sidebar goes blank, I can no longer move the Finder window around, and I can't even CMD+W or CMD+N Finder windows. I've tried repairing permissions and repairing disk and neither have helped. As far as I can tell, it's only the Desktop folder and its subfolders that cause Finder to hang; I can navigate to other folders on her disk in Finder without a problem. Using Terminal, I can cd to Desktop, cd to any folders inside Desktop, and everything looks fine; the files and folders do seem to actually exist and be accessible, just not via Finder. I just rebooted w/ CMD+R and am reinstalling Lion to see if it fixes the issue but does anyone have any others suggestions?

    More detail:
The Lion reinstall completed successfully but the problem persists. I verified that her Desktop folder is owned by her user and group and the permissions look correct. I can open another program and navigate to and open files that are in her Desktop (e.g. with VLC I can Open... and navigate to ~/Desktop/Media/Work/podcast.avi and it plays fine; in Word I can Open ~/Desktop/WorkDocs/whitepaper.docx). I deleted her ~/Desktop/.DS_Store file via terminal but that's not helping. Finder is hanging and giving the spinning beachball as soon as it opens. It doesn't seem to matter what I try to do in Finder, it just hangs. I've tried Force Quitting Finder but as soon as it reopens, it hangs up again and just shows the spinning beachball. All I can figure at this point is that Finder.app is corrupt and doing a Lion reinstall isn't helping. Anyone have suggestions or steps for reinstalling a clean Finder.app?

  • Crashed, rebooted, cannot open Finder, desktop empty, Finder flickering.  Help!

I discovered my MacBook Pro OS X Version 10.6.7 had crashed.  Command+Opt+Esc would not work to reboot, so I had to press the power button to reboot.  Once it booted, I was able to launch applications in my doc, but when I went to open Finder, I got the error message 10810 that finder could not be opened.  I noticed that my desktop was completely empty, no icons.  When I close all applications, there is no bar at the top of the screen.  The little light below Finder that indicates that an application is running is flickering.  When I Command+Opt+Esc, Finder appears to flicker in the listings as well, so I can neither quit Finder nor open Finder.
Is this a virus or something else and do you have any ideas how I can fix it?
    Thank you!

    Could be corrupted Finder preferences...
    Go to ~/LIbrary/Preferences
Move the com.apple.finder.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
MIght be a good time to see how much free space there is on the startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
If you can't open the MacintoshHD icon, launch Disk Utility in /Applications/Utilities
Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then check Available and Capacity at the bottom of the window.

Since upgrading to OS 10.9.5 my desktop is missing (no drives or files) and I can't open finder or empty trash. I can only access programs in the dock. I tried zapping the PRAM and it fixed it but the next time I restarted same problem.

    You might have corrupt .plists.
    Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plists from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plists to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer one.

  • Hard Drive Opens New Desktop Session

Having a weird bug after 10.9.1 update.  When ever I open my primary HDD, it default to Desktop #2.  I have Mission Control/Spaces setup with 4 desktops.  Never had this happen.  Normally drive just opens to what ever desktop I am on at the time.  Now it switches always to #2.  Anyone else having an issue like this?
    Thanks.

I discovered another issue that is somewhat related.  So let's say I move an application, for instance Mail, to a new desktop space (#2, 3, 4) and then switch back to desktop 1.  Normally if I click the mail icon on the dock, I will be quickly switched over to the space that mail is open in.  After 10.9.1 this no longer works.  I can click on the icon over and over, I need to manually jump into my hotcorner and manually go to the desktop space where Mail is sitting.
These problems are really trying me crazy.
No one noticing anything wrong with their Mission Control?

  • NULL SID Security Log Event ID 4625 when attempting logon to 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Session Host

This is a new deployment of Server 2008 R2 in a newly created 08 R2 active directory on a newlyt installed 08 R2 RDSH server.
A new generic user is created in AD. That user can log on to the terminal server on the console just fine. But that user cannot logon via RDP. Furthermore, the domain admin credentials also cannot logon via RDP.
When either set of credentials is used, the logon attempt registered in the Windows Security Even Log as a denied attempt with Event ID 4625 reporting a NULL SID.
Troubleshooting: The RDSH has already been disjoined and rejoined to the domain. Also, curious note, there are three ways to save the user account on the RDSH server as a valid user account which has permissions to logon. The one Microsoft recommends is to open computer management and edit the remote desktop users group. When I the accounts here and click apply, they immediately dissapear. Secondly, I can open the computer properties and go to the remote tab. There I find the user accounts added using the previous method are enumerated but not displaying correctly. They show up with the RDSH server name and a question mark. The last way, is to open the Remote Desktop Session Configuration tool and edit the properties of the rdp connection and go to the security tab. This was the only place I could get a user to ‘stick’ but the logon attempts still show a NULL SID and access is denied.
I have scoured every bit of RDS documenation I can find with no luck.
    Thanks,
    Chris

I am also experiencing this issue.
    2008 servers, 2007 exchange on server 2008.
These are fresh servers, fresh AD. Users can log onto domain normally, RDP not working for admin accounts, generating same errors as posted above.
The bigger issue, is that we have a cisco messaging service account that is generating this error on the DC's and the Exchange server as well. The service basically emails users voicemails to their inbox. The user we've created for the cisco service is unable
to authenticate to the exchange server, in turn generating the same errors posted above as well. We can log on to the domain with this account just fine.
Any ideas on this? We have not tried re-adding the servers to the domain.
