Open PDF File, extension mandatory

When opening a PDF file from Adobe Reader X in WinVista I wanted to enter the file name without extension (.pdf) in the name field (+ Enter).
Doing this now, Reader answers "File not found".
I have a setup on another PC with Win7 where this works right out of the box. Should be an option, but I don't know which of them.

That works for me on Win7 if PDF Files type is selected. No .pdf extension is needed.
On Vista it won't work and gives "File not found".

    The pdf is loading as html code. If you save it, it will download as :
    605124.pdf.html
    Change the extension to .pdf
    And it opens and works perfectly, I just tested it:

  • Unable to open PDF files in IE 10

    I'm using IE 10.0.9200.17028 and Adobe Reader 11.0.07. When accessing any website in IE 10 and clicking on a link to PDF file, a dialogue box opens that prompts to open or save PDF file. On selecting any of these options, operation fails. Looking at the name of the file in dialogue box, it appears that file name has become _pdf instead of .pdf
    When I select Open, a blank IE window opens. On selecting Save/Save As, I see message ".._pdf file couldn't be downloaded". I cannot open PDF in IE 10.
    Issue cannot be replicated when I use Chrome or Firefox. Also, I'm able to open any PDF file from my local drive.
    In IE 10, I  have checked Tools > Manage Add-ons > Toolbars and extensions > select "Run without permissions" in Show section > Adobe PDF Reader. Its status is enabled.
    Any idea how to be able to open PDF files in IE 10?

    This is probably a fault with the specific pdf file. If this is the case contact its creator. Can you download pdf files available on the Adobe website?

  • Problem on opening pdf file in IE inline (through streaming method)

    Hello
              I had a problem opening pdf file at IE through streaming. I create a page
              that have a hyperlink to open the new window and talk to a serlvet. When
              clicked, this serlvet will stream a pdf file from the file server to serlvet
              output stream. And the pdf file will be displayed within the browser.
              The problem comes that I can see the Acrobat Reader trailer screen display
              but the brower show nothing. I click refresh button to that serlvet to
              reload then it come up the content.
              Is anyone have the same trouble on this and any solution will be
              appreciated.

    Hello Rondy,
              You vae set mime type to application/pdf, which is good. But IE doesn't care
              of it !
              And I think your URL is too long because and I'm sure it leads to a buffer
              overflow (as they say at MS in their bug report).
              So as a workaround, you can rename your servlet mapping from Ecd/Download to
              Ecd/Download.pdf if you can, or make the URL length much more smaller.
              Try to go to MS site to find what is the precise bug#. I can't remember what
              it its number.
              I hope you'll find a solution.

  • Cannot open pdf files with Firefox's built-in pdf viewer

    This just started (I think) with Firefox 37.01. This is on Win7-X64. I cannot open pdf files with the Firefox built-in pdf viewer. If I click on the file or try to open it from within Firefox, it brings up a "opening filename.pdf" message. If I select the "Open with" radio button as 'Firefox (default),' it just keeps looping on this process; it never opens. In Tools => Options => Applications, Portable Document Format (PDF) is indicated as 'Preview in Firefox.' I've never had any other PDF viewer installed on this computer. I've tried disabling all plug-ins and extensions, but it still doesn't work. I searched for solutions but haven't found any for this specific issue.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hello,
    Have you tried, to start Firefox in safemode you can do so by following these steps
    '''If Firefox is open,''' you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
    * Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
    '''If Firefox is not running,''' you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode'' <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
    When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
    ;[[Image:SafeMode-Fx35]]
    '''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
    ''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''

  • Link to open pdf file in new window

    I want to create a link on a web page to open a pdf file in a
    new window. I used the "on click" "open brower window". Which does
    open the pdf file, but not in a new window. How do I open it in a
    new window?

    Your code is a mess:
    ** there is no apparent reason for the span:
    <td><span class="style1"
    onfocus="MM_openBrWindow('pdf/PR_launch.pdf','','')">Milford, OH
    So change that line to:
    <td>Milford, OH
    ** here you have two double quotes before This.
    <a title="”This" class="pdfFile"
    onclick="MM_openBrWindow('pdf/PR_Launch.pdf','','')"
    Change it to this, (with some other improvements):
    <a title="This" class="pdfFile"
    onclick="MM_openBrWindow(this.href,'','');return false"
    ** This is code salad:
    href="”PR_Launch.pdf”" link="" will="" open="" a=""
    .pdf=""
    file.”="">More (PR_Launch.pdf,
    230kb)</a></span></td>
    Change it to:
    href="pdf/PR_Launch.pdf">More (PR_Launch.pdf,
    230kb)</a></td>

  • Can't open pdf files posted in Facebook

    Instead of getting a dialogue box with the option to save the file I get redirected to a blank page. https://attachment.fbsbx.com/file_download.php?id=392022847530027&uid=1283073931&ext=13461 22360&hash=ASv7l5CiUPpVW0JI
    I have updated Adobe reader and Firefox. I have also tried disabling my anti virus, pop up blocker and firewall with no luck. This happens with both my PC (Windows Vista) and Mac. I have tried 3 different browsers as well.  I haven't had problems opening pdf files from other sites and other members of my FB group have been able to open the files successfully. Please help.

    It appears that you are not being given a direct link to download the pdf file, but the site is running a script (.php) to handle downloading the file in question. When this happens there is no interaction from Reader until the script properly runs. Since there is no file you can download yet, saving as target will not work. The script has to run to provide you with the download. Are you running any extension that prevents the running of scripts? What happens if you try Safari or Internet Explorer?

  • Why can't I open pdf files in firefox anymore?

    When opening pdf files it will only go in a loop and won't stop making new tabs.
    The only way to stop this is by clicking on the home button several times or close firefox

    It depends. When a server says that a file is of the application/pdf content type, it should load in the built-in PDF viewer, or in the Adobe plugin. However, if the server says it is a different content type, even if it has a .pdf extension, directing Firefox to open it can lead to an infinite loop of more and more tabs or windows opening.
    The typical strong medicine for this is to rename the settings file that associates the problem content type with Firefox. This also will delete any past associations created for different content types and revert to the default.
    Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
    In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button
    Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
    * File menu > Exit
    Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''mimeTypes.rdf''' to something like mimeTypes.old
    Start Firefox back up again and you should get the standard behavior. This time, if Firefox doesn't know how to handle a PDF, please do not redirect it to open in Firefox. (If Firefox knows how to handle it, it won't pop the question in the first place.)
    If I've misunderstood what happened, could you give a link to the problem download?
    ''Removed stray text from copy/paste error.''

    With Adobe Reader X I'm unable to open pdf files in Firefox (or any other browser I've tried so far). I've uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times but I just get a completely black screen (grey in IE).

    There are other things that need attention:
    Your above posted system details show multiple Java Console extensions.<br />
    You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension, you do not need them to run Java applets.

  • Acrobat distiller (first use) don't open PDF file what to do ?

    Hi,
    Acrobat distiller (first use) don't open PDF file and give this message (in french)  : Erreur dans /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/PDFX4 2008.joboptions : /CheckCompliance out of range Avertissement : Distiller ne traite pas les extensions de fichiers .PDF ou .JDF.
    What should I do ?
    Thanks for your reply.

    No, Distiller does not do that job at all. Distiller makes PDF files, but it does not read them.
    I am not sure what you are using: Distiller Server is finished as a product. Distiller comes with Acrobat also - this is not Distiller Server.
    Acrobat Pro includes many tools for processing PDF files and can sometimes reduce file size. It can also convert to PDFX4 using Preflighting.

  • Sending PO via email with pdf file extension

    Good afternoon everyone. We are successfully (in testing) sending out Purchase Orders via External Send to an Outlook email address.  When the user receives the email, it appears that SAPConnect (SCOT) is correctly coverting the file to a pdf (I can open it in Adobe Acrobat), yet the file attachment still shows a ".dat" file extension.
    Where in the process do I need to set up SAP not to send the file out with a .dat file extension (in PDF format), but rather with a .pdf file extension (in PDF format).
    Points awarded for good suggestions/comments

    You can use Transaction SCOT to trigger the output manually. The prerequisite for a correct sending is that the node is set correctly.
    To be able to display, for example, the e-mail in Outlook, enter PDF as the format in the node.
    Regards,
    Ashok
