Open old Pagemaker pmd files in CC Indesign

How can I open Pagemaker files with pmd extension in CC Indesign? I'm using Windows 7.

If you have a Creative Cloud subscription, you can download Creative Suite 6. It can open Pagemaker 6.x files.
Go to the Creative Cloud desktop application. In the list of Apps, there is a menu called Filters & Versions. Choose Previous Versions to download CS6.

I created a special get well card in Pagemaker 4 for my aunt. She has since died, but I would like to convert it to CS 5, and then distribute it to the family. I saw elsewhere that it can only import PM 6.0 and higher. Any other solutions I can try? Thanks

Pagemaker 7 is still available. Download the trial and convert the file (or print it from there). Keep in mind that you must unembed any images and make sure all links are up to date before converting to ID, and the results of conversion can be anythng from pretty good to useless.

Can't open or print .PMD files in Pagemaker 7.01 or InDesign CS or CC... HALP!

Good afternoon. I have Pagemaker 7.01 on a Windows 8.1 desktop - and have been using it just fine - until this past Wednesday - when suddenly, a file I've been able to open and print stopped working, and now every time I open Pagemaker, I get a PLUGIN ERROR message: "Plug-in cannot be completed. Some systems operations failed. [7212] [4816]" I checked for a fix, and all the postings suggested were I download a Reg Cleaner (BIG mistake... MAJOR scam, if ever there was one) and/or delete as many of my unused fonts, as that would be the culprit(s). Nope. Didn't fix a thing... relating to the issues we're having. I even attempted to open a back-up file - and got the same prompt. Ditto on a different computer (running Windows 7). SAME error message. I tried to access the file in InDesign, but - InDesign says it "may not support the file format, or a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing. I am lost without being able to access these files and print them. Does anyone have any suggestions?!

Have you tried opening one of the PM files with CS3?
If so, the result might range from acceptable to not so good. Part of it depends on the images being embedded or link, and the fonts. Sometimes the phase of the moon seems to come into play (not really, but it seems like that at times).
If you have your install for PM, you might hunt down an XP Pro computer and try installing PM on it you may have better success.
If you would like someone else to try, you would need to ZIP up the PM file(s) and upload to dropbox.com or another file sharing server and provide a link. If the files are sensitive, consider uploading them and sharing the link to download privately through the private messaging here.

I am using Indesign CS4 in Mac OS X 10.6.2. I have done all the latest updates to Indesign.
I was trying to open and old .pmd Page Maker file that was created in a Windows version of Page Maker. I am not sure what version they were saved in. The file was created in July of 2006 if that helps.
Is there a way to open this file. I also have a pdf that I created from this file. I have Acrobat CS4 Is there a way to export the pdf back to an Indesign file. Just another thought regarding this file.

It's been a long time since I was up to speed on PageMaker. The pmd file extension refers to Pagemaker 5, right? InDesign should be able to import the output of PM 6.5 and PM 7, but I've found that the PM6.5 import is usually pretty decent, while for some reason the PM7 import is flaky. This probably is a result of changes in the way the documents were build by the, ah, "designers," and has comparatively little to do with the abilities of ID to open PM files of various versions. PM5, however, can't be imported by InDesign, I think.
What happens when you try to open them? Does InDesign crash, or does it fail without an error message, or ??? More details, please.

Well, there's always the PDF2ID tool, but since PDF is an uneditable container format, the results of running a PDF through PDF2ID is not reliable. Sometimes you get something very much like the source document, but I've found that most often it is faster to rebuild from scratch. I didn't buy PDF2ID, but that is because my clients' bizarro formatting techniques break on conversion. A very simple document might come back a lot cleaner.

Help converting old pagemaker mac files

Have a set of old pagemaker for mac files for a publication (text book - total of 34 chapters, roughly 1,000 pages). Do not know which version of pagemaker was used. Original publisher has gone out of business, but do have original source files. Would like to convert the set of files to a format for use in newer adobe tools - framemaker or indesign so we can do updates and publish again. Looking for someone to do this conversion, please.

