Open Firewire windows revert to Computer after restart

No luck finding anything on this problem.
I have a Firewire drive with 6 partitions on the
iMac. If I leave a folder window open in the Finder
and restart, the window is open again but lists the
root directory; what you'd get if you choose
"Computer" in the Go menu.
I have only myself set up as a single user with admin
privileges, and all the Firewire partitions have that
user selected as owner and group, with "ignore
ownership..." checked. Permissions are 777.
If I leave a window open displaying something within
the internal HD, that will be displayed correctly.
This is new behaviour, I guess I expected it to pass
so I didn't really notice it at first or note what
might have caused it.
It's probably related to Tiger's new launchd which is used to start processes. Prior to Tiger, OSX had elaborate procedures to start all the pieces of the operating system in a particular order. Apparently the FireWire disks were mounted before the finder was started, thus the finder could open the windows for the remembered folders on the FireWire disks. With Tiger, launchd starts many pieces simultaneously and complete at their own pace. In your case, the FireWire disks are not yet mounted when the finder is creating its remembered windows, so it can't set them to the original folders on the FireWire disks.

I can't open any windows in Safari, even after installing Snow Leopard, not even the "About Safari" info window. I'm using Firefox to get online. I can open the program itself, but can't do anything else. Not possible, since there are no viruses for Mac OS X. You should ask your son what site he was one and whether or not he downloaded and installed anything. And you should turn off wireless networking and delete any networks that you didn't specifically setup. Use Ethernet to connect to your modem/router for Internet access.
Are you sure that Twitter is asking to give somebody access to your account, or just authorize them to follow your tweets? I've never seen Twitter do the former for anyone, ever.

Window size always changes after restart in 10.9.2. How can I fix it- as in older OS-Versions?

I'm using OSX for a long time. Now I bought a new MBA 10' with Mavericks 10.9.2. I'm really tired about ever changing window sizes after restarting my MBA, espacialy the sidebar is skipping to a wider size, then the window, I used before turning the mac of. No window opens, in exact that size I used before. Of course, I used to fix it, but never menaged to do so.
Have you any idea to solve my problem?

Do you uncheck the "Reopen windows when logging back in?" box? If so, does the issue occur when you leave the box checked?
That might be the culprit.

Finder window size reverts to default after restart

My Finder window doesn't remember the last size I set it to after a restart.
Mountain Lion was a downgrade - there are many things about Snow Leopard that were better...but Jaguar was the best. Powerbook G4 was pure freedom all the way through Tiger.

For the Finder window issue, it appears that all of you .DS_Store files are corrupted. Step one is to remove them all. To delete the .DS_Store files, run this in the Terminal app:
sudo find / -name ".DS_Store" -exec rm {} \;</
At the Password: prompt, carefully enter your admin password, since nothing shows up on the screen, and hit the return key. When the default prompt, usually the $ sign, pops up, quit the Terminal app, restart, and open a Finder window, set it up the way you want, and click on Use as Defaults. All subsequently opened or created folders should retain that view. Do note that that only applies to icon and list view.

.pdf File Type Extension reverts to nothing after restart

Adobe reader works correctly however after I restart the computer the Default File Type Extension resets to nothing for .pdf extensions.
I have reinstalled Adobe reader, done sfc /scannow, used a registry repair, manually changed the file extension type through windows.
Again everything works, and after I change the file extension type it will stay changed until restarting the computer then it reverts to no known file type extension and I have to right click open with.
Thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.

If you look at your PDF files with Windows Explorer (after the extension has "disappeared"), what does it show in the Type column?

Finder window settings not "sticking" after restart (boot drive only)

I have an annoying problem with the finder window only on the boot drive not holding whatever settings (list view) I give it after a restart. Odd part of it is that it reverts to some old settings I had at one time in icon view. When I switch back to list view I get a view with the library folder opened. I figure there is some corrupt setting somewhere, I deleted the desktop db for that folder with no luck. I have no problem on any other drives.

navigate to ~(yourhome)/library/preferences and trash these two files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then log out and back in again.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

Firefox Opening new windows reverts to original Window

Just started with this problem, when I open a new window which is my preference rather than Tabs I find that whereas it used to open the new window and that was active, it is now opening a new window and then reverting to the original one.
Any ideas?

I have the same issue. When opening a new window and opening either gmail.com or facebook.com, the original window gets focus once the website is finished loading.
This is not an add-on issue, as it also occurs when running in safe mode.
After also disabling all plug-ins, I noticed the problem was gone. I have found the problematic plug-in after re-enabling the plugins one-by-one. The problem is '''Shockwave Flash'''.
My plug-in was out-of-date, so I installed the most recent version (11.4.402.287) but the problem still occurs. '''The only solution is to disable the plug-in altogether.'''

Windows service not lauching after restarting Xserve.

