Open iweb files in dreamweaver

Hi! I have read so many forums about this topic. The solution everyone seems to have is to publish your iweb files to a folder and then open index.html through dreamweaver. I can open the file, however, it only displays a code and the file size is only 4kb. I know that my site is way larger than that, so I'm thinking i'm opening it incorrectly or something. So if anyone knows and could give me fool proof step by step "for dummies" directions, that would be awesome!!

iWeb's index.html files don't have any content. Open the other .html files which you find in the sitename folder.

• Can Not Open ASPX Files In Dreamweaver CC ?

I just upgraded from Dreamweaver CS6 to Dreamweaver CC and now can no longer double click to open ASPX files.
Is this something that was removed from Dreamweaver CC?
Or, is there something I need to install or edit in order for it to work again?
I tried adding it to the Extensions.txt file, but doesn't seem to be working unless I entered it into incorrectly.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

You can apply the default file association in windows. Follow http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-vista/change-which-programs-windows-uses-by-def ault
Also, you can try adding it in DW preferences.
1) Go to Preferences < File Types/Editors.
2) Click on the "+" icon on left Column and add the extension you need.
3)  Click on the "+" icon on right column and add the Editor as Dreamweaver. Locate the Dreamweaver.exe file installed at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CC".
4) Click on Make Primary Button and Click OK.
5) Close DW and re-launch.
I hope this helps

• How do i open iweb files on a different computer than what I created them on? - Domain file can't be opened

I started a web page in the lab at school and want to open the file here on my computer. I saved the application support/iweb/domain file and have tried to replace the old one with it, but that doesnt work. I looked up where you can delete the last string in the com.apple.iweb.plist file but that would not work either. I've got the site published to a folder and the domain file saved and with me but thats all

Put the copied domain file somewhere, or rename it and put it in the Application Support/iWeb folder, and double-click it.  That should open it.

• Can't open my files in Dreamweaver CS3..

The program opens but I can't open either my local or my remote files. Please help! As soon as I try to open a file, Dreamweaver crashes and i have to close it. I had a brief chance earlier today to update a couple of html pages but then it stopped working again. I have no idea what caused it. Nothing has changed on my computer that I know of. up until, this program has worked excellently for me.
Please help.

• Opening XHTML files in dreamweaver

An agency gave me all the files to a XHTML page that I opened
in Dreamweaver. This includes html, .inc files, css style sheets
and java files. They are all structures in their correct folders(I
think). When I open the XHTML in Dreamweaver, I get nothing what
resembles what is currently on the web. In the design work area(the
WYSIWYG part), I see nothing, but one element on top of another and
everything is flush left.
When I preview in a browser, everything is just like in
Dreamweaver–the layout is completely gone.
I'm new to CSS, what am I missing? Why are XHTML files not
WYSIWYG.
Thank you Brian

Heya Brian,
You have answered your own question. The reason the xhtml
files do not show style on the page is because no style is
presumably set for the page. Learn CSS and you will in effect be
learning how to add style to your page.
Hope that helps!

Hi,
Can you please share your crash logs.  Either you can copy it from the crash reporter dialog which comes up when application crash. You need to click on show details and then copy the logs which shows up. Or you can share the latest crash log created at  /Users/LIbarary/Logs/DiagnosticsReports/.

• Can't open iWeb files to upload to internet

Hi
I created my website using iWeb, and use iWeb SEO Tool (3rd party software) to upload onto the internet so that my website can be found on the net.
But since upgrading to Lion OSX I can't open my iWeb file in iWeb SEO  - my Library file has been moved and my iWeb file has disappeared!! I have since found the iWeb file through Finder (by using Go to ~/Library/) but still cannot find it using iWeb SEO so can't upload changes to my website.
Can someone help please? It is very frustrating!
Many thanks in advance!

Have you checked to see if iWeb SEO is compatable with Lion or if there is an update for it? Apple have dropped iWeb from their iLife suite in Lion. It will continue to work, but uploading to MobileMe will cease very shortly.