If I were you, I would start by downloading the trial version of PageMaker 7 and see if I can open the files with that. If they open, the rest should be easy and you could complete your conversion to version 7 in the 30 days trial period, saving yourself time and money. The new files could be afterwards opened with InDesign, probably not completely faultlessly, but...

Can't open more than one file at once (Indesign CS3)

I have to deal with a strange problem, every time (well actually randomly) I try to open more than one indesign file at once, indesign just stays in the background and I can't get it to show up.
the only thing I can to is force quite the application and restart indesign. Sometimes I'm able to see one of the open documents but I can't do anything with it (as there are no tools and no other indesign windows).
Im not the only one having this problem, my work mate just updated his osx from 10.4 to 10.5, and now he is having the same problems...
any suggestions why that is?

Every system has issues when its first released.
What's the point of jumping to a new system on a production machine when everything works perfectly in the old system?
Monitor these forums and other boards and as soon as Apple and Adobe have a fix jump to the new system.

Can't open old appleworks/clarisworks files

I have just purchased the new intel iMac and cannot open my old clarisworks/appleworks 5 files properly. I imported them from my old 333 MHz/OS 9.2.2 iMac using a jump drive. Is my best option to try MacLink? I will be purchasing MS Word also but have found that some of the old files will not format properly when I try to open them in the trial version of Word which came with the new computer. The text files are fine when I open them in Word but anything like tables, charts is a formatted mess. I did use MacLink on my old iMac and found it worked well but it is a bit more expensive now than when I bought it before ($20) .

I never realized that the jump drives were formatted to Windows or Mac but I am really new at some of these advances in file transfer as well as just about everything else in Apple Computer land. However, regarding the jump drive which I used to transfer the old files: it is a Lexar Jump Drive 2 GB, USB 2.0 Flash Drive. The installation notes indicate that it is for "Windows 2000/Me/XP and Mac OS 9.0 or Higher. No driver installation required. Plug the JumpDrive into the USB port on your computer and it's ready for use." That would indicate to me that this is probably not the problem. As I indicated before, the old files which are straight text which were created in AW 5 or perhaps even earlier versions and/or Clarisworks open perfectly, properly formatted, etc. when I drag them onto the trial version of Microsoft Word located on the dock of my new computer. My problem is with charts created in the word processor and spreadsheets which display as garbage when I drag them onto MS Word. Regarding the ethernet option, I would think that I still would have the same problem since I have no appropriate program on my new computer to open those old files - the trial version of MS Word isn't doing it for all the files. There are no firewire ports on my old iMac so that is not an option. I have come to the conclusion that Peggy's suggestion of purchasing AW 6.2.4 at the very reasonable price of $24.99 from Hardcore Mac sounds like the most promising option since I would then have an application on my new computer which should open the old files assuming that it does recognize the old AW created files (I believe that some of them were created in versions earlier than AW 5). I am assuming that the intel processor in my new computer isn't going to be a problem with AW 6.2.4. So I'm ready to purchase this program. Does this sound like the most reasonable course of action to follow? Thanks again for your help.

Need PCD filter or converter to open old photo disc files

Is there a filter or file converter to open old files from photo CD's
Some files are PCD format and some files are PCT/Quickdraw
The PCD files can be converted with Apple Store's Best Image Converter XV but the resolutions seem low.
The QuickDraw (Some kind of Pict?) image can be opened in Preview but only exported as a pdf which in turn needs another conversion to jpg or tif.
Photoshop seems to have dropped support for both these formats.
Unfortunately I have a few hundred of these files.

New MS Word won't open old MS Word files

We've got a new MacBook Pro, running Lion, with MS Word 2011 for Mac. We've just copied over our old MS Word (Mac) files, with the .doc file ending. I think the files were created in MS Word 2004, some files even ealier than this. The new MS Word 2011 (which we've updated) will open the old files. We have to open the file in Word using "recover text from any file" --- but they loose all their formatting.
How can we open the files and not loose the formatting?

