Open html of sliced images in template

Hi,
I have a pretty ok site with frames and I have finaly decided
to change it to a noframe site even though it works great. Everyone
is telling me to !
I have created a template from the selection in CS4.
In photoshop I sliced an image that I want as menu bar but
how do I open the "save for web" html that contains all the images?
With a frame I just open in frame but I just cannot figure it
out.
Any help is highly appreciated !
BR,
Peter

Or I am not the only one in the world that talks to thenselves.
That's not necessarily bad - unless you carry on a three-way conversation. Then its time to consider the white coat with the cuffs of the sleeves sowed in the back.
NOTE: This is meant as a Joke.  (although it is true I do talk to myself from time to time. Its called thinking out loud.)

  • Can No Longer Open html files

I Fireworks 8, I was able to save a web page as a complete
document to the local drive and then open it with Fireworks to work
with it. With CS3 all I get is a totally white canvas. I have
checked that my preferences are all set the same, and they are. I
use this feature all the time for a variety of functions, i.e.,
combining slices to make one gif, etc. Am I missing something - or
is that function no longer there?
It shows it can open Html files, but it will not even open
it's own exported html files. Get "internal error." The file is
fine ( and it just created it.)

No, it is not a bug at all. It is all about how you do this
and understand the primary functionality of Fw itself, and how it
do for you. If you don't fully understand how it works, then you
have problem trying to understand how it works and what's not.
Then, perhaps that you clearly do not understand the
functionality of Fw CS3, and how it relates to exported HTML files
    created by Fw CS3.
It is very common, wide misunderstanding among other,
especially with newbies using Fw app, and they thought that if Fw
could create HTML code. Actually, it was created by side of
pre-scripted coding inside the app itself, and that it does the
    rest for you.
As for working with sliced images around Fw CS3, as any
legacy versions of Fw, the concept of sliced images is often up for
the air and debates. Everyone have different opinion about sliced
images, and what not and what's cool.
I personally dislike sliced images. If having lots of sliced
images, means slower downloading time and more codes involved.
I get the feeling that you really not understand how Fw
works, and how it relates to your question about HTML code in Fw.
Please try to understand that FW itself CANNOT edit HTML. It only
just exports html code for you. However, it is important to note,
it is NOT perfect html code.
It is best IF you work with pre-scripted HTML code in
Dreamweaver, or any web authoring app to work with HTML directly.
If you are not taking my advice, so be it. I am out of this
    discussion. End of discussion!
    And good luck!

The reasons for opening an html file in Fireworks have
nothing to do with Dreamweaver or coding, just images and image
manipulation. If open html is an option, as it is, it should open
the file. It used to open with all slices intact, and all html code
behind it. Now it just opens a white page.
It is a bug and problem since it does not do as it should.

  • Sliced images shift

    Hi all,
I am new to dreamweaver, but have been reading books and
checking out online tutorials. I created a design in photoshop and
created layer based slices where appropriate then saved for the web
as html with images. I brought that html page into dreamweaver and
tried to link one of my buttons to another page. As soon as I link
it all of my sliced images are shifted leaving me little white gaps
between them. I have no clue whats causing this. Any suggestions
are greatly appreciated! I tried just creating a CSS template and
making links and they don't cause any shifting at all. So I am
obviously doing something incorrect with my PS template.
I noticed it show up when I preview with firefox and not
    safari.
    Thanks in advance.

The problem is that you used a graphics application to create
your html. The html created by Photoshop and other graphics apps is
fragile and subject to break anytime you make changes to it, or if
the user changes things like the text size. The real solution is to
use PS for images, and create your layout in Dreamweaver. Of
course, you will need to have an understanding of html, css and
    page layout techniques.

