Open local application via KM-Link

Hi there,
we have a customer who uses a custom developed signed applet to open local applications in a IBM Websphere Portal. The links can be removed/modified/deleted by the end user. Is there a way to use such a applet in combination with KM-Links? Can I specify a file extension in the KM which automatically calls a portal service (which contains the applet)? I don`t think a conversion of the IBM-portlet is possible (or worth doing it) cause it uses own database tables etc.
Thanks & regards, Jens

Hi Jens,
One option you might look at if you can't get it going
with external links is to is creating an XML Forms
project where the user can enter the the file path. The
path could be stored in the schema. Then on the show
form you could have a link or button to start the
applet, although you might have to tweak the XSL to get
what you want (i.e., pull in the static part of the
href). I don't know if this is a tenable solution for
you, but it might provide another area to look at if you
can't pull it off with just external links.
In other words, you could hack up a basic XML Forms
project to get what you want, although you have to be
careful not to ever edit the project with the forms
editor again since that might overwrite your changes.

Darin

  • How to open local file link in IE ?

    I know, this question is not APEX-related per se, but I was not able to google the fix to this problem.
    In my application, users can open a file open dialog and retrieve a complete file path that is later stored in the DB. Of course, Firefox's javascript does not allow this, but Adam Fisk's applet (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=405630#c40) does the job.
    The file path links to file:///..... . In Firefox, I have managed to open these links with NoScript settings (white list for our intranet trusted addresses and "allow local links" for trusted sites).
    Also, there is a LocalLink plugin (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Links_to_local_pages_don%27t_work) that allows to open local file links from context menu.
    However, on Internet Explorer nothing happens and LocalLink and NoScript are only for FF.
    Has anyone here managed to open local and intranet file links in IE?

  • When opening FF via a link, the window doesn't open maximized

    If I start Firefox with a shortcut I have no problems, but if the browser isn't already opened, and I click a link in IRC, email etc. the browser starts in a window instead.
    Simply maximizing the window and then closing the browser doesn't fix it, since it only seem to remember the window position and size as long as it's not maximized.
    Going into properties of the shortcut and setting it to start maximized (it already is) doesn't change anything, since as I said, the problem is only when opening the browser via a link and not a shortcut.

    That's normal behavior for Windows, I think.
    It's possible there is an add-on to address this specific issue. If not, I wonder whether someone could craft a GreaseMonkey userscript that would be able to ''intelligently'' address this situation (i.e., it has to work on any site, but only if it's the only page open).

    Is there any way to open an VB6 execulatble application via a Sharepoint application page?

    No, only thing you can do is add a link to a sharepoint application page that points to a vb6 executable, once the end user clicks that one, the client OS and end user decide what happens next.

  • Changing fields in form opened in query mode via a link from a report

    I have a summary report which allows me to access a form via a link: The form opens up with its fields populated with the corresponding record from the report.
    Can additional code be added to the after displaying page section of the form such that some of the fields can be assigned with different values from those in the original record? If so, can anyone offer some sample code for this?

    Hi,
    You can access and set the values of the columns in forms by using certain apis. All the columns in the form are available in the session which can be accessed and set.
    Sample Code
    declare
    flightno number;
    ticketno varchar2(30);
    tdate date;
    persons number;
    blk varchar2(10) := 'DEFAULT';
    begin
    flightno := p_session.get_value_as_varchar2(
    p_block_name => blk,
    p_attribute_name => 'A_FLIGHT_NO');
    ticketno := p_session.get_value_as_varchar2(
    p_block_name => blk,
    p_attribute_name => 'A_TICKET_NO');
    tdate := p_session.get_value_as_date(
    p_block_name => blk,
    p_attribute_name => 'A_TRAVEL_DATE');
    persons := p_session.get_value_as_number(
    p_block_name => blk,
    p_attribute_name => 'A_NOF_PERSONS');
    p_session.set_value(
    p_block_name => blk,
    p_attribute_name => 'A_FLIGHTNO',
    p_value => to_char(NULL)
    p_session.set_value(
    p_block_name => blk,
    p_attribute_name => 'A_TICKETNO',
    p_value => to_char(NULL)
    p_session.set_value(
    p_block_name => blk,
    p_attribute_name => 'A_TRAVEL_DATE',
    p_value => to_char(NULL)
    end;
    The above code sets and gets value of the form fields. The form field is accessed by prefixing "A" to the form column name. For example if the column name is "DEPTNO" then to access or set value to it you should refer to the session variable "A_DEPTNO".

