Open illustrator and file in one action

Does anyone know if there is a setting I need to select so that if Illustrator is not currently open and i click on an .ai file, it opens the application and then opens the file in the application?
I am used to this action in CS6 but since using CC clicking on the file boots up Illustrator but then i get a blank screen and have re-select the file to then open the file in a tab.

yes it is. Everything is working fine, its just that if I havent launched illustrator CC in the first place before opening a file, the action of clicking on the file will initiate the booting up of illustrator (as expected), but then the file itself does not open in illustrator. instead illustrator just opens to a blank state. So, I then have to return to the file and click on it again to then have it open in illustrator.
I wasnt aware that you have to open illustrator first by itself before it will open a file. I am sure my CS6 version just used to boot up illustrator and then go on to open the file itself automatically

I have a client that has 5 or so Mac users who cannot open Illustrator and Photoshop files from our Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. At first, we thought it might be the size of the files over the network because some files are 2-3GB, but they are even having issues with files 200KB. We also tested network and bandwidth speeds, but they are all connected to Gigabit connections and running with PowerMacs.
Some users have a workaround by copying the files to their desktop to open, but that is becoming tedious as well.
Does anyone have another solution or know what might be cause to this?

How to save a list of open applications and files?

Many times I need to turn off my computer but I have many things open. A friend tells me to use <sleep> but sometimes I have to still turn off my computer for a reason. Is there a way to create a list of all the open applications and files that when I turn on my computer I know where I last worked? Maybe there is a way to do this automatically without writing down on paper? My english is not the best and I am sorry. Thank you.

Thank you Smokerz and ademsemir. I like alot both ideas that you have. Sometimes I will use one and sometimes I will use the other one. Maybe I can explain better what I am thinking to do. If I have 4 applications that I am using and different files in applications I hope to make a list of everything. I use Excel, Word, Preview, and Mail all the time. If I leave open emails when I close Mail then the same emails will open when I run Mail the next time. That is perfect for me. Excel, Word, and Preview only show the recent files I use if I close the applications and use them later. If I use shiftcommand4 it helps me alot because I click on Window and take a picture of the open files. I like shiftcommand3 also it helps if I use Expose and take a picture of the screen but the files with long names will cut off.
I try also Activity Monitor and Force Quit because they show me applications that I use but they do not show the files. If I have alot of things open in Firefox that I will use again but do not have time I use Bookmark All Tabs.

If you have the HP 2605dn printer attached to the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) (or any router) by Ethernet, then the AEBSn is NOT performing as a Print Server. Instead, the printer itself would have to be configured to provide this service.
I don't have this particular printer, but I do have a network-ready HP Officejet model that I have my network clients (Macs, PCs, & even Linux) connect to. The key is either using the unit's interfact panel to configure the appropriate network settings specific for your network.

Open Illustrator and I get crazy colors all over

When I open Illustrator, I get crazy colors all over in my work environment (not all over the screen and not just on the art board but in the whole environment.) The colors are not always the same. Opening and closing the file doesn't solve the problem, I have to close the entire program. I can have multiple .ai files open, one might have crazy colors but the other doesn't. If I open Illustrator again and then the file, the problem doesn't necessarily happen again even with a file that was recently crazy.

From your email this does sounds like something random and sporadic that does not have a pattern. Has this started recently, or is this on a new machine. Has anything changed such as a font you did not use before, or an image or strange file format some of these file have. A corrupt/damaged image of something like a cmyk jpeg(the format was meant to be RGB and some programs occasionally act funny) can cause something like this.
Are you able to solve this by possibly toggling preview mode Command Y(Ctrl Y Win), view >> overprint preview. The preview almost looks like a cable is loose from your monitor to computer. Clean your computer with a can of compressed air and focus on any dust laying on the monitor card and cable connections outside the computer.

I received an attachment in my BT emails and opened it,then printed it.When I tried to find it so I could copy it to my Outlook emails it had disappeared. Adobe said there had been an error opening it and the file could not be found.What happened and why?

I described what had happened when I tried to view a pdf, and said that when I found the pdf and tried to open it again, all I had was a message telling me there had been “an error” and as a result the file could not be found. I don’t know if it was hidden or deleted and asked “why did it happen”

Can Illustrator CS4 open files created in CS6? or can CS6 files be converted to be opened in CS4? like CS6 InDesign can be saved in IDML files to be opened in previous versions. Opening folders and files with enter/return instead of clicking

in finder i've found that i can open any folder/file with command-o. however, not all apps support that and sometimes i really need the way to open the file/folder with return key or enter one. and it's impossible)) so i have to take my mouse and click. any possible solution to make this "windowsy" behaviour here, on the mac?

In most all situations, when opening a file, you can use Command+Down Arrow to open it. Also, if you are in finder, you can use Command+Up Arrow to go up to the parent folder.

Opening Illustrator 7 files in CS3

I am a college student and am currently studying Illustrator in a class. The school uses the CS3 version. The instructor recommended that we download the free trial version of CS3, as the thirty days would be sufficient for the amount of time we'd spend on the Illustrator overview. The download isn't available anymore (at least, not the Windows version I'd need; Softpedia appears to have the Mac version), however, and so this isn't an option for me. We do have Illustrator 7 here at home, so I was wondering whether or not I would be able to open an Illustrator 7 file in CS3. I know there are difficulties involved in opening newer files in older software, but how hard is it to open an older file in newer software?
If this isn't possible, is there any way I can still access the free trial download for Windows Illustrator CS3 (since CS4's trials aren't out yet)?

You say that it says "can't open the Illustrator". Does that mean the application won't start?
Will the application start without double-clicking a document?
How are you trying to open the files (double-clicking the file, dragging the file over the application icon, using the application file-open menu)?