  • Sliced images moving in DW

    Hi all,
I am pretty new to development in DW and I have a question that I hope I am putting in the right place.
I have already sliced up the template and imported them into dreamweaver. However, when I am creating a contact us page and input the table for the form, the website becomes distorted. I believe it may be the size of the form itself causing the issue but no matter how much I lower the width in DW it still looks distorted.
Does anyone have any idea how I can stop the sliced images from moving in DW once I import them?
    Thanks in advance
    andersonr09

I can take a look, but I don't know of any off the top of my head.  Basically you could start that tutorial at the following:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_fw_css_pt1.html#articlecontentAdobe_nu mberedheader_4
Creating slices in Photoshop is very similar except that where Fireworks has the box where it says the "Type: Image; JPEG", Photoshop will do that in the Save for Web Dialog.  But with that said, Parts 2 & 3 are where it leaves the Fireworks plane and goes in depth with how to structure HTML and CSS in Dreamweaver which is the preferred method.  The Save For Web where Photoshop generates HTML is more for prototyping.  What that means is basically just showing someone an image of what the web page will look like without doing much coding so that if design changes need to be made, they are done before the content gets entered in as HTML since things could get messy at that point.
    Pt. 2 http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_fw_css_pt2.html
    Pt. 3 http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_fw_css_pt3.html

  • Problems with sliced images in dreamweaver

Hi, when i uploaded a template from photoshop into dreamweaver and typed in "index" in the link box, the entire page expands a little with white spaces in between all sliced images. How do i fix it?

You may want to have a read of these two articles from the DW FAQ:
    Posting code in this forum
    How to get help quickly
From the image it looks like the page is breaking due to very poorly written html.  As someone pointed out, do not use an image editor to write the code for your page.    Slice up the PS comp and build the page in Dreamweaver.
If you are new to Dreamweaver, it may be worthwhile to take a tour of the following tutorials:

  • Building a site out of sliced images from photoshop

I've just begun a web design class and i assume that the instructor has us building sites this way cuz pretty much none of us have any idea how to use CSS (pretty much everyone in the class is brand new to web design, myself included).  So i'm pretty much trying to build the entire thing/layout with a 945 pixel wide table (height to be 625 when everythings in place).
It isn't working though, once i start splitting and merging stuff gets really messed up, like the measurements of cells appear to almost randomly change and when i try to change them back it like, wont work.
i seriously dont know why this isnt working, google search has answered this question not at all.  i just dont think i dont know how to use tables, which i need to do in order to complete his assignments.
    plz halp meh T.T

Building a site out of sliced images from Photoshop is a poor way for your instructor to begin your web design/Dreamweaver learning.
Site layouts built this way are fragile and inflexible.
Once you start splitting and merging cells and moving cell borders around, you open a world of debugging and troubleshooting.
Much better to learn some elementary HTML and CSS first then learn Dreamweaver in a weekend. Dreamweaver makes so much more sense when you do.
As it is, you're trying to learn Dreamweaver, HTML (and a little CSS) simultaneously on the fly. Really inefficient way to do it.
Tables in web design are elastic by nature i.e. they collapse to fit snug against the content inside them.
Since you're already on this journey, remove your cell dimensions entirely and see what happens.

  • Image in template background do not appear in browser

    Hello all
I run a site ( http://ntp.neuroscience.wisc.edu/ ) that uses templates for backgrounds/spry menus for its pages. We currently use three templates to display backgrounds across the site and up until a few days ago everything displayed fine, until suddenly the main banner picture (bannerIndex.jpg) dissapeared from across all our pages, both in IE8 and Firefox 3.5. It used to display above the red spry menu tabs on the top of the whitespace. Check the index.dwt file attached to see where exactly. To my memory I didnt edit any of the templates or delete any of the image files, much less reupload the templates or download them from the remote server. I went back and reinserted all the pics into the templates, made sure they were attached to their right pages, and uploaded everything, but to no avail. the only major edit to the site I can remember that might have had an effect was that I rearraged some files on the local/remote server, but the shifts were within the same directory level and the files involved were not templates. I shifted everything back to their original order and still the problem persists. I'm attaching the code below (site first follow by the template which attaches to it) as it shows in the dreamweaver code editor (i'm using dreamweaver cs3) and I'll also attached the actual html and dwt files. again, the picture that does not show is bannerIndex.jpg and it should be above the spry menu tabs.

sorry for the messy code, i inherited this site from the previous employee and havent had a chance to optimize. even though I just joined the forums, thanks for your help!

