Open iCal automatically at OS X start up?

I may have missed a post on this in my search--is there any way to set iCal so that it opens automatically when starting OS X? Thanks.

I have set iCal as a login item, and it is "on" when I login. But, what I would really like is to have it open, on the screen, when I login, so it is the first thing I see. Is there any way to do this?

Within the past 1-2 weeks when rebooting, or starting up windows 8 firefox opens up automatically, I went to startup and firefox isn't listed, need help on making firefox NOT startup automatically when windows 8 opens up, thank you.....

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

  • How to auto-open iCal at sign-in.

Is there a way to have iCal automatically open on my desktop when I log on? My aging one track mind seems to forget to check my calendar every day. I already am using the email alerts, but most times ignore my email account for days.
Thanks in advance for any help!

You can do this In System Preferences > Accounts. However, much easier is to click on the icon in the Dock when it is open and select Options (from the 3-part panel that appears), one of which is to have it open at Login.

  • I recently upgraded to snow leopard and now every time i open iCal i get multiple events to update in iCal

I recently upgraded to snow leopard and now every time i open iCal i get multiple events to update in iCal.  Except I don't know where these are coming from or why.   I've check iCal preferences and Help - can't find a way to stop this from happening automatically.  Any Clues?  Also, some of the events are already on my calendar and have been for quite some time.

    Greetings,
What do you mean by "events to update"?  Do you mean invites to new events or changes to existing invites?
    Troubleshooting:
    1. Your profile indicates you are running 10.6.7, 10.6.8 is the current version Apple > Software update.
    2. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal 1 at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps!

  • Firefox 8.01-- automatically loads the "Getting Started With Mozilla... " page

Firefox 8.01-- every time I start up, it automatically loads the "Getting Started With Mozilla... " page along with my Home page tab. How do I prevent the "Getting Started..." tab from opening?

    Hi ricklord303,
You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]].
There are steps in that article to reset your homepage preferences to default. I would try that first to clear out any strangeness. If that works, you can try setting your homepage again to your personal preference.
If that doesn't work you should look at [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+has+just+updated+tab+shows+each+time+you+start+Firefox this article about that specific issue] and the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved].
    Hopefully this helps!

iCal was linked to a gmail account I canceled.  When I open iCal, a message says iCal can't connect to the gmail account server.  Clicking OK repeats the message.  Clicking OK again causes iCal to quit. There is no opportunity to delete the link.  How can I eliminate the problem server or otherwise get iCal working again?  (OS 10.6.8)

The easiest way to fix the hosts file is to restore it from a backup that predates the modification, or to copy the unmodified file from another Mac. If you can't do that, then do as below.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    open -e /etc/hosts
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Paste into a Terminal window by pressing command-V. A TextEdit window should open. At the top of the window, you should see this:
    # Host Database
    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
    # when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.
    127.0.0.1                              localhost
    255.255.255.255          broadcasthost
    ::1                                        localhost
Below that, you may see some other lines. The first 9 lines should be exactly as above, apart from differences in the blank space within lines. Otherwise you can't use this procedure—STOP and ask for guidance.
If the contents of the TextEdit window are as described, close it, then enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (by copy and paste):
    sudo sed -i~ '10,$d' /etc/hosts
You may be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Confirm. Quit Terminal.
If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Log in as one and start over.
That will fix the hosts file. There is now a copy of the old hosts file with the name "hosts~" in the same folder as "hosts". You can delete the copy if you wish. Don't delete the file named "hosts".

  • How do i stop programs from automatically running when i start up my macbook?

how do i stop programs from automatically running when i start up my macbook?
programs such as.. email and Skype.
When i go to system preferences, then users & groups, then to my name, log in items ....this box is clear, i have unchecked everything, yet things still start up......

sometimes these applications will have a setting in the preferences to not open on login of computer. If you see none of that, you can go into:
system preferences> Users & Groups > Select your user>Login Items.
unlock the settings by hitting the lock icon on the bottom left of the window then youll be able to uncheck these things from opening when you log in.
Hope this is helpful or answers the question.

  • Why is Terminal opening up automatically every time I restart my computer?

Just recently, I've noticed that, upon re-starting my computer, Terminal would open up automatically with the same window and text content. Below is a screen capture of what is showing up. It does not seem to affect my computer, but its a little unnerving. Any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks.

    Thanks - LexSchellings for replying.
Regrettably I do not have startupitems as a directory. Perhaps I am not interpreting this correctly, however here are my Library subdirectories - if you could point to the correct section that might be related.

  • After a reboot some apps open up automatically

i have an ongoing problem where some apps/programs like safari, mail, stickies, messages etc. automatically open up at restart or new start.
i have to do a force quit to close them. and yes i keep unchecking the tab at shut down to say dont repoen.
i have 10:8:2 mountain lion. any ideas..?

In addition to borgeano's idea (a very good one) open System Preferences - Users & Accounts - Log-in items and see if the offending apps are listed. If they are then highlight them and click the - symbol at the bottom of the box to remove them.

  • Automatic Sign in (procedure start)

One way to Sign in automatically, or at least start the Sign in procedure automatically, is to:
    1) Set your browser to startup with the same windows and tabs as last session;
    2) End each browser session with a tab open that contains a page that requires your being logged in, such as Your Stuff>Private Messages (whether you actually need it or not); you may close down non forum pages before ending the session to avoid them at startup;
    3) Upon startup, open the window with the tab in 2) and see whether you get signed in, otherwise sign in;
    4) When you are signed in, go to your other forum tabs/windows and Reload each.
Especially if you have other things you may do, such as starting up other applications or feeding the birds, you may save some time.

    Bernard,
Your post seems to demonstrate the limitations of the Translate button; unless it is a roundabout way of saying that you feed your birds (as food) for the cat.

I have the exact same problem. I have not changed anything. This is probably a bug or something that has gone bad with Mac OS X (10.7.2). I have not found any solution for this on the web.

  • A quick view marker in calendarto view upon opening ical monthly view

    Hi,
How can I put an asterisk/similar marker onto a date in the monthly view of ical to highlight that there is an event on that date, which can be viewed when first opening ical without having to actually open all the days to see if an event is on for that day? Sometimes I forget what i have on in a given month and have to open all dates to view them!
    Thanks,
    george UK

You must mean the mini calendar's monthly view, and you don't use the month view in iCal otherwise? In month view, you already have all events and days available so I don't think that's what you intended. I can't imagine opening individual days to see if events are contained within.
I think you can achieve what you want simply by toggling the month view at the top of the window, as the mini calendar is only useful for an overview of days. Two clicks at the top and you've scanned the entire month in detail then returned to your original view.
