Open JPG In RAW

This has probably been addressed before so I apologize. I can't seem to find any information with the Search feature.
I want to be able to open a JPEG in RAW, but not all the time. How is this done?
Thank you
Merrill

This makes you always open JPGs in camera raw, which I am also hoping to avoid. I'm using CS3 on a Windows XP Machine, just installed the latest updates from adobe and can no longer open JPGs in Camera Raw by hitting CTRL-R. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I want the option of opening in raw easily, would rather avoid having to go and check that preference box to open all images in raw every time I want to do so. Thanks!

  • Open JPG as RAW preference missing, Photoshop CS3

Some of my scripts are failing when the "open Jpg as Raw" preference is selected in Photoshop CS3. I found this thread that seems to solve the problem, but the relevant code is missing:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.3be5325f
Could someone please re-post the missing code for those functions?
    Thanks

Photoshop does "play nice" over networks, but seems to catch more OS and server bugs than other applications (mostly because we've added more error detection code over the years after dealing with many OS and server problems).

  • Opening jpgs as raw... image size

My office color corrects thousands of images per day for newsprint. These come in mostly as jpgs and some tifs and eps files. Most of these need a lot of color correction work, and I've found that opening jpgs with the RAW dialogue box and tweaking them there can be a huge time-saver (one menu with a bunch of sliders, versus opening curves, shadow highlight, hue/sat, color balance, etc.)
However! There are two things preventing us from utilizing the ability to open jpgs and using the raw dialogue box:
    1. Image size. We are dealing with images from several customers who need us to maintain their original image size and dpi, whatever that may be. Other customers want us to maintain the width/height and rasample the image down to 200dpi. (example: take this 3x5" @ 956dpi and make it 3x5" @ 200dpi) If I open one of their images in raw, I don't know what the original width/height were because the file has been resized to whatever I used on the last image. I've noticed it defaults to 240. The original jpg dpi changes with each image we get. Is there any way to make the raw dialogue box not change the image size? Which leads me to...
    2. Once I've opened a jpg using the raw dialogue box it will always open up again in raw (always changing the image size.) If I want to just open my jpg as a regular image in photoshop, I have to go to camera raw preferences and disable the ability to use raw on jpgs. Is there a faster way to ignore the raw settings on a jpg once it has been altered as raw?
So this is why we don't use raw, even though it'd be a huge advantage for us to be able to make these color corrections. If anyone has any ideas how to get around these, or even an easier workflow, I'd appreciate it!

For #1, if you look at the image in Bridge you can note the dimensions and resolution...you would then need to put that same resolution in the ACR resolution field.
For #2, no...as you note the ACR Preference controls whether or not Camera Raw will be used to open the image. You can use the Shift key when double clicking in Bridge to open the image directly into Photoshop and bypass the ACR dlog, but Camera Raw will still be used if it's set to be used in the Preferences...
You'll need to keep your image resizing just in Photoshop because Camera Raw is not designed to do that sort of resize/resampling...it's designed first and foremost as a raw processor and later added the ability to open and process camera JPEGs and TIFFs. Putting those kind of controls into Camera Raw wouldn't make sense since the end result of an image opened into Camera Raw is supposed to be an image processed and opened into Photoshop. So, what you are wishing for is really outside of the scope of the development design...sorry.

  • How to open jpg, tiff files in camera raw from elements 10 organizer

How to open JPG, TIFF files in camera raw from Elements 10 organizer.