You only need to post a URL to your web site. We can see your code in Browser.
So, your page looks OK to me in Firefox, but when I tried to check it in IE, it choked my browser and closed it.
You have quite a few code validation errors - no document type declaration, etc... Start by fixing these reported errors.

  • Can't import/open HTML files in Fireworks CS4

I'm trying to import/open HTML files into Fireworks CS4 to do some redesigning. I inherited the job of redoing my companies website and we believe the person who created our website created the site using Dreamweaver 8. Unfortunatley that person moved on to a new job across the country and we can't ask him exactly how he created our website.
When I try to open some of the HTML files in FW I get the message: "Could not open the file....Fireworks could not find an HTML table in this file". Next I tried creating a new, very simple HTML page in Dreamweaver CS4 that contains just a few lines of text and 1graphic (we just bought the CS4 web suite). Again, I get the same error.
Other files give me a slightly different error message when trying to open them in FW, "The HTML document contains one or more images with absolute web addresses for the source. Fireworks cannot handle these images. --click OK-- (next error message) Could not open the file. Fireworks has encountered a problem with the HTML in this table. Verify that the HTML is valid"... and then it closes and nothing loads into FW. Bummer.
I've searched on these forums and can't find any solutions to this problem although I found a few people experiencing the same problem.
Do I need to do something to the Dreamweaver created HTML's to get them to open in FW? Any help would be appreciated.

Fireworks is a graphics editor that can export code; it is not an HTML/code editor.
If you have exported HTML from Fireworks, you ought to be able to re-import that, but I would think most people who use Fireworks exported code would just modify their Fireworks document and re-export. (Fireworks' code is not robust and it is only intended for mockups and prototypes. Fireworks is not intended for developing and maintaining live Web sites; Dreamweaver is.)
If your developer used Dreamweaver, then I really don't expect that Fireworks would be able to import that, nor any code that isn't in exactly the format that it can export. If you know your developer used Fireworks, then you need to look for .png files. Fireworks uses an enhanced version of the PNG format for its native document format.
If you are making small adjustments to your site, then you might be better off working in Dreamweaver. If you're doing a site re-design, then Fireworks is an excellent tool for laying out your design and producing your graphics, but you will, at some point, need to move over to Dreamweaver for coding.

  • Open html page in same window

    Hi,
I have an OA page for Travel and expense; it has a button linked with an html page. If we click the button it will open a html page to download “Spreadsheet template”.
My requirement is right now the html page is opening in a separate window, but I want to open in same page. Any help to achieve this.
    Thanks
    Chandra

    Chandra,
Kindly check the code that is being used to handle the button to download Spreadsheet template. You can get clues. There is a good likelihood that the target frame is set as _blank. I am sure you would get clues.
    Regards
    Sumit

in all opened Html reports... If I don't want to go to the all
desination and search one by one.. Is there any method to search the
result in all opened reports at that time..
I am very confulsed .. I have no Idea how I am gonna solve it... If anybody can help.. I would really appreciate that.. Thanks..

Thanks Justin I have managed that problem..
I am stuck at another one.. If you can help.. I have also posted addressing you in another relavent Thread..
I have a spreadsheet data which has 286*516 Pixels data. Data is 16bit
(from which only 12bit is usefull). Each data is a Level of a Pixel. I
    want to Display Grayscale Image.
I have used 3D Graph to display it and projection XY selected . I am
getting My image as grayscale Image but somewhat slow display if I
    continously run it.
Second Method I tried is Directly "some 2D Graph" ( Sorry I forgot the
Name.. I will get it next time) which directly display that 16 bit
spreadsheet file. But it has only 255 levels so it didn't utilized my
    data and resolution is poor.
    My doubts are..
    1. Is 3D graph method I am using is Actually displaying my 16 bit image.
    2. In 3D graph method : Because of that 12 bit format of my data and I
had to convert it in 16 bit I am loosing any levels or
        Resolution ?
    3. Is there any way of increasing 255 level to 16bit level 2D Graph method.
    4. Is there any method that can display my 16bit information as a image utilizing all my levels.
Please Do me a favor .. thank you

  • Can I include both CSS and HTML codes in one Open HTML Editor.

Somehow Cell phones are not properly reading css codes. Is there any way to include both CSS and HTML codes in one Open HTML Editor?

Hammad, their code is fairly mobile friendly.  Per my other discussion with you ( http://topliners.eloqua.com/thread/8532 ), Eloqua's code is responsive for the most part.  Most of their issues lie with the styling of the email where you will get different fonts and different sized fonts throughout the email and some other minor display issues.
What you are trying to accomplish is extremely difficult to do because you do not have the access to the HTML to better control how the responsive template works which is why the Eloqua templates (and most ESP templates) stick to the more basic side of emails.
If you want to use Eloqua's WYSIWYG to make their responsive email you can do so, but I would recommend deleting all their body text before editing anything because of the inconsistencies in their code.  Otherwise, I think you would be better off coding the emails outside of Eloqua using a 3rd party editor whether it's something more robust like Dreamweaver or Coda, or whether you feel comfortable working in a more text environment with programs like Notepad++ or Brackets.
At the end of the day remember you are paying Eloqua for these and if you choose to stick with the WYSIWYG and you are not getting the results you expect you need to tell Eloqua through your support channels.

  • Export shrinks entire html page, including images!

I've just completed my first page in fireworks. When I export
the png to html (with the associated sliced images) the entire site
has been scaled down by about two thirds. The page width in
fireworks is 940 pixels and yet the exported html file has a table
width of 380 pixels. All the images are scaled down too.
    Any ideas????
    Thanks for your help!

Oh...man...there's a setting somewhere that is probably doing
this. I don't remember what it is, though. Hang on, I'll look and
see if I can find something. Probably before I do, though, someone
    who
does know exactly what it is will post the right
    answer.

  • Slicing images/Css

    Hello,
I am working on a site with a number of large-ish photos (
    http://www.rosieroo.com/design_one_home.html)
I was on this forum awhile back asking advice on slicing and
positioning with CSS and since then I have been working through
suggested tutorials. but I am still confused.
Most of the tutorials I have come acroos seem to be around
slicing/CSS image rollovers. I simply want the images to load
faster no need for roll over functionality.
I have also come across some sites saying slicing is a thing
of the past and no longer needed.
    Can anyone offer advice on:
    1) Does slicing increase the speed a page is loaded or does
it jus appear to load faster?
    2) With regards to my link above would slicing help this page
    load faster?
    3) If slicing is reccomended would it work to simply:
slice images > export images only
    >Put the images piece by piece into a div (this is what I
have done with the large images so i am assuming it would work with
mutiple smaller images? I have not used any positoning other than
inserting each piece -is that bad form?)
    4) or would it be better to position the images with CSS? If
so can anyone reccomend simple tutorial that would help me achieve
a fast loading CSS positioned page
    thank you,
    Shontelle

Ok I understand now and thanks for the comments.
    Cheers

here you can see a placeholder map of sweden thats were
i want the sliced map to be
you can view the working map here on
    www.365cityads

This kind of complexity would be much better handled via
    Flash, but that
may be outside your experience at this point.
The code you saw was NOT generated by Firefox; it was the
    code generated
by Fireworks to pull off the effect you wanted. The lag you
    experienced
was Firefox having to download the code to the user's browser
    and then
Firefox having to parse and display all the elements
Generally, overlapping slices is not a good idea for many
    reasons -
bloated code being one of them. Other issues that can occur
    are
unreliable image display, multiple - unnecessary - sliced
    images and
migraines from having to edit the code at the source level

  • Is it possible to use sliced images with fluid grids CS6?

I have 2 sliced images that I want to use in my page. The site has been designed with fluid grids CS6. As soon as the page is made smaller 1 of the images shrinks while the other remains the same size. Is there any way to make this work or is it just not possible using fluid grids?

    There's nothing on this page.
    http://www.lavishvegas.com/las_vegas_barsx.html
If you want images to rescale to device width, the parent container must be fluid (% width).
The images need a CSS max-width of 100%. DW does this for you when you create a Fluid Grid layout.
Also, the native image must be inserted into the HTML foreground  with no stated height or width attributes.  If you set the height/width, it won't rescale to viewport width.
    Working example:
