Open in OS X encrypted files created under os 9 with "File Encryption"

Hello
I have a lot of files still encrypted by the tool "File Encryption" under OS 9.
Now I want to open them on my MacBook Pro under OS X! Is there a tool which can do this decryption. Or is their a Programm which can do an convert to a more up to date security program. Who has solved this problem? Please helpme with some tips! I have found nothing in the web or an versiontracker.com

AFAIK, you'll have to mount them in OS 9, save them as unencrypted, and transfer them to the new machine.

Yes, PROVIDED that the file has not been saved with any layers containing any of the specific new features introduced starting with Photoshop CC and higher.
If the file has been flattened or if it was flat to begin with there will be no problems.

Two users opened the same file at the same time with file on Win2K Server

I just had a problem with a file that could not be saved. After a little investigation I discovered that two users had the same file open at the same time. This is with both users using InDesign CS2 and saving to a Windows 2000 Server. Any ideas how this even happened? The only thing I can think of is if they both opened the file at the exact same time but even that I doubt. I guess the more likely possibility is that the user on 10.5 (which we have had a lot of problems with, it's hard to tell how many of them are CS3 problems (yes CS3) and how many are Windows 2003 Server problems) had InDesign CS2 flake out and not tell her the file was open. Has anybody else seen this? The other user was using 10.4. Both computers have the most recent updates for the OS and for their various adobe products.

I have videos on mov file and my quick time player does not play them.
The MOV file container is the generic QT file container. Any audio and video data compatible with the computer system used to create the file can be placed in the MOV file container. Unfortunate, other systems cannot play the file unless they too are configured with the same components as those used to create the file. The normal procedure here is to use the Finder "Info" or alternative media play "Inspector" window to determine what codecs were used to create the original file and, if they are available for your Mac, install them on your system for playback use. Also be advised that some "legacy" codecs may require playback in the QT 7 Player for proper QT support.
I opened with other players, there is no sound. Then I opened the same file on my windows 7, it plays perfectly with the sound and everything? What is the problem?
This would indicate these players either access your QT codec component configuration which does not include the required codec or the app has its own built-in codec support which does not include the required audio codec but you Windows 7 media player is configured with the required codec support. This may incidate the use of a really old codecs that may or may not be available/supported on a Mac any longer.

How do i make firefox automatically open a file. "Do this automatically with files like this from now on." does NOT work.

I have firefox set to Open .wav files with VLC and i have the check box marked to "Do this automatically for files like this from now on." But every time i click download for a .wav voicemail from gmail, i get the same dialog box. I just want firefox to hand the downloaded file to VLC and play it. I don't want to have to click anything after i click the download link. Isn't that action what i'm telling firefox to do after i mark the checkbox with "Do this automatically with file like this from now on." ? Isn't that implied with my selection of the box? How can i fix this?i want to click a "download" link for a .wav voice mail in Gmail and have it automatically play in VLC without any further interaction from me.

No it's saving the preferences and the check box remains checked from session to session. It will even continue to ask me to what to do with the file even in the same session when i try to download the same file again 5 seconds after i downloaded it the first time.

Creating an iOS App with File Sharing Activated

From what I can decipher, the only way for a user to retrieve a document created by an iOS app is through iTunes, but only if the app has file sharing activated.
Is there a way to create an iOS app in Flash CS5.5 and make it a file sharing app?

I used the following code for sharing files to documents directory, and it works just fine. I am able to access the files copied by the app.
I made this app using Flash Builder. I will share another one using Flash Pro, soon.

.PDF file transfer(SAP XI ) along with file name to SAP R3

I would like to transfer a .PDF file along with its file name to target system.I need to have target structure like,

Just make This File name which is sent Thru Source side as "Filename.PDF" to be passed to the target end
For example If the File name is XYZ
Field 1 has XYZ--

Opening files created on Pages '08 with Pages v.2

Hello,
I brought some word processing files home from work that I made on Pages v.3. (Yes, I'm lucky enough to have a new Mac at work)
Anyway, I come to open them up at home and I can't open them because I have the older version of Pages. (That immediately reminded me of the .docx fiasco...I'm a little peeved at Apple for reminding me of Microsoft right now.) Is there any way around this? I can't open the file in TextEdit, either.
Another question: if I do upgrade to iWork '08, will I have to pay the full price, or is it discounted when upgrading from version 2 to version 3?

When saving your Pages document at work, click the box in the save dialog to save a copy as iWork '06 before sending it. It would be impossible for programmers to know what features & file format a future version of the program would have to include translators.
You could download the iWork '08 trial to open those files for now. But if you decide not to buy iWork '08 for home, remember to save any documents in iWork '06 format before the 30-day trial runs out.