Yes using Lion on Mac and both Win 7 Pro and XP Pro on PC hardware. On PCs I have Office 2000 installed, yes even in Win 7 (and Win 8 Preview, Office 2000 installed without a problem). On Mac I have Office 2011 Mac, and all updates.
As far as the files they are all in a folder called My Documents on both systems. I change/edit or create files on either system then I use a Sync program to sync the My Docs folder between all PCs and Mac. If I'n sitting at one of the PCs and need to open any doc I just open it, word opens and loads the file. Same for if I'm sitting at the Mac. I have Word files that were created on Word 95 (or whatever that was called) Word 98 and now 2000 and Mac 2011.
Never had any problems. Even if by accident I save a file in the new DOCX format on the Mac. I have the Document converter program installed on the PCs that only have Office 2000 installed.
Sorry I don't have any real tips for you as mine Just Works, both Windows and Mac.

Pagemaker development and support was discontinued at least a decade ago.
At this point you should go through and convert any PageMaker content you think you will ever need to access since at some point, even InDesign 8 (CS6) won't run on future operating systems versions.

Can I open Aldus Pagemaker 1990s files in any software on a Mac using OSX 10.8.2

I have a number of old files on CD which I am fairly certain are old Aldus Pagemaker files from the early 1990s although they appear in Finder as Unix Executable files. Is there any way that they can be opened? Does Pagemeaker still exist in any form that can be operated on my Mac (Mountain Lion)?

With the newer Intel Macs, you have to run a Classic emulator such as SheepShaver, which requires you to extract the Mac ROMs from your older Classic Mac and then install Mac OS 9.

This seems to be activation issue,
Please sign out from Creative cloud desktop app and Quit it.
quit all the Adobe applications
Assuming you're on Windows machine
Go to the following location and rename Adobe folder to old.Adobe
C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming
C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local
Then try to launch Creative Cloud Desktop app and Sign in with your Adobe ID and Password.
and Launch Premiere pro, hope that helps.

What version of Photoshop do I need on new MBP with 10.6.3 in order to open old Photoshop 7 files?

I have been using Photoshop7 for many years on a 10.2.8 Powerbook G4. Just purchased a MacbookPro 2.4 with OS 10.6.3. I found out that only CS4 and CS5 will run on Snow Leopard. I have not been able to find out if either will read PS7 files. Has anyone had experiences with this? I've transferred all of my PS7 files to the new computer but have yet to purchase anything to read them. Would appreciate any help.

Photoshop 7 stopped working with OSX version 10.5. This is not a new issue and is covered in the FAQs.
As Chris points out CS5 is the only version for sale now and there is no upgrade path from Photoshop 7 to CS5.
I am not trying to download the Photoshop7 program to My MBP with OS10.6.3. I am planning to purchase the new version. I just wanted to make sure I could open my old PS7 files with the new version of Photoshop. PS7 was on my old Powerbook. I only transferred the files to the new computer.

Can't open old iWeb domain file (yes, I have asked in the other forum!)

I had to wipe my MacBook hard drive and reinstall my data and OSX. Having tried to restore my iWeb domain file from Time Machine, I find I am unable to open it. (I've asked this question in the iWeb forum but was eventually directed here.) I've tried seemingly everything, including changing the file's permissions, wiping iWeb preferences, creating a new domain, deleting it and replacing it with the old one. Still I'm told iWeb can't open the file.
Could it be corrupted? It's probably relevant that it was created under a different account (I had to create a new one when I wiped the disk) and I believe iWeb doesn't like opening domains created by "another" user.
Any help much appreciated. It's important because I am applying for a new job and my online folio -- aka my iWeb website -- is not up-to-date, which looks very strange.

I have to confess, I was hoping someone with more knowledge about iWeb's Domain file would chime in. Evidently not, though.
Let's try something else. Run the following two commands in the Terminal (paste them in, only one at a time, and hit return after each one):