    Certainly!
    This is the module in our eMac 1.42:
    1GB PC2700 DDR 333MHz CAS 2.5 184 Pin DIMM
    The vendor, Other World Computing, ships to the UK but I suspect the shipping would make it pricy. I also trust this vendor:
    Apple G4 eMac 1.42GHz (184 Pin PC2700 DDR DIMMs)
    Between the two vendor's description, you should have a good idea of the Specs
    PPC Macs do not like hi-density PC RAM. That's why I linked these two; they send the right stuff to Mac users.
    Crucial UK is usually cited as good but, like their US counterpart, seldom go against Apple's outdated specs. See:
    http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=eMac%20(1.42GHz)&Cat=RAM
    They show the max RAM for your model as 1GB--yesterday's news. However, if you order their offering for a G5 iMac, you get the larger modules. Here is a listing for a 2GB kit (2 x 1GB modules) of the right config:

  • Citrix XenApp Unable to Open Published Applications. Via UAG Trunk

    Good Morning,
    I'm trying to publish XenApp through a UAG trunk. When I click in the XenApp icon I am presented with the Citrix login page and am able to log in. However, if I try to open any application I am prompted to either open or save the ICA file and on clicking
    open I always get the following message, "Unable to launch your application. Contact your helpdesk with the following information: Cannot connect to XenApp server. There is no Citrix XenApp server configured on the specified address." If I log in
    to the UAG server I can connect to the Citrix server and run all applications without error. If I save the ICA file the contents are as expected and the correct server is listed.
    Forefront UAG is running a two node NLB array with SP4 and Citrix is published via an F5 load balancer.
    Any ideas out there?
    Thanks.

    hi patrick,
    this problem is not solvable on the serverside since this is a desktop integration problem. since you want to use excel as your editor you have to use excel's client side software.
    oracle drive purely addresses desktop integration and is not meant to be a server side component. it is a webdav client and for that only ensures that the communication between the client and the portal server has as much useful functionality as possible.
    the only other option that i see is downloading the document to the client, update it and copy it back up to the portal server, which is cumbersome.
    all webdav clients are client side software that is either shipped with the OS (MS webfolders) or needs to be installed on the client (oracle drive).
    you could check if there is software availble that is an excel plug-in for internet explorer which at the same time talks webdav to portal. not sure if this exists ?

  • Why do I have to Right Click to open a Application or Link on my desktop?

    On My Mac Mini, to open a application such as Mail or Safari I have to Right Click then open it.
    Does any one have any solution on how I could fix this? So I could just click on it twice then it should open.
    Thankyou
    Neil Patel

    Hi, glad I could help!
    Let me clarify my answer:
    In OSX 10.6 (snow leopard) it's in mouse/trackpad, like I said.
    I answered you from my MBP which is still SL.
    I realise now that in 10.8 Mountain Lion (and probably Lion, which I skipped) this setting has moved to Accessibility.
    Didn't notice until now, just checked it on my relatively new Mac Mini (which runs Mountain Lion)
    I wonder why they moved it, it seems not a logical location. All the mouse settings should be grouped together in Mouse/Trackpad prefs, in my opinion.
    Apple makes many strange decisions lately...

  • "Open method of Workbooks class failed" when opening Excel file via Internet Explorer

    (apologies, I posted this first to the general Office 2010 forum, but then realized this was probably a better spot to post)
    We have an Excel COM add-in installed on users' PCs.  This add-in responds to workbook open events by opening a particular XLA file (also deployed to the PC) to make certain features available.  This process works flawlessly when Excel files are
    opened locally - but when a user attempts to open an Excel file from an IE link, we get the following error: "Open method of Workbooks class failed".  This is happening on the line that is trying to open the XLA file.  This only happens
    when launching an Excel link from IE - works fine in Chrome or Firefox.
    I have found several posts on this topic, but no solutions:
    1. This post (https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/office/en-US/73c96005-84af-4648-b103-32b677205be3/open-method-of-workbooks-class-failed)
    is the closest to our problem.  In this case, the "answer" was that the user may not have access to the 2nd workbook being opened.  But in our case, we're opening an XLA that is on the local machine, and I've confirmed that it is not
    corrupt and accessible (read & write, just in case!) to Everyone.
    2. This (very old) post (http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/open-method-workbooks-fails-excel-hosted-ie-t965608.html)
    seems similar, but is talking about opening Excel inside of IE.  This is not what we're doing - the link is supposed to (and does) open Excel outside of IE.  Interestingly, Excel.exe is being launched with the "-embedded" flag, even
    though it isn't running in the IE window.  When launching Excel by opening the file locally, Excel.exe is run with the "/dde" flag instead.  Clearly the "-embedded" mode is what is causing the problem.  I could change the
    links on the web page to use some JavaScript to open Excel differently... unfortunately, the links are actually generated by SharePoint (the Excel files are in a SP repository), so this is not really an option.
    3. This Microsoft KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/268016) talks about problems opening an XLA directly from IE... but this is the case of a link pointing
    directly to an XLA file, not opening a regular workbook that in turn opens an XLA, as is my case.  In fact, this article specifically points out in the "More Information" section that "End users do not normally open XLAs; instead they open
    an XLS that (if needed) loads one or more XLAs during startup." ==> precisely what I'm trying to do that is giving me the error!
    I've replicated the situation with a very simple COM add-in (created in VS2010 using VB.Net) and a very simple XLA file (does nothing, just pops up a message in auto_open).  For anyone wanting to try it out, here is the exact test case:
    1. In Excel, create a simple XLA file containing only the following code, and save it in C:\TEMP\dummy.xla:
    Sub Auto_Open()
    MsgBox "Auto Open fired"
    End Sub
    2. In Visual Studio, create a new Excel 2010 Add-In.  I created mine via Visual Basic, but I doubt the choice of language matters.  Place the following code in ThisAddin.vb:
    Public Class ThisAddIn
    Private Sub ThisAddIn_Startup(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Startup
    AddHandler Me.Application.WorkbookOpen, AddressOf Application_WorkbookOpen
    End Sub
    Private Sub ThisAddIn_Shutdown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Shutdown
    End Sub
    Sub Application_WorkbookOpen(ByVal workbook As Excel.Workbook)
    On Error GoTo ErrHandler
    If (Not workbook.Name.Contains("dummy.xla")) Then
    MsgBox("Workbook open")
    Application.Workbooks.Open("C:\temp\dummy.xla")
    Application.Workbooks("dummy.xla").RunAutoMacros(Excel.XlRunAutoMacro.xlAutoOpen)
    End If
    Exit Sub
    ErrHandler:
    MsgBox(Err.Description)
    End Sub
    End Class
    3. Build & publish this add-in and install it on the same machine as the XLA created in step 1.
    4. Create and save an empty Excel workbook (I called mine WayneTest1.xlsx) - save it locally (on your desktop), and put a copy somewhere on your web server (I put mine directly in c:\inetpub).
    5. Create an HTML file with a link to that workbook, saving it to the same web server location - here is mine:
    <html>
    <body>
    <a href="WayneTest1.xlsx">Link to Excel file</a>
    </body>
    </html>
    6. Double click the workbook on your desktop (from step 4) - opens fine, I get the "workbook open" message, following by the "Auto Open fired" message.
    7. In Internet Explorer, navigate to the HTML file specified in step 5 and click on the link - when prompted, select "Open" - I get the "workbook open" message, following by the error message "Open method of Workbooks class failed".
    Here are a few things I've ruled out / tried so far:
    - Unchecked all the "Protected View" settings in Excel, made no difference
    - Unchecked all the "File block settings" in Excel, made no difference
    - Made sure dummy.xla was open for read & write to Everyone
    - Made sure the web page was in Trusted sites and set the security level to Low for those sites in IE
    - Tried making the local desktop file (step 6) readonly, made no difference (i.e. launching it locally still worked fine)
    - Tried using Excel 2013 - made no difference
    Any ideas / suggestions?

  • [Sdk-Free]Raise your income with free Android application via number of downloads

    Hello everyone!
    I’ve found out a way to get money from free applications uploaded to market. By using a SDK to integrate some code into your application, you can get some cents through number of downloads. Each time an user download your application, you get 0.05$ for American user or 0.01$ for user in other countries.
    For more information, you can register an account via the link below, then login and freely learn about this SDK. Just only one integrated line of code, only activated at the first time your application run on devices, this is so handy and barely affects users’ experience.
    Link to register: http://startapp.com/rfim2de
    That means using this SDK won’t affect any ads services at all (like Admob).
    I used this SDK and my income was raised significantly. With the additional income from Admob I can get nice amount each month.
    I hope this will be a new way to get money for free application developers.
    If you still doubt me, you can download my app in this link below to check:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=HNYD#?t=W251bGwsbnVsbCxudWxsLDEwMiwiY29tLm hueWR0ZWFtLmNoZXNzdm4iXQ..
    To get used with this SDK quickly you can read my tutorial here:
    Step 1: Register an account
    Click on: http://startapp.com/rfim2de, you’ll see the registration form:
    [img]http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o756/hnyd/register_zpse4ab882f.png[/img]
    Fill your information and click “Create account”, then you’ll finish step 1.
    Step 2: Download the SDK
    After logging in, you’ll be redirected to your management page. There’s 2 ways to download the SDK.
    Add an application by selecting “Add App”, fill the details, URL to the application then select “Next”. Choose “Full Intergration”. That’s all.
    Or: Download this file:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?56dz18a3gd2tdt7
    Step 3: Integrate the SDK into your application
    - Inject SDK into your app:
    + Right click on your apps, choose “Properties”
    + Inject the SDK like the picture below
    [img]http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o756/hnyd/libraries_zpsc25292af.png[/img]
    + Move to the “Order and Export” tab and select like below:
    [img]http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o756/hnyd/order_zps2c6112b8.png[/img]
    Step 4: Insert information into Manifest file
    +  Add the following lines to your Manifest file (just copy & paste):
    <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"/>
    <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_WIFI_STATE"/>
    <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE"/>

  • How to open a file with a link ?

    I am using servlets to design an application.
    The application supports uploading and downloading of .DOC and .RTF files.
    My problem is that I am opening an uploaded file via a link.
    OPen File
    The above is also working fine and opens the file in the IE browser.
    But my problem is that I want to open the file with MS-Word...as is done on many resume-building websites.
    1) How am I supposed to do that ?
    2) Can I specify ContentType="application/msword" in a link ?
    Please Help !!

    I did the foll. w.r.t a docbase.
    A docbase stores documents and assigns an unique id to each one. The foll. is a code snippet that opens a document's contents in a browser.
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException
    Connection conn = null;
    Statement stm;
    ServletOutputStream sos = null;
    ResultSet res;
    // .... get id of document u want to open
    query = "select id from .. where object_name = ' xx' .."
    res= stm.executeQuery(query);
    Blob blob = res.getBlob("_content"); // this will get content of document identified by id
    int blobLen = (int)blob.length();
    //the foll. is the part u need..
    if (blobLen > 0) {
    InputStream contents = blob.getBinaryStream();
    response.setContentType("application/msword"); // MS Word
    byte[] buf = new byte[blobLen];
    int length = -1;
           while ((length = contents.read(buf)) != -1){
              sos = response.getOutputStream();
              sos.write(buf,0,blobLen);
    sos.flush();
    System.out.println("Doc Received");
    contents.close();
      res.close();
      conn.close();
    }