• Why won't Dreamweaver CC open proto files, while Dreamweaver CS6 does

I just found out that Dreamweaver CC gives an error when trying to open an Adobe Proto file: "error extracting the proto file".
That's weird, because Dreamweaver CC uses the same plugin/extension as Dreamweaver CS6 does, or am I missing something here...
Opening the same proto file in Dreamweaver CS6 works without problems.
Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

This is annoying but i was able to open it on my mac os x laptop using the following steps:
Copy the .pro file to a location on your computer and change the file extension to .zip
Using Terminal i was able to use the following command (the default unzip application could not unzip it for some reason) in the command prompt: unzip file.pro.zip
In the Renditions folder that gets unzipped you will find an html.zip (actual filename) file.
Unzip html.zip (the normal unzip application works on this file)
Set the local site directory to the extracted html directory. You can then edit the site using DreamWeaver CC.
i hope this helps.

• Opening cfm file in dreamweaver displays unicode

hi. i'm brand new to coldfusion, and when i open a .cfm file
in dreamweaver 8, most of it is showing up in unicode. how do i
make it legible?
thanks!

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for explaining Coldfusion
Administrator to me. My problem is that I've been giving an
application built by a 3rd party vendor, and my boss would like to
know how much we will be able to edit the application in-house.
They have given us all of the .cfm files and we host the server
running the app, so I have access to the dbs as well. But whenever
I try to open these .cfm files I see the encrypted characters. Is
there any way for me to edit these pages?

• Opening iweb files on an other computer.

Is it possible to open a page in iweb from another location ?
Or hen i abroad, is it then possible to download it en open the files ?

Browser-based design apps would be more suitable for remote access, plus you wouldn't be restricted to using a Mac. Assuming you don't want to re-do your entire iWeb site, a compromise would be to re-do just the pages you would want to update remotely and hyperlink your iWeb site to those pages...

• Using iWeb files in dreamweaver

Here's the deal. I built my website in iWeb, no problem. I upgraded my hard drive and backed up the files I uploaded (not using .mac) and now I can't just edit my site. iWeb won't open what it created and dreamweaver just opens up blank pages. What do I do?
Working on a site from another machine also
requires that the Domain file
I assume that is referring to working on another
[mac] machine.
Yes, it has to be another Mac with iWeb installed.
It just seems wierd to me
that someone can browse my site on-line..but i can't
open it up. Why does it work that way?
Your site on-line is just standard html and can be opened and edited with any text editor. iWeb's inability to open html is presumably related to the programming technology it uses to generate html from its internal templates -- just the way this particular app works.

• Can I open Proto files in Dreamweaver?

Can I export a file from Proto to Dreamweaver?

I did some testing based on feedback here. I currently see slightly different behavior between the Android and iPad(iOS) versions. Either works, the iOS process requires a few more steps.
For Android:
If you upload the project from within the app to the Adobe Creative Cloud it creates a .zip version of your project. This can then be downloaded and unzipped on a computer. To access the files on the computer you need to open the Creative Cloud website within a browser and download the file. The Adobe Creative Cloud address is https://creative.adobe.com/ . After you download the .zip file and unzip its contents, it contains the actual html and css files which can be opened within Dreamweaver.
For iOS:
The process is very similar to what is described for Android however, the file extension on iOS is .pro. The .pro file contains some additional files but still contains a compressed copy of the project which can be opened in Dreamweaver. When you download the .pro file you will still need to uncompress it with some kind of .zip type utiliity (like Stuffit Expander). The .pro file once unzipped contains a renditions folder, within that folder is a html.zip file which is the project itself (needs to be unzipped as well).
It does work on either Window or Mac with either the Android or iOS version. You need to transfer the file through the Adobe Creative Cloud, but like mentioned previously, you can just set up an account for free.
Hope that helps,
-Dave

• Help! Open MX files in Dreamweaver 8

Any ideas? My older files are not opening in 8... they start
to open, then blink closed. Not sure why they don't open. I don't
use Dreamweaver too much, but need to access older files rather
than recreate.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you.

HTML is HTML. The older files should open with no problem.
Can you post a
link to one of these older pages, so we can see the code,
please?

• Opening iweb files?

I am new to iWeb, and am wondering how to edit the website I created with iWeb. There is no "Open" option on the File menu. So does this mean that I can't go to the dot mac server and download the files to edit on one of my computers?
a bit confusted in St. Paul

iWeb stores your data in a domain.sites2 file located in Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb.
Once you have published your files, there is no way to import them back into iWeb.
You have to have the domain file. You should therefore back it up regularly.
You can down load your files from .Mac by going to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites and dragging them onto your desktop.
These will save you time when you rebuild your website.
