I Clicked Icon On Desktop But Will Not Open Firefox!! 4.0
I Have Uninstalled And Installed 4.0 Several Times But Will Not Do Anything When I Click Icon In Desk Top!
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
* [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
* [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
* [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]
* [http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/ Hitman Pro]
* [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] article.

Why can't I launch itunes by clicking icon on desktop or toolbar?
I've downloaded the latest version, but the only way I can get itunes to launch is by plugging in my ipod. Any ideas?
So iTunes starts and works normally when you plug in your iPod, but not when you double click on your desktop shortcut?
Does anything happen when you double click on the icon? If you start the task manager (press ctrl and delete), does iTunes appear on the processes tab?
The only thing I can suggest is that you try creating a new desktop shortcut and see if that works.
Go to My computer C: drive
Open Program Files\iTunes
Right click on iTunes.exe and select Send To>>Desktop (create short cut) -
When I click on the Firefox desktop icon, I get a Bing search page. Nothing relating to Firefox is evident and the only way I can get out of the Bing search page is using Control/Alt/Delete. I can't access anything in Firefox at all.
A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Can you start Firefox in Offline mode via the Profile Manager
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager
If there is a problem with searching via the default about:home page then try to reset the search engine used on the about:home page.
Reset the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone pref via the right-click context menu to the default on the about:config page and close and restart Firefox to restore the about:home page to its default.
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/about:config
#Open the about:config page via the location bar
#Type in the Filter bar: mstone
#Right-click the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone line and select: Reset
#Close and restart Firefox
If this didn't help then delete the delete the chromeappsstore.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder and repeat the above.
You can reset some preferences to the default with the SearchReset extension:
*https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons). -
Until I upgraded to 4.0 I had no trouble with accessing Mozilla.
I too find that Firefox 4 is an absolute memory hog. It takes forever to do anything. I have a small eMachines, one of the last ones to be installed with Windows XP. Firefox 4 seems to assume a volume of memory that simply does not exist on my machine.

Premiere Pro cs5.5 will not open after double-clicking icon
I have uninstalled and reinstalled from disk. I double-click the icon and the opening screen begins and then closes down. I've run windows update to make sure everything is up to date and it still will not open. Any suggestions on what to do?
I don't think that is a graphics adapter, that is an I/O device... from what I have read
--Windows 7 click START and look on the right side
--Go to Windows Control Panel from START popup
--NOTE that I do not have Win8 so can't give instructions
--Click Hardware and Sound and then click Device Manager
--Click the + sign at Display Adapters
--Right click the display adapter and select Properties
The "usual" is some model of ATI/AMD or an nVidia adapter
I have nVidia GTX285 with driver 296.10 -

Photoshop CS1 Mac can't open file by clicking icon
I am using Photoshop CS1 on my Mac Pro running 10.5.7. When I click on an image that is labeled an Adobe Photoshop image (jpeg or tiff), Photoshop opens, but the image does not. I realize that CS1 was not designed for an Intel Mac and I plan to upgrade to CS4 in the near future, but is there any way to set Photoshop CS1 to open the image when I click on the image?
Will I be able to open the image in this way on CS4?
I found this question was asked about a year ago, but the answers were links pasted into replies and I can't get the links to work. They just open the Forums main page. Thanks for any help you can give.I followed the instructions in the FAQ and re-installed to the desktop and then trashed the Photoshop folder on the desktop and restarted. I clicked a jpeg photo and it opened--just like magic!
Thanks again and also for the heads up regarding updates. I need a deadline to convince my funding source to spring into action. -

I run Windows 7. I downloaded Firefox 6.0 for Windows which resulted in the following which I cannot fix:
"I had Firefix, however I downloaded the newest Firefox along with all plugins. Now when I click in the desktop icon firefox refuses to open my default webpage. Why?....How do I fix this"
I can go to internet explorer or AOL and it opens right up to my homepage but not when I click on Firefox.That problem can be caused by the Yahoo! Toolbar that extents too much downwards and covers the top part of the browser window and thus makes links in that part of the screen not clickable.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

If I have two or more iTunes Libraries on one computer, how do I know which one is opening when I click on the iTunes icon on my desktop?
You cannot.
When you sync to a new library, it will erase the current content.
Use your backup copy of the old computer to copy everything to the new one. -
I've just installed Photoshop Elements 12 on my PC computer. At the end of the installation, I received a message that the installation was successful. I then tried to click on the desktop icon, but it won't open. Any ideas as to what could be going on? Thanks very much!
This worked for me
Sandeep Singh (Official Rep) replied to this problem:
Elements 12: Editor will not Open
Hi Kimberly,
Please follow these steps:
Try to rename SLCacje to Slcache.old
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe
and
SLStore to Slstore.old
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\SLStore
and Right Click on the Photoshop Elements 12 icon and run as administrator
Let me know if this works.
Thanks