Thanks for that Damead, I agree with you that Organiser is real pain (there is a total lack of intuitiveness if that is  the correct word).
For my own work I use 'Lightroom' for around 90% of the time, only going into PSE10 for the 10% difficult bits the Lightroom can't handle.
I only needed to sort out the JPEG file opening method within PSE10 for some freinds in a small Photo Group that I run in Woodhall Spa, UK. 50% of the 12 members are beginners & a number of them do not have Raw capability on their Camera's, but now they can get their JPEG's into Camera Raw within PSE10 they have the same simple tabular form of adjustment sliders (not as many as in Lightroom of cause) but it gets over the labourious problem of going thru the PSE10's individual tool selection process each and every time since we are trying to get everyone in the Group working with individual Tools rather than the 'Auto' functions. We do this so that they learn what they are doing rather than staying 'dumb&happy' within Auto all the time & they also learn how to get more detailed control for each photo.
Ref. your comments on file handling/usage, I agree with your comments. Its far and away much more preferable to set up a file structure in 'Finder" (or in 'Explorer' if still using Windows) that you understand so you always know how to find the files. Also, I also never ever use the Camera Auto Load programme but physically 'drag & drop' photo files direct from the 'card' into the file system so I always know thier place (ie: they go into the location I want, not that which the Auto Loader wants).
As regards your comment about 'Lightroom', I don't have any problems at all since I just imported the whole of my photo file structure into the Lightroom Library Catalouge and then it automatically shows up on the LHS of the screen, still in that format, so you can search it direct within Lightroom and display all of the photo's in variuos arrangements and sizes; everything is as easy to find as it is in 'Finder' plus of cause you have all the 'Tagging' possibilities to use as well. As you add more new files into the 'Finder' structure, all you need to do in Lightroom is reimport, starting 1 level up from the new files and Lightroom will find the new files that need loading (ignoring the older ones already in the Library at that or lower levels) then 1 click and its done.
Your comments about getting others to follow a set file structure is very pertinant and also applies to evrything else that one ever does apart from just photo work; the times I have had to help others find info/files etc on their PC's because they don' know the location of anything is too many to contemplate.

  • How do I open .jpg in Camera Raw in PSE8

Hi. I've searched and coudn't find the answer.
I installed PSE8, and Camera Raw 5.5, which shows up in the Help-Plugins list.
How do I open a .jpg file inside Raw to make adjustments?
I only see where it will open with PSE.
    Thanks.

    Sorry, just found it.
    File-Open in-Camera Raw...
    select .jpg file
    OK.
    Talk about indirect...

  • In bridge i select a jpg image with cntrl r to open in camera raw but get "camera raw not avail"

In bridge i select a jpg image with cntrl r to open in camera raw but get "camera raw not available"  camera raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.  I can open nef. in camera raw with no problem.

Hm, what I suggested might actually be a possibility then...
Close whatever version you have open first...
I think Adobe installs shortcuts for both 32 and 64 bit Photoshop in the start menu.
If you can't find the 32 bit Start menu entry, look for the 32 executable here (changing the CS version number to whatever yours is):
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Photoshop.exe

  • Opening JPG directly in Photoshop, passing Camera Raw

Hi! I would like to open JPGs that were edited in Camera Raw directly in Photoshop and I saw in this video from Russel Brown how I could do this. Only, he is using Bridge CS3 in the video and I am using CS4. The thing is that I don't have "Always open JPEG files with setting using Camera Raw", instead I have a dropdown with: "Disable JPEG support", "Automatically open JPEG with settings" and "Automatically open all supported JPEG". I tried these options but they don't help.
    Menu options in the video
The menu options that are available to me
    Do you have any solutions?
    Thank you,
    Victor

I just realised that setting to "Disable JPEG support" bypasses Camera Raw, but it has to be done to every file individually, and in that video from Russel Brown he just set an option and every JPEG opened in Photoshop bypassed Camera Raw. Do you know if this feature can be set in CS4 too?
    Thank you,
    Victor

  • I can't open Nikon D800.nef (raw) files in my Photoshop CS6 (64 bit), however, I can open .jpg files

I just purchased and installed Photoshop CS6 (64 bit) to use with my Nikon D800.  However, I can't open the .nef (raw) files but the .jpg files from the same camera will open.  What do I need to do to open .nef files from the D800?

Hello! By default, Photoshop CS6 cannot open the NEF from a D800, you need to have at least Camera Raw 7.1, as explained in this document: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Go to the Help menu, and select "updates" and you'll launch the Adobe Updater that should suggest to install Camera Raw 7.2 that supports the D800, and many other cameras.

  • Is there a solution to Photoshop CS3ex only opening jpg & tif images in plug-in "RAW"?

Using the Preference for File Handling, if Adobe 'Prefer Camera Raw" for JPEG not checked, program shuts down by Windows Problem Error. Uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop twice.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
    ......BUT didn't correct the problem
Also I went back to Photoshop and unchecked "always open jpg with camera raw settings and the program as usual crashed with the error message "Adobe Photoshop cs3 has stopped working etc."
This all started without warning weeks ago which I blame on these automatic updates by windows.
Since then I've easily spent a week chasing possibilities including twice deleting and reinstalling the programs in the Suite.
Additionally there is something else going on.....at start up I am instructed to restart for upload updates to install which doesn't work either.
After doing the total reinstalls, I had to resort to downloading updates from the Adobe Site as updates from the different programs required uselessly restarting the computer.  All a kind of dominos effect after the total reinstalls and having to do upgrades from Adobe and not from each of the program's update option.
At least it "works" with the Raw settings.

  • Photoshop cs3 opens jpg in camera raw? help me

    Hi
    in the preferences file handling
-> i setup prefer camera raw for jpg unchecked
->i setup prefer camera raw for supported raw files
so photoshop opens only the raw files in camera and the other in normal mode
but there is a photo in jpg  that photoshop cs3 persist, insist to open in camera raw!!
    why?
    how can i clean it?
i mean open ths jpg in normal mode
    thanks

Also, you can let it Open in Camera RAW. Do any editing necessary there, and then Save, choosing JPEG. Does that resulting file now Open fine in PS?
Could be somethng in its header that is telling PS to Open in Camera RAW, regardless of its file extension.
    Good luck,

  • Easy way to open JPGs in Camera Raw Module?

I am aware of the way to open JPGs in the ACR module by being in the Editor, and going to File>Open and changing the file type to RAW. I find this to be terribly inconvenient, however.
Is there any way to open a JPG in RAW from the Organizer where I can actually see the files? With regular Photoshop/Bridge I can just right click in Bridge and open in RAW easily. But I can't seem to find a way to do something similar in PSE11? There has to be an easier way because going to File>Open and trying to figure out what file I need from a huge pile of files is not a very good workflow.
    Thanks.

If you want to edit multiple JPGs in a raw editor interface, then you might consider using Lightroom, which is a bit cheaper than Photoshop.
The public-beta (release candidate) of Lightroom 5.2 just came out, today, and is available at Adobe Labs:

  • How do I open jpg files in camera raw?

I have read in numerous articles that I can open jpg files in ACR from within Elements 11. They all state to go File>Open, then browse to the jpg you wish to open, select Camera Raw from the file type and select the jpg. When I select the Camera Raw file type then all the jpg images disappear in the selection area or if I click the jpg first and then select Camera Raw and open then it says file not found. Am I doing this wrong or are the articles I am reading incorrect?

    Hi Majortipper,
In Elements 11 go to File menu >> open as .
It will open a file open dialog where you have a "format" drop-down instead of format menu.
In Elemens 12 this "open as" is replaced with "Open in camera raw"
    thanks,

  • Bridge won't allow jpg to be opened up in RAW

I'm in Bridge, CS4 is minimized. I've clicked on a jpg and tried to open up in RAW but getting this error message:
"Camera Raw editing is not enabled. Camera Raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature"???
Can't understand CS4 is working fine.  I updated Camera Raw to 5.6 and dropped in the 8BF into the right place.  Camera Raw works fine with Nikon NEF files, just seems to be the Bridge connection and jpgs
    Any ideas anyone?.

    Hi,
Quit Bridge, then launch Photoshop. See if Photoshop comes up with any licensing messsages. Give it a minute, then launch Bridge again and see if that works.
The message from Bridge is because it can't find a licensed application allowing it to enable it's features. You might find better info in thebridge forum with a search on 'can't open Camera Raw'. I'll also see if I can find more info for you.
    regards,

  • Open JPG files with Bridge RAW by double clicking?

    I am using CS4 Bridge 3.0.0.0.464
When I double click on a JPG file it opens in Photoshop.
I prefer to edit my JPG files with Bridge camera RAW.
At present, I have to right-click and choose 'open in camera RAW'.
Is there a workaround for this?

You're all over the map with that description, perhaps assuming some things are coupled that are not, normally (Camera Raw, Smart Object, Crop).
Start with the basics:  There is a Camera Raw preference that determines whether JPEGs and TIFFs will be opened by default through Camera Raw by default.  It's important to note that once you have opened a file with Camera Raw, metadata is stored so that it will open that same way every time, so these settings apply to JPEG or TIFF images that haven't been opened before.
In Photoshop, click Edit - Preferences - Camera Raw...
    Note the settings below:
