  • Unable to open PDF documents on web pages

Installed Adobe Reader most recent version on a new Windows 7 Pro 64-bit computer. When attempt to open .pdf files found on work related websites, it launches a window that just has a box with a black "x" in it. Checked the Edit, Preferences settings and using IE 11 with plug-in set to Enabled. Already attempted to uninstall and reinstall Adobe Reader from Adobe.com.

The solution is described in this Microsoft KB: 32-bit browser applications may not work as expected in Internet Explorer 10
However, the "Fixit" in that article is only for IE10 on Windows 8, so you will have to make that registry change manually.
To apply that change automatically, download, unzip, then run the registry script from https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/326544ed-32ab-4f15-a133-514abb5f61cc

  • How can I get Safari 5.1.2 to automatically open pdf files on web pages by using Adobe Reader?

Safari 5.1.2 always opens pdf files on web pages as a single frame and thus it will not print properly.  How can I get Safari to open all pdfs with Adobe Reader 10.1.1?

    Carolyn,
Thanks for sending your suggestion on how to solve my problem.  Unfortunately, it did not work for me.  I trashed the file, quit and relaunched Safari, but the problem remained the same.  Although it did not work, I do appreciate that you took the time to try to help me.
    Thanks.

Read here >  Known Issues | Adobe products on Mac OS 10.7 Lion
    And go to ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Move the PDF Browser plugin to the Trash.
    Quit Safari, empty the Trash.
Relaunch Safari.  You should be able to view PDF files now.

  • Reading PDF documents from Web pages, Acrobat vs. Preview

When I encounter Web pages with PDF document links, I'd like to open them using the Adobe Acrobat application, not Preview. I haven't found a way to change the behavior of the Mac OS to permit me to set the default app.
I did find a way to change the default app to open PDF documents on the hard drive (though I can't recall where I found this feature), but it has no effect when I click links in Web pages.
By the way, I'm using Firefox as my default browser, not Safari.
How do I change the behavior? Is there a better support forum than this one?
    Thanks.
    Jerry

    I think you need this Firefox Add-on for handling PDFs in Firefox;
    PDF Download
Allows to choose if you want to view a PDF file inside the browser (as PDF or HTML), if you want to view it outside Firefox with your default or custom PDF reader, or if you want to download it!
I was reminding you how you set files to use certain programs because you said you forgot how.

  • Can I set up safari to automatically open PDF documents in the pages app?

Can I set up safari to automatically open PDF documents from the internet into the pages app?

No - and you can't open pdf files in the Pages app on the iPad anyway as far as I know. You can export a Pages file as a pdf but you can't open them in Pages.

  • Open .pdf in a web page

My client is the publisher of a magazine and that magazine
has a web site. He wants to place a .pdf file on a page in the web
site and have it open in that page. I know how to insert a .pdf so
the viewer can download it. What we want to do is different than
that. Just want to open the .pdf in a web page.
I have no idea how to do this.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Opening pdf embedded in web pages hangs

Reader 10.0.1 running on Windows 7 64 bit, ever since the upgrage to Reader 10, when I try to view a web page that has an embedded pdf, it tries to open, finishes the download, then just locks up.  I have run repair from the reader help menu and from control panel, and then it will work for a few pages, but eventually hangs again.  The repair does not seem to be a permanent solution.  Any ideas on how to permanently repair this?  If not I'll need to roll back to 9.4.3.

Having similar problem.....loads about 75% then hangs. Recycling doesn't help.  Can't save to a file.  Try to reopen and it is called a damaged document in the Temp Folder.

  • Unable to Open PDF Document on Web

Somebody, please help me since Adobe refused to unless I pay $39.
When I try to open a PDF document on the internet, I get the following error message:
    "ACROBAT PLUG-IN
The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.
Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again."
I have Acrobat 8 Professional installed running on Windows Vista OS. This error/message started not long ago. I do not know what I did to cause it.
Please, you Adobe guru guy, help me now.
Thank you VERY much in advance.

PDF files should be forward compatible, but not backward compatible. Thus, AA5 PDFs should still be fine. If there is a problem, it is likely they have been corrupted. You can open the PDF in a text editor (such as notepad) and look at how it starts. It should be something like "%PDF-1.4" where the %PDF-1.4 at the beginning provides the version number. If you do not see this form of the first 8 characters, then you do not have a PDF or the PDF is corrupt. The latter could happen depending on the manner in which you transferred the file to view. DO NOT Save the file from the editor.
A common mistake is to post PDFs with FTP using ascii. Unfortunately, only the 1st 8 characters are necessarily ascii and the rest may be binary -- the issue that messes up many e-mail programs that only check the first few characters for the ascii nature.
Hopefully that gives some thoughts of use.

  • How to display (not download) pdf document on web page?

Very confused as to how to hyperlink to a word document (pdf) and have the document displayed on my web page rather than download the document...I am putting together a website for a high school cross country team and would like to make meet results available....THANKS?

In that case, you would not create a hyperlink to it. This just enables it to be downloaded.
It won't work with Word, so it would have to be a pdf, but you can copy and paste it into iWeb. Go to the document and press Command + C. Then go to your iWeb page where you want the document to appear and press Command + V and it should appear in iWeb. You can alter and re-size it so that it can be viewed.

  • Can't open pdf files from web pages

I recently upgraded to Adobe Reader 8.1. Now I cannot open pdf files from email attachments. Advises to set Adobe Reader as default in folder options. When I try to do so, it appears to be OK, but still will not open files from emails.

Did you check the settings of your mail client for handling attachments?

  • Unable to open PDF from IE web pages

Windows 7, IE 11, Adobe Reader XI
I have no problem opening same when using Chrome so there must be some setting that I've failed to find in IE. I've reinstalled AR several times and adjusted as many IE settings as I've found suggestions for in the forum and elsewhere. Obviously, it's a real pain to have to go to Chrome every time I want to save a statement.
What would you suggest I try next?

Thanks to those who made suggestions. THE PROBLEM IS NOW, magically, FIXED.
Yesterday I, once again, opened AR from the desktop icon. Then I selected Repair Adobe Reader Installation and followed the steps to do that. I have successfully opened and saved all online the PDF statements that I have tried since.
Obviously the problem was with AR 11.0.10 and the repair (finally) worked.
I just noticed, as I mentioned above the installed version is now different than the version I was having the problem with.

    Every time Firefox opened

How about if you right click on the PDF and select Save Link As..., and then open it locally from within Reader? Does it work ok then?  That might be a workaround until the issue within the browser is resolved.

  • How do I open a pdf on a web page in Safari without Acrobat Reader?

At the moment I have removed Acrobat Reader 10.3.1 because it conflicts with Safari. Preview is a perfectly fine pdf reader (and with lots of very nice features) but I don't see how I can make Preview open a pdf from a web page until it has been downloaded to file. And I have found at least one site that will not download to file before opening.

Right-click in the PDF when it's displayed in Safari and select Open with Preview from the popup menu. Depending on how the PDF is embedded in the web page, this may not be possible.