Unwanted Pillarboxing in 4:3 .mov file created from 4:3 .avi file

I have been having problems prepping 4:3 .AVI and .DV files for use in Final Cut Express 4. Final Cut Pro is happiest using DV/DVCPRO .mov files, so I have been using Quicktime Pro to do the conversion. The problem is that QTP adds pillarboxing into the video converted from the AVIs: approximately 7 pixels wide black bars on the left and right edges of the video frame. The black bars are NOT visible in the original AVI when it is viewed in QTP, no matter what presentation aperture I select in the QTP Movie Properties window. The black bars are visible in the converted file (DV/DVCPRO .mov) created from the AVI when I view it in QTP, in any presentation aperture but "Clean".
If I drop the .mov files into either iMovie 6 or FCE 4, the bars are visible. If I drop the original AVI into FCE 4 or iMovie 6, there are no black bars. Interestingly, when I drag the .DV files iMovie 6 creates from the AVI out of iMovie and then play it in QTP, it does not have black bars (using any presentation aperture). I can drop this .DV into FCE 4 and see no black bars. If I use QTP to convert the original file AVI to the same .DV format as created by iMovie, I get black bars!
Quicktime and Quicktime Pro Version is 7.3.1.
The initial AVI format is: Apple OpenDML JPEG, 640x480 (its 4:3 video with square pixels), 30fps, progressive, millions of colors, Sound: 8-bit unsigned integer mono, 11.024kHz.
The output QT .mov file format I am using is: DV/DVCPRO, 4:3, 29.97fps, progressive, Sound : 16-bit 48 kHz, Stereo.
I have tried various output sizes: 640x480, 720x480 4:3, 720x486 4:3, "Compressor Native" (which should be the same as 720x480 4:3), and "Current" (which says its using 640x480). All the variations generate black bars. Out of desperation, I even tried exporting interlaced, rather than progressive, and of course that had no effect. I get exactly the same behavior in MPEG Streamclip, so it seems possible there may be something deep in Quicktime itself that is responsible, not just QTP.
QTP seems to want a square pixel 640x480 4:3 video to be 654x480 to get it to 4:3. That's a 4.0875:3 aspect ratio. I have been searching high and low on the net for definitive info on this. I have seen references to Apple adding the notion of "Aperture" to the QTP interface and to using 4.09:3 aspect ratios, and Apple saying there is no real defined standard. Whatever that means.
Does anyone know what is going on here? Can anyone point me at a web page that explains Apple's ideas about aspect ratios? Is there a checkbox in QTP that I have overlooked that would give me control over this behavior?
As described above, iMovie 6 certainly seems to know how to use the Quicktime engine in such a way not to introduce the black bars. It just doesn't create the format I need!

I think I just found the solution to my problem. When I open the original AVI file and look in the Movie Properties Presentation tab, the "Conform to Aperture" option is checked, and set to "Clean". If I uncheck it and THEN export the movie to either a .mov or .dv file, Quicktime Pro doesn't add black bars on the left and right in the output movie, and the resulting file works great in FCE4 and iMovie 6!
I thought the conform to aperture was just a viewer mode, and didn't realize it could modify the content of the video during conversions. Still, I would still be interested if anyone could provide links to web pages that explain this better. Thanks.

Raw file created by Nikon D7000 with multi-exposure

After recent updates to ACR6.3 etc., I find all my photos taken by D7000 with multi-exposure turn into PINK colored when opened by ACR. I have no problem in opening other raw files taken by D7000 without multi-exposure nor those taken by D700 (not D7000) with multi-exposure. I don't know whether it is something wrong with my setting or this is a bug in ACR6.3. Any one has similar issue?

File paths does not match with file name

Hi,
somehow iTunes does not properly file my audiobooks. Eventhough all audiobooks are marked as media type: AudioBooks and Genre: AudioBook (German: Hörbuch), but when looking in Music --> iTunes --> iTunesMedia --> AudioBooks there's only a few AudioBooks that I bought with Audible.
All the other AudioBooks are stored I don't know where. When opening the information about an AudioBook, and select "overview" it says at "location" ...iTunesMedia/Music/... and an artist name or compilation followed by an artist name.
How can I easily redirect iTunes to store the AudioBooks in AudioBooks and not under some wired musican's name where I never placed the audiobook before
Any idea? Does anybody know of this bizare problem?

thanks for the tip, but since I have my iTunes Library on a NAS I have to direct iTunes every now and than via "choose library" to the folder and it doesn't make a difference...
I think it's somehow due to my iTunes Match. I know they do not sync audiobooks, but they mess up pretty much everything else within my library. Songnames here and there and especially cd covers!
Any other idea how to get it straigten out again?

