Open in an old version

My graphics guy used InDesign CS3 to create a brochure for me. I have InDesign 2.0 on my computer. Is there a way he can export it so that I can edit it on my computer. I've been unable to open either the .inx or the .indd files that he has sent me.
Thanks

The only places you will find old versions of InDesign are likely to be private sales like the auction sites such as eBay. Be very cautious of any sale that way. In order to register and activate your software you will need a trnasfer of license form from the orignal license holder. Educatioanl versions are not transferable, nor are versions used as part of an upgrade path unless all versions in that upgrade chain are transfered together, and many users are either not aware of these limitations or don't care. And of course the Internet is littered with useless counterfeits, too.
If your colleague uses CS3, why would you want to buy CS2? Aside from the best advice, which is you both should upgrade to CS6 (and now is his last chance to do it at a discount), it would make more sense for you to buy CS3 than CS2.

Firefox 16.0.2 is the last version that works on an Intel Mac with the OS X 10.5 operating system.

Another possibility is to install the Firefox 10.0.12esr (BuildID=20130103094221) version that has more security updates, but misses features present in Firefox 16 (BuildID=20121024073032).

  • IMac intel running 10.9.2 upgraded pages last week, now the machine tells me I need a new version of pages to open documents.  Old version of pages is still in the dock, new version is in applications.  How do I make this thing work?  Thanks

This is frustrating, after going thru the process of updating last week and using pages successfully this machine now tells me the updated version is not the newest.  So I went to the app store to buy the new version and it tells me the new version is already installed.  Most likely the problem is because the old version is still in the dock.  I would think that the upgrade would have taken care of that for me.  So how do I get rid of the old version and make the new version my default?  Step by step please as I am not Mac literate even thought I've had this machine for over 3 years, it's still a foreign country to me.  Thanks SamO66

The icon in the Dock is nothing but an alias pointing to the actual application in the Applications/iWork folder.
Pulling it off the dock really does nothing. Particularly, as you will soon discover, it is the new Pages that is the problem.

  • Edit original (alt + double click) opens in an old version of CS

I have been using the alt + double click to open Illustrator files that I have placed in my InDesign document for months with no problems. When I alt + double click the placed image, it has always opened up in the latest version of Illustrator - CS5.5.  However, starting about two days ago, it now attempts to open the file in an older version - CS 5.0.  I am sure that the Illustrator files and the InDesign document were both created with the latest version of CS.
Is there any way to set the preference for the alt+double click to target the latest version again?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Eugene,
You and Bob are correct. There is no CS5.5 (for Illustrator).  I sincerely apologize for inflating my latest Illustrator version by 0.4 points.  I purchased the "CS5.5 master suite upgrade" and when I look in the CS 5.5 folder I see Illustrator CS5.1.  Illustrator 5.5 or 5.1 - either way, I'm referring to the latest version of the software.
I'm not "worrying" about anything.  All I wanted was a possible solution that would allow me to once again use the alt+double click to open and edit my Illustrator files in my latest version of Illustrator, not the previous version. Given that I have deactived the previous version, it makes it difficult to edit the file when it asks me to install CS5 again. Even if I hadn't deactivated it, I still would prefer to have the file open in the latest version, considering it had been doing that for the past two months before it suddenly stopped. I'm sorry that I was rude. It's just that "You are worrying about nothing" really isn't something that I can change in my preference setting to enable the alt+double click to work again.

  • Acrobat XI Pro shows that it has downloaded in the CC dropdown but I don't have a folder in my Applications folder and PDF files open to an old version of Reader.

I can't figure out how to open Acrobat XI Pro. It shows that it's downloaded in the CC dropdown but I can't find it anywhere on my machine. I've tried re-downloading it but nothing seems to happen. I've uninstalled all my old Acrobat versions thinking that would solve it but it didn't.

AdamSJarrett please see Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html for information on how to install Adobe Acrobat XI Professional.  In addition I would recommend reviewing Launch CC apps after install - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/launch-creative-cloud-apps.html.

  • My computer advised me to update several items, including Pages. I was working on a multi-page table listing Harley parts and it has to be very precise.  I couldn't open it w/old version anymore and was told by Support to trash the old one.  I do NOT like

I want to go back to Version 4.3, I do not like the new version of Pages.  this has messed up my whole day!

You should have the old Pages 4.3 in the application folder > iWork.
If you have saved the document (I hope you didn't) you can Export to Pages 09 in the File menu. Hopefully you didn't loose to much.

  • File opened as an old version

I recently created a file in Illustrator CS6 (Creative Cloud version), and saved it as PDF with illustrator editing capabillities preserved. It saved fine, but when I opened the file in Illustrator CS6 again for more editing today, it gave me an earlier version of the file instead of the lastest version that I saved last night. However, the file opened correctly in Quick Look, Preview and Photoshop CS6. I've tried to make a copy of the file, and open the copy in a different folder, as well as deleting illustrator preferences, but I had no luck. Please help, I dont want to spend another 1.5 hours to redo things that I've done. Thank you!!!

According to my timezone, you wrote this post shortly after midnight and it's now almost 10 in the morning with nobody having replied so far. Are you beginning to see why waiting things out on a forum might not be a good idea? Neither is saving critical data to a non-native format without having a backup or incremental versions to go back to. Really do read this (for next time):
    Work File Safety
That aside, you might try to place the file in AI to access its PDF parts or similarly, sanitize the document in Acrobat to strip the AI data and thus force any program to use the PDF content the next time you open it. Else you may also try to run AI in recovery mode and try to repair the file that way...

It only opened one time and it was very briefly..soon as i installed the new adobe flash that was when it crashed and I can't get it back..I went back to version 3.0 and everything is working again..please help

I still have the same issue..I did a complete uninstall and then reinstalled the new version like you said and it crashes before firefox even opens

  • After downloading new version of firefox, i didn't like it and attempted to restore my system to a previous time and version of firefox. Now firefox won't open, even the old version isn't there anymore.

I want to get firefox back, keeping all of the bookmarks.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    Uninstall your current Firefox version.
*Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Pages 5.2 documents unsuccessfully try to open with old version 4.3

I understand that I have two version of pages, new (5.2) and old (4.3), with separate icons in my Applications folder.
The way it has been working is this:
    • If I opened an document created with Pages 4, it prompted me to automatically update with Pages 5.
    • Documents created with the new Pages 5 could be opened, as expected, by just double clicking. The document would pop open with Pages 5.
Now, for some reason this is happening:
    • When I try to open a document created with Pages 5 by double clicking I get the message: "You need a newer version of Pages." If I right click the document I can select "open with." The window show "Pages (default) (5.2)" at the top and Pages (4.3) right below. I select "Pages (default) (5.2)" and the document opens.  It seems that my comuter is using the old version of Pages as the default, even though, according to the "open with" window, Pages 5.2 is the default.
    • When I open a document created with the old version, it opens using the old version and no longer prompts me to update it to the new version.
Is anyone else having this problem?  Any suggestions.

Try this. Select (but don't open) a document created with the new Pages. Press Command-I. Under "Open with", select Pages 5.2. Click on "Change All".
An alternative to try is to move the old Pages app to another folder. Do not delete the old Pages - you may need it later!
Be aware that once a document is converted to the new Pages format it will not open with the old Pages (unless you specifically export it in old Pages format). I mention this because the new Pages lacks features found in the old version and this might be a problem for you.

  • Content of illustrator file is different when opening in and old cs version.

    Hi all!
I have a very awful and urgent problem in my job right now, i design some advertisings that goes regularly from month to month, so some advertisings are just like the last month used but with some data changed.
    My problem:
I have an illustrator file (.ai) saved and created in CS3 with pdf compability, outlines, and files linked and included on the same cd,
but when opening the same .ai file in another machine but with CS2 (the client's PC).. it shows a very old version of the file with ALL linked files embebbed (and those are different that are on the cd!!)., in the CS3 file i saved and recorded on cd i replaced all things of course and re-save it. I don't know what is wrong, but when i open it in another machine (i.e. a Mac) it shows the correct version of advertising. But not with  the client's machine...
In my illustrator file, there is only text outlines and 2 psd. Each PSD have only 1 layer, 'cause they were flattened (thet are actually letters scanned).
So basically: My .ai file, created in CS3 in a Mac,  seems totally different and embebbed when opening in CS2 in a PC.
I hope someone can help me with this urgent matter Thanks a lot everyone!!

In regards to the illustrator file link not matching, there is nothing wrong with the .ai file., your problem is with the filenames on the linked images. Your linked images have the SAME EXACT FILENAME AS THE OLD ones connected to the clients machine. You need to break the link to the old bad files and re-establish them to your good files.
Use links palete Flyout menu >> link information to find the location of the images. Change the name of an enclosing folder, or some other method to break the link to old images. Relink to new images, by placing them next to the .ai file in the same folder, and  open the .ai file.

  • I am getting a default message when trying to open up itunes after downloading old version. why?

I have downloaded an old version of itunes (9.2.1) because i cannot stand the new version 11. At the end of downloading it, i tried to open it up and a yellow triangle fault popped up and told me it could not be opened because a new version created it. I have tried to download 3 old versions this afternoon. I have an old version on my computer still and I love it. I am trying to put an old, very user friendly version on my girlfriend's computer, but am having severe issues in doing so. Please advise!

See this post. To roll back to iTunes 9.2.1 you'll need a version of your database that was active back then. Alternatively you could delete the library file and let iTunes build a new one.
