Open old file (version 2.0)

Hi to all.
First of all, sorry for my english, but i'm italian.
A Few days ago, my notebook has left me without a reason.
The installed version was the 2.0. (yes, it was an old notebook).
I was working on a file (5 months of working).
I tried to open this file with CS5 and CS4 (with computers of friends)...but there's no way...
As shown in the picture below, at half of conversion, the program crashed. No way to go ahead (either with CS5 and CS4).
There's a way to open this file?
I don't want throw away 5 months of my life for a "stupid" program.
Someone can help my? If you want I can send you the file (10 MB).

BUG - Edge animate 2014.1 (October) can't open old files (from 2014 version)

In this new version I can’t open old files anymore…
When I open file that created in previous version 92014, for example) new Edge - 2014.1 - want to upgrade the file, but then I receive “an error occurred while upgrading file”…
And there is no way to download old version and to change old files if i need some changes in text, for example...

Older version of After Effects to open old file?

I have tons of projects in After Effects 6. One of the reasons I joined Adobe Cloud was because I want to update to OSX Mountain Lion and AE6 won't run on ML. I just attempted to open one of my old projects, and get the error message "This file was created with an older version of After Effects [6.0(Macintosh PPC)], and can't be opened. You can convert this file using an older version of After Effects and resaving." Well, I only have access to my copy of AE6, is it possible through the Adobe Cloud to get a version of After Effects that will open these files so I can up-convert it? Or any other method to get these files to open in the newest version of AE? Re-building is not really an option, these are projects that are years old and are continually being updated with text.

It's a matter of testing resources. If we were to allow After Effects CS6 (11.0) to read files all the way back to version 1.0, then we'd have to test opening of files for every version all the way back to 1.0, making sure that every feature worked and was converted correctly. This is an immense amount of testing. We have determined that going back five versions (to 7.0) is enough to satisfy nearly everyone's needs---especially since the few people who still need to convert files from even earlier versions have the workaround of doing a two-step conversion process by way of After Effects CS4, CS5, et cetera. We spend the time that we save on testing other features that we expect that far more people will use. That is the nature of software development with finite resources.

Can't open old files in Pages. Don't want to upgrade. Help please

I am happy with my old Pages program ... some files I created on the old Pages open fine, as normal. However, some files I created on the
old Pages (created in Dec. 2013) will not open. I get a pop up from Apple saying that I have to upgrade.
I would be delighted to upgrade and pay the $20 but I read horrible reviews about the new Pages upgrade. So I would like to stick with my old
Pages but how can I open these files that are closed to me unless I purchase the new upgrade. Inexplicably, I can open some files that I created this month on the old pages. But some will not open.
Is there a trick to opening these Pages files ?
Or should I go ahead and get the new download and take a chance. I only mix text with photos ... no footnotes.

Hi Jerry ... you were absolutely correct ... I must have downloaded the new version since I found Pages-Applications in Spotlight. Then I dragged it from Application to the dock where it now sits next to my old Pages. I tried to open up my file but still could not. How can I export it back to Word 09 (my old Pages) if I cannot open it. And this file will not open now, even when I have my new Pages in the dock. Or should I just give up on opening this file.
Also, I think I prefer the old Pages (Word 09) ... how can I make sure that I am creating documents in this program. I assume that I can keep it and continue to work with that. I guess the only way to prevent this from happening again is to check if I am using the old Pages before I start a document ??

Office for Mac 2011 - can't open old files

I am currently on Mac OS X v10.6.8. I recently installed Office for Mac 2011. I cannot open some of my old files. I think the ones that use the old file names, e.g. .doc and .xls, rather than .docx and .xlsx.
Can anyone explain how I can open these files in my Office for Mac 2011?