SOLVED: Some files not being picked up with File: protocol

Hello all,
I'm doing some testing of the B2B server on a laptop and seeing some weird behaviour. I have the B2B server set up much like the 850 inbound scenario for the tutorial, except that I am using AS2 over generic exchange with a FILE: transport server. I have "Shoppers" set up as the remote trading partner.
Now for the weirdness. If I put a file in the incoming directory called "ACME_850_4010_1_12345.edi" (it's the one I used for the tutorial, it is picked up fine by the B2B server; it errors out (as expected) because I don't have a trading partner called "ACME" in my setup. However, if I drop a file in the incoming directory called "Shoppers_850_4010_1_12345.edi" with the same exact content as the ACME file - the B2B server never picks up the file to process it. The other weird thing - after putting the Shoppers file in the directory, the B2B server just stops picking up files from that directory altogether until I restart the B2B server.
Any ideas?
DOH - files were not exactly the same. Missing carriage return at the end of the file. Adding it seems to have solved the issue.

Trading Partner identification by default is based on the Exchange protocol and in your case of Generic Exchange , it is based on name of the file or the Directory name depending on the following property.
Property:           oracle.tip.adapter.b2b.allTPInOneDirectory
Type:           boolean
Default Value:      false
Description:
If set to true, enables the identification of all files dropped into a particular directory with the trading partner name identified by the directory name: Example: E:\Partners\Acme
The default is to identity each file by prefixing the file with the Trading Partner name Example: Acme_orders.xml
To debug this issue, please enable transport trace and go through the log.

Does anyone know why with Edge Animate CC 2014 it's not possible anymore to animate elements of a html file created in Dreamweaver? With Edge Animate CC 3.0.0. this was possible.

DNG files created from Fujifilm FinePix E-900 .RAF raw files

I'm having a problem in creating DNG files from my Fujifilm FinePix E-900 camera .RAF raw files on my Mac (Mac OS X 10.6.4). The DNG files are recognized correctly in Adobe software (Photoshop CS4, Bridge, Lightroom 3) but not by any Apple software (including Aperture 3.0).
I've used Adobe DNG Converter 6.1, Photoshop CS4, and Lightroom 3 to create these non-linear DNG files. As a point of reference, I've used the same settings to create DNG files from Kodak .KDC raws files that Apple also doesn't support, but these DNG files (created from the .KDC raw files) show up just fine in Aperture 3.0.
The one thing I find unusual about the .DNG files created from the Fujifilm FineFix E-900 .RAF raw files is that when I do a 'Get Info' on these files, the image dimensions of these .DNG files always shows up as 0 x 0. (The image dimensions should be listed as 3488 x 2616.)
So I'm wondering if there is something wrong (a bug maybe) on how these files are being converted to the DNG file format using Adobe DNG Converter 6.1, Photoshop CS4 or Lightroom 3 on a Mac.

Hi Frank, you need camera Raw 7.4 which is only available for PSE11. Consider upgrading or wait for PSE12 to be launched soon. If you regularly shoot raw try Lightroom with PSE10 as your external editor.
Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in PSE10 (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)

Disk Utility 'Disk Image from Folder' looses file create date?

Hi,
I have been working on creating backups that maintain the files' create dates. I have found the following anomoly using Disk Utility.
If I create a Disk Image From Folder, the create dates of all files are changed to be the same as the last modify dates. Not what I want.
If I creat a Blank Disk Image, and then using Finder to copy the files to the Disk Image, the create dates remain unchanged.
I can then burn the backup CD's with the Disk Image and the files' create dates are maintained. So, future restore from the backup CD will contain the original files' create dates.
Does anyone know if Disk Utility's Create Disk Image from Folder is supposed to loose the files' create dates? What other file attributes are being lost? Mac OS X maintains all of these attributes, and create dates via Finder copies, I would expect the Disk Utility Create Disk Image from Folder to do the same.

To follow up on this post, I know at least part of the answer. The difference between the two becomes clearer if you read the documentation (man pages) for hdiutil and asr. Image 1 will be created in file mode, whereas image 2 will be in block mode, ie bypassing the file system. Image 1 will consist of a series of files, whereas image 2 will contain a series of blocks, mirroring the original layout of the hard disk.
Technically the latter should be faster to restore (in block mode), although Apple recommend the first procedure (see man page for hdiutil). I haven't seen any evidence that images created in block mode can be mounted or restored, although you might be able to burn such images to a optical disks if applicable.
As I've pointed out in another thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1508199&tstart=0) I believe that this functionality should not be offered in disk utility, and I consider it a serious bug.
