Open LiveCycle

I've downloaded and installed a trial version of LiveCycle. I can't open, or use it. All I want to do is fill in a security PDF form, but everytime I try, I am told to "use LiveCycle" which I can't open.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for replying. I have a desktop application and opening the pdf using a Browser is not an option
Would be great, if you could direct me as to how to the same for a desktop application.
I tried Process.Start(path of pdf)
It brings up the pdf fine, but the form comes up without data. Please see my related post http://forums.adobe.com/thread/751203?tstart=0
I thought maybe I was opening the form wrong...hence I created this post seperately.
I will be really grateful for any help with either of these posts as I have been struggling with them for more than a week now
Best regards
Nanda

  • Unable to open Livecycle forms even with latest plug-ins

    Hi guys,
I have a created a few dynamic forms designed using livecycle designer ES..In order for my users to open these forms, they need to have atleast Adobe acrobat / reader version 8.1 or higher to view these dynamic files. However, quite a few of my users are saying that they are still unable to open these forms directly from their browser although they have downloaded the latest Acrobat X version and the browser plug-ins in their computer. It happens to both windows and mac computers. But they are able to download these files and open it directly from their adobe reader though. It happens with all browsers for them...some of them have even called up mac support as well as adobe support and they were advised that it could be a problem with my forms that I find hard to believe since it opens in my computer and opens for a lot of other users. Its only a few users still having difficulties and I can't understand why!
Also, I recently uploaded a dynamic file in acrobat file sharing. Why am I getting the below message when I have the latest adobe installed? I am able to open other dynamic forms in my browsers..why does this happen? I wonder if other user's problem is similar to this...not sure...
To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from etc...etc...etc..
What can be the problem when the adobe version is already updated and also the plug-ins are updated too?? I have read a lot of links in adobe site itself which suggest various methods to test out the forms, browsers, plug-ins, etc..but this problem still happens to some users even after trying out these troubleshoots. Can someone explain if there are other limitations or solution for these users?

I don't have an answer. However, since your question is not about Acrobat forms, but Designer forms, you need to ask in the LiveCycle forum that deals with Desginer forms.

  • Reader 9 does not open LiveCycle protected PDF's on OSX

My daughter uses an electronic online learning environment at school. This website contains PDF's that are protected with Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management. But Adobe Reader (latest version 9.3.4) cannot open these PDF's. It shows an error dialog stating that "You can only open this document when connected to the network". As you might have guessed, we are connected to the network already.
It gets even more interesting when we e-mail the PDF's to other people. These files can be opened under Windows and under Linux with no problems, in IE and FireFox. This even works without logging in to the e-learning website! But although it is possible to open the document on a Mac, which has a size of about 2.9 MB, its contents stays completely blank.
I tried this on 3 Mac's, from 3 different networks, with all combinations of Safari, Firefox, Preview and Adobe Reader. With and without the OSX firewall enabled, and using both OSX 10.5 and 10.6. I am using the latest versions of all software, all with the default preferences after standard installation.
I would really like some suggestions on how to solve this. The school cannot help, the e-learning platform company does not want to help because they do not support "individual cases" and the content provider (publisher of the PDF's) does not respond to my questions by e-mail.

The error message is a bit misleading.
This is most likely related to the certificate used by the browser to make the the HTTPS connection from the PDF to the Rights Management server.
You have to make sure the certificate is installed properly in the browser you're using to avoid this error message.
One way to quickly test is to hit https://<rights_management_servername>:<port> and see if the browser gives  you a prompt to install a certificate. If it does, then install it.
Close the browser and try to hit that URL again. You want to make sure you can hit https://<rights_management_servername>:<port> without a prompt to install a certificate.
This is actually what Acrobat/Reader is trying to do. Acrobat uses a browser object and if it can't connect to the the URL without a prompt, it'll throw the error message you're getting.
    I hpoe this helps.

  • Trouble opening LiveCycle DRM-encrypted PDFs in Adobe Acrobat v.10.0.2

LiveCycle DRM-encrypted PDFs open fine in Adobe Acrobat v. 9, v. 10.1.7, and v. 11. Why don't they open in v. 10.0.2? Is this a known problem? My company is UNABLE to upgrade or downgrade to another version of Adobe at this time, but we need to be able to open these PDFs with version 10.0.2. What is the solution? I get the following message when attempting to open these PDFs:

And, if there is a bug, is there any solution other than to upgrade to the next version?
Usually bugs are fixed in updated software versions; what kind of other solution do you expect?
Actually, looking at ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/ I see that 10.0.2 has been removed completely, so this appears to have been an especially buggy version.

  • Opening LiveCycle generated pdf on mobile devices

We have created numerous documents in LiveCycle ES3 so that the forms can be filled in and saved as a PDF, and so that some sections of the form can expand to accept large text blocks when needed.  The forms work perfectly when opened on a desktop version of Adobe Reader.  They don't open at all when users are attempting to view on a mobile device (Android, I Phone, I pad, etc).  The devices have the most current version of Adobe Reader installed, but still get an error message.
Is there any way to save the forms so that they can be read from a mobile device with Adobe Reader?  If not, are there any third party apps that will open the forms?  They don't need to be able to fill in.  The mobile users will only be opening the form and reading it.

Forms designed in LiveCycle Designer ES3 are XFA based forms. They cannot be opened on mobile devices.
LiveCycle ES4 introduced Mobile Forms module which can render the existing XFA form as HTML5. More info here : http://helpx.adobe.com/livecycle/topics/mobile-forms-dev.html

  • Cannot open LiveCycle protected pdf

When trying the iOS reader to open a Livecycle DRM protected pdf, I get the following error (I'm obfuscating the server name on purpose) - "Access to this document is restricted by this remote server xxxxx.xxxxx.com, however we are unable to connect it at this time.  Please try to open it again later. If you continue to see this message, check whether your device is supported by this server."
I can open the exact same pdf on a Windows desktop using Adobe Reader.    Is there something on the LiveCycle server that needs to be configured for the iOS client?

Hi, please review the FAQ referenced off of blogs.adobe.com/security/2011/10/just-released-adobe-reader-10-1-for-ios-and-android.html. Please make sure that you have a supported server version running, no problems with SSL, and a appropriately-configured policy. If you still experience problems, please contact Adobe Support to help debug your specific enviornment. Thanks!

  • Opening LiveCycle Designer ES

Whenever I try to open the program to work on a form, it quickly flashes onto the screen, disappears, and Adobe Acrobat Professional opens instead. Then I have to go to Forms; Create New Form, etc. to eventually be able to get LiveCycle to open so I can work on my form in Design View. (I am working in Windows XP, v 5.1). Does everyone have to go thru this? Shouldn't LiveCycle just open when it is clicked on in the programs list or it's desktop icon?
    Thanks for your help...Kris

We found an article on Adobe's site that described the exact problem I was having. We tried to fix the problem according to Adobe's instructions, but were not able to find the settings they described in the article. However, digging around in the Windows settings seems to have lodged something loose because now LiveCycle launches correctly every time I click on it. Thanks for responding to my problem.

  • Highlight Fields when PDF is opened - LiveCycle 8

    LiveCycle 8
    Win XP
    Hi,
I'm trying to automatically highlight the form fields on a PDF when it is opened. I want the form to act as though the user has chosen the "Highlight Fields" option/button.
I would prefer a javascript function to fire (on itialize?) so I don't have to attach code to every field and possibly allow me to easily use it on future PDFs.
My current thoughts are to loop through all fields on the form and set the fillColor property to a light blue "221,228,255". Here's the javascript I'm currently trying to use:
    for (var i=0; i < xfa.host.numPages; i++){
    ]var oFields = xfa.layout.pageContent(i,"fields");
    ]var nodesLength = oFields.length;
    ]for (var j=0; j< nodesLength; j++){
    ]]var oItem = oFields.item(j);
    ]]oItem.fillColor = "221,228,255";
Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it to work. Also, I'm not sure where to put it once it does work so that it fires when the PDF is opened.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi,
In the File > Form Properties menu opens the dialog window. Go to the Defaults tab and check that the "Save script changes" is set to 'Automatic'. This will make sure that changes to the form from script changes will be saved with the form and honored when the form is reopened.

  • Unable to open LiveCycle-protected pdf document with Reader 9 (ok with Reader 8)

    Hello,
I installed a LiveCycle server for the Right management module.
But I have the following problem :
    - I can protect and save pdf documents with Acrobat Pro 8 (connecting with the server LiveCycle Update 1)
    - I can open the document using a RSA authentication using Adobe Reader 8.
    - BUT I cannot open the document using Adobe Reader 9. First I'm asked if i authorize the connection to livecycle server, thenthe error message appears
"an error occured while performing this operation. Contact an administrator if this problem continues".
I posted the same message in the Adobe Reader forum, but i was redirected in this section.
Do you have an idea of what causes this problem ?
    Thanks

When looking at the server's logs, I only locate one unsual error :

  • Can I open LiveCycle created form on a Blackberry?

I created a form in LiveCycle with expandable fields and other lovely features now our VP is saying he can't open it on his Blackberry. This is a disaster.
Is there any way to get this to work?

Yes and no. No in that the integrated PDF viewer for mobile devices do not support Livecycle (XFA) PDFs. Yes in that Adobe does have additional platforms (see link below) for viewing and entering text fields for mobile devices. However I sense that you lack these options so I might suggest, if you have the software, to create a PDF with either Acrobat Pro or you can use Adobe's new FormCentral which might be included in your version of Acrobat Pro if you have it. Both have options for optimizing PDFs for mobile viewing; however you might be somewhat limited with the other features you have made in the form. But at the end of the day Acrobat created forms, for the most part, can be viewed on mobile devices. I have a somewhat limited expereince with the integrated PDF viewer in BB so I am not 100% sure if all features like expanded fields in an Acroform would work.

  • If I use adobe reader 7.0 to open LiveCycle Designer ES2, what will happen?

    Hi,
I am planning to recommend adobe LiveCycle Designer ES2 as a forms designer software to a corporate client. But it seems that the client is still using the old version of adobe reader 7.0.
So I need to know that is it essential to use adobe reader 9.0 for designer ES2, and if by adobe reader 7.0, what problem would be happen?
It is very helpful If there is some detailed information about it.
    Thanks
    En Shoku

    Hi,
When you design a form in LC Designer ES2 you can set the target version of Acrobat/Reader in the File > Form Properties > Defaults tab.
While you can target v7, you need to be aware that some of the functionality in LC Designer ES2 is not supported in Reader v7. For example in LC Designer you can set the presence of an object to 'visible (screen only)', but this is not supported in Reader v7, so would cause a problem. So for each form you would need to set the target version and then check the Warnings palette to see if there are any problems.
Check out the post by John Brinkman discussing Acrobat X, as this has a very handy table for the LC Designer/XFA Specification and Acrobat/Reader versions: Acrobat X and XFA 3.3
    XFA Version
    Acrobat/Reader
    2.1
    6.02
    2.2
    7.0
    2.3
    7.0.1, 7.02
    2.4
    7.0.5, 7.0.7
    2.5
    8.0
    2.6
    8.1, 8.1.1
    2.8
    9.0
    3.0
    9.1, 9.2, 9.3
    3.3
    10.0
You can see there are alot of changes around v7 and that if the user has Reader v7.0.7, then you can utilise the features in XFA Specification 2.4.
The other issue to be aware of is that users with Reader will NOT be able to save data in the form UNLESS the form has been Reader Enabled before the form is deployed.
The form can be Reader Enabled in two ways:
Using Acrobat Standard v9 or Acrobat Professional v7 or v8. Has licence restrictions, see EULA.
Using a server produce called Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES2. Additional costs.
Here is a summary of the options available to users with Reader, depending on whether the form is Reader Enabled AND how it was enabled:
There is a post here and a PDF summary:

    Hope that helps,

  • Open Livecycle ES2 form from c#

    Hi All,
I am working on MS Visual studio 2008 C#. I have the Live cycle Designr ES@ trial version installed on my machine. I have designed a PDF form and it opens properly in the preview mode. this form has drop downs and editable fields as well as display fields
I want to open this form from a c.ick of a button in c#.
    Please help me do this.
Thanks in advance for any help on this issue
    regards

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for replying.
    Nanda

  • Adobe LiveCycle opens and closes automatically from Acrobat 9 Pro

I just upgraded to Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro because I wanted to use the LiveCycle form editor. When I try to open LiveCycle from Acrobat 9 Pro Forms menu tab, LiveCycle opens and then closes instantly.  I tried to open it several times but the same thing happened. Luckily I had an old form which was save as *.xpd which opened LiveCycle.
Does anyone know what the issue is when trying to open LiveCycle from the Adobe 9 Pro Form tab? Thanks in advance.

I can't answer as to why Designer is opening/closing in Acrobat, but you can open it by itself.
The EXE file is located with the Acrobat install.   On my Win 7 its located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Designer 8.2\FormDesigner.exe

  • How do I open file in acrobat instead of livecycle

It seems that once a document is edited in Livecycle, it always opens livecycle but when a document is first created it goes through adobe acrobat. How do I edit a document that was edited in livecylce in acrobat instead?
    Is that even possible?
    Please let me know. Thanks.

Lets break down your problem into pieces.

These are not Acrobat. You need to download and install Acrobat in order to use it.

how to open file in Acrobat XI
I am not sure I understand your question but I think you are looking for this.
    1. Right click on the PDF file.
    2. Click on "Open With". You will see Adobe Acrobat in the list.
    3. Click on it.
    Alternatively,
1a. On Windows, open the Start Menu (bottom left of the screen).
1b. On Mac, open the Spotlight (top right of the screen).
    2. Type Acrobat. You will see Adobe Acrobat in the list.
    3. Click on it. Acrobat will open.
    4. Goto File -> Open. Locate the file and click Open.
If Acrobat is not displayed anywhere, it means that the software is not installed on your machine.
    To verify:
1a. On Windows, open Control Panel, then open Programs and Features.
1b. On Mac, open a Finder Window, then click Applications on the left.
    2. Look for Adobe Acrobat in the list.
If Acrobat is not present, download and install from the website http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html or using Adobe Download Assistant.