Windows service was fine to start, not sure if it was after a update or what. When doing updates and restarting the server, Windows Services will not start back up, I have to manually start it back up. No other service has issues. This is not a huge deal until I was away and none of the Windows clients could get on to the server for 2 days. HELP!

I am using XP, Firefox 17.0.1 and the latest version of flash. Have
automatic updates and installs. Everything was working a few months ago and
then just started clearing everything out all by itself. No settings were
changed. There are some sites now such as my bank that do not even put
anything in the panel, like before. Other sites I used do not even request
to be allowed or denied. I can still use the sites that request space, but
as soon as I leave the page, everything is wiped out. I need to find
something else that actually works all of the time, unlike Adobe.

I have stated every issue I’ve had so far in a fairly clear and concise way. I think if you read what I wrote, it all makes logical sense as to what is going on. Windows 7/8 would work just as well on a Mac if it was supported the same way the OS is for other OEMs.
As I stated earlier in the post, I’m having these same issues in windows 8, not just 8.1, which is the reason for the post. I know the difference between supported by drivers and not supported by the manufacturer. The fact that when Haswell mbp’s came out and no revision to bootcamp for the new hardware was released to fix issues with installing windows on the new hardware shows Apple clearly Is not supporting bootcamp as strongly as they advertise.
I am being realistic on Apple having drivers early. Anyone with an MSDN subscription can download the RELEASE version of windows months ahead of the actual release, I’m 100% sure if any average consumer can do that by paying $100 and saying they are a developer, apple can do it just as easily.
You aren’t much help, you haven’t answered really anything to my post, nor have you contributed any knowledge that wasn’t clearly posted above, so don’t say anything if you don’t have anything to contribute.
By the way, my rant is directed at apple, as you can see because I am saying “Apple, if you are going to…” because this is an Apple forum on Apple’s website. It is not directed to end users, clearly.

Windows lock screen lost after restart

I have a PC that's running Windows 8.1.
The lock screen picture applies ok for when the PC is locked, however if the PC is restarted the lock screen changes back to another image.
Any ideas out there?

Is this system in domain ?
The new group policy is named “Force
a specific default lock screen image” and can be found in this path in the group policy editor: “Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative

IChat windows loose data after restart

Hello,
If one keeps a series of ichats open and shuts down ichat and restarts the computer, after restarting ichat the windows are still open but know have a question bubble with the name of the person previously ichated with.
using 10.6
under a previous version (10.5?), after a restart the windows reopened but with the ichats still showing. How do we get back this behavior?

In iChat 4 you had "Remember Open Chats across Launch" which displayed the last chats you had.
In IChat 5 you have a different setting linked to Save Transcripts.
Save Transcripts has to be On.
You can then set to Display a certain number of Chats.
This does not replicate the Remember Open Chats.
Last Chat when a Buddy is also clicked in the Buddy List will display the last chat you had with them.
The Last 25 Chats option (as with other of the numbers) will display the last chosen number of IMs from that chat (Or the last chat of another selected Buddy)
(Returning to Last Chat then only displays the Last IM).
Now as iChat 5 is a new version the .plist is rewritten the first time.
This has a direct effect on the Last Chat options.
The .plist is now missing some info about the Last Chats although it can search and display the Last Chat with a Buddy if a Buddy is clicked.
It seems to get better as time goes on about displaying Open chats on Quit like the previous version if left at Show Last Chat rather than one of the numbered choices.
Another way to explain it.
In the File Menu of iChat you have Recent Items.
This lists the last Text Chats and Video or Audio chats you had and Saved Chats
(The Number of items displayed here is set in System Preferences > Appearance > Number of Documents)
It seems that there is a correlation between th Recent Items and the Saved Chats and the Last Chat has to be in both to replicate the "Remember Open Chats across Launch"
It is not a perfect match for the previous setting.
It does seem to improve.
Having said that I played and tweaked mine running though all the option I could think off and then left it for a while.
Now mine seems to remember the Last Open Chat properly. (I may have beaten it in to submission)

Azure VM does not connect via RDP after restart

I have restarted my VM running Windows Server 2012 from Windows Azure Portal. After restart it is unable to connect via RDP, although I can connect to it via FTP I had created already. I have ticketed the issue at Windows Azure Support but no reply in past
2 hours.
Any help please?

I have tried everything I could to fix this, but some things require actually being on Firefox, and since I cannot get on, I cannot click on the tabs to do it. I have even totally uninstalled firefox, and that has not fixed this. I still get the same message that firefox is running and I need to close it or restart (which I have also tried dozens of times). I have removed things like Java, and that has not helped either. If I cannot even get on line in firefox, how can I fix this. I am not crazy about using internet explorer, but right now, it is my only option. I even tried to start in safe mode, and the same message box pops up!
