Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected

So; i finaly got to update my Mac to 10.6.5. Following a update of iTunes to 10.1. A few days after i recieved my iPhone 4 and updated that one directly from the box to 4.2.1.
The "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" are checked.
Prefs->Devices "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads fro.." are NOT checked.
And still iTunes don't start when i plug inn my iPhone. Anyone knows if there are there any fixes for this?

launch *Activity Monitor* and look for a process called iTunesHelper.
iTunesHelper or iTunes Helper, is a program from Apple that runs in the background and monitors for the connection of any iPod or iPhone to the computer
if that process is not present, try *removing iTunes completely* (click here and follow the instructions), then reinstall it using the standalone installer from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.
note this will not touch your media files, playlists, ratings, etc.

  • Can't select "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" in iTunes.

iTunes wouldn't launch when I plugged the phone into my laptop. I opened iTunes manually & the option to "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" is now grayed out. How can I re-select that option?

  • Open itunes when this iphone is connected is grayed out

Did a search for this and could not find any resolutions.
For some reason when I connect my iPhone, it automatically opens itunes and starts synching. I have never had it set up to do so, as I want to be able to do it when I have time.
But I can not stop this from happening. In the summary tab of my iPhone when connected to iTunes the "Open itunes when this phone is connected" selection is grayed out.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem from anyone?

    Found a solution....
Open iTunes-Preferences-Devices- then uncheck "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically". select OK.
Now you have the option to uncheck the 'Open iTunes when iPhone is plugged in'.
You can also go back and re-check "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically" without the problem re-occurring.

  • Open iTunes when this device is connected

"Open iTunes when this device is connected" is not on the Summary Tab as stated by the Help screen. So where is it?

Each time you connect your iPhone to iTunes, you need to eject it before closing iTunes by clicking on the little "eject" icon shown in iTunes.  It seems that sometime in the past, you did not do that.
I'm not sure how to undo the previously done damage, but maybe a reboot of your Mac would help.

  • Cannot enable "open itunes when this ipod is connected" with brand new nano

I just purchased a new 16GB 4G nano, and iTunes will not enable the check box for "open itunes when this ipod is connected". It is not greyed-out, but when I select it (check the box), iTunes un-checks the box upon the next sync.
Why won't iTunes allow me to enable "open itunes when this ipod is connected"? I have tried all combinations of check boxes, but to no avail.
    Please help!

I found my answer whenever the question was posted and started checking the "More Like This" items.  I swear I tried to search and find an answer before posting my question but got back some non-sensical results.  However, the answer was found in an archived thread "
When I connect my iPod Touch, why won't iTunes 9.2 open automatically?
and the answer was to unclick the auto open option, shut down iTunes and restart, then click the option back on. The iTunes Help message window appears asking if I was sure I wanted to do this (Of Course!) and it seems to have addressed the problem!!

  • "Open iTunes when this iPhone is attached" is grayed out

    Hey gang-
On my iPhone running OS 3.1.2 and iTunes 9.0, "Open iTunes when this iPod is attached" is grayed out. Any reason this would be?
    Thanks!
    Dave

Edit > preferences > Devices > Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods, check in that box?
That should make the option you want available and then you can disable the auto-syncing again if you want.

  • Possible iOS 5 bug - "Open iTunes when this iPod is connected" using 200 MB

A strange bug with either iOS 5 or iTunes 10.5 that does not look like it was discussed - I couldn't pull anything up in a search.
I've noticed that ever since upgrading to iOS 5, the amount of free space on my iPod Touch (3rd G) reported both in iTunes and on the iPod itself decreased by about 2 GB compared to what I had had free under iOS 4.3.
Originally I attributed it to the fact that iOS 5 happened to be larger in size, until I noticed that I gained about 200 MB by unchecking the "Open iTunes when..." option.  See the following two screenshots:
The strange part is that the "missing" 200 MB is somehow attributed to "Audio" - also notice the difference in reported Audio size between the two images.
As a comparison, my iPad is still running iOS 4.3.5.  I checked and unchecked that option in iTunes when the iPad was connected, and there was no change in reported capacity whatsoever.
Does anyone have an idea as to what the cause of this may be?  Has anyone else experienced this and/or submitted a bug report to Apple software engineers?
    Thanks,
    Steve

iTunes freezes to the point that I must CtrlAltDel to exit it. It never did this before, but recently it has started doing this. I've had it for 13 months, so no warranty.
I have tried it in iTunes 7.5 on windows Vista and in iTunes 7.4 on Windows XP. Same issue either way.
    Thanks for your prompt reply!

  • The "open Itunes when this phone is connected" it's not available. Why?

I want that whwnwever I plug my phone to my Mac iTunes opens automaticly, but in the summary page of the iPhone in Itunes, I can`t check that option and I don't know why

I have the same issue but my Itunes opens up when I connect my Iphone. I do not want it to open up. I just want to charge my phone with the usb and only have itunes open when I want it to. How can I turn this off? It seems the box in the options is unchecked and greyed out so as to be unavailable anyways.

  • Why is the option "Open ITunes when this iPad is connected" dimmed?

It's an original iPad running the latest iOS. My host iMac is running MacOS 10.6.8.

  • Itunes doesn't open automatically when my iphone is connected anymore

I have an iphone 4s and it used to open iphoto and itunes automatically when i plugged it in with a usb cord. now it doesn't do either. i got iphoto to open, but am still having issues with itunes. i have tried all the obvious: checking and unchecking the preferences and summary settings that indicate to automatically sync and open when connected. nothing is working. any suggestions

In iTunes click on your phone under "Devices" on the left of the screen > "Summary" tab > Options: "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected".

  • Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected, is 'Grayed Out'?

Itune 11.0..2. / iPhone 5 / Backups > iCloud / Options > 'Grayed out', (not available?) "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected". Why is this grayed out?

This one was odd:  it stopped after the first sync was finally completed--had to interrupt several times to use the phone away from the computer before all the music and photos were fully reloaded.  Now it waits appropriately for next sync.  This is probably why no one else had seen this or replied.

  • "automatically sync when this iphone is connected" disabled

The "automatically sync when this iphone is connected" checkbox in iTunes 12 is disabled, i.e., greyed out. How to enable this?

If your device is set up for manually syncing then doesn't it make sense for automatic syncing to be disabled? Either way you are safer if you have to initiate a sync by pressing the sync button.

  • Iphoto does not open with itunes when my iphone is connected.

I found an article about importing my photos from my phone that describes using iphoto to automatically import them. I cannot get iphoto to open when my iphone is connected tharefor, I can't get to the import screen or access my iphone with iphoto in any way.

Duh!  Yes iTunes does talk to the iPhone. But it's primarily for syncing photos from iPhoto to the phone and not the other way.
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try communicating with the iPhone again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that doesn't help try repairing disk permisisons with Disk Utility and reboot your Mac.  Lastly give Image Capture a try to see if you can manually download the photos to a folder on your Desktop and then import the folder into iPhoto.