Open old files in Logic 8

Hi
I have some old files created in Logic 4.7 on a G4 running Mac OS 9, when I try to open these in Logic 8 on my current iMac, it tells me to save them first in Logic 7 which I don't have. Unfortunately I've had quite a gap between upgrades - I've gone from vs. 4.7 to vs. 8.
I'd appreciate your help.

this is one of the biggest incompatibility that comes with LP8...
the song comes from a Pro tools compatible (not Unversal Track Mode)... in this tipe of songs if you try to use freeze with logic 8 on a mono to stereo track a disaster incoming ... the next track doesen't work
that's why I had to buy the third UAD card
I cannot use freeze in my old LP7 songs setted as no-universal track mode
Thanks to front line Apple engineers but I work with Logic from version 1 and Creator/Notator and I always found a solution for get the great sound of Logic 8
(I can do everithing with logic, until now, and I know all most incomatibility)
Logic 8 is very similar as LP7 that is why I can do my professional job with it
... AND... if the name of the app is Logic 8 PRO, it must be compatibile with the oldest version... this is not my problem.... it is a Apple engineer problem
they are 2 option
1) be able to give the compatibility with a converter
2) change the Name of the Logic.... like Garage Band Pro 1.0!!!
Anyway, as you see I can work with old LP7 project and now, I'm sure: logic 8 on leopard work faster than Tiger... at least 15% faster on my machine
I love Logic and I hope that the engineers do not want to break this love (and my ba**s)
Logic is a very complex app... that's why (i think) they need much time to fix the new features and the update...

Opening old files in Logicpro 8

Hi
I have just started working with LogicPro 8 (on my MacbookPro- 10.5) and I have a lot of midi-flies created in Logic 2.6 and 3 and 4.5, which I now need to open in Logic 8.
But when opening the old files, I am told that I need to open them in Logic 7.
But I do not have Logic 7. How do I solve this? Can I download the Logic 7 for free, now that I have just purchased Logic 8.

Yeah, basically you have to open them in Logic 7 and then save them as Logic 7 files which Logic 8 can then read. Its a bit strange that something as basic as an earlier logic midi file would cause problems for Logic 8. Have you tried exporting them as standard midi files using your older version of Logic? Logic 8 may be able to read those.

I need pages 09 to open old files on my new iMac

I have a new iMac and cannot open old Pages files that were transferred to it. I have Pages 08, but need Pages 09.
Any ideas?

Open the Mac App Store and update your iWorks apps.
You haven't bothered to tell us anything about your system so we have no idea what version of OS X you run. However assuming you have ML 10.6.6 or later you have access to the Mac App Store.

Can't open FCP file (version 5.1.1)

I have a FCP file file that will not open. The movie file included 1) imported pictures 2) movie footage, 3) several sound tracks (two from Cds and about 5 sound track files from SoundTrak Pro for effects); the movie file has a duration of about 5 minutes. I’ve tried the following (in this order):
1. Checked the autosave vault. While I can recover the file, I’ve lost 14 hours of editing so I would like to find a better solution.
2. Moved the Soundtrack files so they are no longer referenceable (moved these to another folder); that didn’t work.
3. Repaired disk permission s (only had two differences) so I don’t think this was the problem; that didn’t work.
4. Moved the render files so they are no longer referenceable; that didn’t work.
5. Moved the media files offline; that didn’t work.
I am using FCP 5.1.1 on OS X Version 10.4.6, on a Dual 2 Ghz Power PC G5, 2 GB DDR SDRAM Memory. I started the project on FCP 5.1.1 I didn’t create the FCP file in an earlier version. I also haven’t moved the files from one disk to another (I created the movie file on my primary drive). I have checked the support postings but can’t find something with exactly the same situation (one of the above items seems to have worked for most people) but I’ve tried these and the FCP file will not open. I would really appreciate your help on this! Thanks.
Power Mac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I got FCP Rescue and opened the application. There isn't much to this application except "Trash" as I understand it. So, I clicked on Trash. After the third try of reopening the FCP file, it OPENED! Yea, which is great! So, that is good. Thank you for the suggestion; that was helpful!
While I can see the file and can export it to Quicktime; for some reason the movie file will only play about 5 seconds and then stop/start/stop/start, etc. I am using "Safe RT", Playback Video Quality is set to "Low", and Frame rate is "low". I've tried various combinations of these including Dynamic; the movie won't play for more than two-five seconds which makes it very difficult to edit.
I have 40 gigabytes remaining on my hard drive; could this be causing a playback problem? The playback worked fine before I couldn't open the FCP file. For some reason after I opened the file it won't playback smoothly.

Indesign cannot open "old files" CS6.

I was supposed to do a few adjustments in a project, i have opened it before and been working in it alot.. (2 months since last time i was working with this project) When i was supposed to do some minor fixes etc on this project yesterday i cannot open the file. The project it self are only on 8900 kB. What to do???? I can open my recently "newly" made and used projects.... Ive tryed some other projects that was also old, all between 2-6 months.. And it is just randomly witch i can open and witch i "Cannot open"..

First, a tip: Try manually breaking the links to the file by moving that document you want to open to your desktop or another directory or such and then try opening them... (corrupt image previews and/or images can then be largely elminated as a potential cause)
As @Peter mentioned, we (Markzware - link here to how that works) can likely fix this file. Interesting notes from @jongware above. Without having seen this file, our research shows there are various reasons an InDesign file can head south and corrupt or crash on you. Just like a doctor can not always say what caused the problem, there are some basic steps we all should take. For instance, OS up to date, InDesign using the latest update available, enough disk space and scartch disk space for heavy Adobe design operations. Here is a list of some of the most common issues with bad INDD documents:
* Corrupt Font(s) (or corrupt font caches - see below)
* Corrupt Image(s)
* Power Failure
* Placing images via drag-and-drop from an Internet page
* Working on an InDesign file over a network or on a remote server

ERRORS Muse not menus working, JSON, can't open old files

Using 2014.4CC
I built out a site, went to save an upload to BC.
Midway thru upload, got a JSON error .. see screenshot below. It exited, reopened the file and happened again.
Renamed the folder at ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Adobe Muse CC to force a refresh of prefs ... Muse would open, but no menus, can't open pages, exit, etc ...
So I uninstalled Muse using the uninstaller in Apps folder, cleared the folders in ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Adobe Muse CC
Reinstalled Muse from CC app ... opens, can create a new site, but open any old ones, the menus still don't work.
How do i get a fresh install and open my older files again?

All menus grayed out ... can't edit old files, can only create a new one ....
What folders do i purge and install Muse? This all started with a JSON error above ... using late Muse app 2014.2

Opening old files in newer Garageband

I have a bunch of old Garageband files that I saved to an external HD prior to selling my old macmini years ago. I have never been able to reopen them.
My macbook has Garageband 3.04, but I also have a new mac mini that I just bought (with the 5.1). Neither one can open up my old files, which I imagine are from 2.x
They show up with the garageband icon, and when i click on them garageband opens, but the files themselves never open.
Any help appreciated.

Anyone? Any other ideas? I've been playing around with it a bit, and I have discovered somethings.
If I open the "show package contents" of the file, most songs have two folders and 1 additional file. The file is just a datafile for the song, and the folders are always "Freeze Files" (ironic, since these songs just make garageband appear to freeze forever) and "media". The two folders are full of aif files, apparently all the tracks from the song.
I can play all these tracks in itunes with no problems. And I can even import the aif files from the "media" folder if I drag them into a new garageband song. But when I try and import the aif files in the "freeze files" folder, it gives me the error message:
"The audio file xxxx.aif has a 32 bit format and can't be used."
Could this have something to do with why the files won't open?
Anyway, help will be appreciated and rewarded with Karma and cookies (cookies will come later).

How do I open old files without application extensions on them?

I have lots of 1995 or so files written from a mac on 3.5 diskets most of which I have read onto disk.
But they have no extensions and I can't seem to open them.
If I had to guess I would say they are canvas, possibly powerpoint but using powerpoint 98and canvas 7 I can"t seem to open them.
I have a G3 powerbook. a G3 tower both running OS9, a powerPC macmini running OS10 and OS9 in emulation, a PC portable running System10 and another PC portable running XP.
What are my options short of seppuku?
I need to get these files to teach a course.

Can't open old files in CS2 in proper format

Hi,
I can open my files but not in color, and my base maps imported via cut and paste do not show up; and I cannot move most objects or alter text boxes. The top of the screen shows RGB/outline.

Can't open old files in CS5 since upgrading to OS X 10.9 Mavericks

Since I upgraded to OS X, I can open all my CS5 programs and create new files. However, I can't open files I created (even a week ago on CS5) since I upgraded to Mavricks. I googled it and I tried updating my Adobe drive and I updated Java, but I still can't open any file I created before downloading mavericks. In Indesign, I get an error message "Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing or the file may be opened by another application" and In Illustrator I just get the spinning wheel of death...
Any ideas or suggestions?
